<p>Virgin Islands legal staff had failed to hand-deliver the request to&nbsp;Musk&nbsp;or any of his legal representatives, the documents said, and instead requested to be able to pass them on to Tesla lawyers.</p>

<p>A similar document request had been issued in early April to Google co-founder Larry Page.</p>

<p>Epstein was convicted in Florida in 2008 of paying young girls for massages, but served just 13 months in jail under a secret plea deal.</p>

<p>The cyberstalking and computer hacking schemes included gaining unauthorized access to social media accounts on Twitter in July 2020 as well as a TikTok account the next month, as per prosecutors. Along with his co-conspirators, O'Connor stole at least $794,000 worth of cryptocurrency.</p>

<p>O'Connor was arrested nearly two years ago in Spain for the hack. He used the accounts to solicit digital currency, prompting Twitter to prevent some verified accounts from publishing messages for several hours until security could be restored.</p>

Mass layoffs at Twitter: Elon Musk-led company averts discrimination allegations for now

<p>Twitter owner Elon Musk said on Monday that the platform will soon begin removing the accounts that had no activity at all for several years. "So you will probably see follower count drop," Musk added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For years, users on Twitter have complained of either stagnation or a decrease in their follower count. In the past, the social media platform stated that such stagnations or decreases occur due to Twitter's suspension of machine-run profiles (known as bots) and spam accounts.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We are purging accounts that have had no activity at all for several years, so you will probably see follower count drop," Musk wrote on Twitter.</p>

<h2><strong>Twitter policy on inactive accounts</strong></h2>

<p>According to Twitter’s policy, users should log in to their accounts at least once every 30 days to avoid permanent removal due to prolonged inactivity.</p>

<p>Earlier this month, Musk "threatened" to reassign National Public Radio’s Twitter account to another company, after the public broadcaster stopped posting content to its 52 official Twitter feeds in protest against a Twitter label that implied government involvement in its editorial content.</p>

<p>Ever since Elon Musk took over Twitter, the company has been attempting to find new ways to generate revenues. One such avenue was the launch of the Twitter Blue subscription service in November last year. However, nearly six months on, it appears that Twitter Blue might be struggling massively as over half of the early adopters are no longer subscribed to the service.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Musk's version of the subscription service has only been able to convert around 640,000 users into Twitter Blue subscribers as of the end of April, according to a Mashable report.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the more telling statistic is that of nearly 150,000 early Twitter Blue subscribers, only 68,157 have stuck around and maintained the subscription which costs $8 per month ($11 on mobile). Meaning over 80,000 or 54.5 per cent of users had cancelled their subscriptions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The high churn rate (the percentage of users that unsubscribe from a service) of Twitter Blue has surprised domain experts. For an online subscription service, such a rate is abnormally high and one that is not sustainable in the long run. According to a study, the average churn rate for subscription-based businesses stands at around 5.57 per cent.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One of the major reasons for early adopters to not stick around with the service might be Twitter's decision to disable new signups shortly after the launch. Notably, after scammers and pranksters used Twitter Blue to create havoc by changing their names to popular personalities and entities, the company was forced to press pause on the service.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It was only after a mechanism was worked out to avoid such a situation that the service was rolled out again. However, the negative publicity may have irked many who preferred to not renew their subscription, according to experts.&nbsp;</p>

Dr Hinton, 75, was given the Turing Award,&nbsp;the highest honour of computer science, in 2018 for his work on “deep learning”, along with the University of Montreal’s Yoshua Bengio and Meta’s Yann Lecun.<br />

The technology behind the AI revolution has emerged from the efforts of Dr Hinton to understand the human brain. However, the computer scientist may not give the advice that the world leaders want to hear.</p>

“I’m a socialist. I think that private ownership of the media, and of the ‘means of computation’, is not good,” Hinton added.<br />

“If you view what Google is doing in the context of a capitalist system, it’s behaving as responsibly as you could expect it to do. But that doesn’t mean it’s trying to maximise utility for all people: it’s legally obliged to maximise utility for its shareholders, and that’s a very different thing,” he said.<br />

Since Hinton spoke on Monday about the fears of AI which can end the civilisation in 20 years, he has been receiving new requests to talk every two minutes.<br />

However, he has not been able to offer a piece of concrete advice. “I’m not a policy guy. I’m just someone who’s suddenly become aware that there’s a danger of something really bad happening. I wish I had a nice solution, like: ‘Just stop burning carbon, and you’ll be OK.’ But I can’t see a simple solution like that,” he said.<br />

<p>Twitter chief Elon Musk has "threatened" to reassign National Public Radio's Twitter account to another company, the U.S.-based broadcaster said on Tuesday.</p>

<p>Musk suggested that he would reassign the network's main account, under the @NPR handle, to another organization or person, NPR said.</p>

<p>NPR stopped posting content to its 52 official Twitter feeds last month in protest against a Twitter designation that implied government involvement in its editorial content.</p>

<p>Musk, in an email to an NPR reporter, asked about its engagement with Twitter, the public broadcaster said.</p>

<p>"So is NPR going to start posting on Twitter again, or should we reassign @NPR to another company?" NPR quoted Musk as saying.</p>

<p>"Our policy is to recycle handles that are definitively dormant," he said in another email. "Same policy applies to all accounts. No special treatment for NPR."</p>

<p>NPR and Twitter did not immediately respond to a request from Reuters for comment.</p>

<p>PBS and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation followed NPR and stopped posting on Twitter following similar labeling.</p>

NPR stopped posting content to its 52 official Twitter feeds last month in protest against a Twitter designation that implied government involvement in its editorial content. Musk, in an email to an NPR reporter, asked about its engagement with Twitter, the public broadcaster said. "So is NPR going to start posting on Twitter again, or should we reassign @NPR to another company?" NPR quoted Musk as saying. "Our policy is to recycle handles that are definitively dormant," he said in another email. "Same policy applies to all accounts. No special treatment for NPR." NPR and Twitter did not immediately respond to a request from Reuters for comment. According to Twitter's policy, users should log in to their account at least once every 30 days to avoid permanent removal due to prolonged inactivity. PBS and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation followed NPR and stopped posting on Twitter following similar labeling. Twitter later dropped the labels but the outlets that were targeted have not resumed activity, their profiles showed on Tuesday.
