<p>From the moment Polaris landed, the whole San Francisco United Airlines crew took care of him around-the-clock until they were able to obtain authorization to keep him securely in the US, according to Vincent Passafiume, director of the customer service at United.</p>

<p>But everything was about to change for the puppy. The Airlines ensured the 6-month-old German Shepherd met all regulations to enter the United States, including a quarantine period. The airlines selected William Dale, a pilot for United Airlines, from a pool of applicants. Director Passafiume said that it' a great feeling to see this story come full circle and that Polaris will have a loving home with United Airlines Captain Dale and his family — just in time for the holidays. No denying the fact the Santa came little early before Christmas for Polaris.</p>

<p>When the adoption was finalised on December 15, United not only threw a fun celebration at the airport in Polaris's honour but also donated $5,000 to the SF SPCA. "United's Customer Service team took on quite a challenge to ensure Polaris would be safe, healthy, and find a loving home," Lisa Feder, SF SPCA chief of rescue and welfare shared. "I only hope that we can do half as good a job of taking care of him as the United staff did," Capt. Dale shared of his family taking in the pup.</p>

The Millers were eventually shown a picture of Bluebell, who was unhappy in its crate and thousands of miles away. Bluebell was finally returned to the Millers three days later.</p>

<p>They further added,&nbsp;"During her time with us she received refreshments frequently and had time outside to stretch her legs – including regular walks and eight hours with the team at the Heathrow Animal Reception Centre who cared for her. Despite these measures, we understand that this has been an upsetting situation for Bluebell and her owners and remain in contact with them to resolve the situation".&nbsp;</p>

<p>A man who shot Lady Gaga's dogwalker during an attempt to steal the singer's prize French bulldogs was sentenced to 21 years in prison Monday after pleading no contest to attempted murder.&nbsp;</p>

<p>James Howard Jackson and two other men attacked Ryan Fischer on a Hollywood street in February 2021, and after a struggle made off with two of the "Poker Face" singer's three pets that were out for a walk.</p>

<p>Fischer sustained chest injuries in the attack and said on Instagram a month later he had suffered a collapsed lung.</p>

<p>Jackson, 20, entered the no-contest plea after prosecutors agreed to drop further robbery, assault and other charges.</p>

<p>"The plea agreement holds Mr Jackson accountable for perpetrating a cold-hearted violent act and provides justice for our victim," said a statement from the District Attorney's Office.</p>

<p>The two other assailants have already been jailed for their parts in the crime.</p>

<p>Following the incident, Lady Gaga offered a $500,000 reward for the return of dogs Koji and Gustav. A woman who handed in the dogs in response to the reward has been charged with being an accessory after the fact and with receiving stolen goods.</p>

<p>The singer's other bulldog, Miss Asia, was able to evade capture, and ran back to the wounded Fischer's side after the robbers left.</p>

<p>Jackson earlier this year was recaptured after being accidentally released from custody in what officials described as a "clerical error."</p>

<p>Los Angeles police said at the time they did not believe the dogs were targeted because of their owner, but because of the breed's appeal on the black market.</p>

<p>Small and friendly -- and thus easy to grab -- French bulldogs do not have large litters.</p>

<p>Their relative scarcity, and their association with stars such as Lady Gaga, Reese Witherspoon, Hugh Jackman, Chrissy Teigen, Leonardo DiCaprio and Madonna, gives them added cachet and means they can change hands for thousands of dollars.</p>

<p>According to Guinness World Records, the four-pound toy fox terrier passed away on Monday from natural causes just months before her 23rd birthday. Pebbles passed away in the company of her owners, Bobby and Julie Gregory, in their South Carolina home.</p>

<p>In a news release, Julie Gregory said, "She was a once in a lifetime friend, and it was our joy to have had the blessing to have had her as a pet, and family member."</p>

<p><meta name="uuid" content="uuidpSdWMlLigBNf" /><meta charset="utf-8" />From someone who spends most of her free time with dogs and raised and fostered a few of them, this is not advice but conversation. I haven't pursued any course in dog behaviour except listening to professionals and chewing the brains of other dog parents. My knowledge is bestowed by the best dog behaviour professors in the world - dogs themselves.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Fight for them</strong></p>

<p>Having a dog demands ample patience not only towards dogs but hostile humans. You may have to assert your love to your neighbours, relatives and dog-forbid police and courts too. (Bad pun 1).&nbsp;</p>

<p>It is vexing to deal with people who are bent on hurting animals. However, we have to be patient and walk the road less taken with our dogs. (Bad pun 2).&nbsp;</p>

<p>If we don't fight for them, who will? Dogs did test my patience a few times and humans, well, every time. I mean, I am still explaining to people why I love dogs. Why?&nbsp;</p>

<p>Animal abuse is a real problem and the animal rights movement is a real movement. You'll confront several people whose humanity was slain long ago by their arrogance. Don't let anybody or anything convince you that dogs are inferior living beings. Be extremely well-versed with the animal protection laws in India and your rights (they come with responsibilities) as a caretaker of animals. Take help from professionals in this sector whenever required. Your dog shouldn't have to forgo anything to appease people.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Dog is different</strong></p>

<p>Your dog is not biologically your child. They won't adore all your relatives and prance onto their lap. They won't sleep when you do. They won't abide by your diet choices. (Biological children shouldn't be compelled to do these either but I won't digress).&nbsp;</p>

<p>Recognise that your dog won't like many things you do and vice versa because we are two different lives. They get angry, sad, happy, grumpy, moody, defensive or disinterested for their own reasons. They are allowed to have feelings that don't emulate their humans. Their actions and reactions are their willing. Maybe not as sharp as ours but they have a brain as well. As much as they love you, they can't be your child and fulfil your expectations. One more time I see someone rubbing off their human expectations and standards on dogs, I am going to lose my cool. Also, isn't it fantastic that our dogs aren't like us? We certainly aren't in need of more creatures with fake laughs and hidden motives and obsession with money. (Philosophy lesson 101).</p>

<p><strong>Each dog is different</strong></p>

<p>If you are pissed off with the <em>Sharmaji ka Beta</em> comparison, don't expect your dog to replicate another one. Some dogs are exuberated by human presence. They keep pouncing on you until you are tired. They follow you gregariously and play fetch like a pro. They give the perfect poses. Their Instagram has lakhs of followers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>They eat without fuss and sleep on the dog bed. They are good.</p>

<p>If your dog doesn't do these, is he or she inferior to other dogs? No. They are all different just like how you and your overachiever cousin are. While expecting your dog to be something perfect, you are missing his unique personality. Let him be the dog he wants to be. Learn, understand and allow him to show you his true self. Dogs aren't xerox copies of each other. Even in the same breed or among pups of the same litter, each dog is different and so are their needs. There is no one-size-fits-all dog manual. If you genuinely want to be a better dog parent, your dog is the best guide.&nbsp;</p>

<p>You'll both be much better that way than by transforming him into a completely new dog altogether.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Adjusting for the dog</strong></p>

<p>Remember when you pestered your parents for a dog as a kid? And they said you were more than enough for them? They had a point. Getting a dog is not child's play. (Last bad pun).&nbsp;</p>

<p>I assume you've planned everything meticulously and made an adult decision to bring home a dog. You may still be overwhelmed by the responsibility that dawned upon you. You ought to make changes in your lifestyle for the dog and it will be new. But you've got to pull your socks up and out of your dog's mouth. (Are you still counting bad puns?). You might face situations you weren't prepared for. But life is always uncertain, right? (Philosophy lesson 102).&nbsp;</p>

<p>So be sportive and adjust for them. Remember, you got them because you wanted them. The least you can do as the most superior creature on this planet is to be kind. Raising a dog involves effort - physically and mentally. There are going to be days when you are too exhausted or sluggish to put that effort for your dog. But that shouldn't be normalised. If getting a dog was only about buying dog food and taking selfies, every house would have a dog.</p>

<p>Personally, I never knew I could wake up at 6 or spend almost an hour in my apartment parking or jump across muddy pools or shout in the middle of the road until my dogs made me. There's a plethora of awkward stuff I did with my dogs. It'd be better for you to experience it than to read from me.</p>

<p><strong>Breed of the dog&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>If I had a dollar for every time someone suggested me to get a Labrador or Golden Retriever or Pug instead of my indies, I would have bought an island away from everyone. There is nothing special about buying a purebred dog unless you consider prejudice and pomp to be special. My indies are agile, gorgeous, special, quirky, silly, frolicsome and flawless. I wouldn't take it from anyone who breeds dogs as if they were some endangered species.</p>

<p>It would take another article to reveal the horrors of dog breeding. So if you've rescued or adopted a dog, be proud of your choice. Like you flaunted the glittery pencil box in your fourth class as if it was a diamond. The fact that our dogs had an abusive past doesn't make them shameful. It only reflects the horrifying reality for India's homeless dogs. Each time you buy or breed a dog, you deny a rescued dog's last chance at life.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While actively detesting the herd mentality in your life, why would you buy a dog of the breed that your neighbors or friends showed off? While we all love a good lecture on body positivity and acceptance, it is the fluffy, furry puppers that go home while Indie dogs languish. If it is because they have less fur then please note that it is suitable for Indian climate. Indies are adapted to live in India. I never let anybody demean my dogs for not having a fancy name. <p>I know how it feels. I understand that you are still learning and trying to be a better person. I appreciate the effort you are making to give them a better life. You may feel the opposite but believe me when I say you aren't alone. We all have been in your shoes and know that your dog chewed them. (I have a repertoire of bad jokes).&nbsp;</p>

<p>Keep being amused by their goofy antics, continue with the screechy baby talk, let the treats flow in, say sorry when you step on their tail, rant to them about your day, and get anxious about what they are doing at home in your absence and gallop to the vet whenever they need it. Amidst all this, don't forget to hug them and tell them you love them. Because one day, you will miss precisely what makes you tiresome now. Dogs change your life in ways you never thought. Because love is what they want to take and what they know to give.</p>

My knowledge is bestowed by the best dog behaviour professors in the world - dogs themselves. Fight for them Having a dog demands ample patience not only towards dogs but hostile humans. You may have to assert your love to your neighbours, relatives and dog-forbid police and courts too. (Bad pun 1). It is vexing to deal with people who are bent on hurting animals. However, we have to be patient and walk the road less taken with our dogs. (Bad pun 2). If we don't fight for them, who will? Dogs did test my patience a few times and humans, well, every time. I mean, I am still explaining to people why I love dogs. Why? Animal abuse is a real problem and the animal rights movement is a real movement. You'll confront several people whose humanity was slain long ago by their arrogance. Don't let anybody or anything convince you that dogs are inferior living beings. Be extremely well-versed with the animal protection laws in India and your rights (they come with responsibilities) as a caretaker of animals. Take help from professionals in this sector whenever required. Your dog shouldn't have to forgo anything to appease people. Dog is different Your dog is not biologically your child. They won't adore all your relatives and prance onto their lap. They won't sleep when you do. They won't abide by your diet choices. (Biological children shouldn't be compelled to do these either but I won't digress). Recognise that your dog won't like many things you do and vice versa because we are two different lives. They get angry, sad, happy, grumpy, moody, defensive or disinterested for their own reasons. They are allowed to have feelings that don't emulate their humans. Their actions and reactions are their willing. Maybe not as sharp as ours but they have a brain as well. As much as they love you, they can't be your child and fulfil your expectations. One more time I see someone rubbing off their human expectations and standards on dogs, I am going to lose my cool. Also, isn't it fantastic that our dogs aren't like us? We certainly aren't in need of more creatures with fake laughs and hidden motives and obsession with money. (Philosophy lesson 101). Each dog is different If you are pissed off with the Sharmaji ka Beta comparison, don't expect your dog to replicate another one. Some dogs are exuberated by human presence. They keep pouncing on you until you are tired. They follow you gregariously and play fetch like a pro. They give the perfect poses. Their Instagram has lakhs of followers. They eat without fuss and sleep on the dog bed. They are good. If your dog doesn't do these, is he or she inferior to other dogs? No. They are all different just like how you and your overachiever cousin are. While expecting your dog to be something perfect, you are missing his unique personality. Let him be the dog he wants to be. Learn, understand and allow him to show you his true self. Dogs aren't xerox copies of each other. Even in the same breed or among pups of the same litter, each dog is different and so are their needs. There is no one-size-fits-all dog manual. If you genuinely want to be a better dog parent, your dog is the best guide. You'll both be much better that way than by transforming him into a completely new dog altogether. Adjusting for the dog Remember when you pestered your parents for a dog as a kid? And they said you were more than enough for them? They had a point. Getting a dog is not child's play. (Last bad pun). I assume you've planned everything meticulously and made an adult decision to bring home a dog. You may still be overwhelmed by the responsibility that dawned upon you. You ought to make changes in your lifestyle for the dog and it will be new. But you've got to pull your socks up and out of your dog's mouth. (Are you still counting bad puns?). You might face situations you weren't prepared for. But life is always uncertain, right? (Philosophy lesson 102). So be sportive and adjust for them. Remember, you got them because you wanted them. The least you can do as the most superior creature on this planet is to be kind. Raising a dog involves effort - physically and mentally. There are going to be days when you are too exhausted or sluggish to put that effort for your dog. But that shouldn't be normalised. If getting a dog was only about buying dog food and taking selfies, every house would have a dog. Personally, I never knew I could wake up at 6 or spend almost an hour in my apartment parking or jump across muddy pools or shout in the middle of the road until my dogs made me. There's a plethora of awkward stuff I did with my dogs. It'd be better for you to experience it than to read from me. Breed of the dog If I had a dollar for every time someone suggested me to get a Labrador or Golden Retriever or Pug instead of my indies, I would have bought an island away from everyone. There is nothing special about buying a purebred dog unless you consider prejudice and pomp to be special. My indies are agile, gorgeous, special, quirky, silly, frolicsome and flawless. I wouldn't take it from anyone who breeds dogs as if they were some endangered species. It would take another article to reveal the horrors of dog breeding. So if you've rescued or adopted a dog, be proud of your choice. Like you flaunted the glittery pencil box in your fourth class as if it was a diamond. The fact that our dogs had an abusive past doesn't make them shameful. It only reflects the horrifying reality for India's homeless dogs. Each time you buy or breed a dog, you deny a rescued dog's last chance at life. While actively detesting the herd mentality in your life, why would you buy a dog of the breed that your neighbors or friends showed off? While we all love a good lecture on body positivity and acceptance, it is the fluffy, furry puppers that go home while Indie dogs languish. If it is because they have less fur then please note that it is suitable for Indian climate. Indies are adapted to live in India. I never let anybody demean my dogs for not having a fancy name. <p>A dog miraculously survived being shot in the head after fleeing his breeding farm and going missing in the US. The Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PSPCA) shared photos of the corgi named Arthur, on Instagram and shared the dog's story in the caption.</p>

<p>"Arthur is fortunate to be alive. That is not an exaggeration," PSPCA said in the post. Arthur was discovered crawling under a fence in the rural town of New Holland, Lancaster County, according to the organization.</p>

<p>Initially, the property owners told PSPCA that the fence caused the injured dog's head wound. Vets later determined that he had been shot between the eyes and left for dead.</p>

I signalled him to get up but he didn’t budge. I moved near to him and he pounced, combining indignation and fear. I somehow escaped being scratched or bit by him. His aggression wasn’t for no reason – he was thrown out of a car by his ‘family.’ The people around him attempted feeding rice and biscuits but we all ended in the same situation. I don’t know the reason for people’s affinity and pity towards Milky. Was it his Indian Spitz Mix breed? Was it because he was a white and fluffy dog, unlike the Indies that are despised for their appearance? I will never know.</p>

<p>As I went home having achieved nothing, I knew it would be a tough road ahead. For him, accepting the dismal reality and for me, to mend his broken trust on our species. My futile attempts to feed Milky continued.</p>

<p>It was only after almost a month that Milky was eating what I gave. That one month or more was all about me hoping for a miracle and Milky constantly irritated by a bugging human presence. He didn’t want to eat anything from anyone. However, the truths can’t be changed; one, he was a good boy and two, he was hungry. He wasn’t a dog that knew where to sniff for food. He didn’t know which human would hurl a stone and which would befriend. After a long and demanding checking process, he categorised me into the latter. But that was the beginning of a new problem for me. Milky was trusting me. He began following me, a highly typical dog trait. Each time I vanished from his sight and watched him slog back (or scamper himself away from my street dogs) it was heart-breaking. He was nothing but a little child looking for love. How would I tell him that I was not like his ex-family and he would never have one?</p>

<p>Nevertheless, like I have mentioned above, the people in his street weren’t hostile to him like we are, in general, to the street dogs. As they observed that his aggression reduced, they were feeding him. I slowly inculcated it in him that he should follow me for a few steps unless he desired an ugly brawl with my desi dogs. It took him time but he grasped.</p>

<p>After a few months, we were playing with my each other – I was allowed to rub his fur, feed him and he, to run to me, jump and follow. I would reiterate on how we gave him the time he needed and never, ever forced intimacy or friendship. I couldn’t do anything to pacify his mental ordeal. I was only bringing him food. To believe that food is the only thing a dog needs is shallow and ridiculous.</p>

<p>Fast forward to today, his tyranny made him the only dog of his street, sparing one female. He gets an appreciable choice of foods, ranging from mutton (courtesy a nearby mutton shop) to biscuits and anything his neighbours give to dog food (from me). The brat broke multiple food and water bowls. He changed about four collars, never being without one. He occasionally gets baths and dazzles like the teeth in a toothpaste commercial for almost a day (post which, he deliberately rolls in mud). He once grappled with a few desi dogs and ended up with a dog bite on his neck. His neighbours got him treated on the spot and mollycoddled him for a few days. He healed in no time. Now, he tactically chases away any intruders without physical harm. He still gets to decide when he will play with me and how. Sometimes, he runs over and leaps on me while the other times, he prefers his nap over a screechy human voice and a phone flash. He casually ignores the curd rice kept for him like you did, in your school lunch box. (The only difference being, he isn’t scolded).</p>

<p>In course of my working with animals (in individual capacity), I have come across tens of animals abandoned by their ‘owners’ without remorse. To do so is detrimental at many levels – these dogs undoubtedly get into trouble with the local indies and stand minimal chance. They would encounter hunger, thirst, ruthless weather and abusive humans; none of which they were prepared for. In simple words, not every dog is as fortunate as Milky to find a street without dogs and people without ego. They would contribute to the existing number of homeless animals on the streets.</p>

<p>A simple news search on the internet would reveal the magnitude of this problem. NGOs are overburdened with the number of street dogs needing attention. In that case, it would not only be difficult but also unfair to expect them to tend to our pets too. The reasons people give for why they abandoned their companion animal are so bizarre, I would rather discuss them separately.</p>

<p>Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 (PCA), criminalises the owner failing to provide the animal with sufficient food, water and shelter; abandoning without reasonable cause; permits the diseased or disabled animal to di in any street without reasonable cause.</p>

<p>In the rare event of the family having a reasonable cause why they cannot keep the pet anymore, they should behave like family i.e., find another responsible and better home for their animal. Leaving them on the roads is not only a deliberate act of animal cruelty but also a sign of inhumanity.</p>

<p>Milky is a strong dog. He coped up with what could crumple and kill. He has a lion’s heart, a baby’s mischief and the moon’s lustre. Of course, every dog does. It has been established ages ago that a dog is man’s best friend and a symbol of undying faith. We don’t have to now test their resilience by leaving them on the road after promising a forever. Because, there is a famous saying that a dog may manage with lesser food, lesser shelter and lesser care but not without you. Milky will never know why he, a good boy, was left mercilessly. It took him a mountain of courage to trust yet another human. No dog should ever have to go through what he did.</p>

Abandoning your pet is illegal and inhumane

<p>A dog is truly a man's best friend. And this pure affection does not go away even after his owner's death. A heartbreaking story has come from earthquake-struck Afghanistan. Samira SR, an advocacy and communications professional working with International Rescue Committee has shared a story that's sure to bring tears to our eyes.</p>

<p>What she has tweeted is a picture of a small, furry dog. We may take the dog to be just another 'cute' picture doing rounds on social media if not for the emotion of utter devastation in his eyes. The dog is surrounded by rubble of what must have been a house. To be specific, it is his departed owner's house. The recent earthquake sadly killed all members of the family of his owner. They are long gone but the dog is not ready to accept this.</p>

<p>According to Samira, the dog comes to the destroyed house everyday and cries because it can't see the familiar faces which, till last week, smiled warmly at him. The dog is now being taken care of by neighbours of the departed family. But the loyal dog still searches the rubble, clinging on the hope that he'll see his loved ones anytime. This sadly will never happen.</p>

<p>In the US state of Missouri, a bizarre incident was caught on camera when a dog accidentally started a major fire, that cause considerable damage to a house in Parkville.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The incident was caught on the CCTV camera as the dog can be seen accidentally turning on the stove. The dog pressed its paw against a touch activation button that led to an accident in the Riss Lake neighbourhood.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The accident took place when the owners were not at home and media reports have mentioned that the dog was rescued by the firefighters.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Southern Platte Fire Protection District shared the clip which acted as an apparent warning to those who leave their pets behind when they go outside for jobs, travel, shopping, etc.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the video, the dog can be seen searching for food in the kitchen area. The pup&nbsp;accidentally turned the stove on while sniffing at a pan of grease which was kept over the hob.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Thankfully, he found no food and moved away from that area, as in the video it can be seen that the fire was spread when he stepped out of the kitchen area.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Scientists claimed to have discovered the exact reason how dogs became man’s best friend—the answer lies in the genes.</p>

<p>It has historically been argued that the domestication of dogs was an evolutionary process that started with the wolves about 33,000 years ago somewhere in Southeast Asia.</p>

<p>But a study suggests that dogs have a special gene that lowers their stress, making them more relaxed around people. The research says that this enabled a special relationship to develop between a man and a dog.</p>

<p>The Japanese researchers said that dogs carry two mutations of a gene known as MC2R (melanocortin 2 receptor), Newsweek reported.</p>

<p>This gene produces the hormone cortisol, nature's built-in alarm system which is released during fear or anxiety.</p>

<p>Co-author of the&nbsp;study, Professor Miho Nagasawa of Azabu University, was quoted as saying, "These findings imply MC2R played a role in the domestication of dogs, perhaps by promoting lower levels of stress around humans."</p>

<p>Nagasawa and colleagues investigated the interactions of 624 domestic dogs using two tasks.</p>

<p>In the first, the dog had to decide which bowl had food hidden under it based on cues, such as gazing, pointing and tapping. This experiment tested the animal’s understanding of human gestures and communication.</p>

<p>While the second looked at the social attachment to humans.</p>

<p>The dogs were given a problem-solving test, which involved them attempting to open a container in order to access food. The main of the study was to measure how often and long the dog spent looking at the researchers.</p>

<p>The dogs were separated into two groups depending on their breed – the ancient group (consisting of breeds considered genetically closer to wolves such as the Akita and Siberian Husky) and the general group (all other breeds which are more genetically distant from wolves).</p>

<p>The study found out that the dogs in the ancient group looked at the researchers less often than other dogs during the problem-solving task, suggesting that they were less attached to humans.</p>

<p>The researchers found there were no significant differences between the breeds in the first task.</p>

Nagasawa and colleagues investigated the interactions of 624 domestic dogs using two tasks. In the first, the dog had to decide which bowl had food hidden under it based on cues, such as gazing, pointing and tapping. This experiment tested the animal’s understanding of human gestures and communication. While the second looked at the social attachment to humans. The dogs were given a problem-solving test, which involved them attempting to open a container in order to access food. The main of the study was to measure how often and long the dog spent looking at the researchers. The dogs were separated into two groups depending on their breed – the ancient group (consisting of breeds considered genetically closer to wolves such as the Akita and Siberian Husky) and the general group (all other breeds which are more genetically distant from wolves). The study found out that the dogs in the ancient group looked at the researchers less often than other dogs during the problem-solving task, suggesting that they were less attached to humans. These people have no devotion, they come here only to shoot reels and videos with Bollywood songs playing in the background. It gets in the way of pilgrims who come to seek the blessings of Baba Kedarnath."</p>

<p>The incident has raised questions about YouTubers, vloggers and influencers shooting their videos in places of worship, with a senior police officer at Kedarnath commenting that they cause difficulties in security arrangements and also disrupt the journey of other pilgrims.</p>

<p data-changed="false" data-paragraphid="26">The incident reportedly occurred on March 27. A complaint was lodged with the district authorities on Monday after a villager alerted an NGO in Hyderabad.</p>

<p data-changed="false" data-paragraphid="27">Goutham Kumar, an activist, lodged a complaint with the Siddipet Collector and Siddipet Commissioner of Police, seeking a probe and booking of cases against those responsible.</p>

<p data-changed="false" data-paragraphid="28">According to the complainant, the mass killing came to light after they received information about the death of a six-year-old pet dog. When the activist went to the village to find out the reasons, he found that the pet dog was poisoned along with stray dogs. He learnt about the mass killings of strays, and this was confirmed by locals.</p>

<p data-changed="false" data-paragraphid="29">The carcasses were dumped into an old well in the village. The villagers also told the activist that some 200 stray dogs had been killed in the last three months.</p>

<p data-changed="false" data-paragraphid="30">After the local police did not respond to the complaint against the village officials, the activist approached the district collector and Superintendent of Police, who assured him they would look into it.</p>

<p>She observed that her dog, Olive, drools a lot and usually that saliva drips on the floor. However, since Olive was wearing a cone, the saliva funnelled down from the cone to her neck.</p>

While the furry kid was asleep, the bacteria consumed all of the oxygen from the neck area that "prevented the red staining typically associated with dog saliva. Instead, green rust formed!," Olson detailed. "And the staining along her neck transitioned from rusty red on her chin to rusty green thanks to the combination of her unusually moist neck environment and sustained isolation from oxygen in the air—both symptoms of the cone."</p>

Then there were swabs taken from their pet cats and dogs to test for evidence of a current infection. The blood samples were also tested for antibodies.
