England made a hard decision to drop Jason Roy from the ODI World Cup squad despite selecting him in the provisional squad a month ago. The batsman, however, couldn't play the next four ODIs for England against New Zealand due to back spasms and lost his place in the team to Harry Brook.&nbsp;

"Jason will be the top-order reserve, absolutely," Buttler said. "Harry, we do feel gives us versatility: he can cover Nos. 1 to 6 in the batting order, which is obviously something that's advantageous in a squad.

"But good players miss out, it's the very brutal nature of sport. There's plenty of people outside the 15 who will have felt that they were in with a really good chance of a spot.

"It's a bad headache to have but a good problem as a selection committee when you have a deep pool of players to choose from."

Having won two World Cups (one ODI, one T20) in three years, Buttler is referred to as a top player in world cricket. The right-hander, who has scored three ODI hundreds in less than 50 balls in each innings,&nbsp;is touted to be among the players to hit the most runs in the upcoming Cricket World Cup 2023.

Currently playing his trade in England’s newest competition – The Hundred, Buttler is gearing up for a packed-away winter. England will face New Zealand in a home series before taking on Ireland and then flying to India for the ten-team marquee event starting October 5.

Starting with his favourite T20 innings, Buttler said his hundred against Sri Lanka at Sharjah during the 2021 World Cup tops the chart. He also mentioned one IPL inning that stands out for him.

“The hundred in Sharjah [at the 2021 T20 World Cup] would definitely be one, especially in those sort of conditions. I found the first half of that inning very tough. I got 94 not out against Mumbai Indians in the 2018 IPL at the Wankhede - that's probably one of the best I have batted. I was in a nice run of form, and that was one of those days where things clicked,” Buttler told ESPNcricinfo.&nbsp;

On his best ODI knock, the England captain said,&nbsp;“The 116 in Dubai [vs. Pakistan in November 2015] is definitely one of my favourites. And then the hundred I got in Sydney [vs. Australia in January 2018]. That was one of the best I have played,” Buttler added.

Former South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis has predicted the highest run-getter in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023&nbsp;being held in India. The forthcoming mega event will kick off in the subcontinent on October 05 with the defending champions Jos Buttler-led England taking on New Zealand in Ahmedabad whereas hosts Rohit Sharma-led India face Australia, in Chennai, on October 08.

Kallis, a legend who represented South Africa in 166 Tests, 328 ODIs and 25 T20Is, feels England captain Buttler will end up as the leading run-scorer in the upcoming edition. In the last edition, in England and Wales, Rohit Sharma ended with 648 runs -- most by any batter.

"I think Jos Butler will be the leading run scorer. An outside call, but I fancy him in those conditions. Along with England having a good World Cup, I think, um, me, he's going to be the one guy that stands up," said Kallis while speaking to the ICC.

He has a lot of experience of playing in India, thanks to his stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he plays for the Rajasthan Royals (RR). Overall, he&nbsp;has scored 3,223 runs from 96 IPL matches, at an impressive strike-rate of 148.32.&nbsp;

However, Buttler doesn't have a good ODI record in India -- having managed&nbsp;83 runs in eight matches so far at an average of&nbsp;11. Thus, he has a task to improve his record and help England successfully defend their title. Meanwhile, when asked to detail what happened behind the scene with Stokes, Buttler revealed knowing Ben, he decided himself instead of anyone persuading him – something that wouldn’t have worked in the first place.

"To be honest, it was Ben's call," Buttler said. "You all know Ben pretty well by now - I don't think anyone talking to him would persuade him."

"We had some conversations quite a while ago about it and just left it to him to come to me, basically, if he wanted to come back. We're delighted that he feels ready to come back, and any time you can welcome him back into the team is great,” Buttler added.

Mott said that given how Stokes performed in the recently-concluded Ashes, which ended in the Oz retaining the urn, his presence made all the difference on the field for the hosts. Having opted to bat first in the challenging conditions of Jaipur, the decision backfired on skipper Sanju Samson as they lost wickets at regular intervals despite a decent start. RR lost Buttler (8) in the second over but they recovered well with Samson (30) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (11) and were 47/1. However, GT was struck with venom as Jaiswal and Samson were dismissed in quick succession which led to a horrible collapse.

Soon RR were 77/6 and looked dead and out as the triple-figure mark looked out of reach for them. A decent knock from Trent Boult (15) helped RR reach the 100-run mark and mount a decent challenge. In the entire innings, only four batters entered double figures before they lost way to get bowled out for 118.

Rashid Khan was the chief destructor for RR as he scalped three wickets while his Afghanistan colleague Noor Ahmad ended with two wickets as well. Mohammed Shami, Hardik Pandya and Joshua Little all scalped a wicket to break the RR back.

With points looking out of hand, RR will look forward to the next game when they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday, May 7 before they take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). On the flip side, GT will take on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday while Mumbai Indians await them on Friday.

RCB then promoted Shahbaz Nadeem at number three in a strange move but Boult took him out too. Maxwell and du Plessis then joined forces and added 127 for the third wicket. Du Plessis was the third wicket to fall after scoring 62 off 39 balls. Maxwell departed soon on a team score of 156, having scored 77 off 44 balls. RCB's innings lost the steam after that as they could score only 189/9 in their 20 overs.

For Royals, Trent Boult and Sandeep Sharma took two wickets apiece while spinners Ravi Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal took one each. RR effected three run outs in the RCB's innings.

IPL 2023: Mohammed Siraj clean bowls Jos Buttler with a jaffa in RCB vs RR - WATCH

Virat Kohli has so far scored two fifties in three games for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2023. The three-time runners-up will rely on Kohli throughout the season as they look to end their IPL-trophy drought this time around in IPL 2023. In 2016 edition, the then RCB skipper Kohli was in sublime form as he ended with a whopping 973 runs in 16 games -- including four centuries - as he took his franchise to the final, where they lost to the eventual champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Kohli's 973 runs remains the most scored by a batter in any IPL season. Recently, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri named India's young star Shubman Gill, who represents the one-time winners Gujarat Titans (GT), to break Kohli's massive IPL record.&nbsp;

Speaking during a Q/A session on&nbsp;Star Sports, Shastri said, "He has to be an opening batsman, because only then will he get many opportunities to score runs. I feel it is Shubman Gill because he is in good form and also because he plays at the top of the order. So he will get a good number of opportunities to score runs."

Shastri further opined, "The pitches are good, so if he can score 80-100 runs consecutively in two or three innings, then at that point only he will already have 300-400 runs.

"According to me, it is very difficult to break the record, because 900-plus runs is huge. But one thing is opening batsmen will get two extra matches and two extra innings, so they can only break this record if it is possible", he&nbsp;added.

Gill has so far scored 116 runs, including a fifty, at a strike rate of 145. Meanwhile, Gill-starrer GT have won twice and lost a game after three encounters as they occupy the fourth spot in the points table.&nbsp;

Buttler sustained the injury while taking the catch of Punjab Kings batsman Shahrukh Khan and had to undergo multiple stitches.

The injury forced him to sit out of the batting duties and therefore Ravichandran Ashwin was promoted to open the innings. However, the experiment failed and resulted in Buttler batting in the second over, but failed to make an impression as he was unable to bat at his 100 percent.

Delhi Capital’s star man Mitchell Marsh is also reported to be out for a week, but not with injury. It is reported that he will be getting married. Marsh will get married in Australia and will miss a week out while it will be an opportunity for someone to fill in. Rovman Powell could be back in the team, as there are suggestions he might have to sit out of the team.

"He [Marsh] is not going to be available for the next few games. He is getting married," Hopes told the media ahead of the Capitals clash with Royals in Guwahati.

The clash between Delhi and Rajasthan will take place on Saturday, April 8 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. After Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals will take on Mumbai Indians in Delhi on Tuesday and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Bengaluru on April 15.
