Pentagon considering funding Starlink network in Ukraine: Report

Elon Musk has said that his rocket company SpaceX will continue to fund its Starlink broadband service in Ukraine, citing the Need For Good Deeds. This comes a day after he said that the company could no longer afford to do so.

Elon Musk: SpaceX will keep funding Starlink internet service in Ukraine

<p>Social media giant Twitter has said that billionaire Elon Musk was under a federal investigation in relation to his USD 44 billion takeover deal. Twitter made the statement in a court filing that was made public on Thursday (October 13). Twitter said that though it requested for months, Musk's attorneys did not produce their communication with the federal authorities. Twitter then asked a Delaware judge to order them to provide the documents.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In late September, Musk's attorneys provided a "privilege log" identifying documents to be withheld from discovery. The log referenced drafts of a May 13 email to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and a slide presentation to the Federal Trade Commission, Twitter said.</p>

<p>"This game of 'hide the ball' must end," the company said in the court filing.</p>

<p>Reuters said that an attorney for Musk didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.</p>

<p>Twitter's court request was filed on October 6, the same day the Delaware judge halted the litigation to allow Twitter and Musk to close the takeover deal.</p>

<p>US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has questioned Musk's comments about Twitter acquisition. In April, the SEC asked Musk whether the disclosure of his 9% Twitter stake was late and why it indicated that he intended to be a passive shareholder. Musk later refiled the disclosure to indicate he was an active investor.</p>

<p>In June, the SEC asked Musk in a letter whether he should have amended his public filing to reflect his intention to suspend or abandon the deal.</p>

Twitter then asked a Delaware judge to order them to provide the documents. In late September, Musk's attorneys provided a "privilege log" identifying documents to be withheld from discovery. The log referenced drafts of a May 13 email to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and a slide presentation to the Federal Trade Commission, Twitter said. "This game of 'hide the ball' must end," the company said in the court filing. Reuters said that an attorney for Musk didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. Twitter's court request was filed on October 6, the same day the Delaware judge halted the litigation to allow Twitter and Musk to close the takeover deal. US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has questioned Musk's comments about Twitter acquisition. In April, the SEC asked Musk whether the disclosure of his 9% Twitter stake was late and why it indicated that he intended to be a passive shareholder. Musk later refiled the disclosure to indicate he was an active investor. In June, the SEC asked Musk in a letter whether he should have amended his public filing to reflect his intention to suspend or abandon the deal. Taiwan’s premier Su Tseng-chang dismissed Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s recent comments about the island by saying that he "doesn't know much" about the region or its politics. Musk courted controversy once again this week when he suggested that Taiwan should become a part of China. In an interview with the Financial Times, Musk pointed towards the governing system used by China when it comes to Macau and Hong Kong as the "reasonably palatable" agreement with Taiwan. He insisted that it is better for both countries for Taiwan to become a "special administrative zone". Also read | G7 to hold crisis talks on Russia's bomb assault on Kyiv The situation between China and Taiwan has worsened over time and after the visit of United States House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan, the “proxy wars” have begun as well. In the past few months, China has held several military drills across the Taiwan Strait as a “show of power”. Amidst the tension, the comments made by Musk have not been taken kindly by Taiwan. "Musk is a businessman," Su said in the parliament. "He has a big car factory in Shanghai, and he wants to promote his electric vehicles... a businessman may say this today and say that tomorrow". Also read | Israel and Lebanon reach 'historic agreement' on maritime border: Reports "Musk only speaks for himself but he really doesn't know much about Taiwan, and he also doesn't understand cross-strait relations," Su added according to Reuters. Earlier, the same comments were praised highly by Beijing's ambassador to Washington Qin Gang. The billionaire also found support from other Chinese officials who used the comments to once again emphasise the legitimacy of China’s claim in Taiwan.

<p>Tesla Inc is starting semi-electric commercial truck production and PepsiCo Inc will get the first deliveries on Dec. 1, the electric vehicle maker's chief&nbsp;Elon&nbsp;Musk tweeted on Thursday.</p>

<p>The truck is expected to cost $180,000, although it would qualify for a tax break of up to $40,000 under a US&nbsp;subsidy programme approved by the Senate.</p>

After Ukraine-Russia, Elon Musk now has a suggestion on how to end China-Taiwan tensions

Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted on Tuesday that buying Twitter is an “accelerant to creating X, the everything app.” He did not provide further details. Is Musk considering creating a super app?

<p>As it happens, the Tesla founder is now dancing with/on/about Twitter in an on-off-on takeover drama, because, as I have repeatedly argued, it is the world's new parliament, just as Facebook is the new cafe. Twitter's executives and Musk himself have likened it to a digital age town square. That makes the $44-billion attempted buyout sound like a recipe for world domination.</p>

Twitter takeover bid: Porus Parag and Alexander Musk must make Asia wary of a US cyber empire

<p>There might be some significant adjustments coming to Twitter.</p>

<p>Following a sudden U-turn, Elon Musk is now in a position to take over the social media site, which are likely to result in a variety of technical and operational changes. Just before he decided to join the board of directors in April, Musk texted Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, saying, "I have a tonne of ideas.&nbsp;I only want Twitter to be as fantastic as possible."</p>

<p>Before the deal can be finalised, there are some obstacles to be addressed. Musk's $44 billion buyout offer for Twitter still needs to be accepted, and it appears that the parties cannot agree on finance parameters. Musk asked Twitter to discontinue all legal action in a filing with the Delaware Chancery Court, cancelling a court hearing that was still set for October 17, according to CNBC.<br />
<br />
However, if the agreement is approved, analysts caution that Musk's emphasis on unfettered free expression may offer additional difficulties, which might have significant ramifications for the online community only weeks before the U.S. midterm elections.</p>

<p><strong>There may be a change in command</strong></p>

<p>Cleaning house is expected to be Elon Musk's first action after taking over. He is expected to start with Twitter CEO Agrawal, who took over the role last year after co-founder Jack Dorsey resigned. Despite the fact that the two had initially wanted to cooperate, text exchanges between Musk and his business partners show how unhappy he was with Agrawal's direction.</p>

<p>Long before the tragic Jan. 6 uprising at the U.S. Capitol, Musk declared that his primary priorities would be to protect free speech on Twitter and grant access to the former president Donald Trump.</p>

<p><strong>Less barriers to extremism and false information</strong></p>

<p>Musk could overturn restrictions put in place by Twitter to make the platform safer for users who are more likely to be at risk, such as women, LGBTQ people, and people of colour, such as the prohibition on misgendering transgender persons, in addition to lifting the bans on a number of accounts.</p>

<p><strong>An edit button might be added</strong></p>

<p>As many people had been seeking for years, Musk recently expressed interest in allowing users to edit their tweets. In a survey he conducted in March, roughly 74% of his Twitter followers stated they were in favour of including the edit feature.</p>

<p>Musk bought himself some time on Thursday, after a judge accepted the billionaire's request to halt a Twitter lawsuit to allow him to close his proposed $44 billion buyout of the social media company by Oct. 28.</p>

<p>Now comes the big question: how will he pay for it?</p>

<p>Musk said earlier this week he would buy Twitter for $54.20 per share, the price that was agreed in April, but included a condition that the closing of the deal be contingent on debt financing for the transaction coming through.</p>

<p><strong>What is his financing&nbsp;plan?</strong></p>

<p>For the acquisition, Musk has promised to contribute $46.5 billion in equity and debt funding, covering the transaction's $44 billion price tag and closing costs. A total of 13 billion dollars in debt financing will be provided by banks, including Morgan Stanley and Bank of America Corp., to fund the purchase.</p>

<p>On Thursday, Twitter cited one of the banks as alleging that Musk had not informed them of his plans to conclude the deal. Banks were "working constructively to fund the closing" on or around October 28, according to Musk.</p>

<p>Musk's $33.5 billion equity commitment would include his $9.6% ownership in Twitter, which is worth $4 billion, as well as the $7.1 billion he raised from equity investors, including Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal and co-founder of Oracle Corp. Larry Ellison.</p>

Deal back on: How much will Twitter change after takeover by Elon Musk?

<p>A Delaware judge has decided to halt the lawsuit filed by Twitter against Tesla CEO Elon Musk for non-completion of the proposed $44 billion takeover and order the deal to be completed by October 28. Till the 28th, Judge Kathleen McCormick said that the litigation will temporarily stay halted.</p>

<p>"As a result, there is no need for an expedited trial to order defendants to do what they are already doing and this action is now moot," said the court filing according to AFP.</p>
