Twitter subpoenas host of tech investors and entrepreneurs connected to Elon Musk: Report

Though widely regarded as a genius and astute businessman by many, Elon Musk seems to have left his father unimpressed. So much so, that the 76-year-old Errol Musk, has gone public in admitting that his son is yet to accomplish more in life. In a 20-minute interview on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, Errol talked about his son’s business ventures and the rest of Musk family. Moreover, he also took a dig at the Tesla chief’s physical appearance.

“Your offspring is a genius. He’s worth so much money and has created so many things, you can’t take that away from him. Are you proud?” presenter Jackie O asked Errol.

To this, Errol replied, “No. You know, we are a family that have been doing a lot of things for a long time, it’s not as if we suddenly started doing something.”

The Twitter-Elon Musk saga is still on with an interesting court battle to follow. In the latest development, Twitter on Friday (July 22) blamed disappointing results on "headwinds," including the uncertainty over the multi-million dollar Twitter buyout bid.

The legal battle started after Twitter sued Musk for breaching the $44 billion contract he had signed to buy the tech firm. Twitter has asked a Delaware court to order Musk to complete the merger at the agreed $54.20 per Twitter share.

The company reported that Twitter missed expectations with revenue of $1.18 billion, due to "advertising industry headwinds... as well as uncertainty related to the pending acquisition of Twitter by an affiliate of Elon Musk."

Jasmine Enberg, who is the principal analyst at research firm Insider Intelligence, said, "Twitter is now in the unenviable position of convincing advertisers that its ad business is solid regardless of how its court battle with Musk ends, and its Q2 earnings show that the platform has its work cut it out for it to do that."

According to Refinitiv IBES data, the advertising revenue rose just 2% to $1.08 billion. It missed Wall Street expectations of $1.22 billion.

On Friday, Twitter shares opened flat at $38.90. Twitter also reported that the number of "monetizable" daily active users increased by 8.8 million, less than expected by analysts, to 237.8 million. Monetizable daily active users are those who can be shown advertising.

Elon Musk's chaotic buyout bid responsible for headwinds, says Twitter

People have been relentlessly trolling Elon Musk ever since his bare-chested photos became viral. But the tech mogul has been immune to the mocking and has taken the criticism in a stride. Rather, he has been motivating people to hit the gym, “eat healthier and maybe take my shirt off outside more than once a year".

The shirtless photos, which were obtained by Page Six, nearly broke the internet. According to reports, he was aboard a luxury yacht in Mykonos, Greece, with newlywed friends Ari Emanuel and Sarah Staudinger.

On Thursday, a user tried to defend Musk by taking pot shots at critics who were making fun of his physique.

“According to new CDC guidelines anyone posting a shirtless pick of @elonmusk to make fun of him must also post a shirtless pic of themselves for comparison,” the account said.

But Musk’s response to the tweet won the hearts of everyone.

“Tbh, it’s good motivation to work out, eat healthier & maybe take my shirt off outside more than once a year haha (sic),” he joked.

Elon Musk's 76 year old father claims sperm banks are hounding him for his 'genetic material'

Elon Musk has lost Twitter's lawsuit against him. The social media giant Twitter and Elon Musk are scheduled to face off in a five-day trial in October of the billionaire's change of mind about buying the social media company.

Twitter wins first leg of legal battle with Elon Musk; Five-Day trial in October

Lawyers for Twitter and Elon Musk squared off for the first time in court on Tuesday (July 19). According to a judge in the eastern US state of Delaware, social media giant Twitter can fast-track its lawsuit against Musk over his cancelled buyout.

The trial will take place in October over whether or not the Tesla chief can be forced to complete his $44 billion deal to buy the social network.

On Tuesday, the Delaware judge ruled against the Musk lawyer's appeal for a February trial. The judge ordered for a month much closer to Twitter's request for September, but did not specify a date.

Twitter lawyer William Savitt argued: "We urge the court to enter a prompt schedule and give multiple grounds for that."

Savitt noted that "the continued uncertainty caused by Musk's purported termination inflicts harm on Twitter every day, every hour of every day."

The tech company had said that in case Musk is ordered to close the deal it could still take months of additional litigation to close the debt financing, which expires in April. Twitter had asked the judge to reject Musk's proposal to hold the trial in February.

All of this started when Musk sent a letter to Twitter saying he was pulling out of the controversial deal he made in April to buy the platform for $54.20 per share, or $44 billion in total.

The San Francisco-based company had argued that no financial damages could repair the damage Musk caused after he said he would not complete the deal.

Twitter says Elon Musk is 'slow-walking' trial over $44 billion deal

It seems that the reported feud between Tesla chief Elon Musk and Twitter CEO Parag Agarwal is refusing to die down. According to reports, the 51-year-old tech mogul sent a “warning text” to Twitter's CEO and CFO saying that the social media tech's lawyers were trying to "cause trouble" after they requested information about the status of Musk's financing for a deal to buy the microblogging site.

Business Insider, citing a lawsuit filed in Delaware court on Tuesday, reported that Musk texted CEO Parag Agrawal and CFO Ned Segal on June 28, saying, "Your lawyers are using these conversations to cause trouble. That needs to stop."

It all began when Musk repeatedly put pressure on Twitter to provide him with sufficient information about the number of spam bots on the platform.

Musk had listed the removal of bot accounts as one of his priorities while closing the deal with Twitter.

But when Musk indicated that he may drop the deal as he was not provided any information, Twitter’s lawyers suspected that it had something to do with finances, Business Insider reported.

In response to that, the company’s lawyers sought information from Musk on how he would finance the $44 billion deal.

The Tesla boss, in turn, shot messages to Agrawal and Segal.

In the lawsuit filed by Twitter in Delaware, the company’s legal team has argued that he is contractually obligated to follow through on his agreement to buy the company, despite publicly declaring on Friday that he'd seek to pull out of the deal, according to Business Insider.

Twitter's lawyers claimed that the Tesla chief is backing down from the deal because Tesla shares, which comprise a significant proportion of Musk's personal wealth, have tanked since April.
