The LAPD is actively investigating the matter, with no arrests reported at this time. The actor, along with his wife Lee Min Jung, purchased the LA residence near Universal Studios in 2019 for approximately $2 million. The actor made his Hollywood debut in 2009 with the film G.I. <p>A judge on Monday rejected Cher’s request that her adult son be put into a court conservatorship controlling his money.</p>

<p>The Oscar and Grammy-winning singer and actor had argued in a petition that 47-year-old Elijah Blue Allman’s large payments from the trust of his late father, rocker Gregg Allman, are putting him in danger because of his struggles with mental health and substance abuse.</p>

<p>But Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Jessica A. Uzcategui was not convinced that a conservatorship was urgently needed and declined the petition, though she will still consider a larger, long-term conservatorship at a hearing in March.</p>

<p>Cher observed the hearing remotely. She appeared on a large screen in the courtroom throughout but did not take part in the arguments.</p>

<p>Allman was in the courtroom with his attorneys, who acknowledged his previous struggles but argued that he is in a good place now, attending meetings, getting treatment and reconciling with his previously estranged wife.</p>

<p>“We are thrilled that the court saw that he does not need a temporary conservatorship,” Allman’s lawyer said as he stood alongside him outside the courthouse. “He’s got a lot of support, he’s doing great.”</p>

<p>Cher’s attorneys argued that the support Allman was getting was from people who told him what he wanted to hear and downplayed the size of his problems. They said his current apparent sobriety and mental health were illusory. They said he suffers from bipolar disorder, has been recently homeless, and that having large amounts of money might lead to access to drugs that could endanger his life.</p>

<p>Blue and his attorneys have consistently argued since the petition was first filed in December that none of this is true.</p>

<p>A jury found Friday that celebrity tattoo artist Kat Von D did not violate a photographer’s copyright when she used his portrait of Miles Davis as the basis for a tattoo she put on the arm of a friend.</p>

<p>The Los Angeles jury deliberated for just over two hours before deciding that the tattoo by the former star of the reality shows <em>Miami Ink</em>&nbsp;and <em>LA Ink</em>&nbsp;was not similar enough to photographer Jeffrey Sedlik’s 1989 portrait of the jazz legend that she needed to have paid permission.</p>

<p>“I’m obviously very happy for this to be over,” Von D, who inked her friend’s arm with Davis as a gift about seven years ago, said outside the courtroom. “It’s been two years of a nightmare worrying about this, not just for myself but for my fellow tattoo artists.”</p>

<p>The eight jurors made the same decision about a drawing Von D made from the portrait to base the tattoo on, and several social media posts she made about the process, which were also part of Sedlik’s lawsuit. They found that the tattoo, drawing and posts also all fell within the legal doctrine of fair use of a copyrighted work, giving Von D and other tattoo artists who supported her and followed the trial a resounding across-the-board victory.</p>

<p>“We’ve said all along that this case never should have been brought,” Von D’s attorney Allen B. Grodsky said after the verdict. “The jury recognised that this was just ridiculous.”</p>

<p>Sedlik’s attorney Robert Edward Allen said they plan to appeal. He said the images, which both featured a close-up of Davis gazing toward the viewer and making a “shh” gesture, were so similar he didn’t know how the jury could reach the conclusion they did.</p>

<p>“If those two things are not substantially similar, then no one’s art is safe,” Allen said.</p>

<p>He told jurors during closing arguments earlier Friday that the case has “nothing to do with tattoos.”</p>

<p>“It’s about copying others’ protected works,” Allen said. “It’s not going to hurt the tattoo industry. The tattoo police are not going to come after anyone.”</p>

<p>Allen emphasized the meticulous work Sedlik did to set up the shoot, to create the lighting and mood, and to put Davis in the pose that would make for an iconic photo that was first published on the cover of JAZZIZ magazine in 1989. Sedlik registered the copyright in 1994.</p>

<p>And he said that subsequently, licensing the image to others including tattoo artists was a major part of how he made his living.</p>

<p>Von D said during the three-day trial that she never licenses the images she recreates, and she considers work like the Davis tattoo a form of “fan art.”</p>

<p>“I made zero money off it,” she testified. “I’m not mass-producing anything. I think there is a big difference.”</p>

<p>The 5th Dimension and Marvin Gaye also recorded “California Soul,” yet Shaw’s version became the standard. It was one of two hits that came from “The Spice of Life.” The other was “Woman of the Ghetto,” which Shaw co-authored and which likewise has been widely sampled.</p>

<p>Born Marlina Burgess in New Rochelle, New York, on Sept. 22, 1942, Shaw performed in jazz clubs before signing with Chess Records in the late ‘60s. She released her first two albums on Chess’ Cadet label before leaving for Blue Note in 1972.</p>

<p>Shaw, who had five children, toured for more than 50 years and put out 17 albums across eight different labels.</p>

<p>In a statement, Verve records remembered Shaw.</p>

<p>Renowned Bollywood actor Ranvir Shorey recently took to social media to raise serious concerns about a major commercial airline, accusing them of an alleged 10-hour delay and asserting that the staff allegedly provided false information regarding bad weather conditions.&nbsp;The actor, known for his roles in <em>Khosla Ka Ghosla</em>&nbsp;and <em>A Death In The Gunj</em>, revealed in his now-viral post that the flight he and his seven friends were scheduled to travel on lacked an assigned pilot.</p>

<p>On Monday, Shorey shared his&nbsp;ordeal on social media platform X and announced his intention to file a complaint against the airline for the "trauma" he endured at the airport.</p>

<p>In his post, Shorey explained, "Our flight was scheduled for 2 PM. All 8 of us checked in 2 hours prior as stipulated, and only then were we informed that the flight was 3 hours late due to bad weather (fog)." He expressed understanding initially but later confronted the airline staff when the delays persisted.&nbsp;"We were not intimated prior to reaching the airport. Still, we did not complain, thinking there must have been a communication issue and were completely understanding, as we were aware that at this time of the year these things happen sometimes," Shorey wrote.</p>

<p>The actor recounted that the flight's status on the airline's website indicated no fog issues at Kolkata, from where the aircraft was supposed to arrive in Bengaluru. Confronted with this information, Shorey claimed the staff attributed the inconsistency to an update error on the website and assured him that the flight would depart around 8 pm.</p>

<p>"When we confronted the Indigo staff with this information, he simply said that the website has not been updated properly, and gave us his 'personal guarantee' that the flight will take off at around 8 pm. This was important for me as my child would be alone at home if I did not get back by around 10-10:30 pm," the Mumbai-based actor continued.</p>

<p>However, Shorey alleged that the actual cause of the delay, revealed later by the new staff after a shift change, was the unavailability of a pilot for the flight. Despite assurances, the actor stated that the flight eventually departed around midnight, a staggering 10 hours after the scheduled time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"He assured me that a pilot has now been assigned and the flight will take off by 10:30 pm. By now I was feeling completely helpless. I somehow made arrangements for someone to watch over my child as I knew that we had been fed lies non-stop for the last 8 hours and were in a hopeless situation. After this, we had to face another 2-3 hours of lies and delays before a pilot showed up and our flight took off at around midnight, 10 hours after the scheduled time of the flight!&nbsp;</p>

<p>Expressing frustration and helplessness, he concluded his post saying, "We will be filing a complaint for the trauma we have been doled out yesterday by @IndiGo6E in the name of air travel."</p>
