After guiding India to an impressive seven-wicket win over West Indies in the third T20I, in Guyana on Tuesday (August 08), Suryakumar Yadav admitted to his ODI numbers being 'quite poor' as he continues to pile runs consistently in T20Is.&nbsp;"If I'm honest, I know my numbers in one-day cricket are quite poor. There is no shame in admitting that. We talk about honesty, you need to be honest but it's even more important how you work and improve on it," Surya told reporters after slamming a match-winning 41-ball 83 versus the Windies.&nbsp;

Now, former Indian opener-turned-commentator, Aakash Chopra, has opened up on Surya's ODI numbers and cited Rohit Sharma's late bloom in Tests, something which might inspire&nbsp;the former. On his YouTube channel, Chopra said, "Surya has candidly, honestly and openly accepted that his ODI record is really bad, it is nothing to be ashamed of, there is nothing to hide as well, and he already knows what everyone is saying."

"He also said that Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid have told him that he has to understand the format a little more. He is not the only one and he is not the first player as well who is taking a little time to shift from one format to the other," he further asserted.

<h2>'Rohit Sharma has fallen in love with Test cricket'</h2>

Chopra then shifted focus to the current Indian captain Rohit and his initial struggles in Tests before his resurgence&nbsp;in late 2019. "If you look at Rohit Sharma when he was playing in the middle-order in the initial phase of his career, you left he was not comfortable with the format. He used to bat well and then play a bad shot. People used to wonder why because everything was going well and then came the bad shot. This was at the start of his Test career. After he began opening, he understood the pulse of the format. Now it feels like Rohit has fallen in love with Test cricket. He needed some time to understand the pulse of the other format," Chopra added.

Prior to becoming the Indian opener in late 2019, Rohit struggled in the red-ball format due to inconsistency and injuries. However, he has turned it around&nbsp;since batting up the order. He has scored seven tons as an opener, with a best of 212, out of his ten centuries overall.&nbsp;

Thus, the former Indian cricketer-turned-expert has suggested Surya take a leaf from Rohit's book and give himself some time in the ODI format in order to understand the pulse of the game and then explode. It is to be noted that the right-hander has only managed&nbsp;511 runs -- with two fifties -- at an average of&nbsp;24.33 in 26 ODIs. It will be interesting to see if he makes the cut in India's Asia Cup squad, and later in the ODI World Cup line-up. He has been exceptional as a T20I batter, averaging over 45, but his ODI numbers need significant improvement.

Aakash Chopra cites Rohit Sharma's initial Test struggles to decode Suryakumar Yadav's ODI woes

After keeping India's hopes alive in the five-match T20Is with a blistering 83 in the third game, in Guyana on Tuesday (August 08), Suryakumar Yadav admitted to his ODI struggles. While the swashbuckling right-hander has been in top form in the shortest format of the game since his international debut, the same cannot be said about his ODI numbers. In 26 ODIs, Surya averages a poor 24.33, having managed only 511 runs with two fifties.

<h2>'ODIs&nbsp;one of the most challenging formats for me'</h2>

Following Hardik Pandya-led India's easy win in the third T20I versus West Indies, Player of the Match Surya said, "We've played so much T20 cricket now, that we have become habituated to it. We don't play as much one-day cricket anymore. That's one of the most challenging formats for me, because you need to have different gears. If too many wickets fall early on, you need to start off with a Test cricket-like approach. Then you go at run-a-ball and then take the T20 approach."

<section itemprop="articleBody">
"Right now, I'm trying to apply what the team management has told me about ODI cricket. I'm trying to take my time and do what the team requires of me. I'll try to keep the faith that the team has shown in me. In T20 cricket, we know what to do because we play so much of it. You just need to go and express your game," the Mumbai Indians (MI) batter stated.

We want you to play 45 to 50 balls. That's the sign from the team management, now that's on me how I want to play my game if I'm batting in the last 15-18 overs. Now, that's in my hand how to make use of this opportunity. I need to bat as per the team requirement."

In KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer's absence, Surya has been given a long rope in India's middle-order in the ODI line-up. However, he has failed to get going and is yet to cement his spot. My ODI numbers are quite poor: Suryakumar admits to 50-over struggles after blistering 83 in 3rd T20I vs WI

Hardik Pandya-led India have their&nbsp;task cut out to keep the five-match T20I series alive after losing the first two games to hosts West Indies. Ahead of the third T20I, to be held in Guyana on Tuesday (August 08), former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter, Kamran Akmal, schooled Indian star Sanju Samson. After an impressive 41-ball 51 in the third and final ODI, Samson has not got going in the T20Is. He has managed 12 (12) and 7 (7) so far and, thus, the Pakistani veteran spoke at length on Samson's disappointing runs in the opening two games.&nbsp;

Samson was expected to finish off the proceedings for India in the series opener, coming out at No. 6 in a chase of 150, but he fell for a run-a-ball 12. In the following game, he couldn't provide any late impetus to the Indian innings and fell for 7 as the visitors only managed 152/7, losing by two wickets. Akmal opined on Samson's lack of maturity in dealing with consequential moments and said on his Youtube channel,&nbsp;"It was disappointing to see Sanju Samson get out this way."

Akmal added, "He got a chance to bat a little higher, and there were a lot of overs left. It would have been the biggest statement. He is a class batter, but you need to stand up in such situations. He should be more mature in his approach. He has been around for a while now but is yet to cement his place in the team."

Samson made his international debut in 2015, however, he is yet to cement his spot in India's white-ball squads. While his numbers in ODIs are impressive, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper needs to step up in the shortest format of the game. He is being seen as a backup for KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, as the duo is running against time to get fully fit&nbsp;for the ODI World Cup.&nbsp;However, he also needs to perform in T20Is, with the next T20 World Cup to be held early next year&nbsp;in West Indies and the USA.

Samson will be raring to go&nbsp;in the third T20I between India and West Indies, in Guyana, on Tuesday evening (August 08) with the series on the line for the Men in Blue.

'He should be more mature': Former Pak wicketkeeper offers advice to Indian star amid struggles in WI T20Is

Team India lost the second T20I, of the five-match series, to hosts West Indies, in Guyana, on Sunday (August 6). After losing the series opener by four runs, Hardik Pandya &amp; Co. lost the second match by two wickets in defence of 153. Following the loss, many have once again slammed head coach Rahul Dravid for India's downfall since the WTC final defeat.

<h2>'Rahul has become a soft target only because...'</h2>

However, former India pacer Dodda Ganesh has backed under-fire Dravid and slammed his critics on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

In a post, Ganesh wrote, "Stop admonishing Rahul Dravid for every damn thing. He had no role in the captain juggling his bowlers today. Of late, Rahul has become a soft target only because he doesn’t say much in the media."

Many have slammed Hardik-Dravid&nbsp;as in-form spinner Yuzvendra Chahal didn't even complete his full quota of overs in the second T20I, where he finished with 3-0-19-2, whereas Axar Patel never rolled his arms.

Dravid is not having the best of time as India's head coach. Dravid's term as India's head coach is till the forthcoming home ODI World Cup. Irrespective of his future, the former Indian captain&nbsp;will be adamant to revive the team's fortunes and lead them to their third 50-over title later this year.&nbsp;

Stop admonishing Rahul Dravid for everything: Former India pacer backs under-fire coach amid defeats vs WI

On Monday (July 31), the wait for the Indian cricket fans finally got over as Jasprit Bumrah's return was finalised. Bumrah, who has been out of international cricket since September 2022, was named as the captain of a second-string&nbsp;Indian team for the upcoming Ireland T20Is, in Dublin, next month. The Indian pacer's return was keenly awaited and his return is a huge blessing for Indian cricket ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, to be held in India in October-November.&nbsp;

Bumrah's performance, and leadership, will be closely monitored as the ace pacer marks his much-awaited international return. After his name was announced in the squad for the Ireland T20Is, India's former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh congratulated Bumrah for his return and being named the captain but hopes he does not get injured again with the ODI WC just a few months away.&nbsp;

Sharing his views on the squad, Harbhajan said in a video on his YouTube channel, "Jasprit Bumrah has made a comeback. He was injured for a long time and his return was awaited. He has come back and has been made the captain straightaway. Congratulations to Jassi for becoming the captain and foremost for getting fit. I hope and keep my fingers crossed that Jassi doesn't get injured again."

"He has been missed a lot, whether you see the WTC final or the cricket that was played before that. I used to say earlier and am saying it today as well that if we talk about batting, we talk about Virat Kohli, and if there is a Virat Kohli of bowling, it is Jasprit Bumrah. There is no bigger name than him," Harbhajan added.

All eyes will be on Bumrah when India take on Ireland in the three T20Is next month. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is set to lead India in the forthcoming Asian Games in Japan, has been named as the speedster's deputy, whereas the likes of Tilak Verma and Rinku Singh earned their maiden call-up. Apart from Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna has also made his comeback after a lengthy injury layoff.

I hope and keep my fingers crossed that Jassi doesn't get injured again." I used to say earlier and am saying it today as well that if we talk about batting, we talk about Virat Kohli, and if there is a Virat Kohli of bowling, it is Jasprit Bumrah. Fingers crossed that Bumrah doesn't get injured again, says Harbhajan ahead of India's Ireland T20Is

India are set to face West Indies in the third and final ODI in Trinidad on Tuesday (August 01). With the series levelled at 1-1, there is everything to play for the Rohit Sharma-led visitors as they continue to prepare for the forthcoming World Cup at home, which starts on October 05. Ahead of the final ODI, former India captain Kapil Dev made a glaring remark when he stated that the current Indian players are 'arrogant' and feel they know it all due to their big pay cheques.

In an interview with The Week, Kapil reacted to an old statement from his former teammate Sunil Gavaskar, where the Little Master revealed that&nbsp;the current Indian players have never called him up for help despite going through rough patches, unlike yesteryear superstars such as Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid, etc.

To this, Kapil opined, "Sometimes, when too much money comes, arrogance comes. These cricketers, they feel they know everything. That's the difference. I would say there are so many cricketers who need help. When Sunil Gavaskar is there, why can't you talk? Why should there be ego? They feel they are good enough. Maybe they are good enough, but extra help from somebody, who has seen 50 seasons of cricket, won't hurt. He knows which side the grass grows and where the sun comes out from."

<h2>'Such questions crop up when....'</h2>

Now, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has reacted to all such claims. In a press conference ahead of the final ODI versus the Windies, Jadeja said, "I didn't know when he said this. I don't search too many things on social media. Everyone has their own opinion. It's nothing like that. Everybody is enjoying their game and working hard. Players are not taking their place in the team for granted. Whenever they are getting chances, they are giving their 100 per cent and trying to win games for India."

"Such questions crop up when India loses a game. Nobody is arrogant. Everybody is representing India. We are working hard and playing for the country. There is no personal agenda," Jadeja added.

Talking about the ODI series opener, Rohit-led India won by five wickets in pursuit of 115 before the Men in Blue rested Rohit and Virat Kohli in the following ODI. Hardik Pandya led the side as the second-stringed Indian team lost by six wickets, in defence of 181. The series is up for grabs and India will be desperate to not concede the series to a team that is not even going to participate in the upcoming 50-over World Cup.

India's stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya has said that his 'body is fine' and he only needs to up his workload to be able to bowl in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup. Pandya made the comments after India's loss in the second ODI against West Indies in Barbados.

“My body is fine. I have to bowl more overs and get my workload up for the World Cup. I’m a turtle right now not the rabbit and hoping everything goes right as the World Cup comes on,” said Pandya who bowled 6.4 overs in the match for 38 runs and no wickets.

India's performance was below par in the game as they bundled out for a mere 181 runs in 40.5 overs. Notably, India had rested Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma for the match. Coach Rahul Dravid termed resting his two best batters as an 'experiment to find answers' due to injuries to key players namely Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer.

Pandya, however, thinks it's exciting to go 1-1 in the third game as it'll be 'more challenging.'

“To be honest, you want to be going 1-1 to the third game as it’ll be more challenging and exciting. They will be tested, we will be tested now that the series stands 1-1. The next game will be exciting for the viewers as well as the players,” he said.

The stand-in skipper although, acknowledged the batting failure, saying the batters didn't bat as they were supposed to.

“We didn’t bat the way we were supposed to. The wicket was better than it was in the first game. Everyone barring Shubman (Gill) hit fielders and got out. Disappointing but many things to learn,” said Pandya, who himself scored 7 off 14 balls.

India, who&nbsp;won the first game, will now face West Indies in the third and final ODI of the series on August 1. The home side won&nbsp;the second ODI by six wickets. This was also West Indies' first ODI win against India in four years.

'Turtle' Hardik Pandya finds it 'exciting to go into third ODI' with series levelled

R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been a highly successful bowling pair for India in the purest format of the game. They have given sleepless nights to every Test team touring India whereas the duo have also enjoyed bowling in the subcontinent and&nbsp;had some success overseas (especially in the Caribbean island). On Day Four of the second and final Test in Port-of-Spain in Trinidad, Ashwin and Jadeja achieved a massive feat by becoming only the second Indian pair to have 500, or more, wickets.&nbsp;

Ashwin and Jadeja got to the feat during the final session on Day Four, on Sunday (July 23), when the former claimed two breakthroughs in West Indies' stiff 365-run chase in the series decider. Thus, Ashwin and Jadeja joined Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh in the 500-wicket club as a pair.&nbsp;

IND vs WI: R Ashwin-Ravindra Jadeja join Anil Kumble-Harbhajan Singh in ELITE list during series finale

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the star performer for Team India in their massive win over West Indies in the two-match Test series opener in Dominica. The left-hander started his Test career with an impressive 171 to become the 17th Indian to hit a century on Test debut, 113th overall. Jaiswal started on a promising note and never looked out of sorts to make a roaring start to his international career.&nbsp;

Ever since Jaiswal announced his arrival in style at the international level, talks are rife that he should be given a run in the white-ball formats as well. While India have only a handful of games left prior to the ODI World Cup's commencement, at home, some feel Jaiswal can still be tried in the 50-over format. Former Indian skipper and BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly has backed Jaiswal to be a part of the ODI WC squad. In conversation with the Telegraph on the young player, Ganguly heaped praise on the 21-year-old and feels he is a 'must' for the ODI WC squad.

“Scoring a hundred on debut is always massive. I too have done it, so I know how special it is. Even technique-wise, he seems really good. A left-handed batsman’s presence in the team always helps. So, having him in the World Cup squad is a must,” Ganguly emphasised.

It is to be noted that Jaiswal is not part of India's ODI squad for the West Indies tour. His name has been announced in the India squad for the 2023 Asian Games but looks unlikely to make the cut for this year's marquee ODI event on home soil. At present, the young batter is gearing up for India's second and final Test, to be held in Port-of-Spain in Trinidad, which commences on July 20.

Rohit Sharma-led India will go for a series whitewash to also add vital points in their kitty in the new 2023-25 WTC cycle.

Also read: WI vs IND: Rohit Sharma talks about role of seniors in grooming youngsters as India aims for smooth transition It is to be noted that Jaiswal is not part of India's ODI squad for the West Indies tour. REVEALED! BCCI announces full schedule of India's tour of South Africa, set to kick off on December 10

India are set to kick off their campaign in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle with the two-match Test series versus West Indies. The home side will host Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. in the first Test, at Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica, on July 12 as India look set to start a new era in red-ball format with the additions of many youngsters in the line-up. When the Test squad for the WI series was announced, Cheteshwar Pujara's name was missing as many believe he has been made the scapegoat for India's WTC final loss versus Australia, at The Oval, London, last month.

Pujara averaged 32 in the 2021-23 WTC cycle and has only scored one ton since early 2019. The right-hander's numbers have been dismal, to say the least, but the likes of Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane have also not performed as per expectations for quite some time. Thus, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh opined on Pujara's omission and feels he has been India's 'unsung hero' for a long time and deserves more respect.

<h2>Pujara has been doing the dirty work of hanging in there'</h2>

"I have a lot of respect for Chesteshwar Pujara for what he has achieved. He has been an unsung hero of the Indian team for many years now. He has been one of those pillars of strength for India, doing the dirty work of hanging in there, making sure other batters got their comfort," Harbhajan told news agency&nbsp;PTI.

Bhajji asserted, "I believe he needs to be given a bit more respect than what he has been given and the way he was chucked out of the team was a surprise for me. Because he isn't the only one not scoring runs. There are others as well who play in that same team who are scoring runs at same average."

Harbhajan also pointed out that a lot of talk has been around Pujara's strike-rate in Tests, but he feels he has also held up one end firmly with his defensive approach. "In case of Pujara, we keep hearing about his strike-rate of scoring runs in Tests but because of that strike-rate, the wickets remain intact and that's a huge contribution. So you have to see which guy is contributing what. You need to see how much the team needs him. In my opinion, the team still needs him. When you go abroad (SENA countries), you need one such batter as you can't have everyone playing strokes all the time. You need someone who plays normal Test cricket, just like Chesteshwar Pujara," he added.

Pujara recently scored a ton in the 2023 Duleep Trophy semi-final for West Zone. He has been replaced by the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad for the WI series, however, if he scores a bulk of runs in the domestic circuit, he might still make a comeback in the Indian team.

In 103 Tests, Pujara has&nbsp;7195 runs along with 19 tons and 35 half-centuries at an average of&nbsp;43.60, including a best of 206.

'He has been Team India's unsung hero': Harbhajan praises senior batter ahead of West Indies Tests

On Wednesday (July 05), the Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI selection committee picked a 15-man squad for India's five-match T20I series versus West Indies, in the Caribbean island. The five T20Is will get underway on August 03 as Hardik Pandya will lead a young side. The squad features several young talents who rose to the occasion in IPL 2023 as the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Verma, and Mukesh Kumar were inducted, whereas the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel and Sanju Samson have returned.

Although many have raised concerns over the omission of Rinku Singh and Rahul Tripathi, the likes of Washington Sundar, Shivam Mavi, Prithvi Shaw and Jitesh Sharma also could not find a place. Moreover, senior pros such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have continued to remain absent from the T20I squad as it seems certain that selectors have entrusted Hardik Pandya to lead the side in the shortest format for the future. Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra reviewed the squad on his YouTube channel and feels that Hardik is being considered to lead India in next year's T20 World Cup in West Indies and the USA.

"Hardik Pandya, who had been given the captaincy after the T20 World Cup - it seems like that's now the final fixture, that Hardik Pandya will lead the Indian T20 team for times to come, which means until the upcoming World Cup," Aakash Chopra said in a video shared on his YouTube channel.

"I feel they had already moved in that direction and it is still the same, nothing has changed. None of the seniors have been picked. KL Rahul is unavailable but now it is extended that you have not played Rohit and Kohli since the World Cup," Chopra added.

India's five-match T20I series versus the two-time champions West Indies will kick off on August 03 and conclude on August 13. Soon after, Hardik &amp; Co. will also feature in three T20Is versus Ireland, in Dublin, before the focus shifts entirely to the 2023 ODI World Cup at home.

On Tuesday (June 27), the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the much-awaited full schedule of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition, set to be held in India in October-November. India, under Rohit Sharma, will open their campaign versus Australia on October 08&nbsp;and aim to go the distance in the mega event and end their ten-year-long ICC title drought. After the schedule was announced, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag said that Team India will be eager to win it for Virat Kohli, who is in the twilight of his illustrious career.&nbsp;

India won the 2011 ODI World Cup, co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, under MS Dhoni. Back then, the players were motivated to give a fitting farewell to Sachin Tendulkar, who was playing his last 50-over World Cup. As the forthcoming World Cup is expected to be the last for Kohli, Sehwag feels India will be motivated to replicate the same for King Kohli.&nbsp;

<h2>'Everybody will look to win the World Cup for Virat Kohli'</h2>

"We played that World Cup for Tendulkar. We won the World Cup for Sachin paaji. Virat Kohli is the same now. Everybody will look to win the World Cup for him. He always gives more than 100 per cent," Sehwag told Star Sports.

"I think Virat Kohli is also looking to this World Cup. 100,000 people will watch you at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Virat knows how the pitches will behave. I am sure he will score a lot of runs and he will do his best to win the World Cup for India," the former Indian opener added.

Sehwag was part of Dhoni-led India's winning run in the 2011 edition&nbsp;where the Men in Blue beat Sri Lanka by six wickets in the tournament finale to win the trophy for the second time in the country's history.

India will lock horns with Australia in Chennai on October 08 in their tournament opener. They will play Pakistan on October 15, in Ahmedabad, whereas the tournament opener will take place between the last edition's finalists England and New Zealand on October 05&nbsp;at the same venue. The semi-finals will be hosted by Mumbai and Kolkata, respectively, whereas Ahmedabad will host the summit clash on November 19.&nbsp;

India would want to win 2023 ODI World Cup for Virat Kohli, says Virender Sehwag as ICC shares full schedule

On Friday (June 23), the BCCI selection committee named India's squads&nbsp;for their two-match Test series and three ODIs versus West Indies as the tour commences next month in the Caribbean. Rohit Sharma retained captaincy of the 16-man Test squad, despite criticism after India's WTC final loss, whereas Ajinkya Rahane regained the vice-captaincy post.

Rahane served as Virat Kohli's deputy in whites for a long time and even led the team with aplomb in his absence before losing the post in late 2021. Soon, he even lost his spot before making his comeback during the WTC finale versus Australia early this month, where he returned with a sublime 89 and 46. With injuries to Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah, Rahane once again got the vice-captaincy back and Little Master Sunil Gavaskar reacted to the same.

Gavaskar said there is 'nothing wrong' in Rahane regaining vice-captaincy but feels there was an opportunity lost to name a youngster as Rohit's deputy for the Windies tour. Talking to Sports Today, he said, "There is nothing wrong in having him [Ajinkya Rahane] as the vice-captain, but a missed opportunity to groom a young player. At least, tell a young player that we are looking at you as a future captain. So, he starts to think as a future leader."

<h2>'One is Shubman Gill and the other is....'</h2>

Further, Gavaskar named three youngsters who can lead India in whites going forward. "One is Shubman Gill and the other is Axar Patel [as future captains] because Axar comes in leaps and bounds, he just gets better every match. Giving him the responsibility as vice-captain will make them think. So, these are the two candidates in my view. If there are others, somebody like Ishan Kishan, once he cements his place in the team. He can come in the reckoning as well," the veteran added.

India's tour of West Indies kicks off on July 12, comprising two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is.

On Friday (June 23), the BCCI selection committee named India's squads for their two-match Test series and three ODIs versus West Indies as the tour commences next month in the Caribbean. So, he starts to think as a future leader." Also Read: Ashes 2023: James Anderson, Nathan Lyon throw ceremonial pitches during MLB London game - WATCH 'One is Shubman Gill and the other is....' Further, Gavaskar named three youngsters who can lead India in whites going forward. WATCH WION LIVE HERE You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. Gavaskar opines on Rahane regaining vice-captaincy, suggests three names as India's next Test skipper

Virat Kohli is a modern-day legend. Debuting in international cricket in 2008, he was part of MS Dhoni-led India's victorious run in the 2011 ODI World Cup but achieved sizeable success after the mega event. From being a chubby-faced lad, he transformed himself after an ordinary run in IPL 2008 to become one of the fittest cricketers in world cricket.

As a result, Kohli became a run machine across formats for Team India and took charge of the national side after MS Dhoni. To date, the 34-year-old remains fit as ever as he prepares&nbsp;hard for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 at home, later this year. Recently, Ishant Sharma -- veteran India pacer and Kohli's childhood friend -- narrated an unheard tale of Kohli and even lauded him for his inspiring transformation.

Speaking to Ranveer Allahbadia on his YouTube channel, Ishant said that he has seen the 'party phase' and the 'tattoo phase' of his Delhi teammate Kohli. "We were playing a U-19 match in Kolkata. He was batting overnight, yet partied all night and the next day he scored 250. I have seen that phase of Kohli as well. The best thing about him, according to me, is how he changed his physical aspect, starting in 2012, after the World Cup. He was training, but because of his diet, his mental strength and cricket, in general, went to a different level," Ishant stated.

Further, Ishant -- who was seen in action during IPL 2023 for Delhi Capitals (DC) -- revealed that he has seen Kohli eating&nbsp;Chhole Bhature&nbsp;(a famous Indian street food) only once or twice since 2012.&nbsp;

Ishant, a veteran of 105 Tests, further lauded Kohli and added, "Sachin [Tendulkar] paaji used to say hope is not a word, it's a feeling. But if you speak to Virat Kohli, the word 'hope' does not exist in his dictionary. His dictionary only has 'belief'. If you have belief, you can do anything. He is so intense," the senior pacer added.

Kohli will next be seen in action during Rohit Sharma-led India's two-match Test series versus West Indies in the Caribbean island, starting on July 12. The former Indian captain has 8,479,&nbsp;12,898 and 4,008 runs in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively.

Partied all night and scored 250 next day: Ishant shares unheard tale of Kohli, lauds his transformation

R Ashwin's omission from India's playing XI for the recently-held WTC final versus Australia created a huge stir on social media platforms and within the cricketing fraternity. As a result, India finished second by a huge margin, losing the coveted Test mace to Australia by 209 runs at The Oval, London.&nbsp;

With India missing out on winning yet another ICC title, since 2013, fans showed their frustration on the Indian players and called for the omission of some senior members. Recently, Ashwin reacted to Indian fans' outbursts while mentioning about MS Dhoni's leadership and the success India achieved under him.

On his Youtube channel, Ashwin began by congratulating Australia and said,&nbsp;"Congratulations Australia! It was a fantastic final and they completely deserve the win. There was a small advantage although as few players like Marnus Labuschagne played a couple of matches in county cricket. That was a small one because in a one-Test shootout you can't really say who will do what, but they thoroughly deserved it. Even in the last WTC cycle, they missed qualifying for the finals only by a whisker. They have been a consistent Test team like India."

<h2>'Under MS Dhoni,&nbsp;same squad of 15 and the XI will play throughput the year'</h2>

The veteran off-spinner highlighted Dhoni's significance as a leader and mentioned an important aspect. “It is understandable that there's a furore in India that we haven't won an ICC trophy in 10 years. I empathise with the fans. But the reaction on social media is that this player should be dropped and that player should be included. But quality of a player doesn't change overnight. Lot of us talk about MS Dhoni's leadership. What did he do? Ge kept it very simple. Under his regime, where I also played, he will pick a squad of 15. The same squad of 15 and the XI will play throughput the year. That sense of security is very important for a player,” Ashwin pointed out.

Under Dhoni, India won all ICC titles along with winning the Test mace.

This is not the first time when Ashwin emphasised&nbsp;on the need for sense of security among players within the dressing room. Soon after he returned to the country after WTC final snub, Ashwin talked about the "overthinker" name tag attached to him and reasoned out&nbsp;that it was&nbsp;natural for him to be "traumatised" and "overthink" knowing he has limited chances compared to a player assured of a longer run.&nbsp;

In&nbsp;an interaction with Indian Express, the 36-year-old Ashwin stated,&nbsp;"A lot of people marketed me and positioned me that I am an overthinker. A person who will get 15-20 matches on the go doesn’t have to be mentally overthinking. A person who knows that they will get only two games will be traumatised and will be overthinking because it’s my job. It’s my journey. So this is what suits me. If somebody is going to tell me, ‘you’re going to play 15 matches, you will be looked after, you will be this, you are responsible for players, you are in the leadership role, I won’t be overthinking. Why would I?"

Ashwin will now gear up for India's two-match Test series versus hosts West Indies, which will kick off Rohit &amp; Co.'s run in WTC 2023-25 cycle, starting on July 12.

R Ashwin credits MS Dhoni for creating 'sense of security' in Team India after WTC final snub

India locked horns with Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final and lost by 209 runs at The Oval, London earlier this month. With another failure in an ICC event, India's trophyless run continues in mega tournaments since 2013. Ever since Rohit Sharma took over the captaincy from Virat Kohli, he was expected to take the national side to some big wins in ICC events. But India have failed twice under his leadership. In the 2022 T20 World Cup, India were hammered by eventual winners England by ten wickets and now lost to Australia in the WTC finale.

India's ICC title drought continues since 2013 when they won the ICC Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni. Thus, a lot of questions are now being raised about Rohit's captaincy. He has a herculean task ahead as Hitman not only needs to win the next ICC tournament, i.e. the 2023 ODI World Cup at home later this year&nbsp;but find an able successor for a smooth transition. While many are calling for his removal as captain, especially in whites, former Australian skipper Michael Clarke has backed him.

<h2>'I think he is a very good captain. I like his aggressive approach'</h2>

Speaking to&nbsp;RevSportz&nbsp;after India's&nbsp;WTC final loss,&nbsp;Clarke stated, "I would be keeping the faith with Rohit. I think he is a very good captain. I like his aggressive approach, he looks to be as positive as he can be. He has had a lot of success as a leader. Look at his IPL record for Mumbai (Indians). Just because India didn’t win the Test World Championship doesn’t mean Rohit is not the right guy to lead India. The fact that India qualified again, they are the only team to make consecutive finals, says a lot about how they have played their Test cricket over the past four years. It is also a very important time for stability with the One-Day World Cup right around the corner."

Clarke added, "He has done well as a batter as well. Think of his hundred in the last series. Losing a one-off final doesn't make him a bad captain and nor does it make India a bad team. To make consecutive finals isn't easy. What it means is that India was the only team to play consistently well over a period of four years. To do so in Test cricket is commendable and I would urge you to look at that as well before making any kind of judgment call."

Team India have a lot on their plate going forward. They need to start the 2023-25 WTC cycle on a positive note, start looking at the future, groom young leaders and aim to end their ICC title drought later this year with the ODI WC to be held at home. Will Rohit deliver as captain? Only time will tell...

'Just because they didn’t win WTC final...': Former Aussie skipper backs Rohit Sharma to remain India captain

Dilip Vengsarkar, India's 1983 World Cup-winning member and former BCCI chief selector, has slammed the board and its selection committee for lack of vision and cricketing sense. Vengsarkar believes India have failed to identify and groom a young skipper who can take over from Rohit Sharma. The former Indian batter has lashed out at the BCCI and past selectors for making Shikhar Dhawan the stand-in captain when tours overlapped for Team India in the past two years.

In 2021-22, there have been plenty of instances when Dhawan led the Men in Blue in white-ball formats with many senior players rested or involved in red-ball assignments. Thus, Vengsarkar has slammed BCCI and the selection committee for not backing a youngster to lead the charge. In addition, he raised questions about India's bench&nbsp;strength.

<h2>'They made Shikhar Dhawan India captain'</h2>

Vengsarkar told Hindustan Times, "The unfortunate part is that the selectors I have seen over the last six-seven years neither have the vision, deep knowledge about the game or cricketing sense. They made Shikhar Dhawan India captain (when tours overlapped and the core players were&nbsp;not available); it is where you can groom the future captain."

He added, "You talk about the richest cricket board in the world, where is the bench strength? Just having IPL, earning crores of rupees in media rights, it should not be the only achievement."&nbsp;

Vengsarkar is among the many former Indian players who are not happy with the current operations in Indian cricket. Rohit-led India were recently seen in action in the WTC final where they lost to Australia by 209 runs as their ICC title drought continues since 2013. Virat Kohli charges around $1 million per Instagram post, net worth approximately $126mn: Report

Team India failed to win a World Test Championship (WTC) title for the second time earlier this month. Rohit Sharma’s men had to face a crushing 209-run defeat at the hands of Australia. Chasing a mammoth total of 444, Team India were bowled out for a lowly 234. India’s shambolic performance, quite understandably, baffled many experts and former cricketers. Legendary West Indies fast bowler Andy Roberts has now shared his views on India’s WTC final defeat. Talking about the summit clash, Roberts claimed that India underestimated other teams.

<h2>What Andy Roberts said</h2>

“There is this arrogance which has crept into Indian cricket and through this, India have underestimated the rest of the world. India must decide what their focus is—Test cricket or limited overs cricket. T20 cricket will run its course. There is no contest between bat and ball there," Roberts was quoted as saying to Mid-Day.

"I expected India to show their batting strength. I saw no bright spot in the final although Ajinkya Rahane fought hard; got hit on his hand,” Andy Roberts added.

<h2>WTC Final</h2>

Australia batter Travis Head played a fine knock of 163 to guide his side to a solid total of 469. Ajinkya Rahane, who made a comeback in the team, played a gritty knock of 89 in the first innings. The 35-year-old emerged as India’s highest scorer in the game. But India’s top order could not live up to expectations. As a result Rohit Sharma’s men were bowled out for 296 in the first innings. Rahane displayed another courageous show in the second innings after pulling off a praiseworthy knock of 46.&nbsp;

Australia spinner Nathan Lyon picked up four wickets in the second innings to earn an emphatic win for his side.

India will now be aiming to kick off the new WTC cycle with renewed vigour when they take the field against West Indies. India will be involved in a two-match Test series against their Caribbean opponents. The first match of the series is scheduled to start from July 17. Following the conclusion of the Tests, the two sides will take part in white-ball cricket.

India vs Australia, WTC 2023 Final: Team India's road to the summit clash

MS Dhoni won his ninth T20 title as captain when the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2023 final in Ahmedabad in the early hours on Tuesday (May 30). After the win, Dhoni joined Rohit with as many as five IPL titles each as captain. Following IPL 2023 edition, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt compared Dhoni and Rohit and made a big statement on the current Indian captain's fitness.

<h2>'World of difference between MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma'</h2>

During a YouTube live session, a fan asked Butt to compare Dhoni and Rohit in terms of fitness and he said, “There's a world of difference between the two. Rohit Sharma has a big designation, he's the captain of India. He should be leading by example in all aspects, and fitness is a very important aspect. As a captain, when you are in a position to demand something from your teammates, you should have it yourself. You should be top of the line."

“When you look at Rohit Sharma, you realise that fitness is one aspect where he can be a lot better. It will improve his batting and confidence as well. But we are talking about it for a long time now. I don't know why he isn't fit enough. Maybe he knows the reason himself,” he further added.

While ardent cricket fans often compare the captaincy styles of Dhoni and Rohit, the former was always ahead of many in terms of fitness. Even at 41, the former Indian skipper pulled off the entire IPL 2023 edition despite nursing a knee injury. He blasted 104 runs in 57 balls, at over 180, and remained an asset behind the stumps. During his playing days for India, he was one of the fastest between wickets and remained so even after retirement but injury concerns forced him to go for the big shots and not rely on a lot of running while batting for CSK in the just-concluded edition.

Talking about Rohit, he has suffered various injuries in the recent past. However, he remains a safe fielder and runner between wickets. At present, he is gearing up to lead India in the forthcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final where the national side will face Australia at The Oval, London on June 07.

World of difference between Dhoni and Rohit: Former Pak captain makes big statement on Indian captain

Team India batter KL Rahul lauded legendary captain MS Dhoni and decoded his success. In a recent interaction, Rahul spoke at length about Dhoni's greatness and as a captain and revealed the reason behind his staggering success. Under Dhoni, India won all three major ICC titles, attained the No. 1 Test team ranking for the first time whereas he has also led the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to four IPL and two Champions League (CLT20) trophies.

“MS Dhoni was my first captain. I've seen how he has handled the team, the calmness and the things that he does behind the scenes. Building the relationship with each person is something I've learnt from him. You need to build a relationship where these boys will fight for you, and with you,” Rahul told YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, more commonly known as&nbsp;BeerBiceps.

<h2>'Every cricket lover's dream to be in the dressing room and be captained by MS Dhoni'</h2>

The versatile Indian batter Rahul further opined, "I've realised much later, once when he retired and now he's not part of dressing room, I realised the presence of that man and the greatness that was a part of him. It's probably every cricket lover's dream to be in the dressing room and be captained by MS Dhoni. He's very simple in his approach, what you see is what you get. Even on the field, he is very calm. It's not just that he's being that way. He's very balanced in everything that he does."

"He has ways of building a relationship with each person. The bond that he creates... he has his own way. And he will know what's happening with each individual, personally and in his game. He knows everything about everybody, and that's what made him such a great leader."

“He said this to me a lot of times... trust your gut as a captain. That's something he did, as a leader and as a person in general. The first thought that you get, you always question it, but he never questioned it. If he had a gut feeling about a certain thing, he would never try to question it or second-guess it. He did it, whether it went well or didn't go well. That's what helped him in a lot of ways. That's why he was unorthodox in a lot of ways, people didn't understand at the time but he trusted his gut feeling. That's why he got results too,” Rahul added.

At present, Rahul is out of cricketing action after suffering an injury in IPL 2023. His franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are close to attaining a playoff berth whereas Dhoni-led CSK are a spot above Lucknow, in the second position, and also aiming to finish in the top-two to feature in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2023 playoffs.

At 41, Dhoni continues to be a huge source of inspiration for cricketers around the globe due to his unorthodox wicketkeeping, finishing skills, captaincy and overall contribution to Indian cricket. It is widely speculated that Dhoni is playing his last IPL season and will retire after the ongoing edition.

'He trusted his...': KL Rahul decodes legendary captain MS Dhoni's success

KL Rahul's form has been a topic of discussion since the beginning of 2023. The right-hander has not had a great run in the highest level since the T20 World Cup 2022 edition. While he did play a few good knocks in the marquee event, his strike rate was a below-par&nbsp;120.75. He started the 2022 Bangladesh tour with a fifty in the three-match ODI series opener before losing out on form. Since then, he has not made significant contributions and was dropped from India's playing XI during the final two matches of the four-match Test series versus Australia, at home,&nbsp;prior to IPL 2023.

In the IPL, Rahul led the Lucknow Super Giants and returned with&nbsp;274 runs in nine games, at a dismal strike rate of 113.22, before bowing out due to injury concerns. Due to his inconsistent graph and strike rate issues, Rahul has been severely criticised on social media platforms and recently opened up on online trolls.&nbsp;

Speaking on The Ranveer Show, Rahul said, "That's something that sometimes affects me and affects a lot of the other boys as well that when we athletes truly need support, people feel they can or have the power to comment or say what they want. Just see what that person is going through. None of us wants to perform badly. This is our life. This is all we do. Like I said, I don't know anything else apart from cricket."

Spin-to-win mantra for Rohit Sharma-led Team India?

“The Indian team has performed well on slow tracks in the past few years at home. So the team management had requested that whenever the schedule is being prepared the Indian team should face top teams on slow pitches. They wanted to have a home advantage,” a source in the BCCI said.

It is believed, as per the same report, that the BCCI will be announcing the forthcoming ODI&nbsp;World Cup schedule at a grand launch following the conclusion of IPL 2023.

This will be the first time that India will host the 50-over showpiece event entirely on its own. In 2011, India co-hosted the mega event, along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, and won the championship after 28 years. In the following two editions, the Men in Blue bowed out in the semi-finals.

They wanted to have a home advantage,” a source in the BCCI said. It is believed, as per the same report, that the BCCI will be announcing the forthcoming ODI World Cup schedule at a grand launch following the conclusion of IPL 2023. This will be the first time that India will host the 50-over showpiece event entirely on its own. In 2011, India co-hosted the mega event, along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, and won the championship after 28 years. In the following two editions, the Men in Blue bowed out in the semi-finals.

The top wrestlers of the country have been involved in an ongoing protest against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh over allegations of sexual harassment. It has created a lot of eyeballs in the past few days.&nbsp;It is to be noted that as many as seven female wrestlers, including a minor, have complained against Brij Bhushan of sexual harassment.

Thus, the protest has led to reactions from several athletes in the country. However, not many top Indian cricketers have given their response and their silence has not been well received by Vinesh Phogat. The World Championship medalist launched a scathing attack on the Indian cricketers and told the Indian Express, "The entire country worships cricket but not even a single cricketer has spoken up. We aren’t saying that you speak in our favour, but at least put up a neutral message and say there should be justice for whichever party."

She further opined, "It’s not like we don’t have big athletes in our country. There are cricketers… During the Black Lives Matter movement in the US, they showed their support. Don’t we deserve even that much?"

We don’t know what they are afraid of. I understand that they may be concerned that this could affect their sponsorship and brand endorsement deals. Maybe that’s why they are afraid to associate themselves with athletes who are protesting. But it pains me."

Kapil Dev, India's 1983 World Cup-winning captain, was one of the first cricketers to have reacted to the protests and backed the wrestlers, via a story on his Instagram account. On Friday (April 28), the likes of Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan also broke their silence, asking for justice to prevail at the earliest. However, the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar, etc. are yet to respond.

Earlier on Friday, Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Neeraj Chopra also backed the protesting wrestlers and tweeted, "It hurts me to see our athletes on the streets demanding justice. They have worked hard to represent our great nation and make us proud. As a nation, we are responsible for safeguarding the integrity and dignity of every individual, athlete or not. What’s happening should never happen. This is a sensitive issue and must be dealt with in an impartial and transparent manner. Pertaining authorities must take quick action in order to ensure that justice is served.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has decided not to send Indian cricket teams to the 2023 Asian Games. The postponed Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8. With cricket targeting a spot at the Olympics, has the BCCI made a mistake?

BCCI refuses to send Indian teams to Asian Games

The secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jay Shah, hinted the media rights deal for the upcoming cycle (from 2023 to 2027) will be completed by July and will kick off with the ODI series against Australia in September. In the meantime, a short agreement will come in place for the Afghanistan series in June.&nbsp;

"The BCCI Media Rights tender will be on schedule this year (June-July) and will depend on the Afghanistan tour, but more likely, the process will start from the Australia series. The Board will speak to all stakeholders concerned and will come up with an interim decision," BCCI secretary Jay Shah said on Friday, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

As reported earlier, the BCCI had planned to organise a short ODI series against either Sri Lanka or Afghanistan only to give the Indian team more ODI matches in the World Cup year. However, with a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan now being sealed, at least informally, the board, which is out of a formal media partner following the end of a previous contract with Disney Star in March, will have to seek an interim agreement.&nbsp;

Shah hinted the tendering process would take around one and a half months and that Disney Star, Sony-Zee, Viacom and FanCode are among the front contenders. He&nbsp;also added the board is likely to get in touch with an external agency on a smooth and transparent tendering process to ensure revenue optimisation.

BCCI earlier hired KPMG for the sale of the IPL rights, which got sold for an unbelievable cost of Rs 48,390 crore ($ 6.2 billion) last year.

Currently, the Indian players are involved in the Indian Premier League, following which they will take on Australia in the WTC final, scheduled on June 7th at the Oval. After that, India will host Afghanistan and then will travel to West Indies and Ireland for bilateral tours.

The Men in Blue&nbsp;will then participate&nbsp;in the 2023 Asia Cup and then will host Australia for the ODI series before hosting the 2023 World Cup which is likely to begin on October 5th.&nbsp;
