A Bengaluru resident's vigilant stance against expired products has resulted in a significant legal victory against a prominent supermarket in India. He sued the supermarket for selling him expired oats and won $120 (around Rs 10,000) in compensation.

The unfortunate experience of this Bengaluru resident underscores the need for consumers to exercise caution while purchasing goods.

Ignoring relabelling practices that conceal expired dates can lead to health complications and legal actions, as highlighted by the man's ordeal.

The battle for accountability

This alarming revelation pointed towards an attempt to deceive consumers by concealing the product's true condition through fraudulent labelling.

His efforts to address the issue were met with disappointment when his attempts to engage the store staff yielded no satisfactory response.

In a unique medical procedure, doctors in the Indian state of Bengaluru undertook the removal of a bulging growth from a woman's scalp, resembling a "sack of marbles."

This distinctive and rare case was recently reported by the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences in Radiology. The patient, a 52-year-old woman, had been living with this protuberance on her head since childhood but had never sought medical attention until now, reported NDTV.

The enlarged swelling

The painless swelling had grown to remarkable proportions, reaching nearly six inches in length, four inches in width, and five inches in height. An MRI scan revealed its appearance akin to a fleshy hair bun situated at the back of her head. Surgical exploration uncovered that the growth contained fluid, hair, fatty molecules, and balls of keratin with varying sizes and thick outer rims.

Understanding the unusual formation

Medically termed dermoid cysts, these globules are formations composed of tissue spheres originating from embryonic cells. Remarkably, these cysts can house diverse elements such as hair, teeth, or nerves. Dermoid cysts can manifest in various body regions, including the ovaries, head, and neck. Although generally benign, surgical intervention is necessary since these cysts do not resolve on their own.

Ambiguity surrounding the cause

The exact cause of these congenital dermoid cysts remains uncertain. Typically painless and harmless, they can lead to complications like infections and damage to adjacent bones.

Surprisingly, in this particular case, the woman did not experience pain. It remains unclear why she waited until now to seek medical attention.

Post-surgery observation

Patients are commonly advised to seek immediate medical attention if the cyst becomes painful, changes in size, colour, or ruptures. After successfully removing the growth, the woman's recovery was monitored for six months.

Following a thorough analysis, the medical team determined that there was no recurrence of the growth on her body, indicating a successful procedure.

A shocking incident has come to light in India's southern city of Bengaluru where a bike taxi driver masturbated and sexually harassed a woman passenger. The woman, named Athira, took to Twitter to share her ordeal where she revealed how the driver chased her, even after the ride was completed.

The woman said she had gone to take part in a protest at Town Hall where people had gathered to show solidarity with the survivors of violence in Manipur. To return home, she booked a bike taxi on the Rapido app. However, the driver arrived on a bike different to the one registered and shown in the app.

"Surprisingly, the driver arrived on a different bike, explaining that the one registered with @rapidobikeapp was under servicing. I confirmed my booking through his app and proceeded with the ride."

Midway through the journey, the driver started riding the vehicle with one hand while masturbating with the other. The woman said she did not protest, fearing for her safety as they were in a remote area with no other vehicles around.

“During the journey, we reached a remote area with no other vehicles around. Shockingly, the driver began riding with one hand and engaging in inappropriate behavior (Masturbating while riding the bike). Fearing for my safety, I remained silent throughout the ordeal,” she wrote.

I confirmed my booking through his app and proceeded with the ride." Midway through the journey, the driver started riding the vehicle with one hand while masturbating with the other. However, what should have been the end of the ordeal only escalated further as the driver started calling and texting her on WhatsApp. In one of the screenshots shared, the driver could be seen professing his one-sided love, despite the obvious reluctance from the woman. After Athira's tweet went viral, the official handle of Bengaluru police responded to the allegations and asked for the user’s contact details. Woman drowns after car gets stuck in neck-deep water at Bengaluru underpass

The Indian state of Karnataka’s capital city of Bengaluru is infamous for traffic jams that last hours. However, with urban growth and the city becoming the new IT hub of the country, it is now home to offices of several big companies which have created an influx of people from across India and abroad.

What happened?

While hours-long traffic jams, given the rapid increase in the population of the city and the immense pressure created on its infrastructure, are not uncommon but it was this one particular Tuesday morning rush hour that got on everyone’s nerves. Several people, who were on their way to work, claimed that they were forced to leave their vehicles in the middle of the road and even go back home.

Sometime later, the Bengaluru City Traffic Police took to Twitter and reported that a truck collision caused the massive tree to fall on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and asked civilians to take an alternative route until the sluggish traffic problem was resolved.

“Slow moving traffic due to a HTV breakdown in service road from 27th main towards Ibbalur. It will be moved shortly. Kindly co-operate,” the city’s traffic police wrote on Twitter.

Additionally, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sujeetha Salman also took to the social media platform and explained the situation.

In the midst of this chaos, many frustrated locals took to social media and complained about the city’s broken traffic management system.

A truck hit a tree near the military gate of the service road near Ibbalur on the Outer Ring Road and the tree fell down causing traffic congestion, the motorists coming from Silk Board towards Ibbulur Junction are hereby requested to move on an alternate road route. pic.twitter.com/54vTYiVQBB — Sujeetha Salman , IPS (@DCPSouthTrBCP) May 16, 2023 × “A truck hit a tree near the military gate of the service road near Ibbalur on the Outer Ring Road and the tree fell down causing traffic congestion, the motorists coming from Silk Board towards Ibbulur Junction are hereby requested to move on an alternate road route.” How did the people react? In the midst of this chaos, many frustrated locals took to social media and complained about the city’s broken traffic management system. One user wrote, “Congratulations @blrcitytraffic for this massive traffic mismanagement… its been 3 hours… stuck near Silk board Worst traffic this far. High time that IT cos. and Tech startups start looking for alternative cities. #Bengaluru #bangaloretraffic”. We get accustomed easily, I guess. Just sad!” I am surprised how getting stuck in immovable traffic for over 150 mins to cover a 15-18 km distance is considered normal in Bangalore.
What will exactly happen on Zero Shadow Day?

Zero Shadow Day is a celestial phenomenon that takes place twice a year, where the position of the sun is directly overhead because of which no shadow gets cast on the surface of the Earth. So, at 12:17 pm, no shadow will be cast by any vertical object in Bengaluru.

On Zero Shadow Day, the sun moves to its highest point in the sky which results in the reduction of the shadow's length. When a person stands on this shadow, their own shadow becomes invisible, hence it's called "Zero Shadow".

''For people living between +23.5 and -23.5 degrees latitude, the Sun's declination will be equal to their latitude twice - once during Uttarayan and once during Dakshinayan. On these two days, the Sun will be exactly overhead at noon and will not cast a shadow of an object on the ground,'' noted the Astronomical Society of India.

“This happens for places between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn and is on April 25 and 18 August for Bengaluru,” stated the Indian Institute of Astrophysics.

Describing the phenomenon, astrophysicist Debiprosad Duari said, “People and any object, all around the world, staying between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn lose their shadows, though momentarily, twice a year. These two moments are called zero shadow moments. "

During the zero shadow days every year, students as well as astrophiles who are present between the two Tropics erect vertical objects and poles, and sometimes even stand outside to witness the cosmic phenomena with their own eyes. No special instruments or equipment is needed to witness the no-shadow moment.

Bengaluru will observe the next Shadow Day on August 18. The dates when Zero Shadow Day will occur keep changing on the basis of the location and time zone.

ALSO READ | A massive 'tornado' on the sun, the height of 14 Earths, caught on camera The scientists working at IIA will collaborate with a school to measure the earth's diameter on Tuesday, said the officials. Tomorrow 25/04/2023 we are going to observe the Zero Shadow Day. Sun will be directly overhead in Bangalore at Noon. If we have Vertical reference such as a pole, at 12:17pm Sun will be overhead and as a result there will be no shadow of the reference pole. pic.twitter.com/bqOGCSWdjO — ASSOCIATION OF BANGALORE AMATEUR ASTRONOMERS(ABAA) (@abaaonline) April 24, 2023 × What will exactly happen on Zero Shadow Day? WATCH | A Super-Earth will toss us into the Sun or leave us lost in interstellar space? “This happens for places between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn and is on April 25 and 18 August for Bengaluru,” stated the Indian Institute of Astrophysics. Describing the phenomenon, astrophysicist Debiprosad Duari said, “People and any object, all around the world, staying between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn lose their shadows, though momentarily, twice a year. These two moments are called zero shadow moments. " During the zero shadow days every year, students as well as astrophiles who are present between the two Tropics erect vertical objects and poles, and sometimes even stand outside to witness the cosmic phenomena with their own eyes. No special instruments or equipment is needed to witness the no-shadow moment. Bengaluru will observe the next Shadow Day on August 18. The dates when Zero Shadow Day will occur keep changing on the basis of the location and time zone. (With inputs from agencies) You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. India: Bengaluru to mark 'Zero Shadow Day'. Know what it means

KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in match 15 of the IPL 2023 on Monday (April 10) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Opting to bowl first, LSG were in for the leather hunt as fifties from Faf du Plessis (79*), Virat Kohli (61) and Glenn Maxwell (59) took RCB to 212 for 2. In reply, LSG rode on Marcus Stoinis' 65 (30), Nicholas Pooran's 62 (19) and Ayush Badoni's 30 (24) to chase down the total on the last ball of the contest with one wicket to spare.

While LSG eventually won the game, they were nowhere in the hunt being reduced to 23 for 3 in no time during the powerplay overs. Skipper Rahul didn't hog much of the strike but went at a very slow pace throughout the first ten overs. The right-hander was 17 (18) after the halfway mark of LSG's run-chase with Marcus Stoinis doing the bulk of the scoring. After Stoinis fell, Rahul also departed for an unimpressive 18 (20) and was slammed for his inning left, right and centre on social media platforms.

Dodda Ganesh, India's former pacer, also joined the bandwagon and slammed Rahul for his snail-paced knock in what was a high-scoring thriller in Bengaluru on Monday evening. Taking to his official Twitter handle, Ganesh wrote, "This innings from KL Rahul has to be the most hideous innings played in the history of IPL ever considering the context of the game. Man. What’s in his mind? Seriously. This can’t happen for so long at this level. It’s not school cricket."

He added, "Not one shot with intent from KL Rahul in the PP while chasing 213. Don’t know what’s in his mind. You simply can’t bat like this #IPL2023"
