<h2>What are the scenarios?</h2>

The relevant teams will compete in a Super Over and, if necessary, additional Super Overs to determine which team will win the match. A 20-over match must be completed by 11.40 PM IST. The start time for a 5-over-per-side game is 12.06 AM.

However, if there is no play in the above scenario, a reserve day will be used on Monday to decide the winners of the IPL 2023. If rain again plays spoilsport, the above scenario will be repeated to decide the winner of the contest. However, if there is no play on either day, the IPL 2023 title will be shared by both GT and CSK who will be declared joint winners.

<h2>CSK’s path to the final</h2>

CSK beat GT in Qualifier 1 by 15 runs to make the final and are&nbsp;in great touch this season after finishing ninth in the 2022 campaign. CSK had earlier finished the league season with eight wins and a draw after their clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) was abandoned due to rain. CSK lost five matches on their way to Qualifier 1 and also ended their 12-year wait for a win at the Wankhede Stadium.

<h2>GT’s way to the final</h2>

In 2022, GT were the league leader after the initial phase and reached the playoffs with 10 wins and four defeats. However, lady luck did not shine bright for them in Qualifier 1 which they lost to CSK in Chennai. Hardik Pandya’s men though did not give up and made it to the final after beating Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2.

Shubman Gill was the hero of the match and scored his third hundred of the IPL 2023 season. Gill’s storm condemned Mumbai Indians to a 62-run defeat and punched GT’s ticket to the final.

IPL 2023 Final: Who will win the title if rain plays spoilsport in CSK vs GT clash in Ahmedabad?

MS Dhoni is one of the legends of the game. Despite retiring from international cricket in August 2020, he remains one of the superstars of modern-day cricket and a huge name in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni's craze has been immense in the IPL over the years. In this season, his presence has led to fans flocking in large numbers to witness him play in what is likely his last IPL edition.&nbsp;

In&nbsp;IPL 2023, Dhoni has led from the front and taken the four-time winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to another final in the cash-rich league (Chennai's tenth overall). He has marshalled his troops brilliantly and also come up with&nbsp;small yet impactful knocks down the order. So far, he has 104 runs in 56 balls at a strike rate of 185.71.

Speaking of Dhoni, IPL 2023 final will be&nbsp;his 11th appearance in an IPL summit clash; the most by any player. He has won the IPL on four occasions, all as a captain (for CSK). Ahead of CSK's face-off versus Gujarat Titans (GT), in Ahmedabad on Sunday evening (May 28), here's a look at all the opposition skippers Captain Cool Dhoni&nbsp;faced in&nbsp;nine IPL finals:

After guiding CSK to this season's final, with a 15-run win over GT in Qualifier 1, Dhoni also opened up on his IPL future. As speculations are rife that IPL 2023 will be his last ever, he reacted to all the rumours in the post-match presentation and said, "I have 8-9 months to decide. Why take that headache now? I'll always be there for CSK, whether it is&nbsp;playing or something outside."

Talking about Dhoni's spectacular record&nbsp;in IPL finals, he has scored 180 runs at a strike rate of 135.33 with one half-century (best of 63 not out). Overall, he has played nine finals for CSK and&nbsp;one for now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS).&nbsp;

Will Hardik Pandya outwit Dhoni in IPL 2023 finale? Or, will MSD outshine another opposition captain to win his fifth IPL trophy? Only time will tell...

IPL 2023: All the skippers who faced Captain Cool MS Dhoni in finals

Mumbai Indians (MI) went past Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2023's Eliminator on Wednesday (May 24). The five-time winners, who entered the playoffs as the fourth-placed side, romped past LSG by 81 runs in defence of 182/8 courtesy of brilliance from young pacer Akash Madhwal and quickfire knocks from Suryakumar Yadav, Cameron Green and Nehal Wadhera.

Opting to bat first, MI rode on contributions from their main batters propelled Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. to a challenging total before Madhwal's five-for (5 for 5 in 3.3 overs), smart bowling changes and LSG succumbing to the pressure led Mumbai to Qualifier 2, where they meet defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) on Friday (May 26).

After the game, Aussie all-rounder Cameron Green -- who scored a century in MI's last game in the league stage and is churning out key wickets as well -- claimed that Rohit asked the team to focus on peaking at the right time than starting with a bang and then fading away.

<h2>'You want to be peaking at the right time'</h2>

“All the experience that he has got in India and in the IPL. I think MI has never won the first game in the IPL, I think. He has tried to tell us a few times to calm us down at the start. You want to be peaking at this time of the year (tournament).

“That is what he has been speaking about. You don’t want to be playing good cricket at the start and then slowing down. You want to be peaking now. Ya, and we play a nice game tonight,” Cameron Green told the broadcasters.

MI will now ride on their sublime form to challenge GT and prevent them from entering their second straight IPL final. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have already qualified for the summit clash, to be held in Ahmedabad on Sunday (May 28).

IPL 2023: Reliving CSK's plethora of highs under MS Dhoni's captaincy

Gujarat Titans (GT) locked horns with the one-time winners Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2022 final showdown on Sunday evening (May 29) at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad. Despite winning the toss in the crucial encounter, the Sanju Samson-led RR franchise fell flat against the favourites Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat franchise as they went onto lift the elusive title in their maiden IPL season.

Batting first, Samson &amp; Co. struggled as the big guns -- Jos Buttler, Samson, Shimron Hetmyer, etc. -- couldn't do much and the RR franchise posted only 130-9 (courtesy of Hardik's 3/17 and Sai Kishore's twin scalps). In reply, RR had restricted GT to 23-2, however, Hardik (34), Shubman Gill's 45* and an unbeaten 19-ball 32 from David Miller took GT home. After the clash, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag slammed R Ashwin for not resorting to his off-spin and bowling the carrom ball during the summit clash.

Sehwag has questioned Ashwin's bowling approach, saying he should have stuck to conventional off-spin on the surface. “Ashwin should have stuck with his off-spin deliveries because it was troubling the batters. Instead, he bowled his carrom balls," Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

“There was even a rough patch formed by the end, that could have troubled Gill. He could have tried to dismiss Pandya as well like that. But, his mindset is different, tries for wickets with his variations," the iconic player&nbsp;asserted.

Sehwag also opined that RR should have stuck to chasing, which they did brilliantly in Qualifier 2 versus the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and should also placed an extra pacer on a surface akin for fast bowlers in Ahmedabad. "RR knew how hard it is to play pacers on this surface, but they still went with both their spinners instead of a fourth fast bowling option. They will also question themselves that should they have batted first after winning the toss after chasing so well in Qualifier 2," he further added.

IPL 2022: GT mentor Gary Kirsten heaps praise on Hardik Pandya, reveals his uniqueness as a captain

Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated one-time winners Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2022 final, by seven wickets, to end their maiden season with their first-ever title. Hardik led from the front as he contributed with a match-winning spell, 4-0-17-3, whereas he also played a crucial hand with the bat (scoring a 30-ball 34) in a low-scoring match dominated by GT.

Opting to bat first, at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad, Sanju Samson-led RR posted only a moderate 130-9. In reply, Shubman Gill's 45 not out, David Miller's 19-ball 32 and Hardik's contributions closed the run-chase with seven wickets and 11 balls to spare.&nbsp;

After the match, Hardik pulled off an MS Dhoni during the end of the presentation ceremony. After receiving the IPL 2022 trophy, by BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah, he quickly gave it to the Gujarat youngsters and stood at a corner (a trend started by Dhoni during his early days as India captain). At the post-match presenation, Hardik said, "This is the right example for any team in the world. If you can play as a team and build a good unit with genuine people around, wonders can happen. I and Ashu pa, we like to play proper bowlers. Batters can obviously chip in, but most of the time I have seen in T20 cricket - it's a batter's game but bowlers win you games. A lot of times we won the games as well, but we always spoke about what are the things we missed out and how we can get better from here. Everyone chipped in. Count myself lucky winning 5 finals, it's been exciting. This is going to be a special one. We spoke about creating a legacy. Generation to come, everyone will remember this was the team who started this journey and to win the championship first year is very special."

Opting to bat first, at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad, Sanju Samson-led RR posted only a moderate 130-9. In reply, Shubman Gill's 45 not out, David Miller's 19-ball 32 and Hardik's contributions closed the run-chase with seven wickets and 11 balls to spare. Ashish Nehra becomes 1st Indian to achieve huge feat after Gujarat Titans win IPL 2022

Gujarat Titans (GT) locked horns with the one-time winners Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2022 final on Sunday evening (May 29), at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad. In their maiden season, Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat ended on a high note by winning the elusive title and joining some big teams in the overall winners' list.&nbsp;

Opting to bat first, Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan came out with positive intent as opener Yashasvi Jaiswal took on the GT bowlers and utilised the powerplay overs. Nonetheless, he was dismissed by Yash Dayal against the run of play for a good-looking 22. Jos Buttler (who ended with the Orange Cap with 863 runs) was at his cautious best and stitched a partnership with Sanju Samson before the skipper fell off his counterpart, trying to accelerate after some tidy overs. From thereon, Rajasthan never got going as Hardik-Rashid Khan applied the brakes with their clever bowling and change of pace to leave RR tottering at 98 for 6. Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag and R Ashwin couldn't do much as the 2008 winners somehow managed to reach 130 for 9 in 20 overs. Hardik returned with 3 for 17 whereas Sai Kishore also chipped in with two wickets.&nbsp;

In reply, Gujarat lost in-form opener, Wriddhiman Saha, early. The right-hander fell to a peach off a delivery off Prasidh Krishna as RR started with a bang. While No. 3 batter Matthew Wade started with a six, he fell to Trent Boult as GT were soon reduced to 23-2 within six overs in a moderate run-chase. From thereon, skipper Hardik and opener Shubman Gill did a good job to steady the ship, by buying some time in the middle and keeping the scoreboard ticking with some odd boundaries at regular intervals.&nbsp;

However, RR kept on fighting and Yuzvendra Chahal removed Hardik by getting a big edge off his blade in the 14th over. With this, Yuzi Chahal won the Purple Cap -- ending with 27 wickets (most by any spinner in a single edition) -- but couldn't prevent the inevitable for his franchise. Gill was joined by David Miller as the duo ended the run-chase with ease, in front of a packed stadium -- in excess of 1,00,000 people. Gill, unbeaten on 45, and Miller's 19-ball 32 propelled GT to their maiden title by 7 wickets and 11 balls to spare.

IPL 2022 final: Captain Hardik Pandya's all-round blitz take GT to maiden title, beat RR by 7 wickets

Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) weren't expected to go very far in IPL 2022 edition. Comprising some key players and also a lot of inexperience&nbsp;in their squad, Gujarat stunned one and all as different players rose up to the occasion in every game to see them top the group stage and then become the first-ever team to reach the IPL 2022 final. Further, they were never threatened by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the summit clash as they romped past&nbsp;the one-time winners by seven wickets and claim the trophy in their maiden season.&nbsp;

Talking about the contest, the Sanju Samson-led RR franchise opted to bat first at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday evening (May 29). Despite a good start by Yashasvi Jaiswal, RR never got going after the dismissals of captain Sanju and in-form opener Jos Buttler to manage only a paltry 130-9. Captain Hardik returned with 3 for 17 to lead from the front as Rajasthan was restricted to a below-par total. In reply, Shubman Gill's sedate 45 not out, Hardik's 30-ball 34 and David Miller's blistering 19-ball 32 propelled GT to an easy win as they clinched the title in their first-ever IPL season (joining RR to become only the second team to achieve this feat).

Hardik Pandya's Gujarat Titans claim maiden title: Complete list of IPL winners since 2008

Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Gujarat Titans (GT) will battle it out for the one final time for the elusive IPL trophy when they lock horns with each other in the final of IPL 2022 on Sunday (May 29). The two teams have been the most consistent side so far in the tournament and have deservingly made it to the summit clash which will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (May 29). While Gujarat Titans have enjoyed a&nbsp;fairytale run reaching the final in their debut season, Rajasthan Royals will be playing their first final since the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008.

Gujarat Titans were the first team to qualify for the playoffs this season after reaching 18 points. The Hardik Pandya-led side was far from favourites following the conclusion of the IPL 2022 mega auction earlier this year. However, they defied the odds and saw the likes of David Miller, Rahul Tewatia and Rahid Khan also with skipper Hardik make impactful contributions to help them pull off some thrilling victories.

While Hardik has led from the front with the bat and also contributed with the ball when required, Miller, Tewatia and Rashid have been phenomenal down the order as finishers. GT's bowling attack has also been exceptional so far this season with the likes of Mohammed Shami, Alzarri Joseph, Rashid and Yash Dayal all among the wickets.

Rajasthan Royals have arguably been the second-best team after the Gujarat Titans so far this season. Sanju Samson &amp; Co. have also relied heavily on their bowling attack consisting of the leading wicket-taker of the tournament - Yuzvendra Chahal, the dangerous Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna and R Ashwin among others.

Jos Buttler has been their top performer with the bat and has had a season to remember with a staggering 824 runs in just 16 matches so far. While Buttler has done the majority of the scoring at the top, skipper Samson, Devdutt Padikkal and Shimron Hetmyer have also contributed with the bat.

While both teams have played some brilliant cricket so far this season, there is an interesting pattern which suggests Gujarat Titans might be favourites to win the IPL 2022 title. Since 2018, the winning team in an IPL final has remained unbeaten against their opponent throughout&nbsp;the season.

Can Rajasthan Royals break the jinx?

In 2018, Chennai Super Kings had defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in a one-sided final to lift their 3rd trophy. CSK had earlier defeated SRH thrice in the league stage and the playoffs before beating them in the final to remain unbeaten against SRH throughout IPL 2018.

While Gujarat Titans have enjoyed a fairytale run reaching the final in their debut season, Rajasthan Royals will be playing their first final since the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008. Sanju Samson & Co. have also relied heavily on their bowling attack consisting of the leading wicket-taker of the tournament - Yuzvendra Chahal, the dangerous Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna and R Ashwin among others. Since 2018, the winning team in an IPL final has remained unbeaten against their opponent throughout the season. Can Rajasthan Royals break the jinx? Why Gujarat Titans are favourites to win IPL 2022 title

Gujarat Titans (GT) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) will lock horns in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (May 29). The two of the most consistent teams in the league stage and the playoffs will go up against each other for one last time in a bid to lift the elusive trophy. While it has been a fairytale debut season for Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals have made it to their first final since the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008.

While both teams have ridden on individual brilliance so far as their batting line-ups are concerned, they are heavily dependent on their bowling attacks. The two teams have got world-class bowling line-ups and the final could well be decided on which team delivers better with the ball.

Gujarat Titans enjoyed a dominant run in the league stage and were the first to qualify for the playoffs. They were up against second-placed Rajasthan Royals in the Qualifier 1 and defeated the Sanju Samson-led side by seven wickets to become the first finalists of the tournament.

While their bowlers were taken to the cleaners by in-form Jos Buttler and Samson in the first Qualifier, GT rode on David Miller's stunning unbeaten 68 off 38 balls to chase down 189 runs with three balls to spare. They would hope for their skipper Hardik Pandya, Miller, Tewatia and Shubman Gill at the top to continue their fine form in the final against RR on Sunday.

After losing the 1st Qualifier against Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals were up against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2nd Qualifier. Prasidh Krishna and Obed McCoy bowled exceptional spells to restrict RCB to 157 before Buttle smacked a magnificent century to power his team into the final.

While wickets have dried up for Yuzvendra Chahal and R Ashwin, Krishna and McCoy have seemed to found their mojo ahead of the final and will be crucial to RR's chances in the final. Samson will also hope for one final big effort from Buttler, who has enjoyed a fairytale run with the bat so far this season.

GT vs RR, IPL 2022 today match prediction: Who will win final between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals?

A lot pf speculations were there over Hardik Pandya ahead of the IPL 2022 edition. Having not played for Team India since the 2021 T20 World Cup, the star all-rounder was preparing himself for the 15th IPL season, in a bid to showcase his fitness and return to the Indian white-ball squads.

In the ongoing IPL season, the 28-year-old Hardik has stunned one and all with his all-round blitz and captaincy. Leading for the first time, Hardik has led with aplomb to take the debutant franchise Gujarat Titans (GT) to the final. With the bat, he has amassed 453 runs -- his best in any season -- and has bowled some tidy overs and accounted for five scalps. Thus, his stocks as a captain has risen and the all-rounder is in-line to lead India's second-stringed T20I side for the upcoming Ireland tour. It is to be noted that Rohit Sharma-Rahul Dravid pair will be involved with the Test line-up, at the same time, for the one-off match versus England.

“Hardik has been impressive. What is more satisfying is that he has become a very responsible player as a captain. He is certainly in the scheme of things for the captaincy role for the Ireland tour,”&nbsp;a member of the selection committee was quoted as saying by&nbsp;InsideSport.

Hardik Pandya's captaincy stocks on the rise, star player could lead Team India in Ireland T20Is: Report

David Miller smashed three back-to-back in the final over from Prasidh Krishna to help Gujarat Titans (GT) thrash Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 7 wickets at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday (May 24) and secure a spot in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Gujarat Titans have become the first finalists of the season in their debut campaign in the IPL and have been playing phenomenal cricket throughout the tournament. It was yet another finishing masterclass from Miller as he helped his side chase down the target of 189 runs comfortably.

Asked to chase down 190 runs at the Eden Gardens, Gujarat Titans were far from favourites when they started their run-chase. To make matters worse they lost opener Wriddhiman Saha on a duck in the very first over before Shubman Gill (35) combined with Matthew Wade (35) to add 72 runs for the second wicket.

It was a brilliant knock from Gill under pressure which was laced with 5 fours and a six before an unfortunate run-out ended his stay in the middle. Wade too was dismissed shortly after Gill's departure as he was caught by Jos Buttler off the bowling of Obed McCoy in the 10th over.

Just when it looked like, Rajasthan Royals were getting back into the game, GT skipper Hardik Pandya and in-form David Miller joined forces in the middle to take the game away from them. The duo looked in brilliant touch and didn't let the pressure get the better of them as they manoeuvred the strike well and played big shots at regular intervals.

With 15 to get off the final over, it was Miller who took on Prasidh Krishna and went after the RR pacer from ball 1. The left-hander smacked him for a hat-trick of sixes to take GT over the line with ease.

IPL 2022 final in Ahmedabad; toss-up between Lucknow, Kolkata for playoffs venues - Report

IPL 2021 ended in a fitting manner on Friday evening (October 15), with the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) meeting the Eoin Morgan-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

The 14th edition of the cash-rich league has been very different from all the preceding seasons as it took place in two halves, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the 14th season&nbsp;lived up to expectations despite the BCCI facing plenty of issues to complete the marquee edition in 2021. The just-concluded season saw&nbsp;many uncapped players standing tall with the bat and ball whereas some known and big names also outperformed for their respective franchises.

While Harshal Patel ended with the Purple Cap, with as many as 32 wickets for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), CSK's Ruturaj Gaikwad&nbsp;earned the elusive Orange Cap after Dhoni &amp; Co. won their fourth championship, beating KKR by 27 runs in the finale.

Ruturaj&nbsp;ended with 636 runs at 45.35 along with a strike-rate of 136.26 following his 32 in the summit clash. His opening partner Faf du Plessis gave him a very tough fight for the cap, however, the 24-year-old youngster topped the run-scoring chart&nbsp;courtesy of a two-run lead.&nbsp;

In this way, Ruturaj has joined some elite names in the list for the Orange Cap winners. It includes some big names such as Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, David Warner (winning it thrice), KL Rahul, etc. Here's the whole Orange Cap list after&nbsp;IPL 2021:&nbsp;

Ruturaj's IPL 14 has been a breakthrough season. Returning with as many as four half-centuries and a hundred and taking on many world-class bowlers from the word go, without dropping much sweat, the CSK opener is now being touted as the next-big-thing in Indian cricket and is expected to be the future of the MS Dhoni-led franchise. Following such a season, many experts believe he will be retained by the Yellow Army ahead of the mega auction, later this year.

When he was almost confirmed to be the owner of the cap, Ruturaj told broadcasters at the halfway stage of the finale, "We did brilliantly to get to 192 by hitting some brilliant sixes. We need to bowl well and back it up with the fielding. I wanted him to hit that six (on Faf coming very close to&nbsp;surpassing him in the Orange Cap list)&nbsp;and add those six important runs."&nbsp;

For the unversed, Faf's 86 helped CSK post a competitive 192-3&nbsp;versus KKR in the season-finale. While the South African missed out on winning the elusive cap, by a whisker, his knock helped CSK defend the total by 27 runs.

However, the 14th season lived up to expectations despite the BCCI facing plenty of issues to complete the marquee edition in 2021. The just-concluded season saw many uncapped players standing tall with the bat and ball whereas some known and big names also outperformed for their respective franchises. While Harshal Patel ended with the Purple Cap, with as many as 32 wickets for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), CSK's Ruturaj Gaikwad earned the elusive Orange Cap after Dhoni & Co. won their fourth championship, beating KKR by 27 runs in the finale. Ruturaj ended with 636 runs at 45.35 along with a strike-rate of 136.26 following his 32 in the summit clash. His opening partner Faf du Plessis gave him a very tough fight for the cap, however, the 24-year-old youngster topped the run-scoring chart courtesy of a two-run lead. In this way, Ruturaj has joined some elite names in the list for the Orange Cap winners. It includes some big names such as Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, David Warner (winning it thrice), KL Rahul, etc. Here's the whole Orange Cap list after IPL 2021: ALSO READ | Virender Sehwag names uncapped Indian star KKR should retain ahead of IPL mega auction Year Orange Cap winner Runs scored 2008 Shaun Marsh 616 2009 Matthew Hayden 572 2010 Sachin Tendulkar 618 2011 Chris Gayle 608 2012 Chris Gayle 733 2013 Michael Hussey 733 2014 Robin Uthappa 660 2015 David Warner 562 2016 Virat Kohli 973 2017 David Warner 641 2018 Kane Williamson 735 2019 David Warner 692 2020 KL Rahul 670 2021 Ruturaj Gaikwad 636 ALSO READ | A look at top 5 highest and lowest totals in IPL finals as CSK battle KKR for elusive trophy Ruturaj's IPL 14 has been a breakthrough season. IPL 2021: We gave it all but fell short, says DC opener Shikhar Dhawan in heartfelt post

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have their eyes set on an elusive fourth Indian Premier League (IPL) crown as they gear up to face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final of IPL 2021. CSK have a fabulous record when it comes to the playoffs and will be playing their ninth IPL final at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on Friday.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) might not have played as many finals as CSK but they have won both the summit clashes that they have featured in so far and remain unbeaten in IPL finals. It is expected to be a nail-biter when the two top teams go up against each other in the final of IPL 2021.

Out of the two finals that KKR have played so far in the IPL, their first showdown was against none other than CSK. Led by Gautam Gambhir back then, KKR had chased down a strong target of 191 runs comfortably to stun MS Dhoni &amp; Co. and lift their maiden IPL title. That also remains to be the last meeting between CSK and KKR in an IPL final.

Here is a look back at what transpired when CSK and KKR met in the 2012 IPL final:

Chennai Super Kings struggled to make it to the playoffs and had entered the knockout stages as the fourth-placed side in IPL 2012 with 17 points from 16 matches. However, once in the playoffs, the Dhoni-led side found the winning momentum.

CSK were up against Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator where they batted first and posted a hefty total of 187 runs in Bengaluru to beat MI by 38 runs and progress to the second Qualifier. CSK continued their emphatic run and defeated Delhi Capitals by a staggering margin of 86 runs in the knockout tie to secure a spot in the final against KKR.

CSK were favourites against Gambhir's KKR in the summit clash considering they had won back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011. However, Manvinder Bisla turned the tie on its head with his stunning batting performance in the all-important game.

Despite posting a big total of 190 runs on the board, batting first, CSK ended up losing the final by five wickets with two balls to spare as uncapped Bisla produced the knock of his life to see KKR through under pressure. Bisla opened the batting with skipper Gautam Gambhir in the final but soon lost his partner as the left-hander was dismissed cheaply on 2 off 4 balls.

However, what followed was a truly sensational knock by the Haryana batsman. Bisla went on to score a match-winning 89 off just 48 balls laced with 8 fours and 5 sixes. He combined with all-rounder Jacques Kallis (69) to help KKR chase down the target with two balls to spare and clinch their maiden IPL title.

Bisla's 48-ball 89 was the second-highest score by a batsman in an IPL final at the time. He had not fired throughout the season but stepped up in the final to take the CSK bowlers to the cleaners and torment their bowling attack. with his aggressive batting.&nbsp;

Later, KKR went on to win their second IPL title in 2014 while CSK had to wait for seven years to win their third IPL title in 2018.

Rahul Tripathi smashed a six in the penultimate ball as Kolkata Knight Riders beat Delhi Capitals by three wickets in the second IPL qualifier here on Wednesday to set up a title clash with Chennai Super Kings.

Opting to bowl, KKR dished out another superlative bowling display to restrict Delhi Capitals to 135 for 5 on a slow Sharjah track.

Venkatesh Iyer (55) and Shubman Gill (46) then shared 96 runs for the opening wicket but KKR lost five wickets, adding just seven runs to stare at defeat.

But Tripathi smashed the much-needed six to snatch win from the jaws of defeat.

Earlier, invited to bat, DC opener Shikhar Dhawan struggled his way to a 39-ball 36 but couldn't break the shackles. Prithvi Shaw (18) looked good in his brief stay, while comeback man Marcus Stoinis (18) got the start but couldn't capitalise on it.

In the 18th over, Shimron Hetmyer (17) unleashed two sixes off Lockie Ferguson after getting a second lease of life, while Shreyas Iyer (30 not out) hit a four and a last-ball six in the 20th over to take DC to a competitive score.

IPL 2021: KKR set up title clash with CSK after defeating Delhi Capitals in a last-over thriller

Delhi Capitals' (DC) pacer Avesh Khan has had a breakthrough season in IPL 2021, being the second-highest wicket-taker overall with 23 scalps in 15 games. Avesh has dismissed some of the greats of the game, such as MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, etc.

For the unversed, Avesh got rid of Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) captain Dhoni twice during the league stage encounters when DC locked horns with the Yellow Army. The Delhi speedster's extra pace and bounce troubled Dhoni as he dismissed him twice and made heads turn. In an interview with ESPNCricinfo, Avesh has now revealed how DC captain Rishabh Pant plotted the dismissal of Dhoni on both the occasions.

“When Mahi bhai walked in, Rishabh told me to bring in the mid-on and mid-off. He said if he [Dhoni] hits you over them, that is fine, but don't pitch fuller, bowl your length. At first I disagreed with him and asked him not to bring in five fielders and leave only four inside [the 30-yard circle], but he insisted. So I did that and the second ball, he [Dhoni] attempted to hit over when he saw both fielders [mid-on and mid-off] inside the circle. He had not played for a while, and Rishabh took advantage of that and we got the wicket,” Avesh said.

Speaking on the second instance when he got rid of Dhoni, Avesh added, "Once again I had a chat with Rishabh. Basically, he said to pitch a hard length and let him [Dhoni] hit from there because it is tough to do that. And that is what I did and he edged."

However, Avesh couldn't dismiss Dhoni for cheap when CSK and DC locked horns for the third time in IPL 14; during the Qualifier 1 on Sunday (October 10). Coming out to bat in the penultimate over of the contest, with CSK needing 19 off 9 balls to chase down 172, Dhoni missed two deliveries off Avesh but smacked him for a six before finishing things off in style in the final over.&nbsp;

Pant-led DC will now face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Qualifier 2, at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah, on Wednesday evening (October 13) for a final in the place. Avesh, meanwhile, will hope to take DC to their second successive IPL final and get another chance to dismiss Dhoni.

DC pacer Avesh Khan spills the beans on how Rishabh Pant helped him in dismissing MS Dhoni twice

In the first Qualifier on Sunday (October 10), CSK registered a stunning victory after defeating DC by four wickets in a last-over thriller. Ruturaj Gaikwad's 70 and an unbeaten cameo from skipper Dhoni helped CSK reach the final. Chasing 173 for victory, Chennai rode on a 110-run second-wicket partnership between Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa (63) but were in trouble after the two departed.

Delhi pace bowler Tom Curran needed to defend 13 off the final over and got Moeen Ali out for 16 on the first ball. But Dhoni (18) kept his calm to smash three boundaries and take the team home with two balls to spare.&nbsp;

Soon after the match ended, Kohli took to his Twitter handle to praise Dhoni, he write, "Anddddd the king is back the greatest finisher in the game. Made me jump Outta my seat once again tonight."

Virat Kohli's reaction is epic as 'greatest finisher' MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings enter IPL 2021 final

Rising Pune Supergiants featured in just two Indian Premier League seasons (2016, 2017) because Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were banned for two years. MS Dhoni led the IPL franchise in 2016 but was replaced in 2017 by Australian batsman Steve Smith.&nbsp;

In 2017, the Rising Pune Supergiants reached the finals of the Indian Premier League but lost by 1 run against Rohit Sharma's Mumbai Indians. However, former RPS player Rajat Bhatia gave a bold statement on Steve Smith's captaincy (in 2017) in the inaugural episode of SportsTiger’s new interview series - Interact. Personal. Laugh &amp; Life, where he said that Mahendra Singh Dhoni was the main reason the team made it to the season finale.

He said: “IPL is a tournament where every franchise has its own call. They mostly trust the big names available in the squad. The trend of giving captaincy to an overseas player is still going on. But I was never in favour of this as overseas players aren’t aware of the domestic players.”

“You can never compare Dhoni with Steve Smith. If we look at all the 10 franchises, Smith doesn’t even feature in the top 10 captains for me. Smith had no idea about captaincy and he did not know which bowler to bring in amid a crucial situation and who to trust for the death overs. I was surprised that Rajasthan Royals trusted him with the leadership role and now they let them go,” he said.

“For me, a successful captain in IPL is one who is an Indian player and know the domestic cricketers very well. Smith didn’t even know Rahul Tripathi represents which state or bats at what position. We [Rising Pune Supergiant] made it to IPL 2017 final because of MS Dhoni and not Steve Smith,” he added.

Bhatia has featured in 95 games in the Indian Premier League. He has played for Rising Pune Supergiants, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), and Kolkata Knight Riders. The all-rounder scalped 71 wickets and scored 342.

Mumbai Indians on Tuesday defeated Delhi Capitals in the final of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/ipl">Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020</a> to lift their fifth IPL trophy. Mumbai Indians, who have played arguably the most attractive and effective brand of cricket in IPL 2020, defeated Delhi Capitals by 5&nbsp;wickets to seal their fifth IPL trophy in what has been a sensational campaign for the four-time, now five-time IPL winners. &nbsp;

Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer opted to bat first as the first-time finalists went with the same strategy as Qualifier 2. However, Trent Boult came into the party early as the Kiwi speedster dismissed Marcus Stoinis in the very first ball of the match before soon sending Ajinkya Rahane back to the pavilion.

Mumbai Indians picked Jayant Yadav ahead of Rahul Chahar for the final and move came good for Rohit Sharma as the off-spinner got rid of an in-form Shikhar Dhawan. With Delhi Capitals struggling at 22/3, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant came good with the willow as they stitched a 98-run partnership while smashing a half-century each. While Iyer scored 65 not-out off 50, Pant scored 56 off 38 deliveries as Delhi Capitals posted 156/7 in 20 overs.&nbsp;

Chasing 157, Mumbai Indians were off to a flying start as Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock went all-out from the word go. While sixes and fours flew smoothly for MI in the early overs, QDK departed for 20 off 12. Suryakumar Yadav started well but was a victim of a run-out which could only win plenty of hearts.&nbsp;

Ishan Kishan continued his sensational run with the bat and ably supported Rohit Sharma, who went onto score a terrific half-century. While Rohit departed for 68, Pollard was dismissed for 9 off 4. However, Mumbai Indians safely crossed the winning line to lift their fifth IPL trophy.

Suryakumar:&nbsp;Preparations, processes and routine are important. they just one thing - we'll take care of this. You go and express yourself. [The Rohit sacrifice] he was batting really well. Most importantly, he's been anchoring well since the first game. I don't mind sacrificing for him at all.

Bumrah:&nbsp;It means a great deal to play. We know it's a difficult time, everyone is stuck at home. We're lucky that we could come to work and entertain people watching at home. If we could bring smiles to their faces, it's the best thing we could do. From the first game, I felt my rhythm was up. The last piece of the puzzle was missing. But when I bowled the Super Over, I had to execute against Virat and AB and since then it clicked into place.

Pollard has found some form this season as he scored&nbsp;259 runs at a staggering strike rate of 190.44 in 15 matches. He also was named the interim skipper when Rohit Sharma was injured. According to the West Indies all-rounder, IPL finals is second only to a World Cup final.

"The name of the game is pressure, in a final. Everyone takes that pressure. You want to win and not commit a mistake, but at the end of the day, you have to try to take the finals as a normal game. Just go out there, enjoy yourself and the atmosphere," said Pollard in a video posted on the official Twitter handle of Mumbai Indians

"Obviously, no crowds in this final, but enjoy the magnitude of it. It's is an IPL final, it's the biggest thing after the World Cup final," Pollard said in a video posted by MI.

Mumbai Indians will take on Delhi Capitals in the much anticipated IPL 2020 finals. Mumbai have had previous experience of such big-pressure matches as they have won 4 out of 5 times after reaching the final knockout stage, whereas, this is Delhi's maiden IPL finals.

The Indian Premier League final scheduled on May 12 was Monday shifted from Chennai to Hyderabad after the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) failed to get requisite permission from the government to open the three closed stands.&nbsp;

While the Chennai&nbsp;still have a chance to play Qualifier 1 at home if they finish among the top two teams in the league but the Eliminator (May 8) and Qualifier 2 (May 10) has been shifted to Visakhapatnam.

"We had to shift the matches from Chennai to Hyderabad after TNCA intimated us that they have not procured the requisite permission to open the three stands I, J and K," Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai told PTI on Monday.

"Since the gate sales of the knock-out matches is BCCI's prerogative, we had to take a call. We would be having two knock-out matches in Vizag," he added.

The three stands make up for more than 12,000 tickets and BCCI would have lost out on a few crores of the gate money.

The stands have remained closed since 2012 except one international match between India and Pakistan when an exception was made.

Asked if all the knock-out matches' ticket sales are BCCI's prerogative, why was Qualifier 1 allotted to Chennai, Rai reasoned: "CSK, by virtue of being defending champions, were allotted the Qualifier 1 and final. Now if they finish in top two, you cannot take away all the games. They deserve to get at least one of the knock-out games."

Hyderabad only got the final and not the Eliminator or Qualifier because of the general elections in the Cybercity on May 6, 8 and 10.

The first three-team mini women's IPL will be held from May 6-10 in Jaipur with a new team Velocity being added to the existing Trailblazers and Supernovas.

BCCI shifts IPL 2019 final to Hyderabad after TNCA fails to get permission on locked stands

It will be a 'last-ball six' for Hyderabad as they will rise above expectations to beat the lion 'Chennai and will seize the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 trophy.

The two teams lock horns today for the fourth time in the eleventh edition but Hyderabad are a completely revived opponent.&nbsp;

The team posses nonpareil bowlers to defend low totals. Have registered nine-wicket wins on two occasions and consistent skipper Kane Williamson and Rashid Khan’s brilliance is the 'cherry on the cake'.

Chennai's strength stands in its batting which was depleted by Hyderabad bowlers in Qualifier 1.

The Afghan tweaker delivered an absolute beauty to clean bowled Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Faf du Plessis, who is touted as the architect of Chennai's win, became ineffectual.&nbsp;

Despite his half-century knock, he was failing to take the 'Yellow Brigade' to the victory side and it was Shradul Thakur's 'lucky shots' which brought Chennai back to the game.&nbsp;

If analysed, the shots were the free runs a team gets in any match.

Another advantage which Hyderabad has today is 'Wankhede'. Shikhar Dhawan is well aware with the ground and its conditions which adds depth to the batting line.&nbsp;He has played many splendid innings here to register a win for his team.

However, today's game won't be a cakewalk, as it will require special efforts from Kane Williamson side to stop the Chennai juggernaut and snatch the food (trophy) from lion's mouth.

Opinion: Why Hyderabad will have their hands on glistening IPL 2018 trophy

So it shall be written. So it shall be done. The 11the edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a repeat of so many other seasons so far.

As expected Chennai in the final, which has been the case most of the seasons barring a few. And they have an opponent whom they will steamroll in the final and lift the title. Only thing is that this time the opponent is a different team.&nbsp;

After two years of hibernation, the lion (Chennai) is back and is hungrier than ever before.&nbsp;When the team was forced out of their den (Chennai) due to Cauvery protest, the team lost a rapturous fanbase who thronged M.A. Chidambaram Stadium to cheer their favourite team everytime they played.

But that did not stop the team from going for the title. With Captain cool at the helm and 10 soldiers ready to put their lives on the line for their captain, the title is within their grasp.

Hyderabad will square off against Chennai for the fourth time in IPL 2018. Kane Williamson’s side have enjoyed a great run in this tournament so far. However, he has his task cut out against MS Dhoni’s Chennai, who are on a roll and have defeated Hyderabad on all three occasions in this edition of the tournament.

Chennai won the title in 2010 and 2011 but have lost in four finals while Hyderabad will be hoping to repeat their 2016 heroics.&nbsp;

Dhoni is not somebody who rests on past glories but likes to write a new script everytime he is on the crease. And the fans expect him to do exactly that today. However, victory or defeat Chennai fans will celebrate as the title will be making its way to Chennai as owners of both the teams are from ''Detroit of India''.&nbsp;&nbsp;
