<h2><strong>Options open for McDonald and Co</strong></h2>

<p>"All options will be considered. And I said we're not going to make the decision until the deadline which will be the West Indies game," McDonald said after Australia’s win over Pakistan.</p>

<p>“Cameron Green, as a discussion around who are the best six batters, has definitely been in the conversation," said McDonald.</p>

<p>Australia will take on the West Indies after the Pakistan series is over and will need to find the missing piece in the puzzle to replace the retiring Warner. Interestingly, Green has an upper hand to make the Test squad having been part of the recent successes including the World Test Championship (WTC) triumph and the Ashes in England. He is also without a contract in the ongoing Big Bash League.</p>

<p>Marcus Harris, Cameron Bancroft and Renshaw are also part of the conversation having impressed in the domestic Sheffield Shield competitions. On the flip side, Bancroft and Renshaw have been on the verge of the first team in the past with impressive stints whenever called upon. Renshaw was part of the India tour in February and has been travelling with the squad which could help him boost his chances to cement a place in the Playing XI.</p>

Until then the discussions will be open. We'll put a deadline on that. That'll be the West Indies selection meeting,” McDonald spoke on other options.</p>

<p>Australia will next take field at the SCG on January 3 when they play Pakistan in&nbsp;third Test. They have already pocketed the series 2-0 with a 79-run win at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Friday. A win in SCG will be the perfect farewell to Warner who will be playing on&nbsp;his home pitch.</p>

<p>Green told, "My parents got told when I was born that I had chronic kidney disease. Basically, there's no symptoms, it was just picked up through ultrasounds. Chronic kidney disease is basically a progressive disease of your kidney's health function. Unfortunately, mine doesn't filter the blood as well as other kidneys. They're at about 60% at the moment which is stage two."</p>

<p>"I consider myself very lucky that I'm not as affected physically by chronic kidney disease as other people who are affected by the same thing. With chronic kidney disease there's five stages, with stage one being the least severe, and stage five being transplant or dialysis. Fortunately, I'm stage two, but if you don't look after them enough, it goes back down. Kidneys can't get better. It's irreversible. So anything you can do to slow the progression, you basically try and do," the youngster mentioned.</p>

<p>Green's disease was picked up during his mother Bee Tracey's pregnancy. It was detected when she had her 19-week pregnancy scan. His father Gary further revealed that at one stage Green's&nbsp;life expectancy was very low and he was not expected to live beyond the age of 12.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In this regard, Gary&nbsp;stated, "At the time it was unchartered territory as such, the prognosis wasn't great. There were life expectancy issues that he might not expect to live past twelve years of age."</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Green narrated an incident where he suffered considerable pain while representing Australia in an ODI, in Cairns, versus New Zealand in 2022. Back then, he made an impressive 89 not out in his side's&nbsp;successful 233-run chase after bowling five overs (0 for 33) and fielding the full 50 overs.</p>

<p>Recalling the match, Green said, "I think it was pretty well documented that I had a pretty long day of bowling and a pretty long bat as well, and then had a cramping episode. It took me a long time to realise that it was probably my kidney function that was affecting my cramping. I always thought I didn't drink enough, didn't eat enough, didn't look after myself during the game as well as I could have, but I think over time I realised that I was doing absolutely everything right, but I was still cramping, unfortunately."</p>

<p>He added, "I have told a few guys in the cricket world. The coaching staff are all over it. I think all the guys in the Aussie cricket team, I've told. <p>"Over the last 18 months, we've had a pretty clear way that we want to build three ways of playing. One of those ways is definitely with all the all-rounders and potentially two quicks, and you've seen that side in the past 18 months being played, so there is a real possibility that both of those players can be in the same XI, and we haven't ruled that out," the head coach added.</p>

<h2>‘Maxwell pulled up really well’</h2>

<p>Emphasizing the value in-form Maxwell adds to the side, McDonald said with both Green and Glenn Maxwell starring with both bat and ball in the lead-up to the marquee event, Australia would like to benefit from this and move forward accordingly in the tournament.</p>

<p>Cameron Green has attained full fitness and is ready to play the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford in Manchester, starting next Wednesday. But it’s not as easy as it appears to be. Green missed the third Test in Leeds after suffering a minor hamstring injury, and the selectors decided to bring Mitchell Marsh in his place – who, for his good, scored a brilliant hundred in the first innings and pressed the case for his retention in the next game – much to the selection committee's headache.</p>

<p>With Marsh also contributing in the wickets column, the selection dilemma increases for the George Bailey-led panel. However, Green’s credentials will help his case, but the young all-rounder isn’t too sure about opening the innings. Since David Warner’s lone gritty knock during the first innings in Lord’s, the veteran batter has struggled, and without any guesses, against Stuart Broad, who now has picked his wicket 17 times in international cricket.</p>

Though he is putting his hands up to bat at any position&nbsp;for the team, Green feels since he bowls a bit more for a batting all-rounder, he must stick with batting at lower down the order.<br />

Citing Shane Watson’s example, who had batted at the top of the order during the 2009 Ashes, Green said, "I think it's a bit of a stretch. I think being an all-rounder [makes it a stretch] - probably Shane Watson is the only one who comes to mind doing that - [and] I'm not too sure how much he bowled."</p>

<p>"I think anyone would be happy to bat anywhere to play Test cricket. You always put your hand up for selection but have to wait and see what selectors think,” Green added.</p>

<h2>We share a good bond, says&nbsp;Green on Marsh</h2>

<p>Though it’s evident if Warner retains his place at the top of the order or even gets replaced by Marcus Harris for the fourth Test, either of Mitchell Marsh and Green will play in Manchester as Travis Head will start, given he adds value with the ball in hand.</p>
