Citing concerns over "World War III", Tesla CEO Elon Musk blamed the Russia-Ukraine conflict for delaying Twitter's buyout deal worth $44 billion.

Highlighting that the purchase wouldn't "make sense" if a third world war were imminent, the billionaire had allegedly said it'd be wise to "slow down" his Twitter acquisition.

"Their theory about what really happened isn't what really happened," Insider quoted Musk's lawyer as saying.

In response, Twitter said, "The purported termination is invalid for the independent reason that Musk and the other Musk parties have knowingly, intentionally, willfully, and materially breached the agreement."

Elon Musk blames Russia-Ukraine conflict for delaying Twitter's buyout deal

Amid the legal courtroom battle between Twitter and Elon Musk, the former's shareholders on Tuesday approved the $44 billion buyout. Reportedly, after months of discussion, Twitter shareholders decided to accept Musk's $54.20 per share offer which was made in April before he went back on it. According to Twitter, more than 98.6 per cent of votes were cast in favour of the deal. WATCH | US: Twitter shareholders vote in favour of Elon Musk's deal, deal worth $44 bn signed in April × While the investors have given their nod, it looks highly unlikely it will be smooth sailing from here onwards. As reported extensively by WION, the Tesla founder is not willing to go ahead with the deal unless his demands about the reality of the bot accounts are explained by Twitter. The eccentric billionaire continues to claim that Twitter has close to 20 per cent bot accounts, as opposed to the five per cent that the company claims. Musk announced in July that he was suspending the deal agreement, alleging Twitter had concealed information about these accounts. Consequently, Twitter sued Musk to complete the transaction and has claimed that the issue is unrelated to the deal. It is pertinent to note that the trial starts next month on October 17. In addition to the bot controversy, Musk is now fixated on the testimony of Twitter whistleblowers who are exposing the microblogging platform and its shadowy security policies. Thereby, granting Musk another reason to tank the deal. Read more: After bots, what is Elon Musk's new reason to terminate the Twitter deal? However, the approval clears the path for the consummation of the deal, if the trial, starting next month goes against Musk. In that case, barring another appeal, Musk would have to shell out the said amount to buy Twitter. (With inputs from agencies) WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

Twitter whistleblower Peiter “Mudge” Zatko told the Senate Judiciary Committee in the United States on Tuesday that the social media company knowingly allowed India and China to add their agents to their workforce. Zatko, who was their former security chief, said that Twitter hired at least one agent from China’s intelligence service and accused the company of giving nations access to their data, according to AP.

Zatko has been extremely vocal about Twitter’s weak cyber defence, and said that the lack of focus on security has made the “company vulnerable to exploitation by teenagers, thieves and spies”.

Reports suggest that a majority of Twitter Inc's shareholders have voted in favour of the social media company's $44 billion sale to Elon Musk. Even though the deadline for the vote is Tuesday, Monday's tally has pretty much sealed the deal. An official announcement is expected in the coming days. Twitter and Musk haven't said anything about the reports yet.

Musk has been coming up with reasons to not go through with the deal. He has argued that he was misled over the spam accounts on the platform and was not notified of a pay settlement the company reached with one of its top executives.

In a letter sent to Twitter on Friday, Musk's lawyers said Twitter's failure to seek his consent before paying $7.75 million to Peiter Zatko and his lawyers violated the merger agreement. They say that the agreement restricted when Twitter could make such payments.

However, Twitter said payments made to the whistleblower did not breach any terms of its sale to Musk and that Musk's reasons for wanting to back out of the deal were "invalid and wrongful".

Zatko was fired in January as the company's security head. He accused the firm last month of falsely claiming it had a solid security plan and making misleading statements about its defenses against hackers and spam accounts. He is set to meet the US Senate Judiciary committee on Tuesday to discuss the allegations.

Meanwhile, the Twitter vs Musk trial is scheduled to start on October 17 in Delaware Chancery Court.

Morning news brief: Zelensky taunts Russia, guns purchased in US to be tracked & more

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has fueled a rather wild conspiracy theory after reports emerged suggesting that top chess player Hans Niemann, 19 might be cheating to win his matches.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has fueled a rather wild conspiracy theory after reports emerged suggesting that top chess player Hans Niemann, 19 might be cheating to win his matches. Reportedly, Musk took to his Twitter account to suggest that Niemann might be using 'anal beads' to beat the system and avoid getting detected by the tournament organisers. Musk tweeted the video of a content creator claiming that Hans might have been using anal beads. The creator tweeted the video with the caption, "Currently obsessed with the notion that Hans Niemann has been cheating at the Sinquefield Cup chess tournament using wireless anal beads that vibrate him the correct moves." Re-sharing the post with the quote of a German philosopher named Arthur Schopenhauer, Musk wrote, “Talent hits a target no one else can hit, genius hits a target no one can see (cause it’s in your butt)” – Schopenhauer.” Since then, Musk has deleted his tweet but the archived version as well as the screenshots continue to do the rounds of internet. It is pertinent to note that Niemann shocked the Chess world earlier this week by defeating five-time world champion Magnus Carlsen, 31 in the $500,000 Sinquefield Cup, an annual chess tournament held in Saint Louis. Afterward, Carlsen quit the tournament which added fuel to the fire. While Carlsen did not cite any reason for quitting the tournament, most fans believed that it was because of Niemann. Big, big trouble." I've withdrawn from the tournament. I've always enjoyed playing in the @STLChessClub, and hope to be back in the future https://t.co/YFSpl8er3u — Magnus Carlsen (@MagnusCarlsen) September 5, 2022 × After the controversy snowballed, Niemann, who is a Grandmaster as well, stated that he will strip naked if it is what it took to plead his innocence. "If they want me to strip fully naked, I will do it. I don’t care. Because I know I am clean. You want me to play in a closed box with zero electronic transmission, I don’t care." The 19-year-old made it clear that he did cheat once by using computer assistance when playing online as a child, but he had not resorted to unfair means in the tournament. Read more: Deal reached in 'Queen's Gambit' defamation suit against Netflix It is pertinent to note that chess players in tournaments as big as the Sinquefield Cup go through multiple rounds of screening before making it to their designated table and chair. Moreover, the anti-cheating protocol of the tournament includes a 15-minute delay in the broadcast of moves and radio-frequency identification checks. Carlsen's form in recent months has been shaky. He lost against young Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa. Meanwhile, Musk is infamous for tweeting innate things just for laughs and gags. Thus, a section of netizens believes that there is not much substance in the conspiracy theories floating around regarding the anal beads. (With inputs from agencies) WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

Elon Musk jumps in on the 'anal beads' chess championship conspiracy theory

Elon Musk filed under seal an amended countersuit against Twitter Inc on Friday to incorporate recent whistleblower claims of security lapses at the social media platform, according to court records.

Musk's legal team argued on Tuesday that justice demanded delaying the five-day trial so Musk could investigate claims by whistleblower Peiter Zatko, known as "Mudge," that Twitter hid weaknesses in its security and data privacy.

Musk's initial case against Twitter claimed the company misrepresented the prevalence of spam or bot accounts on the platform.

Last month, Zatko's allegations became public and provided Musk, the world's richest person, fresh ammunition to bolster what legal experts said was a long-shot attempt to walk away without paying a $1 billion termination fee.

“We look forward to presenting our case in court beginning on Oct. 17th and intend to close the transaction on the price and terms agreed upon with Mr. Musk,” said a statement from Twitter spokesman.

Elon Musk files amended counterclaims vs Twitter under seal

The Twitter-Elon Musk saga refuses to die down or reach any conclusion. Reportedly, the Tesla founder has now used a severance payment made to a whistleblower as a reason to walk out of the $44 billion deal.

Reportedly, Musk on Friday in a termination letter claimed that Twitter did not inform him about a multi-million dollar severance package that was extended to Twitter's departing security chief Peiter Zatko.

Musk's lawyers argued that Twitter failed to seek Zatko's consent before handing him the severance payment which provides the Tesla head with another legal basis to walk out of the merger.

In response, Twitter attempted to argue that it wasn't liable to inform about the severance package.

"My friend seems to be arguing that Twitter should have gratuitously told Musk that there existed a disgruntled former employee who made various allegations that had been inquired upon and found to be without merit. That doesn't make any sense," said William Savitt, Twitter attorney.

It is pertinent to note that after departing or rather forced out of Twitter, Zatko filed a whistleblower complaint, criticising the micro-blogging platform's data security practices.

Meanwhile, Musk's attorney's have asked the court to delay the five-day trial that starts on October 17 so that they could investigate claims made by Zatko, also known as "Mudge", that Twitter hid weaknesses in its security and data privacy.

As reported by WION, this is not the first time that Elon Musk has used a previous Twitter employee and their credentials to tank the deal.

In a court filing, Musk had submitted the names of 22 data custodians whose documents he wanted to review. One of them included former General Manager of Consumer Product Kayvon Beykpour who was fired by Twitter in May.

Prior to making the severance deal as another reason to quit the deal, Musk has been using the bot and spam accounts as a reason to not go ahead with the deal.

The eccentric billionaire continues to claim that Twitter has close to 20 per cent bot accounts, as opposed to the five per cent that the company claims. Musk announced in July that he was suspending the deal agreement, alleging Twitter had concealed information about these accounts. US judge says Elon Musk can use whistleblower claims, but rejects delaying Twitter trial

Disney's former chief operating officer Bob Iger said that the company found that a "substantial portion" of Twitter's users were "not real" in 2016.

Highlighting that he got cold feet when the Walt Disney Co and Twitter Inc boards were prepared to enter negotiations, Iger said it was discontinued due to the discounted value.

Amid a legal battle between billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk and Twitter over his deal to buy the social media company for $44 billion, Iger's comments could help the Tesla CEO.

Pointing out that he had second thoughts about a deal with Twitter because of the "nastiness" of the discourse on the social media platform, Igor said he feared would become a distraction.

Following the rejection to delay the lawsuit, Musk could add whistleblowing revelations from a Twitter ex-security chief that surfaced in August.

Saying prolonging the suit "would risk further harm to Twitter too great to justify," the chancellor of the Delaware court Kathaleen McCormick denied his request to push back the litigation.

Accusing Twitter of misleading him regarding the number of bot accounts on its platform, Musk cancelled the deal.

Arguing that Musk's request was another delay tactic, Twitter's attorneys said he was trying to derail the takeover.

A report by the Washington Post had made revelations criticising Twitter's security practices first became public in August.

Accusing Twitter of misleading him regarding the number of bot accounts on its platform, Musk cancelled the deal. Arguing that Musk's request was another delay tactic, Twitter's attorneys said he was trying to derail the takeover. The $258 billion racketeering lawsuit accusing Elon Musk of creating a pyramid scheme to fund the cryptocurrency Dogecoin has expanded, adding seven new investment plaintiffs and six new defendants including his tunnel construction enterprise Boring Co.

According to an additional complaint filed on Tuesday night in Manhattan federal court, Musk, his electric vehicle firm Tesla Inc, his space tourism company SpaceX, Boring and others purposefully built up the price of Dogecoin by more than 36,000% over two years and then allowed it drop.

Despite knowing all along that the currency had no intrinsic value and that its value "depended solely on marketing," the defendants "profited tens of billions of dollars" as a result at the expense of other Dogecoin investors, the complaint claimed.

Requests for comment on Wednesday were not immediately answered by Tesla, SpaceX, or Boring. In 2020, Tesla closed its media relations division.

In June, the initial lawsuit was submitted.

The richest man in the world, Elon Musk, said in an interview that he would "keep supporting Dogecoin" and that "people that work around the factory at SpaceX or Tesla" had asked him for that support shortly after that, according to the amended complaint.

The Dogecoin Foundation, which describes itself as a nonprofit organisation that oversees and supports Dogecoin, is one of the additional new defendants. It could not be reached right away for comment.

NASA's Artemis mission to the Moon has been marred by delays. The launch of Artemis-1 was scheduled and delayed again and again. Billionaire and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk now has a suggestion for NASA.

At the time of the launch of Artemis-1 NASA engineers could not overcome a hydrogen leak in a 'quick disconnect' phase of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket launch.

According to Eric Berger of Ars Technica, NASA has a tolerance for a small amount of hydrogen leakage and anything above a 4% concentration of hydrogen near the 'quick disconnect' is considered a flammability hazard.

Musk replied to Berger's 'accurate assessment', saying that "Raptor design started out using H2 (hydrogen), but switched to CH4 (hydrogen). Latter is the best combo of high efficiency and ease of operation in my opinion."

"Delta-v difference between H2 and CH4 is small for most missions, because the CH4 tank is much smaller & no insulation is needed," Musk explained.

The delta-v is the difference of velocity that a rocket engine can impose on a spacecraft as a function of the specific impulse and the variation in the mass of the vehicle itself.

According to him, CH4 (methane) is easier to produce on Mars and is "very important" for launch missions. SpaceX is among the first companies to use liquid methane and hydrogen as fuel.

Elon Musk has plans for a self-sustaining city on Mars in 20 years' time. SpaceX is preparing the Starship mega rocket to take people and cargo to the moon, Mars and beyond.

According to the report, The NASA showstopper "was an 8-inch diameter line carrying liquid hydrogen into the rocket. It sprung a persistent leak at the inlet, known as a quick-disconnect, leading on board the vehicle".

Artemis-1 postponements: Elon Musk has a suggestion for NASA

After the whistle blower expose regarding Twitter, Elon Musk is now seeking to delay the court trial over his attention to back out of a 44 billion dollar deal to buy Twitter until November.

Elon Musk seeking to delay Twitter trial until November

Elon Musk has recently sent a new letter of deal termination, along with the most recent whistleblower complaint from the former social media head of the social media firm, in the latest effort to sever the $44 billion agreement with Twitter.

Musk and his legal team have also subpoenaed the whistleblower who is known as "Mudge", seeking information about the microblogging platform's methodology for measuring spam accounts.

Famous hacker Peiter Zatko, a.k.a Mudge, alleged in his complaint last week that Twitter falsely stated it had a strong security plan and that the company prioritised user growth over eliminating spam.

Reuters reports that in a letter dated August 29, Musk and his legal team said that if the allegation were accurate, Twitter had violated some of the terms of the merger agreement.

According to a regulatory filing made by Musk on Tuesday, his legal team claimed that allegations regarding specific facts that Twitter was aware of before July 8 but which were not disclosed to them create additional and distinct grounds to terminate the agreement.

However, Twitter has said in its regulatory filing that the new termination notice was illegal and void under the terms of the agreement.

For more than a month now, Tesla CEO has sought ways to terminate the deal with Twitter. In his attempts, he has subpoenaed Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, the social media company's employees and also external players like ad tech firms.

Musk says that the reason behind this is that he was misled by Twitter about the true number of bot or spam account on the platform.

Tesla has been looking to perfect the self-driving technology in their cars for quite some time and it looks like the solution is almost ready. Musk was in attendance at an energy conference in Norway and when asked about Tesla’s plans, he said that the complete focus is currently on self-driving electric cars and the SpaceX Starship program.

'Can't have a fancy house...': Why Elon Musk makes his mother sleep in garage when she visits him

The fortunes of America’s richest people got slashed by $78 billion following Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's speech.

During his speech, which was eight minutes long, Powell pointed out that the US central bank will keep raising interest rates and probably leave them elevated for a while to reduce inflation.

Powell, who was speaking at the Kansas City Fed’s annual policy forum in Jackson Hole, was seen pushing back on a recent rally in US stocks that was triggered by rumours that policymakers would soon reverse course from their aggressive monetary tightening.

After an unprecedented run-up during the Covid-19 pandemic when interest rates were pinned near zero, Powell’s speech served as a reminder that valuations of giant technology companies remain high by historical standards.

Following Powell's speech, the S&P 500 tumbled 3.4 per cent and the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 plunged more than 4 per cent.

Not only this, billionaires such as Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and Bill Gates lost $6.8 billion, $5.5 billion, $2.7 billion and $2.2 billion respectively.

In the steepest six-month drop ever for the wealthiest people on the planet, the world’s 500 richest people lost $1.4 trillion in the first half of 2022.

× After an unprecedented run-up during the Covid-19 pandemic when interest rates were pinned near zero, Powell’s speech served as a reminder that valuations of giant technology companies remain high by historical standards. Since November 2020, US stocks in July posted their strongest monthly advance leading investors to wager that the worst of the market rout was over. Fortunes of America’s richest people slashed by $78bn after Fed chief Powell's speech

A hindrance occurred in SpaceX’s efforts to provide space-based broadband internet after a US court upheld the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) decision to approve a plan to place some Starlink satellites at a lower Earth orbit than originally planned.

In 2021, the FCC gave SpaceX approval to launch 2,824 satellites at a lower orbit to bring high-speed broadband internet to individuals who currently do not have access to it.

However, Viasat Inc. and DISH opposed the FCC’s decision.

Viasat said that the decision is a setback for space and environmental conservation. It further added that if the court forced the FCC to address "complicated issues surrounding the deployment of mega-constellations in (low-earth orbit), we believe harmful impacts that otherwise may persist for decades or even centuries to come could have been avoided," Reuters reported.

According to Viasat, the space agency's deployment is extensive. It said that, in comparison, nearly 10,000 satellites have been launched overall in human history. The firm has only one satellite flying close to SpaceX’s constellation. The court ruling found Viasat’s decision speculative.

The other decision DISH said that the ruling does not alter the FCC's forbidding Musk’s space agency from interfering with other television satellites.

Additionally, mobile phones can directly contact satellites in space US cellular carrier T-Mobile US Inc announced that it will use SpaceX’s satellites to give network access to users.

The FCC last month rejected SpaceX’s Starlink petition for $885.5 million in internet service subsidies.

SpaceX has launched nearly 3,000 satellites into low-Earth orbit since 2019.

Nine corporate governance experts told news agency Reuters that billionaire Elon Musk's decision to have children with one of his top executives at Neuralink has pushed the limits of corporate governance norms.

The Tesla CEO, who is chief engineer of SpaceX and co-founder of Neuralink, had twin babies with Shivon Zilis last November.

According to five people familiar with the situation, Zilis told some of her colleagues that she was not involved romantically with Musk.

The 36-year-old, who used to report directly to Musk, conceived the children with him through in vitro fertilisation (IVF).

The corporate governance experts said that relationships between supervisors and subordinates are frowned upon at companies and have cost some high-profile CEOs their jobs.

Interestingly, “personal relationships” and “close personal friendships” between employees are prohibited as per Neuralink’s 62-page handbook.

Referring to the Neuralink code of conduct, Nell Minow, vice chair of corporate governance consultancy ValueEdge Advisors, said “Whatever lawyer wrote this language did not contemplate this situation.”

Although the company wants to avoid conflicts of interest due to relationships between employees, the situation appeared to “fall between the cracks”, according to Minow.

In order to eliminate any conflict, employees are advised to disclose such interests to the company’s “people operations manager”.

A source familiar with the company’s handling of the matter told Reuters that Zilis' description of a non-romantic relationship has been accepted by Neuralink.

Taking the helm at internal and external company meetings, Musk and Zilis both have also continued working together.

Not only have they listed the same address in Texas, but the court filing published by Insider also shows that they asked for the children to take Musk’s last name.

Zilis having children with Musk through IVF should be read as having a “personal relationship” or “close friendship” under Neuralink’s code of conduct, according to four corporate governance experts.
