Apple has reportedly cut component orders for its newly launched iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max by at least 15% for October, as rising memory chip costs and higher prices put pressure on demand, according to Nikkei Asia. The report, which cited multiple people familiar with the matter, said Apple had become more cautious about shipments since early September. If confirmed, the move could signal a change in the company’s production plans at a time when technology firms are competing for increasingly expensive memory chips. Reuters said it could not immediately verify the report. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside regular business hours.
Why is Apple reportedly cutting iPhone 18 Pro orders?
According to Nikkei Asia, Apple has asked some suppliers to reduce production of components for its two premium iPhone models. Orders for October were reportedly at least 15% lower than initially requested. The report comes amid concerns about softer device demand between late August and October. However, Nikkei Asia noted that the trend could also be linked to changes in Apple's iPhone launch schedule. The reported reduction therefore does not, by itself, establish that consumers are rejecting the latest iPhones.
How rising memory chip costs are affecting Apple
The global race to build AI data centres is increasing demand for advanced chips and memory components. Technology companies are securing supplies to power AI systems, contributing to shortages and price increases across the industry.Apple has also been adding AI capabilities to its products, increasing the strategic importance of high-performance memory. In June, the company raised prices for iPads and MacBooks, saying it could no longer fully shield customers from rising memory and storage costs.
iPhone 18 Pro prices have also increased
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299, according to the supplied report. Both starting prices are $100 higher than those of their iPhone 17 Pro counterparts. Higher prices could make some buyers more cautious, particularly if they are considering upgrading from an older device. However, the reported component cuts do not prove that price increases alone caused the change in orders.
What could this mean for iPhone buyers?
The reported production adjustment highlights how the AI boom could affect everyday consumer electronics, not just data centres and specialist computing hardware. If memory costs remain high, manufacturers may face difficult choices between absorbing higher expenses, raising prices or adjusting production. For buyers, that could mean more expensive devices or fewer attractive upgrade deals. For now, the reported 15% reduction remains unverified by Reuters, and Apple has not publicly confirmed the supplier order changes. The extent of any effect on iPhone availability or future pricing is therefore unclear.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max have hit the stores in India on September 18. What followed were hours-long queues and massive crowds outside the Apple stores as people rushed to get their hands on the newly launched device. But amid the launch-day excitement, some buyers said they were making significant financial commitments to purchase the new phones. People travelled to different cities, and some even sold gold just to buy the phone.According to an India Today Tech report, a Delhi man said that he sold gold to buy an iPhone 18 Pro for his wife at the Apple Store in DLF Mall of India in Noida. The man was among those waiting outside the store before it opened at 8 am. He said he wanted to surprise his wife with the phone. Another man at the store had travelled from Punjab to buy an iPhone 18 Pro Max for himself and an iPhone 18 Pro for his fiancée. They had been waiting outside the store since 6 am and reportedly spent over Rs 3.5 lakh on the two phones.According to the Apple website, the latest models can be purchased through their online store and six retail outlets across the country.
Festive shopping faces a price test
The launch comes as India’s wider consumer-electronics market enters the festive shopping season with prices under pressure. Rising memory and component costs have pushed up prices of smartphones, laptops and other electronic goods, while analysts expect higher prices to weigh on upgrade volumes.According to a Moneycontrol report, Amazon India has also acknowledged some softness in electronics volumes. The company has signalled that rising prices are encouraging consumers to hold on to existing devices for longer. The company expects electronics sales to grow in value during the festive period, even as longer upgrade cycles affect volumes. Amazon is therefore focusing on affordability through exchange offers, EMI and no-cost EMI options during the festive sales season.

iPhone 18 Pro could get much more expensive: Here's why

The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to launch on September 9 with five major upgrades. Rumours point to a 2nm A20 Pro chip, a variable aperture camera, a 35 per cent smaller Dynamic Island, an in-house C2 5G modem, and 12GB of RAM for AI workloads.

iPhone 18 Pro launch: 5 things Apple could change this year

The iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to cross the Rs 2 lakh mark in India for its highest storage variants. The 2TB model could reach Rs 2,30,000, driven by the costly 2nm A20 Pro chip, 12GB RAM, variable aperture camera, and heavy local taxation.

iPhone 18 Pro Max India price: Could Apple cross the Rs 2 lakh mark?

If you are considering buying an iPhone 17 Pro, waiting a few weeks could make more sense. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September, and current leaks point to several meaningful upgrades rather than a simple yearly refresh. Apple has not confirmed the launch date or specifications, but September 8 or 9 are currently among the reported possibilities.
Here are nine changes that could make the wait worthwhile
1. A new 2nm A20 Pro chip The biggest internal upgrade could be Apple's A20 Pro, reportedly built using TSMC's 2nm process. The smaller process should help improve performance and power efficiency, which could benefit gaming and on-device AI. 2. Apple's C2 modemApple is expected to continue replacing third-party modem technology with its own. The C2 modem could improve connectivity while reducing power consumption. Some reports also suggest Apple is exploring broader satellite connectivity. 3. A smaller Dynamic IslandThe front of the iPhone could look cleaner. Reports suggest Apple may reduce the size of the Dynamic Island, with under-display Face ID technology potentially helping free up screen space. Whether Apple can achieve the full change this year remains uncertain. 4. The camera could get a major hardware changeThe 48MP main Fusion camera is widely rumoured to gain a variable aperture. Unlike the fixed aperture on recent Pro models, the lens could physically adjust how much light reaches the sensor. That could mean better control in bright and dark scenes, as well as greater control over background blur and depth of field. 5. Better telephoto photographyApple could also give the telephoto camera a wider aperture and improve its optics. That could be particularly useful when shooting subjects in low light or using zoom. 6. A simpler Camera ControlThe Camera Control introduced with the iPhone 16 could be redesigned. Reports suggest Apple may remove some of its touch-sensitive components while retaining the main camera controls, potentially making it easier to use. 7. More efficient displaysThe Pro models are expected to retain 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch OLED displays, but could move to an improved LTPO+ technology. The main benefit may be efficiency, helping the phone reduce power consumption. 8. A bigger Pro Max batteryThe iPhone 18 Pro Max could receive a particularly noticeable battery upgrade. Current reports suggest a capacity of around 5,567mAh for US models, compared with 5,088mAh for the US iPhone 17 Pro Max. Combined with the 2nm chip and C2 modem, that could translate into longer real-world battery life. 9. Satellite connectivity could go furtherApple already offers satellite-based emergency features. The next step could be satellite connectivity capable of supporting more than emergency communication, although availability would depend heavily on network infrastructure and regional support.
Should you wait for iPhone 18 Pro?
For existing iPhone 17 Pro owners, the upgrade may not be essential. But for someone about to buy a new Pro iPhone, the combination of a 2nm chip, variable-aperture camera, larger battery, smaller Dynamic Island and C2 modem could make waiting worthwhile. There is one big catch: none of these specifications are officially confirmed by Apple yet. The launch date, pricing and final feature list could still change.

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to arrive in September 2026 with several upgrades, including an A20 Pro 2nm chip, C2 modem, variable-aperture camera, larger Pro Max battery and smaller Dynamic Island. Apple has yet to confirm the specifications or launch date.

Here are nine changes that could make the wait worthwhile 1. A new 2nm A20 Pro chip The biggest internal upgrade could be Apple's A20 Pro, reportedly built using TSMC's 2nm process. The smaller process should help improve performance and power efficiency, which could benefit gaming and on-device AI. 2. Apple's C2 modem Apple is expected to continue replacing third-party modem technology with its own. The C2 modem could improve connectivity while reducing power consumption. Some reports also suggest Apple is exploring broader satellite connectivity. 3. A smaller Dynamic Island The front of the iPhone could look cleaner. Reports suggest Apple may reduce the size of the Dynamic Island, with under-display Face ID technology potentially helping free up screen space. Whether Apple can achieve the full change this year remains uncertain. 4. The camera could get a major hardware change The 48MP main Fusion camera is widely rumoured to gain a variable aperture. Unlike the fixed aperture on recent Pro models, the lens could physically adjust how much light reaches the sensor. That could mean better control in bright and dark scenes, as well as greater control over background blur and depth of field. 5. Better telephoto photography Apple could also give the telephoto camera a wider aperture and improve its optics. That could be particularly useful when shooting subjects in low light or using zoom. 6. A simpler Camera Control The Camera Control introduced with the iPhone 16 could be redesigned. Reports suggest Apple may remove some of its touch-sensitive components while retaining the main camera controls, potentially making it easier to use. 7. More efficient displays The Pro models are expected to retain 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch OLED displays, but could move to an improved LTPO+ technology. The main benefit may be efficiency, helping the phone reduce power consumption. 8. A bigger Pro Max battery The iPhone 18 Pro Max could receive a particularly noticeable battery upgrade. Current reports suggest a capacity of around 5,567mAh for US models, compared with 5,088mAh for the US iPhone 17 Pro Max. Combined with the 2nm chip and C2 modem, that could translate into longer real-world battery life. 9. Satellite connectivity could go further Apple already offers satellite-based emergency features. The next step could be satellite connectivity capable of supporting more than emergency communication, although availability would depend heavily on network infrastructure and regional support. Should you wait for iPhone 18 Pro? For existing iPhone 17 Pro owners, the upgrade may not be essential. From 2nm chip to bigger battery: 9 iPhone 18 Pro upgrades to know

Apple could be preparing one of its biggest iPhone camera changes in years. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are widely expected to get a variable-aperture main camera, a feature Apple has never previously used on an iPhone. If the reports are accurate, the change could make the biggest difference when shooting video in difficult lighting. The idea is simple. Current Pro iPhones use a fixed aperture on their main camera. The iPhone 18 Pro could instead physically adjust the lens opening, allowing more light into the camera when conditions get dark. That matters because night video is much harder than night photography.
Why variable aperture could help at night
When filming in a dark street, restaurant or concert, a phone has limited light to work with. It can increase exposure through software, but that can introduce noise and make shadows look muddy. A wider physical aperture gives the sensor more light before the image-processing system has to compensate. That could mean cleaner shadows, less visible noise and better-looking detail in dark video. It could also help the phone maintain more natural shutter speeds in difficult conditions. The technology has been reported by multiple sources, including Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and supply-chain reports. Apple has reportedly begun production of components for the system.
It is not only about night video
The same hardware could make the iPhone 18 Pro more flexible during the day. The aperture could close in bright conditions, giving the camera more control over exposure. It could also provide greater control over depth of field, potentially creating more natural background separation than software-only effects. That is a major shift in philosophy for the iPhone camera. Instead of relying almost entirely on computational photography to compensate for a fixed lens, Apple would be giving the hardware more control. There are also reports of a wider-aperture telephoto camera for the Pro models. A larger opening on that lens could improve low-light zoom performance and reduce noise when shooting distant subjects at night.
Apple could be making video the real winner
The most interesting part may be how the camera behaves while recording.Video cannot simply take a series of long exposures and combine them in the same way a phone can for some night photographs. Motion has to remain natural from frame to frame.A variable aperture gives Apple another physical control over exposure. That could help the iPhone balance brightness without relying as heavily on aggressive digital processing. But there is an important caveat: better night video is not guaranteed. The final result will depend on the aperture range, sensor size, lens quality, image stabilisation and Apple's processing. These details remain unconfirmed. Still, if Apple gets the implementation right, the iPhone 18 Pro's most important camera upgrade may not be another megapixel increase. It could be the simple ability to let more light in when the sun goes down.

The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to introduce Apple's first variable-aperture camera, allowing the main lens to physically control incoming light. The upgrade could improve night video by reducing noise, preserving shadow detail and giving Apple more control over exposure.

iPhone 18 Pro launching in about 2 months: Expected India price, launch date, A20 Pro chip, battery and more

If recent reports are accurate, the iPhone 18 Pro may look very similar to its predecessor. While some users expect a completely new design every year, Apple's history suggests that familiar hardware is often part of a much bigger strategy.Instead of redesigning the iPhone annually, Apple usually spreads major changes over several product generations. The company often chooses to improve what's inside the device before making noticeable changes to its appearance.
Apple has always favoured gradual improvements
Apple's product philosophy has long focused on refinement rather than frequent redesigns. Many iPhone generations have kept a similar appearance while introducing faster processors, better cameras, longer battery life and new software features. This approach allows Apple to improve reliability while giving developers and accessory makers a consistent platform. It also helps users upgrade without having to relearn how their devices work. Rather than chasing dramatic visual changes, Apple often prioritises the overall experience. Manufacturing becomes simpler and more efficient Keeping a familiar design can also benefit manufacturing. When Apple reuses parts of an existing design, suppliers can continue using established production lines instead of building entirely new manufacturing systems. This reduces production risks, improves assembly efficiency and helps Apple manufacture millions of devices at a faster pace. A mature design also tends to have fewer production issues, which is important when launching new iPhones in large volumes worldwide.Internal upgrades often matter more than the designReports suggest the iPhone 18 Pro could receive meaningful upgrades inside the device, even if its appearance changes only slightly. Expected improvements include the new A20 processor, faster on-device AI through Apple Intelligence, camera enhancements, improved power efficiency and better thermal management. These upgrades affect how the phone performs every day, even if they are less visible than a redesigned exterior. For many users, faster performance, longer battery life and smarter AI features may have a greater impact than a different camera layout or new frame design.
Apple balances innovation with long-term value
Apple also designs products with long software support in mind. By evolving hardware gradually, the company can optimise iOS, improve reliability and maintain compatibility across several generations of iPhones. This strategy also supports Apple's wider ecosystem, where accessories such as cases, chargers and MagSafe products often remain compatible across multiple devices. Why does every iPhone look similar?

Apple has not officially announced the price of the iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max. However, several analysts now believe the company could increase prices when the new phones arrive later this year. The reason is not just one expensive component. Instead, several cost pressures are coming together at the same time. Memory chips have become much more expensive. One of the biggest reasons is the sharp rise in memory prices. The AI boom has created huge demand for DRAM and NAND flash memory, as cloud companies buy massive amounts of memory for AI servers. That has pushed prices higher for consumer electronics as well. Industry analysts estimate Apple could pay significantly more for the same amount of memory than it did last year, increasing the cost of every iPhone it builds.
AI hardware is becoming more powerful
Modern smartphones are no longer designed only for apps and cameras. They are increasingly built to run AI features directly on the device. The iPhone 18 Pro is widely expected to feature a faster A20 chip, a more capable Neural Engine and additional hardware to support Apple Intelligence. These upgrades improve AI performance but also make the phone more expensive to manufacture.Manufacturing costs continue to rise Even if Apple keeps a familiar design, manufacturing costs continue to increase. Higher labour costs, stricter quality standards, advanced production techniques and more complex camera systems all add to the overall cost of building each device. Apple has also continued expanding manufacturing outside China, investing heavily in countries such as India while maintaining high production standards. Tariffs and global trade can affect pricing Trade policies also remain an important factor. Tariffs on imported components or finished products can increase Apple's overall costs depending on where devices are manufactured and sold. Although Apple works to diversify its supply chain, changing trade rules can still influence pricing decisions across global markets.
Apple may absorb some costs but not all
Apple has historically avoided frequent iPhone price increases by improving supply-chain efficiency and negotiating with suppliers. However, recent price increases for MacBooks and iPads show the company is becoming less willing to absorb rising component costs on its own. That does not guarantee the iPhone 18 Pro will become more expensive, as Apple has yet to announce official pricing. But if memory costs remain high and AI hardware becomes more advanced, analysts believe higher prices are becoming increasingly likely.

The iPhone 18 Pro could launch with a higher price as Apple faces rising memory costs, AI hardware upgrades, manufacturing expenses and global trade pressures. Apple has not confirmed pricing, but analysts say several factors are pushing costs higher.

Apple may absorb some costs but not all Apple has historically avoided frequent iPhone price increases by improving supply-chain efficiency and negotiating with suppliers.

Apple has not confirmed pricing, but analysts say several factors are pushing costs higher.

iPhone 18 Pro price rise? Here's what's pushing Apple's costs higher

Apple's A20 chip is expected to arrive with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max later this year. While Apple has not officially revealed every detail, industry reports suggest the processor will be built using a newer manufacturing process, bringing improvements in speed, efficiency and artificial intelligence. But what do those changes actually mean if you use your iPhone every day?
Apps could feel quicker and smoother
The first thing most people notice after upgrading is how quickly apps respond. With the A20 chip, everyday apps such as Messages, Safari, Instagram, Maps and Camera are expected to launch faster and switch more smoothly in the background. Heavy apps may also stay open longer without needing to reload. The improvement may not always be dramatic, but daily use should feel more responsive. Gaming could become more stable Mobile games continue to demand more power every year.A faster graphics processor could help games run at higher frame rates while reducing lag during longer gaming sessions. More efficient hardware may also help keep temperatures lower, allowing performance to remain stable instead of slowing down after several minutes.
Better battery life without a bigger battery
One of the biggest advantages of newer chips is efficiency rather than raw speed. If reports are accurate, the A20 should consume less power while delivering better performance. That could translate into longer battery life for web browsing, video streaming, navigation, gaming and everyday multitasking without increasing battery size.Photos and videos may improve automatically Modern smartphone photography depends heavily on AI and image processing. The A20 is expected to process images faster, improve low-light photography and deliver better HDR performance. Video recording could also benefit from smoother stabilisation and quicker processing for high-resolution formats. Many improvements happen automatically without users changing any settings.AI could become much more useful Artificial intelligence is likely to be one of the biggest focuses of the A20 chip. A more powerful Neural Engine would allow Apple Intelligence features to run faster on the device, helping with writing assistance, photo editing, voice processing, notifications and Siri requests while keeping more data on the phone instead of sending it to cloud servers. This could make AI responses feel faster and improve privacy.
Is the A20 upgrade worth waiting for?
For users with relatively new iPhones, the difference may not feel revolutionary. However, people upgrading from devices that are three or four years old are likely to notice improvements across almost every part of the experience from app performance and battery life to gaming, photography and AI features. Rather than one headline-grabbing upgrade, the A20 appears to focus on making the entire iPhone experience smoother, faster and more efficient throughout the day.

Apple's A20 chip is expected to bring faster app launches, smoother gaming, better battery life, improved photography and more capable on-device AI. Here's what the processor could mean for everyday iPhone users beyond benchmark scores.

Sensitive documents linked to Apple's upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max have reportedly been leaked online following a cyberattack on Tata Electronics, one of Apple's key manufacturing partners in India. According to Reuters, the files were published on the dark web by the ransomware group World Leaks and allegedly contain confidential supplier information, internal photographs and component details related to unreleased iPhone models. The reported leak has drawn attention because Apple closely guards information about its supply chain. If authentic, the documents could expose how Apple's next-generation iPhones are built and identify companies responsible for manufacturing individual components.
What has reportedly been leaked?
Reuters reported that the leaked files include confidential documents mapping hundreds of components used in the iPhone 18 Pro series to specific suppliers. The records reportedly identify manufacturers of camera modules, batteries, chips and other hardware that Apple does not publicly disclose. The leaked material also allegedly contains photographs of iPhone 18 Pro devices undergoing drop-testing at a Tata Electronics facility in early 2026. According to Reuters, the images show a grey, slab-style smartphone with Apple's familiar triple-camera design. Apple's supplier network is considered one of its most closely protected business assets. Keeping supplier relationships confidential helps the company protect product development, negotiate with vendors and reduce the risk of counterfeiting before new devices are officially launched. If the leaked information is genuine, it could reveal where Apple depends on multiple suppliers and where it relies on only a handful of manufacturers, potentially exposing vulnerabilities within its global supply chain. The reported breach also comes as Apple continues shifting more manufacturing from China to India. According to Counterpoint Research, India is expected to produce around 26 per cent of the world's iPhones in 2026, compared with just 6 per cent four years earlier.
Apple's India strategy faces an unexpected challenge
Tata Electronics has become one of Apple's fastest-growing manufacturing partners, assembling iPhones and supplying components as Apple expands production in India.According to Reuters, Apple is investigating the incident alongside Tata Electronics. The report added that Tata has restricted access to sensitive internal systems and hired a global consulting firm to conduct a forensic audit while strengthening its cybersecurity measures. The reported cyberattack could test the trust that underpins Apple's manufacturing partnerships, particularly as India plays a larger role in the company's global production strategy.
Has Tata Electronics responded?
As of now, neither Apple nor Tata Electronics had issued an official public response to the newly reported iPhone 18 Pro supplier documents and photographs. Apple's unreleased iPhone 18 Pro documents reportedly leaked on the dark web

For years, Apple has improved the iPhone with better cameras, faster processors and brighter displays. But the iPhone 18 Pro could mark a different kind of upgrade. According to multiple industry reports and analyst predictions, Apple's next flagship is expected to put artificial intelligence at the centre of the user experience. Rather than adding flashy new hardware, Apple appears to be focusing on making everyday tasks faster, smarter and more personal through on-device AI. If the reports prove accurate, the iPhone 18 Pro could become Apple's most advanced AI-powered smartphone so far.
A new chip designed for AI
At the heart of the expected upgrade is Apple's A20 Pro chip. Reports suggest it will be built using TSMC's next-generation 2-nanometre manufacturing process, making it smaller, faster and more power efficient than previous chips. A more efficient processor is not only expected to improve gaming and battery life but also allow Apple Intelligence features to run more smoothly on the device itself. Running AI directly on the phone improves privacy and reduces the need to send personal information to cloud servers. Industry analysts also expect the Pro models to feature 12GB of RAM, giving the system more memory to handle multiple AI tasks at the same time.
Apple Intelligence could become more useful
Apple introduced Apple Intelligence to bring AI features across the iPhone, iPad and Mac. With the iPhone 18 Pro, many of those tools are expected to become faster and more capable.Users could see improvements in Siri, smarter writing assistance, automatic message summaries, image editing, document creation and contextual suggestions based on what they are doing on their phones. Instead of asking users to open different apps, AI may work quietly in the background, helping organise information, complete tasks and make recommendations throughout the day. Apple is also expected to continue focusing on privacy by processing many AI requests directly on the device whenever possible.
Cameras may also benefit from AI
Artificial intelligence is likely to play a bigger role in photography as well. Several reports suggest Apple is testing a variable aperture system for the main camera. Combined with AI image processing, this could improve portrait photography, low-light performance and colour accuracy. Rather than simply increasing megapixels, Apple appears to be using AI to help users capture better photos automatically in different lighting conditions. Video recording, image editing and object recognition are also expected to receive AI-powered improvements.
Why AI matters more than hardware now
The smartphone industry has reached a stage where yearly hardware upgrades have become smaller. As a result, companies are increasingly competing through software and artificial intelligence instead of only adding bigger displays or faster charging speeds. Google has Gemini, Samsung offers Galaxy AI, while Microsoft and OpenAI continue expanding AI across devices and services. Apple is expected to respond by making AI a much larger part of the iPhone experience. The iPhone 18 Pro may therefore represent more than just another flagship launch. It could show how Apple plans to compete in the next phase of the smartphone industry, where intelligent software becomes as important as hardware.
Launch timeline
Apple has not officially confirmed the iPhone 18 Pro or its features. However, based on Apple's usual schedule, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are widely expected to be announced during the company's September 2026 launch event. Until then, the reported features remain based on supply-chain information, analyst reports and industry leaks.

The iPhone 18 Pro could become Apple's most AI-focused smartphone yet. Reports point to a new A20 Pro chip, more RAM, smarter Apple Intelligence features and AI-powered camera improvements, showing Apple's growing focus on intelligent software rather than major hardware redesigns.
