While the T20 World Cup 2022 edition is living up to expectations and is set for a thrilling finish, on November 13, there is plenty in store for cricket fans even after the end of the mega event in Australia. Soon after the conclusion of the T20 WC, the IPL 2023 mini-auction will take place in late December. The mini auction is set to be held in Kochi on December 23.

As per a report in ESPNCricnifo, the mini-auction for the 16th edition of the IPL -- which is just over four months away from its commencement -- will be hosted by Kochi, and not Istanbul or Bengaluru as per earlier reports. Prior to this, many portals had indicated that the BCCI is keen to take the auction outside India, however, it seems it won't be the case this time around. Early in 2022, the IPL 2022 two-day mega auction had been held in Bengaluru. Hence, this will be the second time when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be staging the IPL auction twice in a calendar year (after 2018).

'Extremely radicalised' youth from Assam arrested in Bengaluru

A 67-year-old Indian woman—who has a critical heart condition and needed emergency surgery—was airlifted from the US to India’s southern Chennai city over a 26-hour flight, making this one of the longest aero-medical evacuations in recent years in India.

She arrived in Chennai early Sunday and is undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital.

According to reports, the flight stopped three times on the way—once in Iceland and twice in Turkey—before landing in the Chennai. The woman is a resident of Bengaluru city.

The flight cost $133,000. The family used a Bengaluru-based air ambulance flight service called ICATT which is equipped with an ICU. It involved two super-midsized private jets—one from Portland to Istanbul, Turkey, and another from Istanbul to Chennai.

The woman, whose name has not been revealed and is only identified as a resident of Indiranagar, had recently moved to Portland, Oregon, with her children. She was being treated there for her heart condition, but as soon as her health deteriorated, the family decided to seek treatment in India.

“The woman’s family felt the treatment in the US was not sufficient for her,” Dr Shalini Nalwad, co-founder and director of ICATT, the air ambulance services firm, told The Times of India newspaper.

As the woman recently moved to the US, she was facing issues to secure health insurance as she was an Indian passport holder.

“The treatment period there (in the US) was longer and costing much more than airlifting her to India,” Nalwad was quoted as saying. She added, “This was probably the longest-ever aeromedical retrieval in the country with the patient flown all the way from the US to India over two days' time.”

The latest aero-medical retreat reflects the growing importance of air ambulance operations, which is still at a nascent stage in India.

In May, India’s junior civil aviation minister V K Singh informed parliament that there are 49 air ambulances in the country, run by 19 operators. In the past three years, about 4,100 patients have been moved in air ambulances in India.

As the woman recently moved to the US, she was facing issues to secure health insurance as she was an Indian passport holder. “The treatment period there (in the US) was longer and costing much more than airlifting her to India,” Nalwad was quoted as saying. She added, “This was probably the longest-ever aeromedical retrieval in the country with the patient flown all the way from the US to India over two days' time.” The latest aero-medical retreat reflects the growing importance of air ambulance operations, which is still at a nascent stage in India. In May, India’s junior civil aviation minister V K Singh informed parliament that there are 49 air ambulances in the country, run by 19 operators. In the past three years, about 4,100 patients have been moved in air ambulances in India. (With inputs from agencies) WATCH WION LIVE HERE

Work-life balance? Bengaluru man spotted working on laptop while riding bike, here's how

India and South Africa locked horns in the fifth and final T20I at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Sunday evening (June 19). Much to the dismay of the fans at the stadium, only 3.3 overs of play was possible -- with hosts 21 for 2 -- as the entire proceedings led to a no-result due to persistent rain.

Before the start of play, when rain was out of the picture, Rishabh Pant-led India had lost the coin toss -- for the fifth time in a row -- and were asked to bat first. Just when the players came out for the start of the match, rain made its presence felt and both camps went back to their respective dressing rooms. Just then, a video of Ruturaj Gaikwad's interaction with a groundsman went viral.

In the video, the groundsman was in the Indian dressing room and asked Ruturaj for a quick selfie. To this, the 25-year-old Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) and India opener asked him to maintain distance and, instead, interacted with his follow teammates. While many have slammed Ruturaj for his inappropriate behaviour, some have also supported the batter as outsiders and cellphones are prohibited in dugouts. Here are some reactions as netizens on Twitter are divided over Ruturaj's behaviour with the groundsman:

Big tech shot in ZEE's arm! Technology & Innovation Centre unveiled in Bengaluru

A flurry of preparatory activity is underway at the Chennai-headquartered Garuda Aerospace, an Indian drone manufacturer. The company drones will be among those that are part of a first-of-its-kind, real-world trial in India, where drones will be used to accelerate the process of grocery delivery (by app-based delivery services).

Food tech and delivery company Swiggy had recently announced that Garuda's drones will be among those that will be flown to replenish inventory between seller-run stores and a drop point. Following this, the delivery executive would carry the products to the customers' location. These trails are expected to take place first in Bengaluru and then in Delhi, National Capital Region (NCR) areas.

WION spoke to Agnishwar Jayaprakash, Founder and CEO, Garuda Aerospace, to understand the work that is underway to facilitate this trial.

According to him, the grocery delivery trials are to take place within a few weeks in the metropolis Bengaluru and Hoskote, a town that is nearly 30kms away from the former. He added that the drone deliveries would be implemented for real customer orders and not mock orders. "

We are starting off in Hoskote, a smaller town and a comparatively less-populated area so as to reduce the number of permissions and approvals required for such a trial. While 80 per cent of the trials would involve drones carrying the grocery from a seller location to a pickup point (where the executive collects it), the remaining would involve last-mile delivery using drones" he said.

Dubbed the 'Garuda delivery drone', the unmanned aerial vehicle would be pre-fed the coordinates of the drop location and would have to deliver the payload at the said point. Garuda Aerospace claims that the variant being used for such deliveries can fly at a top speed of 75kmph, at a maximum altitude of 950meters, carrying up to 15kg of payload and will cover deliveries in locations that are within 5-15km radius. Queried about the need for pilots, Agnishwar said that the drones are programmed to do the job autonomously, while avoiding obstacles such as power cables, birds, trees etc. However, the entire operation would be monitored by their company's drone pilots, who would intervene in case of an emergency.

The company is also in touch with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), in order to seek necessary permissions for having drones deliver the groceries directly to customers who reside in their premises.

"We are planning to use one version of drone where the payload will be lowered to the ground, while the drone remains airborne. In another version, the drone will land and place the payload on the ground. Options like collecting the grocery from the rooftop or other open spaces in apartment complexes are being worked out. In case of direct delivery to customer, we are even considering the option of feeding facial recognition into the drone, to ensure that the intended customer alone gets the order" Agnishwar explained.

Also read | 52-year-old Indian mountaineer dies on Mount Kanchenjunga in Nepal WION spoke to Agnishwar Jayaprakash, Founder and CEO, Garuda Aerospace, to understand the work that is underway to facilitate this trial. According to him, the grocery delivery trials are to take place within a few weeks in the metropolis Bengaluru and Hoskote, a town that is nearly 30kms away from the former. He added that the drone deliveries would be implemented for real customer orders and not mock orders. " We are starting off in Hoskote, a smaller town and a comparatively less-populated area so as to reduce the number of permissions and approvals required for such a trial.
The Karnataka government on Tuesday decided to impose weekend curfew and extend the night curfew for two weeks in the state in view of the alarming rise in the number of COVID-19 cases.

The government also decided to shut schools and pre-university colleges except for 10th and 12th standard students for two weeks.
It announced the weekend curfew and also the decision to extend the night curfew for two weeks in the state.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in which senior ministers including Revenue Minister Ashoka, Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar and Higher Education Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, medical experts and senior officials participated.

The meeting was held in view of the sudden jump in number of COVID cases in the state. Karnataka logged 2,479 cases on Tuesday and four fatalities. Since January 1, the city has been logging over 1,000 cases daily.

"We have decided that barring 10th and 12th classes, schools will be shut for rest of the classes in Bengaluru. These COVID rules will come into effect from Wednesday night," Ashoka told reporters.

He said there will be a weekend curfew for two weeks from 10 PM on Friday to 5 AM on Monday. All essential services will continue, he added.

Further, the government decided to extend the night curfew, which ends on January 7, for two weeks.

The Minister also said that there should not be a congregation of more than 200 people in marriages in open places and 100 in marriage halls. There should also be 50 per cent occupancy in pubs, bars, cinema halls and malls and those working in and visiting these places should have taken both doses of the COVID vaccine.

Also, the government decided to make a negative RT-PCR test report mandatory for those coming to the state from Maharashtra, Kerala and Goa, the minister said.

Government offices will have to follow the Government of India guidelines, he explained.

Ashoka told reporters that no rallies or political events with large congregation will be allowed in the city.

His statement came as the Congress plans to organise a march from Mekedatu in Ramanagara district to Bengaluru on January 9 to urge the government to start work on the Mekedatu balancing reservoir across the Cauvery river to supply drinking water in Bengaluru and neighbouring districts.

Speaking to reporters, Sudhakar said those coming from high-risk nations will be sent for institutional quarantine if they test positive for COVID.

The travellers can choose hotels of their choice to stay in quarantine which can be a budget or a star hotel.

"We cannot send the foreigners home who test positive," Sudhakar said.

Sudhakar said there were discussions about the availability of medicines, hospitals, ICU beds and other necessary arrangements.

He also said that the government decided to treat Bengaluru as a 'state' while dealing with COVID-19 cases.

"We are treating Bengaluru as a state because it has become an epicentre of COVID just like any other metropolitan city. Almost 80 to 90 per cent cases are coming from Bengaluru only in Karnataka," the Health minister explained.

Further, Sudhakar said that teams led by IAS officers have been assigned different roles in COVID management to handle the pandemic at a micro level.
