However, when it comes to banning a book, there is a designated committee, and its members are responsible for the decision. Examining these books and deciding whether they should be banned falls within the committee’s domain, not ours. However, if a book that the people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly its children, want to read or see is deliberately banned by the committee members, then that would be wrong and unjust. They are now seeking immediate access to completed accommodation in transit camp at Zewan, along with stronger security arrangements for those still living in rented accommodation across the Valley.&nbsp;Community members said the threat letters have emerged repeatedly in recent months and have created anxiety not only among the employees but also among their families living outside Jammu and Kashmir. They said the government should treat the latest threats as an urgent security concern and complete the remaining transit accommodation on priority.&nbsp;“We have gathered here because we have been waiting for accommodation in the transit camps for years. The government has been assuring us that we will be accommodated, but nothing has happened so far. Now, with these fresh threat letters coming in, our concerns have increased. Our demand is very simple: the buildings that are already ready should be opened and we should be shifted there immediately. Construction on the remaining buildings can continue, but those of us who are living in different locations should be moved to the completed accommodations, where we will be safer. If we are shifted to these transit camps, where the Kashmiri Pandit community is accommodated together, it will also be easier for the government to provide us with proper security. This has become a huge mental stress for us. Our families are constantly worried about whether we have reached home safely. It is especially difficult for families who live outside the Valley to keep reassuring them that everything is fine when we ourselves are living with this fear. We have been here since 2010, it has been 16 years and we still have not been provided safe accommodation. Medical interns at government hospitals across Jammu and Kashmir continued their protest for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday, demanding an increase in their monthly stipend from the existing ₹12,300 to ₹30,000.The protesting interns said their stipend has remained unchanged since 2019 despite a significant rise in the cost of living and the demanding nature of their duties. The latest weather update also recorded significant rainfall during the preceding 24 hours. Pulwama received 57.5 mm of rain, Poonch 53 mm, Awantipora 47.8 mm and Rajouri 44 mm. Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed frequent spells of heavy rain and intense showers in recent weeks. With further rainfall expected, authorities and residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert to sudden changes in weather and the possibility of flash flooding, landslides and mudslides.

Intensifying its crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Anantnag Police has registered 345 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested 372 alleged drug peddlers during the first six months of 2026.According to an official statement, police seized more than 440 kilograms of contraband substances in multiple operations across the district and recovered Rs 27,52,976 in cash believed to be linked to drug trafficking.&nbsp;As part of its action against assets acquired through narcotics proceeds, properties worth nearly Rs 50 crore were attached in 30 cases. A delegation of Kashmiri Pandits is currently visiting the Kashmir Valley to assess the ground situation and determine whether conditions are conducive for their return to their ancestral homes. Members of the delegation have travelled from various parts of the world, including the United States and several European countries, many of them returning to the Valley for the first time in 36 years.&nbsp;The group is conducting an on-ground survey across different parts of Kashmir and is expected to brief the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir about its observations regarding the prevailing conditions in the Valley. The delegation will also participate in a two-day conference in Srinagar, where discussions will focus on the prospects of the return and rehabilitation of the Kashmiri Pandit community.&nbsp;Following the conference, the delegation plans to compile its findings and recommendations into a report that will be submitted to the Union Home Ministry.
