In the world of cricket, umpire's soft-signal call has stirred up a couple of controversies lately. While the debate started during the fourth T20I between India and England when a catch by Dawid Malan to dismiss Suryakumar Yadav&nbsp;caught the eyes of fans and pundits, the soft-signal controversy&nbsp;was again up for debates during the second ODI between Bangladesh and New Zealand after a close catch by bowler Kyle Jamieson.&nbsp;

Jamieson bowled a fuller delivery to Bangladesh batsman Tamim Iqbal who fired the shot straight back to the Kiwi pacer.&nbsp;It looked like Jamieson&nbsp;had taken a clean catch just inches off the ground.&nbsp;While the on-field umpire Chris Brown gave the soft-signal as out, the decision was referred to the third umpire in a bid to have a closer look at it.

The third-umpire Wayne Knights&nbsp;went on to check multiple angles and replays suggested that Jamieson wasn't in complete control of the ball as it touched the pitch before the Kiwi pacer tumbled to the ground.&nbsp;

The third-umpire reversed the decision with Jamieson looking upset with the decision. Even his New Zealand team-mates looked visibly upset with the call.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NZ vs BAN: Soft-signal overturned as Kyle Jamieson's 'catch' triggers controversy - Watch

Rahkeem Cornwall blasted a maiden Test half-century and dominated an eighth-wicket partnership of 90 with Joshua da Silva to lift the West Indies to 268 for eight in their first innings, a lead of 99 runs, at the close of the second day of the first Test at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Monday.

Outstanding seam bowling by Suranga Lakmal, who claimed his fourth five-wicket innings haul in 64 Tests, had restricted the home side to 171 for seven just after tea in reply to the tourists’ modest first-day effort of 169.

However, the burly Cornwall, selected primarily for his off-spin bowling but also well-known for his powerful hitting in the domestic game, joined wicketkeeper-batsman da Silva in first resisting the best efforts of the Sri Lankan bowlers before opening into an array of expansive strokes upon the arrival of the second new ball.

His unbeaten 60 has come of 79 balls with two sixes and nine fours embellishing an entertaining innings.

Da Silva, who is already building a reputation in his young international career for featuring in useful lower-order partnerships, was within sight of his second Test half-century when he fell for 46 just minutes before the close of play, caught behind off fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera attempting to ride a lifting delivery over the slip cordon.

“I needed to get some runs because I haven’t been showing the best I can do with the bat so far,” said Cornwall in reflecting on his innings. “I think we are in a very good position at this stage of the match. We need to come tomorrow and try and make the most of the first hour, then we can set up the match by having something to run at them in the second innings.”

Such a healthy advantage seemed out of the realms of possibility with Lakmal in full flow on the way to outstanding figures of five for 45 off 24 accurate overs.

When he dismissed Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph in quick succession after tea to complete the five-wicket haul, the Sri Lankans may have even entertained the prospect of erasing a minimal first innings deficit before the end of the day.

But their enthusiasm gradually ebbed away as the runs flowed and they now face a challenging prospect on the third day to mount the sort of second innings rearguard that has been almost non-existent on a miserable run which has seen them lose their last four Test matches.

There were only smiles on the Sri Lankans’ faces though at the start of the day when Lakmal prised out West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite without any addition to the overnight total.

He returned on a scorching afternoon to bowl Jermaine Blackwood cheaply through the gate off the inside-edge and then account for the dangerous Kyle Mayers for 45 via a second slip catch by Dhananjaya de Silva.

Mayers had punctuated long periods of virtual strokelessness with exciting power-hitting, striking six fours and two sixes in his innings before the experienced seamer got the better of him.

John Campbell played an unusually obdurate knock of 42, the left-handed opening batsman occupying 148 deliveries in getting to 42 before becoming Chameera’s first wicket of the day, although he should have dismissed Nkrumah Bonner in the pre-lunch period when the batsman’s edge to third slip was negated by a no-ball.

Campbell and Bonner put on 56 for the second wicket following Brathwaite’s demise, but they needed other moments of good fortune to survive against a persistent and varied bowling attack.

“Man of the Series” in his debut campaign in Bangladesh a month earlier, Bonner eventually fell for 31 just before lunch, adjudged leg-before when he missed an attempted pull to a short ball from left-arm spinner Lasith Embuldeniya.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli has played some eye-catching knocks recently but it has been more than a year since the swashbuckling batsman scored a century in international cricket. Kohli will be eyeing records held by&nbsp;Sachin&nbsp;Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting when he takes the field for the three-match ODI series against England, starting Tuesday in Pune.&nbsp;&nbsp;

If Kohli goes on to end his century drought and score a ton against England in the three-ODI series then the Indian skipper will overtake Tendulkar's record of&nbsp;most&nbsp;number of centuries scored on home soil by an Indian batsman in ODI cricket.&nbsp;

A century by Kohli in the ODI series will also help him topple Ponting's feat of scoring most centuries scored as captain. Both Ponting and Kohli are currently tied at 22 centuries as captains in international cricket.&nbsp;

IND vs ENG ODIs: Virat Kohli eyes Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting's elusive records

Lancashire Cricket on Monday announced the overseas signing of Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer for the 2021 Royal London Cup. Iyer will be playing for Lancashire in the month-long group stage of Royal London Cup 2021 and will arrive at the Old Trafford in Manchester on&nbsp;July 15.&nbsp;

Iyer's signing continues Lancashire's long association with Indian cricket with the likes of Farokh Engineer, Murali Kartik, Dinesh Mongia, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly having played for the club in past.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Notably, Lancashire Cricket also became the first-ever English County club to have hosted a pre-season training camp in Mumbai in 2020.&nbsp;

Speaking after agreeing to join Lancashire for the 2021 Royal London Cup, Shreyas said: “Lancashire is a legendary name in English Cricket with a long-standing association with Indian Cricket. I am extremely humbled and&nbsp;honoured&nbsp;to carry the legacy forward of greats like Farokh Engineer, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman at Lancashire.&nbsp;

“Emirates Old Trafford is a world-class international stadium and I am looking forward to meeting my teammates and the supporters of the Club.”&nbsp;

“Shreyas has experience of captaining in an IPL final as well as playing in top-level international fixtures, so his on-field skills, and ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations, will serve our young squad well this summer.&nbsp;

“His current form against England has been hugely impressive and we’re looking forward to welcoming him to Lancashire Cricket and Emirates Old Trafford later this summer.&nbsp;

India's Shreyas Iyer signs for English County club Lancashire

Virat Kohli on Monday explained why he will be opening the batting for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Kohli had opened the batting with Rohit Sharma in the fifth T20I against England in Ahmedabad as the duo stitched a 94-run partnership to put India in a strong position. India went on to defeat England to seal the T20I series 3-2 and the Men in Blue would be hoping to carry the good run of form in the ODIs against England, commencing Tuesday in Pune.&nbsp;

In IPL 2016, Kohli had opened the batting for RCB and ended up having his best-ever season in the T20 tournament.&nbsp;He had amassed 973 runs in 16 games at an average of 81.08 and a strike rate of 152.03. However, since then the swashbuckling batsman has continued to bat at number three&nbsp;in the cash-rich tournament.

"Firstly, the combination that plays on the field, the selectors do not have any role in that just like the management does not have any role in who gets selected. Secondly, as Rohit mentioned it was a strategic move, but we did enjoy batting together in the last T20I. We did enjoy our partnership and we saw the effects of us batting together and knowing what we can do to the opposition if we bat throughout. It is not a guarantee that it is going to be continued in the future," said Virat during a virtual press conference on Monday.&nbsp;

Kohli further said that he will open in IPL to understand his role as an opener while opening up a slot for in-form batsman Suryakumar Yadav.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"I am going to open in the IPL to keep all options open. I have batted at three, four and now I need to understand my role as an opener which I have done successfully in the past in T20 cricket so that I provide an option to open up a slot for someone like Surya, if he can continue to bat like that, I should be open to playing any kind of role that the team requires me to. We will have a conversation about this when we get closer to the T20 World Cup. It would be interesting to see how I go about my job as an opener in the IPL,"&nbsp;the Indian skipper added.&nbsp;

When asked whether ODIs have come out of nowhere in the year where the side is preparing for the T20 World Cup, Kohli said: "Look, it is a difficult one. Scheduling is something that is not in our control. For us, in international games, every game is important and every game has value. It is an opportunity to represent your team and for us, that remains the sole focus. Yes, along the way as I have said in the past, scheduling and workload are something everyone will be very aware of. In today's day and age, you never know when restrictions are going to come in and even in the future, you might have to continue playing in bubbles.&nbsp;

"It is important to consider how much cricket you are playing, it is just not about the physical side of things, it is mental side as well. Players need to be spoken to and consulted with all around. Otherwise, it is going to be a case of whoever can last plays and if not, some other player replaces that person and I do not think it is healthy for cricket system and culture going forward," said Kohli.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Kohli confirmed that vice-captain Rohit Sharma will be opening with Shikhar Dhawan in the three-match ODI series while also heaping praise on the duo for their&nbsp;consistency over the&nbsp;past few years.&nbsp;

"Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma will definitely open. When it comes to ODI, there are no doubts about that. They've been amazing over the past few years,” Kohli said in the pre-match&nbsp;press conference on Monday.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Kohli was seen pairing up with Rohit as India's openers in the fifth T20I against England in Ahmedabad. "As Rohit mentioned, it was a strategic move but we enjoyed batting together and we saw the effects of batting together. It's not a guarantee that this is going to continue in the future. I am going to open in the IPL to keep all options,” Kohli said.&nbsp;

England captain Eoin Morgan on Monday said that the medical team would&nbsp;decide whether express speedster Jofra Archer would return to India to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, scheduled to start on April 9. Archer's elbow injury means that the pacer will miss the three-match ODI series against India with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) also ruling Archer out of the initial phase of IPL 2021.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"To be honest, I cannot give a medical opinion. We know the situation with his elbow, it has progressively gotten worse. We know that it needs investigation, only time will tell. He has given his heart and soul to us since he has been involved so we will give him full attention in order to try and bring the best result possible," said Morgan during a virtual press conference&nbsp;on Monday.&nbsp;

"It all depends on the outcome of the investigation that the medical team will do (Archer's return to India for IPL 2021). They will determine the best rehabilitation&nbsp;programme&nbsp;coming back and we will go from there. We fully trust our medical&nbsp;team,&nbsp;they have outstanding regarding player welfare and player rehabilitation. The trust is always there," he added.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Archer is returning to the UK for further investigation of his right elbow injury. According to Morgan, Archer's elbow injury aggravated over the course of the five-T20I series against India.&nbsp;

The England captain further said that the management didn't consider resting ace all-rounder Ben Stokes for the ODI&nbsp;series.&nbsp;

"Obviously, we have looked at various periods of rest for Ben. This isn't one of them, it would be when we get home potentially during this summer. It is dependent on circumstances regarding bio-secure bubbles and how often he sees his family.&nbsp;&nbsp;

'It all depends on...': Eoin Morgan provides update on Jofra Archer's chances of playing in IPL 2021

One of the biggest positives for the Indian cricket team from the recently concluded five-match T20I series against England has been the comeback of Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The veteran seamer, returning back to the team after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury, not only bowled some fantastic spells but also&nbsp;helped India win the final match to clinch the series 3-2.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir has lauded skipper Virat Kohli for&nbsp;handling Bhuvneshwar Kumar to perfection while also heaping praise for giving the ball to the veteran seamer in the 13th&nbsp;over of the match – one which changed the course of the run-chase by England.&nbsp;

India ended up scoring a massive 224/8 in 20 overs in the fifth T20I at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While Bhuvneshwar started the rout, with the ball, by dismissing Jason Roy in the first over, the 130-run partnership between Jos Buttler and Dawid Malan kept everyone at the edge of their seats.&nbsp;

Kohli handed over the ball to&nbsp;Bhuvneswar&nbsp;in the 13th&nbsp;over and the veteran seamer started to set up Buttler with some slower ones before the England batsman skied it in the fifth ball of the match. England's run-chase derailed after Buttler's dismissal as the visitors conceded the match by 36 runs.&nbsp;

"It was an unbelievable over. And good captaincy from Virat Kohli as well to bring him on in the 13th over. Because the run chase was absolutely on. He can just mix up his deliveries," Gambhir&nbsp;told&nbsp;ESPNCricinfo.&nbsp;

"I remember one reverse sweep which Jos Buttler missed, it was just a quicker one, and a yorker, and one wide outside the off-stump. He used all the variations he had to the best of his abilities, and it was the turning point of the game," Gambhir added.&nbsp;

The former India batsman further explained&nbsp;why&nbsp;Bhuvneshwar&nbsp;is so successful with the new ball.&nbsp;

"I think it's difficult to play swing bowlers as compared to seam bowlers in T20 cricket. Because with seam bowlers you can actually see the line and hit through the line. But if its swinging both ways, you would have to wait a little longer. And that is why Bhuvneshwar Kumar is so dangerous with the new ball. He can swing the ball both ways," he said.&nbsp;

"Bhuvneshwar Kumar is very, very important to the team. There will always be times when we will discuss Jasprit&nbsp;Bumrah, and Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli, because of their flamboyance and stuff. But there are people like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who are very useful and always go under the radar. But these are just as important as these guys.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"Look at what he did today (in 5th T20I). It was unbelievable on a wicket where more than 400 runs were scored. When he started, everyone said he is just a new-ball bowler. But he has developed as a great death bowler as well. Imagine Jasprit&nbsp;Bumrah&nbsp;and Bhuvneshwar bowling together in the death overs," Gambhir pointed out.&nbsp;

"I always believe these guys who go under the radar should always be given appreciation for their contribution. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is one of the great assets to Indian cricket. He can't bowl at 145kph, but he has other abilities and he uses it to the best of his abilities," he signed off.&nbsp;

Harmanpreet Kaur ruled out of 1st T20I vs South Africa, Smriti Mandhana to lead

Technology&nbsp;was introduced in the world of sports to cut-off human errors&nbsp;and take the pressure off the officials. While the goal-line technology in football and ultra-edge&nbsp;in cricket have helped the referees and umpires massively&nbsp;in&nbsp;marginal calls, the implementation of VAR (football) and Decision Review System (cricket) have left the fans&nbsp;with more questions&nbsp;than answers about both sports.&nbsp;

In football, fans and players have witnessed crucial goals ruled out due to off-sides wherein&nbsp;the VAR decided to take the edge of the boots, arm-pits and whatnot,&nbsp;into account.&nbsp;In cricket, there have been debates on 'umpire's call’ and 'soft signals'.&nbsp;&nbsp;

According to ICC, "soft signal is the visual communication by the bowler's end umpire to the third umpire (accompanied by additional information via two-way radio where necessary) of his/her initial on-field decision prior to initiating an Umpire Review."&nbsp;

In 2018, Steve Smith suffered a controversial dismissal during the third ODI against England in Sydney after Jos Buttler claimed a low catch off Mark Wood. The then-Australian captain didn't mince his words&nbsp;as he said he's not a big fan of the soft signal.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"I'm not sure I'm a big fan of the ruling with the soft signal. That's obviously the ruling at the moment and it's hard to overturn anything," Smith&nbsp;had&nbsp;said.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"We've seen a few this summer that have been pretty similar and if the fielder goes up and actually&nbsp;celebrates,&nbsp;they usually get given out and if you're a bit apprehensive of what's&nbsp;happened,&nbsp;they normally get given not out.&nbsp;It's hard for them to overturn the decision. I'd actually like for the third umpire to have to make the decision whether it's out or not. Just them having to do it, if that makes sense."&nbsp;

Skip to 2021, the cricketing&nbsp;world witnessed a similar incident when Suryakumar Yadav lapped the ball to deep square-leg as Dawid Malan appeared to have plucked a stunner. The on-field umpires discussed and referred the decision to the third-umpire while giving the 'soft-signal' as out. The slow-motion replays suggested that the ball had touched the ground in between Malan's fingers.&nbsp;&nbsp;

However, the third-umpire, after checking a couple of angles, said that there was no conclusive evidence to overturn the on-field call. Suryakumar Yadav departed after a blistering knock but at a time when his knock should have become the talking point, fans and pundits debated the controversial call.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<img alt="Dawid Malan catch" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="a7fc0cbb-e224-413a-a7b0-0a98761d403b" src="//cdn.wionews.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/Malan.JPG" />

Indian skipper Virat Kohli, during the post-match presentation, asked why can't&nbsp;there&nbsp;be an&nbsp;'I don't know' call from the on-field umpire. Kohli had a fair point as the on-field umpire was standing approximately 60-70&nbsp;metres&nbsp;away from the point where the catch by Malan was taken&nbsp;and it is humanly impossible to spot a close catch from that distance.&nbsp;

“There was an instance during the Test series when I was next to Jinks and he clearly caught the ball but he wasn't sure so we went upstairs. If it is a half and half effort and the fielder is in doubt, there is no way the umpire from the square leg can see it clearly. The soft signal becomes that important and it becomes tricky,” Kohli quipped.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

“I don't know why there can't be an 'I don't know' call with the umpires as well. It is similar to the umpire's call as well. These are decisions that can change the course of the game, especially in these big games. We were on the receiving side today, and tomorrow it could be some other team. You want these ironed out and keep the game really simple and linear. It isn't ideal in high-pressure games and we want a lot of clarity on the field,” the Indian captain added.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Everyone agrees that umpiring (in cricket) and refereeing (in football) is tough ask for a human body and eye. And that is why technology has been introduced – to cut-off the human errors and to&nbsp;ease the pressure off the umpires. But as things stand, the usage of technology is complicating the game more than ever.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The&nbsp;fingers are not pointed towards the umpires here, the simple question being asked is if the players and officials are adapting to technology then why can't the rules be tweaked to make the implementation of technology much easier and less complicated.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<img alt="Suryakumar Yadav out" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="66a81946-20b0-4a72-a9cc-e0f427472332" src="//cdn.wionews.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/000_96A6MB.jpg" />

It is not something that the MCC – the guardian of the Laws of the game - hasn't discussed at all. In early 2021, the MCC&nbsp;World Cricket committee&nbsp;had discussed changes to 'soft signals’&nbsp;for catches taken outside the 30-yard circle, albeit with no conclusion.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“The committee felt that the soft-signal system worked well for catches within the 30-yard fielding circle, but that catches near the boundary often left the umpires unsighted. It was proposed that, for such catches, the on-field umpires could give an ‘unsighted’ instruction to the TV umpire, rather than the more explicit soft-signal of Out or Not out,” the&nbsp;MCC statement&nbsp;read.&nbsp;

Football fans have already been infuriated by the VAR and some of the marginal (read controversial) calls taken for off-sides and hand-balls. So much so that there have been calls to dismantle the VAR and go back to the basics.&nbsp;&nbsp;

For cricket, while there is a fair shout that technology isn't 100 per cent fool-proof when it comes to ball-tracking and LBW calls with 'umpire's call' coming into the play, 'soft-signal'&nbsp;for tight catches is simply ruining the fun and diverting the attention from the cricketing action itself.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The term 'soft-signal' consists of the word 'soft' but as the laws are designed, it is definitely making&nbsp;life&nbsp;'hard'&nbsp;for the officials. Neither it is giving the on-field umpires the power to make a one-time call nor it is providing the third umpire with the power to counter the decision&nbsp;with all the technology in the world available.&nbsp;&nbsp;

At a time when players are adapting to technology, it is high time for the guardians of&nbsp;Law to adapt to it as well. The world is evolving and so is cricket. At a time when the gentlemen's game is gaining the eyeballs of more countries, it is in everyone's best interest that the rules are kept as simple as possible.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The rules need to be tweaked now or it could result in ICC World Cup 2019 final-like incident&nbsp;where the match was decided on 'boundary count’ - a rule that was scrapped after a couple of months.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The question remains, will the MCC&nbsp;World Cricket committee act now or will it wait for another World Cup '19 final like incident to happen?&nbsp;Remember, technology was introduced to make life simpler not to make it even more complicated.&nbsp;

Technology was introduced in the world of sports to cut-off human errors and take the pressure off the officials. While the goal-line technology in football and ultra-edge in cricket have helped the referees and umpires massively in marginal calls, the implementation of VAR (football) and Decision Review System (cricket) have left the fans with more questions than answers about both sports.

In football, fans and players have witnessed crucial goals ruled out due to off-sides wherein the VAR decided to take the edge of the boots, arm-pits and whatnot, into account. In cricket, there have been debates on 'umpire's call’ and 'soft signals'. According to ICC, "soft signal is the visual communication by the bowler's end umpire to the third umpire (accompanied by additional information via two-way radio where necessary) of his/her initial on-field decision prior to initiating an Umpire Review." In 2018, Steve Smith suffered a controversial dismissal during the third ODI against England in Sydney after Jos Buttler claimed a low catch off Mark Wood. The then-Australian captain didn't mince his words as he said he's not a big fan of the soft signal. "I'm not sure I'm a big fan of the ruling with the soft signal. That's obviously the ruling at the moment and it's hard to overturn anything," Smith had said. "We've seen a few this summer that have been pretty similar and if the fielder goes up and actually celebrates, they usually get given out and if you're a bit apprehensive of what's happened, they normally get given not out. It's hard for them to overturn the decision. I'd actually like for the third umpire to have to make the decision whether it's out or not. Just them having to do it, if that makes sense." ALSO READ: Exclusive: England favourites to win T20 World Cup but don't rule out India - Ryan Sidebottom Skip to 2021, the cricketing world witnessed a similar incident when Suryakumar Yadav lapped the ball to deep square-leg as Dawid Malan appeared to have plucked a stunner. The on-field umpires discussed and referred the decision to the third-umpire while giving the 'soft-signal' as out. The slow-motion replays suggested that the ball had touched the ground in between Malan's fingers. However, the third-umpire, after checking a couple of angles, said that there was no conclusive evidence to overturn the on-field call. Suryakumar Yadav departed after a blistering knock but at a time when his knock should have become the talking point, fans and pundits debated the controversial call. Indian skipper Virat Kohli, during the post-match presentation, asked why can't there be an 'I don't know' call from the on-field umpire. Kohli had a fair point as the on-field umpire was standing approximately 60-70 metres away from the point where the catch by Malan was taken and it is humanly impossible to spot a close catch from that distance. “There was an instance during the Test series when I was next to Jinks and he clearly caught the ball but he wasn't sure so we went upstairs. If it is a half and half effort and the fielder is in doubt, there is no way the umpire from the square leg can see it clearly. The soft signal becomes that important and it becomes tricky,” Kohli quipped. “I don't know why there can't be an 'I don't know' call with the umpires as well. It is similar to the umpire's call as well. These are decisions that can change the course of the game, especially in these big games. We were on the receiving side today, and tomorrow it could be some other team. You want these ironed out and keep the game really simple and linear. It isn't ideal in high-pressure games and we want a lot of clarity on the field,” the Indian captain added. How can this be out. When you are not sure whether the ball was taken cleanly after watching so many replays using top class technology and still go by the soft signal given by the on-field umpire. I think this rule needs to be revisited and changed. #INDvsENG pic.twitter.com/b5XMdH8qEz — VVS Laxman (@VVSLaxman281) March 18, 2021 × ALSO READ: To officiate in T20 World Cup and Ashes is my next target: Nitin Menon to WION Everyone agrees that umpiring (in cricket) and refereeing (in football) is tough ask for a human body and eye. And that is why technology has been introduced – to cut-off the human errors and to ease the pressure off the umpires. But as things stand, the usage of technology is complicating the game more than ever. The fingers are not pointed towards the umpires here, the simple question being asked is if the players and officials are adapting to technology then why can't the rules be tweaked to make the implementation of technology much easier and less complicated. It is not something that the MCC – the guardian of the Laws of the game - hasn't discussed at all. In early 2021, the MCC World Cricket committee had discussed changes to 'soft signals’ for catches taken outside the 30-yard circle, albeit with no conclusion. “The committee felt that the soft-signal system worked well for catches within the 30-yard fielding circle, but that catches near the boundary often left the umpires unsighted. It was proposed that, for such catches, the on-field umpires could give an ‘unsighted’ instruction to the TV umpire, rather than the more explicit soft-signal of Out or Not out,” the MCC statement read. Pundits and cricketers such as VVS Laxman, Graeme Swann, Dinesh Karthik, Mike Atherton, Virender Sehwag, Wasim Jaffer among many others have questioned the 'soft-signal' and the decision taken during the fourth T20I between India and England in Ahmedabad. 'Why can't there be 'I don't know' call for umpires,' asks Virat Kohli after catch controversy

After a slow start, India Legends skipper Sachin Tendulkar has hit fifth gear going into the business end of the ongoing Road Safety World Series in Raipur. While he hit a 37-ball 60 in the last group-stage game against South Africa Legends, he smashed a 42-ball 65 in the semi-final against West Indies. But the maestro says it has not been easy returning to the crease as the body refuses to listen to the heart at times.

Speaking to ANI, Tendulkar threw light on the highly-competitive action in the tournament, the message he wants to pass to the citizens when it comes to maintaining road safety and his take on the ever-present debate on whether experienced or youngsters should be backed to play for the country.

Videos have surfaced of Tendulkar undergoing sessions with the team physios as he plies his trade for India Legends in the Road Safety World Series and the Master Blaster makes no bones about the fact that the body is not getting any younger. But he does wish to thank the physios for preparing him for matches.

"Body, it has not been easy. Even before, I got here to participate in the tournament, while preparing, I hurt my back and that kept me out for about 10 days before I could get back to it very slowly. We have two physios Vaibhav Daga and Saif. Both have really helped because I have had problems, the back problems and knee. The forearms also went into spasm, needed needles to relax them. Those kind of things are continuing to happen, that are part and parcel. Number of players are having niggles and injuries here and there, but they are happy to be here for a good cause," he smiled.

Road safety is a cause very close to Tendulkar`s heart and the legend says that the reaction from the people has been nothing short of excellent and he wishes for people to show more patience while on the road and try and avoid taking rash calls whether while riding a bike or driving a car. "We are here for a cause and people are taking notice of what we are looking to do. The reaction has been very good, the crowds have responded brilliantly. I have always said this that when people react this way then it`s the best tonic for any athlete. The appreciation transpires into making something special on the field.

"It has actually happened because a number of legends go out there and play some spectacular cricket. People are enjoying, and it gives all of us an opportunity to relive those moments. Earlier, when we played actively, it just allowed us to do that. Here, I would want to thank the six teams for taking the time out to spread this message, this is important," he pointed.

Elaborating further on the need to be safe on the road, Tendulkar said: "Every four minutes we are losing lives in India. While people are riding two-wheelers, 50 per cent of the accidents are happening in the age group of 18-35 because of not wearing helmets. You know number of lives are lost because we are not doing the basic things. Pillions riders don`t wear helmets. The drivers and passengers choose not to wear seat belts when driving a car.

"Life is precious, one cannot because of carelessness, put life in danger or someone else`s life in danger. That`s why I feel patience is required. When we were small, we would have piggybanks where we would collect our pocket money and save. Similarly, if we show little bit of patience every day and allow elderly people to cross roads, honk less and do these little things, that is a piggybank of blessings. Every time you are helping visually impaired or elders to cross the road, you are earning blessings and all you have to do is stop for five seconds. These small things can really change our mindset, it is really important that we decide to every day fill our piggybank with blessings.

"Any talk with Tendulkar is incomplete without discussing Indian cricket and with the T20 World Cup coming up later in the year, debates have once again started on whether youngsters should be given a go with an eye on the showpiece event. The maestro feels that selectors must pick the best XI irrespective of age.

"One thing I would like to clarify here is that it is not just about picking youngsters. It is about picking capable players, you are talking about the Indian cricket team, age should not be criteria. It is about what you are able to deliver and that is what matters, not age. If somebody is able to perform and may not be a young cricketer, but if you are able to perform you should be playing for India.

"Talking about youngsters, if you are able to perform then he rightfully deserves it. But if he is not able to perform, then maybe there are options you can look at. It is just not about age, it is a misconception that you should promote youngsters. I feel we should be picking our best 11. We should be picking our best 14-15 member squad and the best balance is known to the selection committee and it should be left to them," he pointed.

Two guys who have managed to impress in the ongoing T20I series against England are Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan. Tendulkar believes playing top-quality bowlers in the Indian Premier League has readied the youngsters for the tough challenges on the international stage.

"As far as Suryakumar and Ishan are concerned, they both have done really well, they have not looked out of place at all and there is a reason for that. They played against all these guys a number of times. Yesterday, one of the commentators said that Surya has played against Archer and Stokes like as good as playing against Rajasthan Royals.

"For us, when I went to Pakistan and Australia, I was playing all those bowlers for the first time and that was at international level, so here the beauty is that they have played against top bowlers in the IPL and then playing against them for India, it is a big difference, you know what to expect from them and that is what has happened. That is the beauty of our structure and we can noticeably see that our bench strength is really good," he explained.

ALSO READ: India name Suryakumar Yadav, Prasidh Krishna for England ODIs - Check full squad Elaborating further on the need to be safe on the road, Tendulkar said: "Every four minutes we are losing lives in India. JSW-GMR co-owned IPL franchise Delhi Capitals on Friday revealed the season’s official playing jersey in a unique ceremony in the presence of fans. The franchise, that believes&nbsp;in a ‘Fans First’ approach, handpicked some of its top fans and invited them over for a surprise to the Delhi Capitals office.

What followed was an unforgettable experience for the fans. After a heartfelt conversation with CEO Vinod Bisht about their favourite players and this season’s expectations, the fans witnessed the unveiling of the new jersey. These fans were the very first ones to see the new jersey, even before the players. Getting their hands on their very own customised DC jerseys left the fans elated, but the best was saved for the end. Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer and opener Shikhar Dhawan connected with them live over a video call, to catch a glimpse of the jersey and chat with the fans, making it a rare and precious experience.

"Delhi’s fans have stood by the team through ups and downs, so it is imperative for us to make them feel special,” said Chairman and co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi, on the occasion. “To take the fan experience to a different level, we also organised a photoshoot for the select fans in the new jersey, just like we do for the players. We are glad to have given them a memorable experience. It’s also a very proud moment for all of us at GMR to see the group’s logo on the arm. We cannot wait for the league to kick off, I wish the team all the very best.”

The new Delhi Capitals jersey will continue to be dominated by blue (representing stability and confidence), and red (symbolising energy, passion &amp; aggression). The jersey is in a darker shade of blue, however, and graduates to lighter tones. In addition to the trademark tiger stripes across the jersey, red tiger claws on the sides makes the overall appeal extremely dynamic.

“The new jersey looks trendy, which is in sync with our team – a vibrant, young side ready to take on a challenge, and the tiger claws make a strong statement.” said Delhi Capitals Director &amp; Interim CEO Vinod Bisht, of the new jersey. “It was an invigorating experience for me to unveil the jersey with some of our diehard fans, who always bring such great emotional energy to the table. Suryakumar Yadav on Thursday became the first Indian and third overall cricketer to smash the first ball in T20 international for a six. Suryakumar hooked pacer Jofra Archer for a six after coming on to bat at number three in the fourth T20I between India and England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.&nbsp;

Suryakumar was sent to bat at number three after India lost opener Rohit Sharma early in the innings. While Rohit started the match with a first-ball six off Adil Rashid, the Hitman was dismissed by Archer. The England pacer tried to rattle Suryakumar, who was playing his first delivery in international cricket, with a bouncer but the Mumbai batsman connected well to dispatch the ball for a six.

In T20Is, only Pakistan's Sohail Tanvir and South Africa's Mangaliso Mosehle had started their career with a first-ball six. While Tanvir smashed it against India in Johannesburg in the year 2007, Mosehle achieved the feat against Sri Lanka in Centurion in 2017.

Suryakumar made his international debut in the second T20I against England in Ahmedabad but didn't get to bat as India won the match comfortably. However, he was promoted to bat at number three and grabbed the chance with both hands. Suryakumar has been one of the most consistent performers in IPL and domestic cricket for a few years now and entered the international circuit with a cracking half-century.

Suryakumar Yadav becomes first Indian to start international career with first-ball 6

Controversy erupted during the fourth T20I between India and England following the dismissal of Suryakumar Yadav after third umpire gave him out despite the slow-motion replays suggesting that the ball had touched the ground.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The incident happened in the 14th&nbsp;over of India's innings when Suryakumar was looking set on the crease with a 30-ball 57. Sam Curran bowled a full delivery as SKY went for a ramp in a bid to clear the fine-leg boundary.&nbsp;&nbsp;

However, he didn't get the cleanest of connection as Dawid Malan dived to take the catch. The on-field umpire&nbsp;Anantha Padmanabhan gave the soft-signal as out and referred the decision to the third umpire&nbsp;Virender Sharma.&nbsp;

The third umpire went through slow-motion replays multiple times and the front angle suggested that the ball had touched the ground in between Malan's fingers. However, the third umpire thought the replays were inconclusive and went with the on-field decision.&nbsp;&nbsp;

From former cricketers such as Virender Sehwag, Wasim Jaffer to high-profile celebrities, everyone took to Twitter to congratulate Suryakumar on a fantastic maiden half-century while slamming the decision by the third umpire.&nbsp;

Controversy erupted during the fourth T20I between India and England following the dismissal of Suryakumar Yadav after third umpire gave him out despite the slow-motion replays suggesting that the ball had touched the ground. The incident happened in the 14th over of India's innings when Suryakumar was looking set on the crease with a 30-ball 57. Sam Curran bowled a full delivery as SKY went for a ramp in a bid to clear the fine-leg boundary. However, he didn't get the cleanest of connection as Dawid Malan dived to take the catch. The on-field umpire Anantha Padmanabhan gave the soft-signal as out and referred the decision to the third umpire Virender Sharma. The third umpire went through slow-motion replays multiple times and the front angle suggested that the ball had touched the ground in between Malan's fingers. However, the third umpire thought the replays were inconclusive and went with the on-field decision. From former cricketers such as Virender Sehwag, Wasim Jaffer to high-profile celebrities, everyone took to Twitter to congratulate Suryakumar on a fantastic maiden half-century while slamming the decision by the third umpire. Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has taken a sly dig at the COVID-19 protocols and bio-secure bubble arrangements made by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 6.&nbsp;&nbsp;

PSL 6 was postponed mid-way through the tournament after several COVID-19 positive cases were reported within squads. Amir has said that PCB shouldn't have allowed outsiders inside the hotel where the players and officials were staying for the tournament.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Amir further said that there were two lifts at the hotel for player and visitors but were divided by a wooden stand while taking a jibe that&nbsp;the virus would not go away after seeing that piece of wood.&nbsp;

“There were two lifts at the hotel, one for players and others for the rest of the visitors. There was a wooden stand to separate the two but the people using the lifts could still talk and see each other. Covid would not run away after seeing that piece of wood,” Amir made a tongue-in-cheek comment&nbsp;during an interview with Cricket Pakistan.&nbsp;

India would be looking to level the five-match series against England when they take the field for the fourth T20I at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With England leading the series 2-1, the Men in Blue would be itching to record a win and take the series to the last match.&nbsp;&nbsp;Whereas for the visitors, it is a golden opportunity to win the series after the Eoin Morgan-led outfit came all guns blazing in the third T20I.&nbsp;

The series has produced one-sided matches so far and fans would be hoping to get a close contest between the two top sides.&nbsp;&nbsp;

As far as the playing XIs are concerned, England are expected to field the same playing XI with the players hitting good form in the series. Skipper Morgan has a fully-fit squad to pick his team for the match.&nbsp;&nbsp;

For India, T Natarajan has joined the squad after recovering from his injury at the NCA. However, he is likely to be benched in the game. Suryakumar Yadav is expected to be back in the playing XI but it would be interesting to see whether India&nbsp;rest KL Rahul, who has registered scores of 1,0,0 in the series so far.&nbsp;

Australian sporting icon Ellyse Perry has become the latest global superstar to sign up for cricket’s new 100-ball competition The Hundred.

The ICC Women’s Player of the Decade will play for Birmingham Phoenix in the first season of the new competition where she will line up alongside compatriot Ashleigh Gardner, New Zealand’s Sophie Devine and England’s own Amy Jones and Georgia Elwiss.

Ellyse Perry said: “I can’t wait to come over to the UK and get involved in The Hundred this summer. It’s fantastic to see how it’s put women’s cricket in the spotlight and attracted so many of the world’s top players to come and play in it.

“With 100 balls per side it’s going to be really exciting to play in, and I’m looking forward to helping introduce a new generation to cricket and hopefully inspiring them to pick up a bat and ball themselves.”

A true sporting superstar, Perry became the youngest cricketer to represent Australia in 2007. Two weeks later she made her debut for the Matildas, the Australian women's football team, in an Olympic qualifier against Hong Kong, scoring in the second minute. She is the first Australian to have appeared in both ICC and FIFA World Cups and one of a very small number of global sportspeople to have played in both.

She focused solely on cricket in 2014 and has since been described as the most marketable sportsperson in Australia. She is one of the star players of the Australia team who won the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2013 and ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018 and 2020. She was recently recognised by the ICC as the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Decade.

The Hundred features world-class domestic and international players in men’s and women’s competitions, with family-friendly entertainment off the pitch. It will take place this summer and feature eight city-based teams based in Birmingham, Cardiff, Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham, Southampton and two in London. It will be screened live by the BBC and Sky.

The Hundred will start with a women’s match with Oval Invincibles taking on Manchester Originals live on Sky and BBC on July 21, a day before the same men’s teams meet.

Beth Barrett-Wild, Head of The Hundred Women’s Competition, said: “Ellyse’s participation in The Hundred shows that the competition continues to attract the best players from around the world.

“By showcasing the most talented female cricketers on the planet, on a big stage, alongside the men, we have an opportunity to continue to normalise cricket as a sport for women and girls, as much as it is for men and boys. I truly believe that The Hundred will be a gamechanger for women’s sport.”

Ben Sawyer, Birmingham Phoenix women’s team Head Coach said: “Ellyse is a world-class cricketer who would improve any team and we are thrilled that she will be turning out for us at Birmingham Phoenix this summer. 'KL Rahul will be disappointed...': VVS Laxman explains flaws in batsman's technique

Match-winner Jos Buttler praised England captain Eoin Morgan as a "pioneer" after his landmark 100th Twenty20 appearance in Tuesday's victory over India.

Buttler, whose unbeaten 83 eclipsed India skipper Virat Kohli's swashbuckling 77, said Morgan was an inspiration to up-and-coming England cricketers.

Morgan, 34, has revamped England's approach to limited-overs cricket, highlighted by their 2019 ODI World Cup win -- four years after they failed to get out of their pool in 2015.

"He's been a pioneer for English white-ball cricketers -– he was a pioneer as a player to start with and certainly as a captain and leader," Buttler said.

"He has always been someone who has been ahead of the curve."

Dublin-born Morgan became the first England men's player to play 100 T20 internationals in the eight-wicket win, which put the tourists 2-1 up in the five-match series.

Morgan has "taken England's white-ball cricket to places it's never been before and he's done it in a quite incredible way", Buttler said.

"He's a selfless guy but it's no mean achievement to reach 100 caps."

Morgan, who will lead England at the T20 World Cup in India later this year, said receiving the 100th cap from his "great friend" Buttler was an emotional moment.

"It nearly brought me to tears to be honest," Morgan said of Buttler's short address to the team.

"Playing in 100 games is a proud moment for me but the words that he said really did warm my heart and I am very grateful," said the captain.

Buttler, 30, admitted he sometimes felt under pressure to retain his opening spot, a position he has held since 2018.

"I don't know if it will ever end, people seem to quite enjoy talking about it. I certainly feel the pressure of that sometimes," he said.

"We have lots of guys who would love to bat in that opening position. For most people it's probably the best place to bat in the game.

"But I know I've got the full backing of Morgs to go and do it, which gives me a lot of confidence.

Buttler, whose unbeaten 83 eclipsed India skipper Virat Kohli's swashbuckling 77, said Morgan was an inspiration to up-and-coming England cricketers. Morgan, 34, has revamped England's approach to limited-overs cricket, highlighted by their 2019 ODI World Cup win -- four years after they failed to get out of their pool in 2015. "He's been a pioneer for English white-ball cricketers -– he was a pioneer as a player to start with and certainly as a captain and leader," Buttler said. "He has always been someone who has been ahead of the curve." Dublin-born Morgan became the first England men's player to play 100 T20 internationals in the eight-wicket win, which put the tourists 2-1 up in the five-match series. Morgan has "taken England's white-ball cricket to places it's never been before and he's done it in a quite incredible way", Buttler said. "He's a selfless guy but it's no mean achievement to reach 100 caps." Morgan, who will lead England at the T20 World Cup in India later this year, said receiving the 100th cap from his "great friend" Buttler was an emotional moment. "It nearly brought me to tears to be honest," Morgan said of Buttler's short address to the team. "Playing in 100 games is a proud moment for me but the words that he said really did warm my heart and I am very grateful," said the captain. England speedster Mark Wood on Wednesday said that Jofra Archer's ability to build pressure on the opposition leads to&nbsp;dismissals during matches.&nbsp;Wood was the wrecker-in-chief for England as the pacer scalped the wickets of KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer as England registered a thumping eight-wicket in to take a 2-1 lead in the five-T20I series, being played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"Jofra starts a lot of the times because he keeps the pressure on, it forces the teams to take risks against the other bowlers. He keeps it tight, when I started well and I got the wicket, they had a new batsman and we could get a few dot balls in to build pressure. It is just about bowling in tandem and keeping the pressure on for each other. Just trying to make sure that we did not give anything loose," said Wood during a virtual press&nbsp;conference.&nbsp;

Wood kept his bowling tight in the first three overs in the third T20I but Indian skipper Virat Kohli was all class during the death overs and made light work in Wood's fourth and final over.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Kohli used&nbsp;the crease&nbsp;to perfection&nbsp;as&nbsp;he went deep inside the crease to hit a pull shot off Wood that went ten rows into the stands.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"We have a plan as a group. Chris Jordon is an experienced bowler. We decide on the ball we are going to bowl and then you try to execute that. The plan was good but the execution was wrong. On a couple of balls, I felt I executed what I wanted to bowl, but Kohli just played good shots and good players are allowed to do that. The first six he hit off me, was a hell of a shot," said&nbsp;Wood.&nbsp;

India Women on&nbsp;Wednesday&nbsp;lost the fifth ODI against South Africa Women by five wickets at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The Mithali Raj-led outfit, with the crushing defeat, conceded the series 4-1, in what has been a tough outing for the team after a gap of almost a year.&nbsp;

While there were debates on selectorial issues ahead of the series as the Indian Women's team didn't pick the likes of Shikha Pandey,&nbsp;Shafali&nbsp;Verma,&nbsp;Taniya Bhatia among a few others, the&nbsp;women's team didn't live up to the expectations and were dominated and outplayed by the South Africa Women's team led by Sune Luus.&nbsp;

After the conclusion of the fifth ODI, the head coach of the Indian women's team WV Raman said that it wasn't easy to take the field for an ODI series after 15 months while adding the players lacked the mental stamina and physical fitness to put pressure&nbsp;on the visitors. However, the former India all-rounder added that he is sure the girls would&nbsp;realise&nbsp;what went wrong for them in the series and bounce back stronger.&nbsp;&nbsp;

When asked about the selection of the ODI squad, Raman said it would be fair if he talks to the players directly.&nbsp;

“As far as selectorial issues are concerned, I think it is only fair that I talk to them if required and I talk to them directly,” Raman told reporters in a virtual press conference after the end of fifth ODI in Lucknow.&nbsp;

“And what transpired in this series is very simple: the girls lacked the game time, and they're obviously short in terms of mental stamina and the cricketing fitness. By that I mean it's not easy to come back after 15 months &amp; play a one-day series and retain the focus and intensity required to put the opposition under pressure.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“So, these things do happen, it happens to the best of players and best of teams. I am sure that the girls would&nbsp;realise&nbsp;what was not really happening and work on it. I have seen them do that in the past and I am sure they will do it in the future as well,” he added.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Batting first, India Women could manage just 188 runs on the board. Skipper Mithali Raj was the lone warrior with the willow as the veteran scored 79 runs off 104 as wickets tumbled at the other end.&nbsp;&nbsp;

For South Africa, Nadine de Klerk starred with the ball as she picked up three in her 10-over quota.&nbsp;

Chasing 189, South Africa Women lost openers Sune Luus and Laura&nbsp;Woolvaardt&nbsp;early before Lara Goodall was sent packing for 1. Reeling at 27/3, Mignon du Preez and Anne Bosch held the ground and scored 57 and 58 respectively to put the visitors on the charge. Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has not minced his words as he questioned Team India's decision to leave out Suryakumar Yadav from the playing XI in the third T20I against England on Tuesday. The Eoin Morgan-led side won the match by eight wickets to take a 2-1 lead in the series with&nbsp;most of the Indian batsmen failing to make a mark in the crucial game.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Suryakumar was left out as vice-captain Rohit Sharma, who was rested for the first two T20Is, came back to the playing XI. However, Gambhir has been left frustrated by the constant chopping and changing and wants the team to back the Mumbai Indians batsman.&nbsp;

"It amazes me, seven months before the World Cup he starts preparing for World Cup, and probably after the World Cup he will start preparing for the next World Cup. It really doesn`t matter, the kind of form you are in matters,"&nbsp;ESPNcricinfo&nbsp;quoted Gambhir was as saying.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"Imagine if there is an injury issue, what have you seen of Suryakumar Yadav, what have you seen of Suryakumar Yadav in international cricket. I hope nobody gets injured but if there is an injury case and somebody needs to bat at number 4 and number 5," he further said.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"For example, there has to be a replacement for Shreyas Iyer, who are you going to go for. So at least look at someone whom you have got into the setup. Probably give him that opportunity in three or four games and see where he stands," Gambhir added.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Kohli, a formerly top-ranked batsman in the format and currently number one in ODIs, has gained one slot and a massive 47 rating points after unbeaten knocks of 73 and 77 in the second and third matches while Buttler’s match-winning 83 not out in the third match has helped him advance five places to 19th position, just two shy of his career-best 17th position attained in October 2018. There were also some other fine performances in the series between the top two sides of the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings, providing them with a good opportunity to prepare for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup later this year in India. Jonny Bairstow, who chipped in with 40 runs and was associated in an unbroken 77-run stand with Buttler in the eight-wicket win on Tuesday, has moved up two slots to 14th position in the list led by his compatriot Dawid Malan. ICC Men's T20I Rankings: Virat Kohli, Jos Buttler witness sharp rise after sparkling performances

Virat Kohli on Tuesday produced batting of the highest&nbsp;calibre&nbsp;as he hammered an unbeaten 77 off 46 deliveries&nbsp;to help India post a competitive target of 156-6 in 20 overs in the third T20I against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With the cracking half-century, Kohli&nbsp;equalled&nbsp;New Zealand captain Kane Williamson's record&nbsp;of scoring&nbsp;the&nbsp;most&nbsp;number of half-centuries by a captain in T20I&nbsp;cricket.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Both Kohli and Williamson now have 11 fifties as captain of their respective sides in the shortest format of the game. In total, Kohli has now scored 27 T20I half-centuries.&nbsp;&nbsp;

It was also the first time since T20 World Cup in 2016 that Kohli smashed back-to-back half-centuries in T20Is. The Indian skipper had scored 73not-out&nbsp;off&nbsp;49&nbsp;deliveries&nbsp;in the&nbsp;second T20I against England which India won by seven wickets.&nbsp;

Virat Kohli joins Kane Williamson in elite list after achieving iconic landmark in T20I cricket

The T20 format has helped the game of cricket evolve over the years. From the days when players used to be conservative about their shot-selection to youngsters playing fearless and glitzy shots, cricket has come a long way since the introduction of T20 cricket.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Former Sri Lankan batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan was the first player to play the scoop shot&nbsp;- over the wicket-keeper, against Australia in 2009 World T20 -&nbsp;which later became famous by the name of ‘Dilscoop’. Since then, the world of cricket&nbsp;has seen a plethora of&nbsp;innovative shots with the latest being Rishabh&nbsp;Pant's&nbsp;masterclass against England pacers James Anderson and Jofra Archer.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The inventor of ‘Dilscoop’ - Dilshan – has lauded the fearless approach of Rishabh Pant and other youngsters as they continue to innovate and&nbsp;entertain the crowd with their batting while also helping their respective teams win matches across formats.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Pant, who unleashed the reverse-swat, first against veteran pacer James Anderson in the fourth Test in Ahmedabad, left everyone flabbergasted by his sheer audacity to attempt the stroke against England's leading wicket-taker. But that was not&nbsp;enough, the youngster played a similar stroke against Jofra Archer&nbsp;when the England pacer was bowling at close to 150kph to leave everyone awestruck.&nbsp;

Dilshan said he is extremely delighted to see youngsters&nbsp;showing confidence in their ability and are not taken aback by the pace or class of the bowler.&nbsp;

“I think it's really good. Since the introduction of T20 cricket, few youngsters do different things on the field. For example, I tried to invent&nbsp;Dilscoop&nbsp;now people have tried to play the reverse sweeps, switch hits, paddles, etc. I think it is really a good thing that they are challenging themselves. I feel if any good cricketer can take that challenge, that's really good for the game to advance. It can go a long way. We can see not only in T20s or one-dayers&nbsp;but now even&nbsp;in&nbsp;Test cricket young cricketers try to take some chances by playing reverse sweeps and reverse paddles,” Dilshan answered to a WION query during a media interaction.&nbsp;

“It is&nbsp;really good&nbsp;that&nbsp;they have the confidence to do&nbsp;these kinds of things. They have confidence that's why they are doing it. The best thing is&nbsp;to&nbsp;enjoy it when you are trying different things and not think much about failures. The crowd wants to see different things from newcomers. I'm really happy that young cricketers are trying innovative things. I'm really happy,” Dilshan, who scored 10,290 ODI runs for Sri Lanka, added.&nbsp;

But as a bowler, how do you deal with such players and strokes? Former Sri Lanka seamer&nbsp;Farveez&nbsp;Maharoof&nbsp;weighs his opinion as he said that the key is to follow batsmen till the last moment and adjust your deliveries accordingly. Maharoof went on to heap praise on Rishabh Pant as the former Sri Lankan&nbsp;international&nbsp;labelled Rishabh&nbsp;Pant's&nbsp;shots as ''outrageous''.&nbsp;

But what happens with these switch-hits, reverse paddle,&nbsp;Dilscoop, is it's at the last moment.&nbsp;So,&nbsp;the bowler has to release then the player plays his stroke.&nbsp;So that's where the fine line comes in.&nbsp;It's also a matter of having experience playing T20 cricket because we all know that bowlers are under the pump when it comes to T20 cricket. So, firstly&nbsp;you got to do the basics properly. And then think of you know how to tackle the especially guys like Dilshan and Rishabh, who play outrageous strokes,” the former Sri Lankan seamer explained.&nbsp;&nbsp;

India and England are set to play the third T20I of the five-match series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday. The series is firmly poised at 1-1 after the end of the first two matches and&nbsp;both teams will look to take a lead in the series.&nbsp;&nbsp;

India, after losing the series opener, bounced back strong courtesy fine half-centuries from debutant Ishan Kishan and skipper Virat Kohli. However, with the match set to be played on a black-soil pitch, spinners are likely to come into play.&nbsp;&nbsp;

It would be interesting to see whether Indian opener Rohit Sharma gets a chance to feature in the match after being rested in the first two T20Is. KL Rahul getting dismissed for 1 and 0 is a concern for the Men in Blue but they are likely to give Rahul another match.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Whereas for England, Moeen Ali might play the game with one of the seamers expected to be rested for the match.&nbsp;

India and England are set to play the third T20I of the five-match series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday. The series is firmly poised at 1-1 after the end of the first two matches and both teams will look to take a lead in the series. India, after losing the series opener, bounced back strong courtesy fine half-centuries from debutant Ishan Kishan and skipper Virat Kohli. However, with the match set to be played on a black-soil pitch, spinners are likely to come into play. It would be interesting to see whether Indian opener Rohit Sharma gets a chance to feature in the match after being rested in the first two T20Is. KL Rahul getting dismissed for 1 and 0 is a concern for the Men in Blue but they are likely to give Rahul another match. Whereas for England, Moeen Ali might play the game with one of the seamers expected to be rested for the match. United Arab Emirates (UAE) players Mohammad Naveed and Shaiman Anwar Butt have been banned from all cricket for eight years each after the ICC Anti-Corruption Tribunal found them guilty of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.

The bans are backdated to 16 October 2019, when they were provisionally suspended for attempting to corrupt matches of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019 in the UAE.

Following a full hearing and presentation of written and oral argument, the Tribunal found both Naveed and Shaiman guilty of:

Article 2.1.1 – for being party to an agreement or effort to fix or contrive or otherwise influence improperly the result, progress, conduct or other aspect(s) of a match or matches at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019.

Article 2.4.4 - Failing to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in corrupt conduct under the Code at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019.

Naveed was also found guilty of breaching the following two counts of the Emirates Cricket Board Anti-Corruption Code for Participants of the T10 League 2019:

Article 2.1.1 – for being party to an agreement or effort to fix or contrive or otherwise influence improperly the result, progress, conduct or other aspect(s) of a match or matches at the T10 League 2019.

Article 2.4.4 - Failing to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in corrupt conduct under the Code at the T10 League 2019.&nbsp;

Alex Marshall, ICC General Manager – Integrity Unit, said: “Mohammad Naveed and Shaiman Anwar represented their adopted country, the UAE at the highest level in cricket.&nbsp;

“Naveed was the captain and leading wicket taker. Anwar was the opening bat. Both had long international careers and were well versed in the threat from match-fixers. That they both chose to engage with this corrupt activity was a cynical betrayal of their positions, their teammates, and all supporters of UAE cricket.&nbsp;

“I am pleased that the independent Tribunal has imposed significant bans from all forms of cricket and this should serve as a warning to any cricketer who considers taking the wrong path.”
