'Smog' cost England in Kolkata - Harry Brook's bizarre excuse for 1st T20I loss

Unagitated by the lingering fitness concerns surrounding <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/mohammed-shami">Mohammed Shami</a>, the Men in Blue team will be eyeing to extend their lead against England in the second game of a five-match series, on Saturday (Jan 25).&nbsp;
India lead the series 1-0 after a thumping seven-wicket victory at the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/eden-gardens">Eden Gardens</a> on Wednesday. The hosts would certainly want to see Shami in action but his inclusion in playing XI, as things stand now, will depend on further evaluation of his fitness.&nbsp;
The 34-year-old pacer was expected to feature in the first game and was actively involved in the nets too, but his comeback was postponed possibly because the management wanted to take a closer look at his availability.&nbsp;
However, India did not miss Shami much in Kolkata where left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, with the new ball, and spinner Varun Chakravarthy, in the middle phase, ran riot against England, producing impressive spells.&nbsp;

From England&rsquo;s perspective, they would require more contributions from experienced spinners Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone to challenge the hosts.&nbsp;
Apart from pacer Jofra Archer, none of the other English bowlers could survive the onslaught of Abhishek Sharma and the mini cameo of Sanju Samson in the first T20I.&nbsp;
<h2>Sanju-Abhishek pair on a roll&nbsp;</h2>
Since coming together in the T20Is last year, Samson and <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/abhishek-sharma">Abhishek</a> have had considerable success, often giving India a flying start.&nbsp;
The desired double-barrel firing has been occasional, but at least one of them has produced the goods rather consistently. In Kolkata, Abhishek hurt England with a brutal knock, striking at over 230.&nbsp;
Samson has three hundreds in the last six innings, and it would not be unrealistic to imagine these two as the first-choice openers once India hit the road to next year&rsquo;s T20 World Cup at home.&nbsp;
They also offer that rare right-hand-left-hand combination at the top. In Chennai, the Indian openers will be hoping to give their side a solid start considering the tricky nature of the Chepauk pitch.&nbsp;
England too will hope for a fiery start from their openers to clinch early momentum, as Phil Salt and Ben Duckett jointly made just four runs off seven balls.&nbsp;
<h2>Time for Surya to shine&nbsp;</h2>
It&rsquo;s not a matter of grave concern yet but skipper <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/suryakumar-yadav">Suryakumar Yadav</a> will be mindful of the fact that he has just two fifties in the previous 11 innings after the T20 World Cup final in 2024.&nbsp;
But the captain will be hoping for a fruitful outing in the second T20I and would not want to miss the party for long.&nbsp;
<h2>Squads:&nbsp;</h2>
India: Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel (vice-captain), Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Shami, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar, Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper).&nbsp;

England have appointed young star player Harry Brook as the new vice-captain of the white-ball side ahead of the India tour which starts on Wednesday (Jan 22). Brook, one of the consistent performers for England in the last couple of years, will act as deputy to regular skipper Jos Buttler starting from Wednesday. The right-hand batter is a consistent feature in the England side in all three formats, and has been tipped to lead the side as a full-time skipper in the future.
<h2 class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Harry Brook appointed new skipper</h2>
In an announcement made on Tuesday (Jan 21), the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced Brook as the vice-captain of the side. He comes with a wealth of experience in the side, having established himself as an all-format player. Brook&rsquo;s rise in the last two years has been remarkable considering he has scored runs both home and away.
In October, he scored a triple hundred against Pakistan in the Multan Test as England rewrote record books on multiple fronts.
In 20 ODIs played in his career so far, Brook has scored 719 runs at an average of 39.94 and a strike rate of 106.83 with one hundred and five fifties. In T20Is, he&rsquo;s played 39 games and scored 707 runs at an average of 30.73 and a strike rate of 146.07 with three fifties. Brook was also a part of England&rsquo;s T20 World Cup 2022 triumph in Australia and represented Lucknow Super Giants in the 2023 Indian Premier League.

Brook, one of the consistent performers for England in the last couple of years, will act as deputy to regular skipper Jos Buttler starting from Wednesday. The right-hand batter is a consistent feature in the England side in all three formats, and has been tipped to lead the side as a full-time skipper in the future. Harry Brook appointed new skipper In an announcement made on Tuesday (Jan 21), the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced Brook as the vice-captain of the side. He comes with a wealth of experience in the side, having established himself as an all-format player. Brook’s rise in the last two years has been remarkable considering he has scored runs both home and away. In T20Is, he’s played 39 games and scored 707 runs at an average of 30.73 and a strike rate of 146.07 with three fifties. Brook was also a part of England’s T20 World Cup 2022 triumph in Australia and represented Lucknow Super Giants in the 2023 Indian Premier League. IND vs ENG: England appoint Harry Brook as new white-ball vice-captain

England head coach Brendon McCullum has all but confirmed skipper Jos Buttler&rsquo;s role in the field as they set their sights on the upcoming T20I series against India. The series starting on Wednesday (Jan 22) will see England kick off the white-ball tour before they play in the Champions Trophy 2025. According to McCullum, Buttler will feature solely as a batter and will not keep wickets. Instead, Phil Salt will act as the wicketkeeper, with Buttler given added incentive to go around the field and build team tactics while in conversation with the bowler.
<h2 class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">McCullum lifts lid on Buttler&rsquo;s role</h2>
"It's really a really positive thing for us, because it gives Jos the opportunity to have the last say with the bowler, and to have that relationship built at that last second, rather than from 22 yards away. We've got great keeping options within the side as well,&rdquo; said McCullum at the pre-match press conference.
England will start their eight-match white-ball tour to India on Wednesday where they will play five T20Is followed by three ODIs. Buttler will have huge duties on his shoulders as England look to add another ICC title to their arsenal. Since 2019, England has won the ODI World Cup and the T20I World Cup and would want to add another feather to his impressive hat.

IND vs ENG T20 World Cup SF, Highlights: India beat England to reach final

India beat England by 68 runs in the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinal at the Province Stadium, Guyana on Thursday (June 27). In a contest which was delayed several times due to rain and wet outfield, Rohit Sharma-led India held their own to post 171-7 and defended the score with ease, dismissing Jos Buttler-led England for a mere 103 in 16.4 overs to proceed to the mega final, where they will face South Africa.

During the semifinal, former England skipper Michael Vaughan -- who remains vocal on various aspects of the game on social media platforms -- shared numerous predictions on X (formerly Twitter). On one of his posts, after the outcome, India's spin-bowling all-rounder R Ashwin gave a hilarious reply which&nbsp;left many in splits.

Seeing England's batting collapse, Vaughan wrote, "India thoroughly deserve to be in the final .. The best team in tournament so far .. Was always going to hard for England on this pitch .. India just so much better on lower slower spinning pitches."

To this, Ashwin had a hilarious answer up his sleeves:

T20 WC: R Ashwin wins the internet with HILARIOUS reply to Michael Vaughan after India eliminate England

India and England are set to lock horns in the second semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2024 edition on Thursday (June 27) at the Province Stadium in Guyana. Both sides will aim to go past each other and face South Africa in the final, on Saturday (June 29) in Barbados, who thrashed Afghanistan in the first semifinal. Rohit Sharma-led India are unbeaten so far in the 20-nation mega event, in West Indies and the USA, and have a stern task ahead to go past the defending champions England, who eliminated them in the last edition.

<h2>What happened when India and England locked horns last in the T20 WC?</h2>

During the 2022 T20 WC, in Australia, India and England met each other in the second semifinal (much like in the current scenario). The two heavyweights met in the picturesque Adelaide Oval, Adelaide where Jos Buttler &amp; Co. gave India a proper thrashing.&nbsp;

England opted to bowl first after getting it right during the coin toss. Rohit-led India had a slow start, losing opener KL Rahul soon. While Rohit struggled, getting out for a 28-ball 27, Virat Kohli's 40-ball 50 and Hardik Pandya's 33-ball 63 propelled India to 168 for 6 in 20 overs. Adil Rashid's 4-0-20-1 and Chris Jordan's 3 for 43 dented India's progress as the Men in Blue settled for a moderate total.&nbsp;

In reply, Buttler and Alex Hales opened the innings for England and kept finding the boundaries from the first over. Buttler and Hales made merry on a good batting pitch and used the dimensions of the ground wisely to hammer every Indian bowler. Only Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel remained economical while all others went for plenty. Buttler ended with a 49-ball 80, including 3 sixes, whereas Hales top-scored with an impressive 47-ball 86* (laced with 4 fours and 7 sixes).

Thus, England eliminated India in the T20 WC semifinal with a 10-wicket win in pursuit of 169. They went on to beat Pakistan in the mega-final&nbsp;in Melbourne.

Ind vs Eng, T20 WC 2024 semifinal: What happened during previous India vs England face-off?

India played a riveting five-match Test series versus Ben Stokes-led England, at home, ahead of the upcoming IPL 2024 edition. While Rohit Sharma-led India were without many key players, such as Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, etc., they rode on youngsters' excellent run to win the series 4-1 despite conceding a 1-0 lead. Ahead of the IPL, Indian captain Rohit Sharma recalled the five Tests and lauded vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah for his overall show, especially hailing his Visakhapatnam Test spell.&nbsp;

In the second Test, held in Vizag, Bumrah's match figures of 9 for 91 ensured India levelled the series. After Yashasvi Jasiwal's 209 took India to 396, when they opted to bat first, the Indian pacer dismissed England for 253 after they were well-placed at 132 for 2 at one stage. He&nbsp;returned with 6 for 45, producing a brilliant display of reverse swing. The 30-year-old's delivery to dismiss Ollie Pope, and even Stokes, were hailed by many. In the final innings, when England were chasing 399, Bumrah once again stood tall with three key scalps to take India past the finish line. He also won the Player-of-the-Match award.&nbsp;

<h2>'On a flat pitch and 35-36 degrees...'</h2>

On Bumrah's spell, Rohit said in an interview with team45ro, "That Bumrah spell at Vizag was unreal. On a flat pitch and 35-36 degrees, it is nearly impossible for a fast bowler to bowl that spell. And then comes Bumrah, who gets the ball to reverse both sides and brings the team into the game. I have never seen any fast bowler in India bowled the way he has bowled and got us those wickets."

Hitman even praised Jaiswal for his double ton setting a good platform for India. He added, "(Yashasvi) Jaiswal’s innings (209) covered half the percentage of the team’s score, while the next best was 30-40. For us to come back into the Test series and perhaps win the next three matches on the trot, someone had to put their hand up to bail the team out in the second match. And for the same, there was Bumrah and Jaiswal."

Shubman Gill's 104 was also crucial for India in setting a target of over 350 in Vizag, which brought them back in the series. Eventually, India went onto win 4-1 with brilliant display from the younger lot -- such as Dhruv Jurel 90 and 39* in Ranchi Test, Sarfaraz Khan ending with three fifties, Devdutt Padikkal (who scored a fine 65 in his first-ever innings), Akash Deep (accounting for 3 scalps on debut), whereas Jaiswal ended with 712 runs in the series. Gill also stood tall in the absence of senior batters and amassed 452 runs.

Rohit and&nbsp;Bumrah will now return to action in IPL 2024, starting on March 22 in Chennai. The duo are part of the Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians (MI) lineup, who open their campaign on March 24 (Sunday) in Ahmedabad.

Jaiswal is someone who likes keeping his head down: Pant lauds Indian opener after heroics against England

Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar is certainly on cloud nine after India's emphatic 4-1 series win over England at home. The five-match Test series saw Rohit Sharma-led India concede a 1-0 lead before turning it around in style, and winning the five-Test series 4-1. What makes the victory more sweeter is that India were without many key players but the young guns, such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, Akash Deep and Devdutt Padikkal, stood tall at various junctures to take India to a memorable series triumph at home. Thus, Gavaskar lauded the Indian squad and even slammed England for their attitude, believing them to be above all.&nbsp;

<h2>England arrived in India with the usual 'we are doing you a favour' attitude: Gavaskar</h2>

In his column for The Sportstar, the former captain Gavaskar wrote, "What a walloping, what great fun to watch a young India team demolish an England team that had arrived in India with the usual 'we are doing you a favour' attitude that brings a smirk on the faces of those Indian officials who go to receive them at various airports."

Gavaskar went on to claim that some of the England players simply cannot digest the fact that their Indian counterparts earn a whopping amount in the IPL; resulting in more on-field sledging and banter. He stated that the Australian cricketers have been 'invariably better' (as they also earn more than the English players) and do not carry the same attitude unlike their arch-rivals.

In this regard, he opined, "The Aussies have been invariably better, looking to adapt themselves to the culture and not look down their noses at us natives. It also helps that the Aussies recognise a golden goose when they see one, and the IPL is certainly a humongous golden goose. Not only do Aussie players, some so memorably described by Kevin Pietersen as second or third-grade cricketers, go for astronomical amounts, but there are also Aussie coaches, physios, trainers, and anybody who is their golf and beer buddy in the IPL coaching staff, making more money than they do at home."

Gavaskar further&nbsp;claimed, "That is also the reason why the England and Indian players get into verbal skirmishes so often when they are playing against each other. Not a lot of England players are picked in the IPL, mainly because they can be withdrawn by their Board anytime for a preparation camp or something, which leaves the franchises in a lurch."

"Some of them can't stomach the fees for which some of the Indian players are bought and compare their achievements at the international level when the IPL auction dynamics can be so volatile and hard to explain or even understand. So you see more lip in the India-England encounters than in any other India match. That's why the pleasure of beating England is always greater," he added.

At present, the likes of Jason Roy and Harry Brook have withdrawn from the upcoming IPL 2024 edition citing personal reasons. Over the years, many England cricketers have pulled out at the last minute, leaving their respective franchises in a spot of bother.&nbsp;

Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar is certainly on cloud nine after India's emphatic 4-1 series win over England at home. The five-match Test series saw Rohit Sharma-led India concede a 1-0 lead before turning it around in style, and winning the five-Test series 4-1.

The five-match Test series saw Rohit Sharma-led India concede a 1-0 lead before turning it around in style, and winning the five-Test series 4-1. What makes the victory more sweeter is that India were without many key players but the young guns, such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, Akash Deep and Devdutt Padikkal, stood tall at various junctures to take India to a memorable series triumph at home. Thus, Gavaskar lauded the Indian squad and even slammed England for their attitude, believing them to be above all. England arrived in India with the usual 'we are doing you a favour' attitude: Gavaskar In his column for The Sportstar, the former captain Gavaskar wrote, "What a walloping, what great fun to watch a young India team demolish an England team that had arrived in India with the usual 'we are doing you a favour' attitude that brings a smirk on the faces of those Indian officials who go to receive them at various airports." Some England players can’t stomach the IPL fees of Indians: Sunil Gavaskar’s verbal volley makes heads turn

Former England captain Geoffrey Boycott has made a big statement, calling Ben Stokes &amp; Co. to look beyond star pacer James Anderson. Anderson recently became the first-ever pacer to claim 700, or more, wickets in Tests during the India series. However, he had an ordinary run in the five-match series versus Rohit Sharma-led hosts, ending with 10 wickets in four games. Boycott believes England 'cannot keep wrapping Anderson in cotton wool and picking him on sentiment forever'.

In his coloumn for The Telegraph, Boycott expressed disappointment in how England used Anderson in the India series and feels they under-bowled him, reducing his impact. He wrote, "Jimmy Anderson deserves all the adulation and plaudits for staying fit to play 187 Test matches and reach 700 wickets but, because of his age, he is used too sparingly. England cannot keep wrapping him in cotton wool and picking him on sentiment forever."

Boycott further opined that Anderson isn't someone who would be very useful Down Under when England tour Australia in 2025/26 for the Ashes. Hence, he feels the team management needs to bring in pacers who can bowl long spells on placid surfaces. Thus, he reckoned, "Josh Tongue played at Lord’s against Australia and took five wickets and has never been seen again. Matt Potts 23 wickets in six Tests but has not played since the Ireland game last summer."

Boycott added, "Jimmy remains a great craftsman and he can give experience at one end while some new boys get bedded in at the other but before the Australia trip it will be time to nicely say, Sayonara Jimmy, thank you for the memories. We have loved watching your skill but it is time to move on."

At present, Anderson has not talked about his retirement plans. Talking about Stokes-led England, they are languishing in the eighth place in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points table with six defeats from 10 games. Thus, they are moving closer to being eliminated from the race to reach the WTC 2023-25 cycle's finale.

Reflecting on his run in the England series, where he ended as the Player-of-the-Series, Jaiswal stated, "I really enjoyed it, the way I have played and the way it's been and we won the series by 4-1. It's been an incredible experience with all my mates and I really enjoyed it. I think when I celebrated my double century in Rajkot, I think that was something which I really enjoyed and felt it. And I was, I was living."

The 22-year-old left-hander also surpassed Virat Kohli's tally of most runs in a single Test series versus England. Following his latest achievement, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah also congratuled Jaiswal and wrote on X, formerly Twitter, "Congratulations to&nbsp;@ybj_19 on being named ICC Men's Player of the Month for February 2024! His outstanding performance of 712 runs against England in the recent Test series with 2 hundreds and three fifties, speaks volumes. Keep shining, Yashasvi!"

Jaiswal will now shift his focus to IPL 2024 where he will represent the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR). The IPL kicks off on March 22 and will be followed by the T20 World Cup 2024 edition, in West Indies and USA.

‘Hope I will be getting more in future’: Yashasvi Jaiswal reacts after winning ICC Player of Month Award

Former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif lavished huge praise on opener Yashasvi Jaiswal after his splendid run in the just-concluded England Tests at home. Jaiswal ended the five-match series, won by Rohit Sharma-led India by 4-1 margin, with 712 runs -- being the highest run-getter -- and also became only the second Indian batter after Sunil Gavaskar to cross the 700-run mark in a Test series. The swashbuckling left-hander slammed two double tons to raise his stature in international cricket. He is already a part of India's T20I setup and Kaif believes the opener can fit well in ODIs too.

<h2>'He is an all-format player, whether you talk about ODIs, T20s or Tests'</h2>

Talking to Star Sports, Kaif said, "The sample size is very small, but we have been seeing Jaiswal for many years. We have seen him in the Ranji Trophy and the IPL. He played splendidly in the IPL, and he is an incredible player."

"He has not yet made his ODI debut. Give him an ODI debut as well. He is an all-format player, whether you talk about ODIs, T20s or Tests. As a batter, he has both defensive and attacking techniques. When he makes up his mind and if it is required, he can go from the first to the sixth or seventh gear. Hitting (James) Anderson for three sixes in three balls in a Test match shows how capable a batter he is," Kaif added.

Jaiswal ended the series at a strike-rate of 79.91, hitting as many as 26 sixes overall (including three successive of England's senior pacer Anderson). Mohammed Kaif lauds 'all-format player' Yashasvi Jaiswal after England Tests, calls for his ODI debut

Shubman Gill (110) and Rohit Sharma (103) headlined India's charge on Day 2 of the fifth and final Test versus England in Dharamsala on Friday (March 8). After the visitors&nbsp;were all-out for 218 on the opening day, India strengthened their position by reaching 473-8 at stumps on Friday --&nbsp;leading by 255 --&nbsp;after a solid foundation provided by Gill and skipper Rohit. As India have a solid chance to end the five Test-match series&nbsp;with a 4-1 scoreline, Gill's father reflected on his son's return to form but stated that he isn't pleased with the right-hander opting to bat at No. 3.

It is to be noted that Gill chose to bat at No. 3 in Tests after Yashasvi Jaiswal came into the picture, since the West Indies tour last year. While the 24-year-old took a lot of time to get going at his new position, he has come to his usual best since the second Test of the ongoing home series versus Ben Stokes &amp; Co.&nbsp;

Gill's father Lakhwinder opined on what led to his son's return to form. Speaking to PTI, he said, "Stepping out has made a big difference, he had stopped doing that and that created pressure. Since his U-16 days, he has been stepping out to the spinners and pacers as well to cut the movement."

"The moment you don't play your natural game you are in trouble. The whole game is about confidence, when you get one good innings you are back to your best. Since his U-16 days, he used to make tons of runs,"&nbsp;Lakhwinder said.

<h2>'It suits&nbsp;Cheteshwar Pujara who has a defensive game'</h2>

Lakhwinder also&nbsp;revealed that he isn't happy with Shubman coming one down. "He should have continued to open. It is not right at all I feel. When you sit in dressing room for longer, the pressure tends&nbsp;to increase. Number 3 is not opening neither it is a middle-order spot."

"Plus his game his not like that, it suits the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara who has a defensive game. When the ball is new you get more loose balls, when you come in after 5-7 overs, the ball is still shiny and the bowler is also settled with his length."&nbsp;

He, however, added, "I don't interfere in his decisions. I just train with him. He is old enough to make his own decsions. I made decisions on his behalf only when he was a teenager."

Meanwhile, Gill opined on his knock and spoke about his father's presence in the stands during the second day's play in Dharamsala. After stumps, he told the broadcasters, "It was my first time that he's (talking about his father) watching me play (in an international game). It was his vision (to play Test cricket) and I'm hoping that he is proud of my effort today."

This became Gill's fourth Test century overall, second while batting at No. 3. He has been in superb form in the England series, in the absence of senior batters, and will be content with his overall effort. For now, Gill has secured the No. 3 spot in whites.

Former England opener-turned-commentator Nick Knight feels Joe Root dropping Rohit Sharma in the first innings of the third Test, in Rajkot, changed the course of the India-England series. Back then, the scoreline was 1-1 and India had lost three early wickets after&nbsp;opting to bat first in Rajkot. Rohit was given a reprieve by Root, at 27, when the former English skipper dropped a catch at slips, off Tom Hartley's bowling, only for the Indian captain to make the most of it and score 131.

Rohit and Ravindra Jadeja (112) stitched a mammoth 204-run fourth-wicket stand, after India were reeling at 33-3, and took India to 445. The home side got a crucial 126-run lead and managed to setup a mammoth 557-run target, winning by a whopping 434-run margin. In the fourth and penultimate Test, both sides had their moments before Rohit &amp; Co. won by five wickets to take an unassailable 3-1 lead.

During the ongoing fifth and final Test in Dharamsala, Knight stated that Root's dropped catch changed the course of the series. While the English cricketer stated that Ben Stokes' underperformance was also a big factor, and Root's catch changed it all.

Knight told Jio Cinemas, "If the captain is feeling under a bit of pressure, he’s been targeted by the opposition, it makes everybody in the dressing room vulnerable. When you look at the two sides, you have Ben Stokes, whose performances individually haven’t been where he wanted them to be."

IND vs ENG: Rohit Sharma equals Sunil Gavaskar’s elite feat with impressive ton on Day 2 of Dharamsala Test

Yashasvi Jaiswal became only the second Indian batter, after Little Master Sunil Gavaskar, to score 700-plus runs in a Test series during Day 1 of the Dharamsala Test against England, on Thursday (March 7). Jaiswal has been in superb form in the ongoing five Tests, at home, with two double tons and had 655 runs under his belt heading into the fifth and final game in Dharamsala. He scored a blistering 57 on the opening day to take his run-tally past the 700-run mark in the series. In addition, Jaiswal became the fastest Indian to reach 1,000 runs in Tests&nbsp;in&nbsp;just 16 innings.

In Indian cricket history, only Gavaskar has surpassed the 700-run mark (twice) in a Test series. Thus, Jaiswal continued to take giant strides in his brief red-ball&nbsp;career. Following Day 1 of the Dharamsala Test, former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan lavished huge praise on the left-hander, saying 'he is not abusing his form'.

<h2>'He's raised everyone's expectations which he will have to live up to'</h2>

Speaking to Sports18, Zaheer said, "The hunger to score runs is something which is very evident, for a player to have this kind of approach so early in his test career is something which gets everyone excited right now when you're looking at him and the way he's approaching the game."

He further opined, "That potential is going to be immense. He's raised everyone's expectations which he will have to live up to, and that's gonna add more pressure. But there are a lot of good signs when you're looking at him the way he's approaching the game, he's not abusing his form."

Zak reckoned that&nbsp;Jaiswal is showing the right signs of consistency, adding that the 22-year-old&nbsp;has got an opportunity to build&nbsp;a reputation as someone who scores big runs on a consistent basis.&nbsp;

He added, "He just wanted to consolidate his form, not take the form for granted is something which is very important. So he's showing all those right kind of signs for these kinds of performances to come more consistently in future. These kinds of series as an individual, you don't have many in your career. Former England captain-turned-commentator Nasser Hussain has slammed Ben Stokes &amp; Co. for conceding an unassailable 3-1 lead to hosts India in the ongoing five-match Test series.&nbsp;England, under Stokes, have been competitive against Rohit Sharma &amp; Co., however, they missed their chances of winning big moments, with many former cricketers and experts blaming their Bazball approach.

England won the first Test, in Hyderabad, but lost the following three games despite having a chance to win them all.&nbsp;In the current ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle, they have inspired many with their entertaining approach, known as Bazball, but have not won a lot. Stokes-led side have emerged on top only thrice and have lost five games. Thus, they are&nbsp;languishing at the eighth spot in the WTC standings, with a win percentage of&nbsp;19.44, and are below&nbsp;the likes of Pakistan, West Indies and South Africa.

In the end, all sports teams are judged on their statistics. How they end up at the end of a season or a series. In cricket, how many runs you scored, the wickets you took."

He further opined, "This England side have provided great viewing over the past two years (since the Bazball era), too, but the win-loss ratio is the most important thing in my eyes, so they must get the scoreline versus India back to 3-2 in Dharamshala this week."
