Former England cricket team captain Kevin Pietersen has come out in support of Cristiano Ronaldo amid massive criticism of the Manchester United superstar following his sensational interview targeting the club. Things have gone haywire between Ronaldo and his club after the ugly fallout between them.

One of the legends of the club, Ronaldo has had a disastrous start to the ongoing season and has struggled to start games under manager Erik Ten Hag. Ronaldo has been used majorly as a substitute in the Premier League so far this season with goals drying up for the 37-year-old, who has clearly been far from his best.

Ronaldo has also had several off-field issues at United this season and expressed his frustrations in his latest interview with controversial English journalist Piers Morgan. While he openly claimed he had no respect for manager Ten Hag, Ronaldo also accused the club of 'betraying him'.

The Portuguese icon, who is regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, also took a dig at United owners the Glazers, and criticised them for the poor infrastructure and training facilities at the club, claiming they were all the same from when he had left the club for the first time in 2009.

Ronaldo has been widely criticised by several former players and fans for his explosive remarks against the club and the manager. However, Pietersen has 'symphatised' with Ronaldo and compared his situation to his own during his cricketing career.

Pietersen, who was involved in several controversies during his time with the England cricket team, has said it is possible for players to reach their 'breaking point' after facing constant lies and speculations.

"I’ve watched this CR story and having been in a similar position, I sympathise with him. People have NO IDEA what it’s like to have constant lies and speculation written about them all the time. People having breaking points. Very easy to blame him but before you do, think," Pietersen wrote in a tweet.

Ronaldo has been at the centre of criticism at United this season over his poor behaviour. The 37-year-old had refused to come on as a substitute and left the stadium before the full time whistle while expressing his anger during United's Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspurs earlier this season.

However, despite his actions, he was only suspended for a few days and was reinstated into the squad by Ten Hag, who also made him the club captain only for Ronaldo to come out and bash him in his latest interview. Following his explosive comments in the interview, Ronaldo is unlikely to play for United again and the club are expected to part ways with the Portuguese in the January transfer window.

A fleet of luxurious yachts bobbing in the harbour are among the five-star options as Dubai pulls out all the stops for well-heeled football fans who want to watch the World Cup in style. Those without tickets but with thousands of dollars to spare can view games on a big screen from the top deck of a $20,000-a-night yacht, against a backdrop of the Gulf financial hub's skyline.

With more than a hint of Dubai's trademark bling, the three-storey, 140-foot (43 metres) vessel has a big screen, jacuzzi, bar and a swanky lounge with L-shaped couches and a glittering crystal leopard statue.

The United Arab Emirates city, an hour's flight from World Cup host Qatar, is among the Gulf destinations expecting to cash in on a spillover of fans seeking more accommodation options and easier access to alcohol.

"This one is for $20,000 for an overnight charter," Xclusive Yachts marketing manager Jainney Thakker told AFP, pointing out the boat's features.

"We have a chef on board who offers gourmet cuisine from all over the world," Thakker added, as well as "free-flowing champagne".

The boat, which can accommodate up to 125 people, is among a number of pristine white yachts at Dubai's Marina Harbour, docked and ready for the influx of fans once the tournament kicks off on Sunday.

In one of its rooms, a large dining table flanked by upholstered chairs and bouquets of white roses is set with glass plates and silver cutlery.

An outdoor jacuzzi offers uninterrupted view from the stern. And for anyone who wants to sail to Qatar during the World Cup, the same company offers a separate package for a cool $100,000 for a roughly six-day trip. Thakker said her company has received more than 15 nightly bookings so far, mostly for groups of two to three people.

"The people who are booking with us are definitely the real VIPs... you know owners of super-cars, some of the really creme (de la creme) crowd," she said.

On shore, Dubai is gearing up with fan zones at parks, beaches and in the financial centre, while hotels are offering special packages.

Entrance to one fan zone in Dubai Harbour, with 330-square-metre screens, is $21 for a standing space. But a lounge table for eight people costs more than $920, while a premium suite for 15 is selling for $3,676, including unlimited booze.

The high-end offerings reinforce Dubai's well-cultivated reputation as a luxury destination, an image burnished by a series of reality TV shows including Netflix's "Dubai Bling", an international hit.

The show, following a cast described as millionaires, has topped the platform's viewing lists across the Middle East, although some object to the depiction of a city that is also home to swathes of low-skilled migrant workers.

To coax World Cup fans, the UAE is offering multiple-entry visas at the nominal fee of 100 dirhams ($27) to visiting supporters. Budget airline flydubai will run at least 30 return flights a day to Doha, part of a daily airlift of 160 shuttle services from Gulf cities laid on for the World Cup.

One Dubai hotel, on the man-made, frond-shaped Palm island, will be given over entirely to football fans. But it's not all champagne football for fans in Dubai. As a global inflation crisis sends prices soaring, many residents say they will forego World Cup festivities to save on costs.

Luxury yachts offer lavish stay to 'real VIPs' as Dubai readies for FIFA World Cup 2022

Diego Maradona's 'Hand of God' goal will forever remain one of the most iconic moments in the history of the football World Cup. The Argentine legend's controversial goal against England in the 1986 World Cup played a crucial role in deciding his country's fate in the tournament and remains forever etched in the memories of football fans around the world.

Maradona, one of the most talented players to have graced the pitch, was the best in the world at the time and had single-handedly carried Argentina to the quarterfinals against England in the World Cup. England were the better side on paper but despite being an average team, Argentina were a force to reckon with Maradona in the side.

The little genius was at the peak of his prowess but England came up with a simple strategy to lock him down on the pitch and keep him away from the ball in dangerous positions. Their defenders were on the money in the first half but Maradona came into his own in the second half and looked desperate to find the back of the net.

It was Maradona, who started the attack from the centre of the pitch and dribbled past a host of England players before passing the ball to one of his teammates. The pass was intercepted by Steve Hodge, who tried to kick the ball high for the England goalkeeper to grab it. However, Maradona rose for the ball and won the battle with the goalkeeper to push the ball into the back of the net.

While it appeared Maradona had scored a header, replays later showed the ball was pushed past the goalkeeper with his clenched fist. However, with no means to review the controversial goal at the time, it stood and gave Argentina a much-needed 1-0 lead in the quarterfinal.

The controversial goal which was not even legally scored, went on to become part of the football folklore after Maradona famously quipped after the game - "Un poco con la cabeza de Maradona y otro poco con la mano de Dios", which roughly translates to - "A little with the head of Maradona and little with the hand of God," in English.

The goal proved to be a vital one for Argentina as it lifted their spirits in the quarters and saw Maradona follow it up with the Goal of the Century to inspire his team to a 2-1 win. Argentina went on to win the final and lift their second World Cup title.

The referee who officiated the match explains why he allowed the goal to stand

Such is the legacy of Maradona that 36 years since the controversial goal, it is still one of the most iconic and talked-about moments in World Cup history. The match ball from that game is expected to be sold for a whopping $3.3 million at an auction on Wednesday.

The match ball is a priceless possession for former referee Ali Bin Nasser of Tunisia, who officiated the quarterfinal between Argentina and England and allowed Maradona's first goal in the game to stand. He was allowed to keep the ball as FIFA declared that referees will get to keep the match ball after each game at the 1986 World Cup.

Being the referee, Nasser's verdict was bound to be the final one as back then there was no VAR (Video Assistant Referee) to do a goal check. However, Nasser revealed his vision was blocked and from what he saw, it looked like Maradona had headed the ball into the back of the net.

However, he resorted to the guidelines issued by FIFA at the time and looked up to the linesman for the final signal. Bulgarian Bogdan Dochev, the linesman had a better view of the goal and saw nothing wrong which prompted Nasser to allow it to stand and let Argentina have their 1-0 lead.

"It is a gift from God. Because I had a career of 25 years … and I made all the decisions that needed to be made," Nasser told CNN Sport at the auction of the iconic ball.

"(Dochev) arrived at the centre line, which means the goal is 100% valid," he said when asked why the goal was allowed to stand while reasserting that he followed the guidelines issued by FIFA to come to the decision.

Nasser, who is 78 now, had pledged to donate a significant amount from the auction proceedings to a charity while he intends to use the rest to live a better life.

Former referee Ali Bin Nasser explains why he let Diego Maradona's 'Hand of God' goal stand

Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo's latest explosive interview with controversial English journalist Piers Morgan has whipped a storm in the football world. Ronaldo has targeted United manager Erik Ten Hag and the club's top brass in his bare-it-all interview leading to an ugly fallout.

Ronaldo, who has had a difficult start to the season, has failed to score consistently and has not been used as the first-choice striker by Ten Hag amid his waning prowess. He has also been involved in controversies off the field and has been questioned for his behaviour.

In his interview, Ronaldo openly claimed he had no respect for Ten Hag as the manager didn't give him respect in return and bashed United's hierarchy for the woeful standards at the club. He also stated that United are far from achieving success on the pitch as there are issues at the internal level in the club.

He has been criticised by many over the last few days ever since the clips of his interview with Morgan were released on social media. Former Real Madrid and Italy forward Cassano has become the latest to slam the 37-year-old Portuguese forward labelling him 'selfish' for his behaviour.

"Now I say that Ronaldo does not have the courage to admit that for three years he is no longer himself. This year he had to go to Sporting Lisbon and then quit after the World Cup. He’s a problem for the coaches, he puts his teammates in trouble. He didn’t even call [Karim] Benzema to congratulate him [on winning the Ballon d'Or]," Cassano said on Bobo TV.

"He has a blindfold in front of his eyes and thinks he can play until he’s 50. Dear Ronaldo, I tell you one thing: finish big with the World Cup. Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo's latest explosive interview with controversial English journalist Piers Morgan has whipped a storm in the football world.

He can’t keep throwing tantrums and he can’t think he can still play at a high level. He has such a disproportionate ego, but he is not like [Lionel] Messi who can also play sitting down. He can’t physically cope anymore. A World Cup-related auction will take place in London on Wednesday (November 16) where items on sale include the ball Diego Maradona scored his 'Hand of God' goal with against England in the 1986 tournament. The football that was at the feet - and hand - of Maradona as he shocked the world with acts of both brazen gamesmanship and breathtaking skill in Mexico 36 years ago has been put up for auction and is expected to sell for at least 2.5 million pounds ($2.8 million).

The ball in question is from the 1986 World Cup quarter-final between Argentina and England, in which Maradona scored six minutes into the second half by sneakily punching the ball over England goalkeeper Peter Shilton into the net, a goal he said afterward had been helped by the "Hand of God".

Just four minutes later he dribbled from his own half past a number of England players to score a sublime second that regularly tops polls as the greatest goal in World Cup history. The ball is being sold by Tunisian referee Ali Bin Nasser, who officiated the match. The auction will be conducted by auctioneers Graham Budd.

''It's a really historic ball from one of the most famous World Cup matches in history and we're expecting it to fetch between 2.5 and 3 million pounds,'' Budd said. Speaking about the match, former England soccer player Terry Butcher, who played in the game said, ''To lose under the circumstances we lost was very depressing and leaves a bitter taste in the mouth and still does.'

''There will never be another ball like it in football. It's probably the most famous football in football history,'' Butcher said. The shirt worn by Maradona in the same match was sold for 7.14 million pounds earlier this year. Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand said he can't defend Cristiano Ronaldo anymore after the Portuguese forward targeted the club and manager Erik Ten Hag in an explosive interview with controversial English journalist Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo made some sensational claims on the show and went on to state that he has no respect for United boss Ten Hag because the Dutch manager made him feel disrespected since taking charge at the club earlier this summer. Ronaldo also bashed United's hierarchy by alleging a few top executives and the manager tried to force him out.

He said he felt 'betrayed' by the club and also aimed a dig at former manager Raf Rangnick, who was let go of by United before the start of the current season.

Ronaldo's explosive comments have not gone down well with several United fans across the globe and former players, who believe the 37-year-old could have chosen a better way to let his frustrations known after his woeful start to the season.

However, Ferdinand, who is Ronaldo's great friend and has been a huge admirer of his former teammate, has now said his explosive interview against the club is not defendable. The former United defender feels the relationship between Ronaldo and the club is over and that there is no going back.

Manchester United shares official statement after explosive interview by Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has been in the news ever since the ongoing Premier League edition kicked off in August. Talks regarding Ronaldo's future at Manchester United were doing the rounds at regular intervals after many reports cited that the superstar striker isn't happy at the Old Trafford club. While he didn't find any takers in the summer transfer window, the Portuguese captain continued at the club where he has struggled to find a place in the starting XI.

A lot has also been written about Ronaldo's relationship with manager Erik Ten Hag. Nonetheless, it has become a major talking point once again following the footballer's recent bare it all interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan. Although only a teaser of the interview is out, Ronaldo's remarks on Erik and how the club have 'betrayed' him have gone viral in no time.

"I don't have respect for him [Ten Hag] because he doesn't show respect for me. If you don't have respect for me, I'm never gonna have respect for you," said Ronaldo on the Piers Morgan uncensored show. "Not only the manager, but the other two or three guys who are around the club [at the senior executive level]. I felt betrayed. I don't care, people should listen to the truth. Yes, I felt betrayed. I feel that some people didn't want me here, not only this year but last season too," the superstar further asserted.

Is Cristiano Ronaldo in big trouble?

As per a report in the Metro, Man United is looking to give Ronaldo a £1m (close to INR 9 crore) fine following his explosive interview with Morgan. The 20-time English champions are yet to come out with an official statement but the reports further suggest that his words will be viewed closely by those inside the club before a response is shared.

If the reports turn out to be true, this will be the second disciplinary action against Ronaldo. Earlier, he was left out of the Man United squad for the club's away face-off versus Chelsea following his refusal to come out as a substitute during Red Devils' 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur. He had even left the stadium before the match concluded, drawing severe criticism.

At present, Man United is in the fifth position in the EPL standings, with eight wins from 14 encounters. On Sunday (November 13), the Red Devils defeated Fulham 2-1 courtesy of goals from Christian Eriksen and Alejandro Garnacho.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) continue to make moves in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) trading window as they have now reportedly roped in Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur from Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the IPL 2023 mini-auction. KKR had earlier traded New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson and Rahmanullah Gurbaz from Gujarat Titans.

As per a report in ESPNCricinfo, Kolkata Knight Riders have traded Shardul from Delhi Capitals in an all-cash deal. Shardul was the most expensive fast bowler in the Delhi Capitals squad after being bought for a huge sum of Rs 10.75 crore (INR 107.5 million) at the mega auction last year.

The Capitals spent big money on acquiring his services but the pace all-rounder failed to impress with his performances in IPL 2022. Shardul picked up 15 wickets in 14 matches but conceded at an economy of 9.79. He also failed to contribute much with the bat.

Cristiano Ronaldo has slammed Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag in a sensational interview after his disastrous start to the season. Ronaldo has struggled to get starts regularly and has also been far from his best when it comes to his performances.

The Portuguese international has also had troubles off the field and has already been reprimanded by Ten Hag over his behaviour. Ronaldo was dropped from United's first-team squad recently after he left the stadium before the full-time whistle during their game against Tottenham Hotspurs.

Ronaldo has now opened up on why he is unhappy at United and revealed that many at the club wanted to force him out ahead of the start of the ongoing season. Ronaldo reportedly wanted to leave United earlier this summer but failed to get a move as no top club expressed interest in securing the 37-year-old's services.

"I think the fans should know the truth. I want the best for the club. This is why I come to Manchester United," Ronaldo said.

Indian multi-billionaire Mukesh Ambani has reportedly entered the race to buy Premier League club Liverpool. Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the current owners of the club, had recently confirmed they are open to bringing in fresh investment or a complete sale if their terms and conditions are met.

As per a report in UK's The Mirror, Ambani has already enquired about a possible takeover of Liverpool and is interested in buying the club. The FSG Group have put a huge price tag for all potential buyers and are willing to sell the club for 4 billion British pounds.

Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries, is the eighth richest person in the world at present with a net worth of more than 92 billion USD, as per Forbes. His company has significant investments in Indian sports as Reliance owns the Mumbai Indians franchise in the Indian Premier League and also runs India's top-flight football league - the Indian Super League (ISL).

Mumbai Indians have often been deemed as one of the best-run franchises in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). They have been lauded by many for scouting some of the best talents over the years and nurturing them into superstars.

The proper management of the club has reaped rewards on the pitch as Mumbai Indians are the most successful franchise in IPL history with as many as five titles to their name. Reliance now also owns the MI Capetown franchise in South Africa's newly-launched T20 league.

Mukesh Ambani enters race to buy Premier League giants Liverpool - Report

Brentford striker Ivan Toney struck twice to give his side a shock 2-1 victory at champions Manchester City on Saturday in their final Premier League game before the World Cup break.

Toney, left out of England's squad for Qatar, made the most of a bright start by Brentford, breaking the deadlock in the 16th minute when Ben Mee headed back across the box and Toney sent a looping header over Ederson and into the net.

City had a strong shout for a penalty turned down for a handball before they equalised on the stroke of halftime when Kevin De Bruyne's corner was flicked on and Phil Foden drilled home a superb half-volley for his eighth league goal of the season.

There was a lengthy stoppage just after the break when Aymeric Laporte, who has been named in Spain's World Cup squad, received treatment after an inadvertent elbow from Ethan Pinnock opened a gash on his forehead.

Foden went close to adding a second in the 71st minute, twisting and sending another half-volley fizzing goalwards, but this time it flew over the bar.

City racked up 29 goalscoring opportunities but only managed six on target as Brentford's defence suffocated their attack and restricted striker Erling Haaland - the only City starter not headed to Qatar - to a couple of half-chances.

That set the stage for Toney's winner as Brentford broke forward deep into second-half stoppage time, and the 26-year-old made no mistake as he fired home to secure a stunning victory.

"Obviously (being left out of the England squad was), a disappointment but I know I'm capable of and I won't let it put me down, I'll just keep going and keep doing well for Brentford," Toney told BT Sport.

"The motivation is the boys in the dressing room, and the fans as you can see. When we work hard, this is what we can do."

City stayed second in the table on 32 points, two behind leaders Arsenal who play Wolverhampton Wanderers later on Saturday. Brentford are 10th on 19 points.

""The best team won, we struggled from the beginning and we couldn't deal with their long balls. Usually you press the ball to win it, but this was different. They defended so deep and so well," City coach Pep Guardiola told the BBC.

"We have done exceptional in the Champions League and well in the Premier League. We'll come back and prepare for the second half of the season now," he added.

Son Heung-min has been included in South Korea's 26-man squad for the World Cup finals in Qatar despite suffering a fractured eye socket playing for Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League earlier this month.

Head coach Paulo Bento included Son in his squad after the 30-year-old declared himself fit to feature for the Koreans, who will be making their 10th consecutive appearance at the World Cup finals.

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has slammed his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo suggesting he get his head down and work. Ronaldo has had a woeful start to the season at United and has struggled to start games consistently. He has also endured poor goal-scoring form and has been far from his best so far this season.

Ronaldo has also had issues off the field at United amid his poor patch. He was recently left out of the first-team squad after he left the stadium before the full-time whistle during United's clash against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. He was also reprimanded by manager Erik Ten Hag before returning to the first team.

Rooney bashed Ronaldo for his behaviour and said the Portuguese should be ready to play whenever his manager needs. The former Manchester United captain called him one of the greatest players of all time but said his behaviour at United of late has been unacceptable.

"For Cristiano, just get your head down and work and be ready to play when the manager needs you. If he does that, he will be an asset. If he doesn't, it will become an unwanted distraction," Ronney said on talkSport.

"Him and Messi are arguably the two best players of all time and you can go either way with that, whatever way you decide. But I just think the things he has done from the start of the season, is not acceptable for Manchester United," he added.

Rooney also criticised United legend Roy Keane for defending Ronaldo despite his poor behaviour at United. The former United skipper said the club is currently in a rebuilding phase and they do not need distractions from senior players like Ronaldo.

Ronaldo might be seen in action next when United take on Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday. The club will be looking to continue their winning run after beating Aston Villa 4-2 in the League Cup on Friday.

A rousing second-half display from Manchester United earned the hosts a thrilling 4-2 victory over Aston Villa in the EFL Cup third round on Thursday. After an uneventful first half, the game sprang to life just after the break as Ollie Watkins clipped Villa into the lead, before the hosts went straight down the other end to level through Anthony Martial.

The chances kept coming and Villa retook the lead after Diogo Dalot inadvertently diverted the ball into his own net, only for United to quickly equalise again, Marcus Rashford applying the finish. The game opened up as it approached the latter stages and Bruno Fernandes, played in by substitute Alejandro Garnacho, put United ahead with a shot, off the back of Villa defender Tyrone Mings, 12 minutes from time.

Scott McTominay added a late fourth for United to put the seal on an exhilarating win over Villa who beat them 3-1 in the Premier League on Sunday. "It was a game of two halves," Rashford told Sky Sports. "First half it was not great in possession so it was similar to the other day. In the second half we played with a lot more confidence. "My aim is to enjoy my football and at the moment I am. If I am scoring goals and winning, then I am happy. "I try to end up in a place for the goal. I would say I am more comfortable on the wing, back to goal I need to improve a lot on that."

United fell at the third-round stage last year at home to West Ham United and having put in a such a below-par showing in the first half at Old Trafford, the writing appeared to be on the wall again after Watkins's goal. Just as was the case the weekend, the United backline was too easily carved open by a Jacob Ramsey pass, and Watkins did the rest with a fine finish.

Martial, starting only his second game of an injury-ravaged campaign, tapped home Fernandes's perfect pass moment later, his fifth goal of the season, before Dalot's unfortunate intervention. From there on, however, it was all United, with Rashford celebrating his England World Cup call-up by flashing a strike wide before showing great determination to net his eighth goal of the season. Fernandes completed the comeback and McTominay's goal on the stretch, moments after he had thundered a strike against the crossbar, was thoroughly deserved as United progressed in style.

Ahead of the start of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, FIFPRO is giving global soccer players the chance to ‘shine a light’ on issues that are important to them. On Wednesday (November 9), the players organization, also known as the International Federation of Professional Footballers, released three heartfelt videos tackling online racial abuse, mental health and suicide prevention, and the promotion of LGBTQ rights. Australia midfielder Jackson Irvine, who plays for FC St. Pauli in the Bundesliga, offered up his insights in how he thinks soccer culture needs to be more inclusive towards LGBTQI+ players and fans.

The release of the video comes less than two weeks before the World Cup kicks off in Qatar where homosexuality is illegal. Gay advocates and some soccer stars have raised concerns over the rights of fans traveling for the event, especially LGBT+ individuals and women, whom rights groups say Qatari laws discriminate against. Organizers of the World Cup, which starts on November 20 and is the first held in a Middle Eastern nation, say that everyone, no matter their sexual orientation or background, is welcome, while also warning against public displays of affection.

Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter has admitted it was a 'mistake' to award the 2022 World Cup hosting rights to Qatar. Blatter was the FIFA president back in 2010 when Qatar managed to win the hosting right for the tournament despite USA being favourites to stage the showpiece event this year.

Qatar has been at the center of criticism from all corners for its infamous history of human rights violations. The country has been accused of mistreating and forcing migrant labours to work in inhumane conditions during the construction of stadiums for the 2022 FIFA World Cup which is set to get underway from November 20 this year.

Blatter, who was the eighth president of the world football's governing body FIFA, remained in charge for 17 years from 1998 to 2015. It was during his stint at the top that Qatar won the hosting rights. The former FIFA president has now admitted it was a 'bad choice' and said that World Cup is too big an event for a small country like Qatar.

"It is too small of a country. Football and the World Cup are too big for it," Blatter told Swiss newspaper Tages Anzeiger, as per Reuters.

"It was a bad choice. And I was responsible for that as president at the time," he added.

Qatar has faced criticism from several current and former players and coaches over human rights violations in the country. Recently pub owners in Germany, which houses one of the biggest football fan bases in the world, announced that they will boycott the upcoming World Cup.

Blatter said FIFA amended the criteria for the selection of World Cup hosts in 2012 after serious accusations of human rights violations agaist Qatar. FIFA also took into account the accusations against Qatar over the poor working conditions for labours at tournaent-related working sites.

"Since then, social considerations and human rights are taken into account," said Blatter, who was accused of corruption and bribery during his tenure as FIFA president.

Blatter and former UEFA president Michel Platini were both cleared of corruption charges by a Swiss court earlier this year. However, Blatter remains banned from taking part any FIFA-related activities until 2007.

Europa League complete draw: Manchester United to take on FC Barcelona in playoffs for a spot in last 16

English Premier League club Liverpool has reportedly been put up for sale by its owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG). FSG has played a key role in Liverpool's recent success but the owners have been widely criticised by fans for their lack of proper investment in the club.

FSG had taken over Liverpool from their former American owners George Gillett Jr and Tom Hicks in 2010 after massive outrage among fans over the club's long-standing trophy drought. Liverpool managed to break the curse under FSG as Jurgen Klopp led the club to its first Premier League title in 2019-20.

As per a report in The Athletic, FSG have put together a full-fledged presentation for the parties interested in exploring a deal for the Premier League club. The Liverpool owners have also roped in Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley to ensure the entire sale is processed without any major hiccups.

In a statement published by The Athletic, FSG said they have received frequent inquiries about Liverpool being up for sale from different parties in recent times and that they are interested in bringing in new shareholders for the club. FSG said it will be willing to sell the club under the right terms and conditions.

"There have been a number of recent changes of ownership and rumours of changes in ownership at EPL clubs and inevitably we are asked regularly about Fenway Sports Group’s ownership in Liverpool," FSG said in a statement, as per The Athletic.

Since FSG took over the club in 2010, the owners have transformed the Mersyside outfit by developing a proper football structure and investing in the right kind of players. "FSG has frequently received expressions of interest from third parties seeking to become shareholders in Liverpool. Arsenal moved back to the top of the Premier League as Gabriel Magalhaes sealed a gritty 1-0 win against Chelsea after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's revenge mission fell flat on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta's side made it 11 wins from 13 league games thanks to a close-range finish from Brazilian defender Gabriel in the second half at Stamford Bridge.

The Gunners are two points clear of second-placed Manchester City after the champions briefly took pole position with a win against Fulham on Saturday.

With only one round of games remaining before the World Cup brings the Premier League to a halt, Arsenal have emerged as genuine contenders to end City's grip on the tite.

After beating Tottenham and Liverpool at home earlier this season, winning in west London was another significant statement from Arsenal as their unexpected challenge gathers pace.

This was an even sweeter victory than their other landmark successes this term as it came at the expense of former Arsenal star Aubameyang.

Aubameyang was anonymous in his first meeting with his old team since he was stripped of the captaincy and sold to Barcelona in January after Arteta lost patience with the Gabon forward's repeated disciplinary issues.

Exiling Aubameyang has proved an inspired move by Arteta as Arsenal look a far more unified and determined group without the sulking striker.

Booed by the travelling Arsenal fans, Aubameyang was so underwhelming that it might not be long before he becomes unwelcome at Chelsea as well.

Chelsea boss Graham Potter might also be feeling the heat soon after his side's winless league run extended to four games with a second successive top-flight defeat, prompting jeers from Blues fans at full-time.

Seventh-placed Chelsea lacked Arsenal's urgency and now trail the leaders by 13 points, with even a top four finish far from certain.

Arsenal have not won the title since Arsene Wenger's Invincibles in 2004, but no Gunners team has amassed more points at this stage in the Premier League era.

Authority and intent

Facing the latest test of their title credentials, Arteta's men were quickly into their stride, probing the Chelsea defence with authority and intent.

Ben White fired narrowly wide from the edge of the area after a flowing move cut through the Blues rearguard.

Snapping tigerishly at Chelsea, Arsenal were first to every 50-50 ball.

Gabriel Jesus robbed Ruben Loftus-Cheek and the Brazilian's menacing run took him into the Chelsea area before Thiago Silva snuffed out the danger with a superbly-timed sliding tackle.

Aubameyang struggled to make any impact and lost his cool with a reckless lunging foul on White that earned a booking from Michael Oliver.

Gabriel Martinelli was a constant threat and his floated cross picked out the unmarked Jesus, whose face was a picture of frustration after his diving header missed the target from just six yards.

Bukayo Saka was accused of diving by Potter after failing to win a foul when he went to ground after a shoulder barge from Marc Cucurella.

Played in by Saka's deft pass, Jesus forced a good save from Edouard Mendy and from the resulting corner Arsenal took the lead in the 63rd minute.

Chelsea's defending was woeful as Saka's delivery was missed by three Chelsea players before Gabriel reacted fastest to poke home on the goal-line.

The sight of Aubameyang being substituted moments after Gabriel's goal only added to the glee among the Arsenal fans crammed into one corner of the Shed End as they start to dream of title glory.

Premier League: Arsenal back on top with impressive win as Chelsea crash again

Retiring Barcelona defender Gerard Pique said he felt liberated when coach Xavi Hernandez took him off in the 83rd minute of the 2-0 win over Almeria on Saturday as he walked off in tears to a standing ovation from a packed Camp Nou.

The 35-year-old Pique announced on Friday that this would be his last game in the historic stadium as he decided to retire from soccer when LaLiga breaks for the World Cup next week.

"It was like taking a heavy burden off my back when I walked off the pitch," Pique told DAZN. "The last few months were really difficult and today I felt liberated. It was a lifetime experience that I'll take forever with me.

"I'm happy for giving it all for this club. There were good and bad days, but I'm proud of it. I think I leave with a job well done."

Pique started the game as captain on Saturday in a season where he faced heavy criticism for his poor form and fell out of favour with coach Xavi Hernandez who reportedly asked him in the close season to leave or retire.

The signings of centre backs Andreas Christensen, Jules Kounde, Eric Garcia and the breakout of youngster Ronald Araujo has left Pique out of the picture at the age of 35.

There was the added pressure regarding his salary, reportedly the biggest at a club struggling financially and where every euro could affect their ability to sign or register new players facing the scrutiny of LaLiga's Financial Fair Play.

According to multiple reports, Pique will renounce the remaining year and half of his salary, a decision that will help Barcelona improve their Financial Fair Play margin.

"Pique was outstanding today and has once again shown that the bigger the game, the more it pays off," Xavi told DAZN. "I have told him that he is a legend at Barca and we are very grateful for his years at the club."

After the game, Pique was lifted in the air by his team mates and celebrated by the fans who chanted repeatedly "President! President! President!" as he is widely viewed in Barcelona as a future candidate to take over that post.

Regarded as one of the best centre backs of his generation, Pique collected 36 trophies in an 18-year career, including four Champions League titles plus a World Cup and European Championship with Spain.

But he is also a successful businessman, as the founder of Kosmos Holding, a company that has big investments in E-Sports, owns Spain's second division club FC Andorra and signed a 25-year, $3 billion partnership with the International Tennis Federation to transform the Davis Cup, among other investments.

In June Pique announced his separation from Colombian singer Shakira and in April he denied any wrongdoing over his involvement in helping the Spanish FA secure a deal to relocate Spain's Super Cup to Saudi Arabia, an agreement which earned his Kosmos company $23.41 million in commission.

"I have a thousand things in front of me to choose, I need to organise myself," Pique said.

"This is my home. I was born here and I will return. But now it's time to enjoy the family, I'll go on vacation for a while."

'I felt liberated': Barcelona defender Gerard Pique on decision to retire from football

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been named the best player in the world five times, will arrive in Qatar with a mission to prove that he can still make a difference.

It is indisputable that Ronaldo is one of the greatest forwards of all time but his latest struggles with Manchester United and Portugal have raised many questions about whether his brilliant career is nearing a bitter end.

Ronaldo is the leading scorer in the history of men's international football with 117 goals in 191 official matches.

Between his first Portugal goal versus Greece at Euro 2004 and his most recent, a double against Switzerland in June 2022, 18 years have passed, making him a model of longevity.

He has scored 818 goals in his career and holds the record for the most Champions League goals in the competition's history with 140.

However, for a model athlete who got used to breaking records playing for some of the biggest clubs in the world, like Real Madrid, Juventus and Manchester United, his current form and attitude have been under the spotlight.

His brace versus the Swiss in the Nations League were his only goals in the 10 games Portugal have played in the last year.

With United he has scored just three times this season and his problems with manager Erik ten Hag have made headlines, with Ronaldo struggling to get into the starting team and expressing his dissatisfaction over the lack of minutes.

He was United's top scorer last season with 24 goals in all competitions after joining them from Juve. His contract is due to expire in June 2023, though United have an option to extend by a further year.

In his fifth World Cup, Ronaldo will arrive captaining a team of standout players who are widely seen as among the world's best but who have arguably underachieved on the biggest stage.

After reaching the World Cup semi-finals in 2006, they were knocked out twice in the last 16 (2010 and 2018) and at the group stage in 2014.

But even though the impression is that Ronaldo's brilliant path is coming to an end, he begs to differ.

"There is still a little more of Cristiano left. I'm part of a young team, I want to be in the World Cup but also in the next Euros," Ronaldo said at an event in Portugal in September.

A relentless mentality that could be the key to him making a statement with his country in Qatar against all odds.
