<p>Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has slammed Babar Azam asking him to come out of his average mindset. Afridi was not happy with Babar's timid approach during Pakistan's recent clash against Bangladesh in the ongoing tri-series in New Zealand.</p>

<p>Afridi's comments came in response to Babar's views ahead of Pakistan's game against Bangladesh in Christchurch. When asked about what kind of target they were looking to set for Bangladesh, Babar had said the Men in Green were looking at something close to 160.</p>

<p>Pakistan went on to post 167 runs on the board batting first and ended up winning the game comfortably by 21 runs. However, Babar's comments didn't go down well with Afridi, who has advised the Pakistan skipper to ditch his timid approach in T20Is and look at setting up big totals against all kinds of teams.</p>

<p>"Babar must come out of this average mindset and think big. If scoring 160 runs for the target against Bangladesh was his big intent, then what is he going to do against stronger teams," said Afridi.</p>

<p>While he criticised Babar for his approach, Afridi extended support to his opening partner Mohammad Rizwan, who has also been facing criticism from all corners over his sluggish approach with the bat. Both Babar and Rizwan have been slammed by many for failing to accelerate quickly as a result of which the team suffers when setting up targets.</p>

<p>However, Afridi urged Rizwan to continue playing the way he has been and ignore the critics. Rizwan is currently the top-ranked T20 batter in the world and has been a consistent run-getter for Pakistan in the shortest format.</p>

<p>"The actual thing is the beginning. Babar and Rizwan should score the chunk of runs [for other batters]. Rizwan shouldn't listen to anyone," said Afridi.</p>

When asked about what kind of target they were looking to set for Bangladesh, Babar had said the Men in Green were looking at something close to 160. Pakistan went on to post 167 runs on the board batting first and ended up winning the game comfortably by 21 runs. However, Babar's comments didn't go down well with Afridi, who has advised the Pakistan skipper to ditch his timid approach in T20Is and look at setting up big totals against all kinds of teams. "Babar must come out of this average mindset and think big. If scoring 160 runs for the target against Bangladesh was his big intent, then what is he going to do against stronger teams," said Afridi. Both Babar and Rizwan have been slammed by many for failing to accelerate quickly as a result of which the team suffers when setting up targets. However, Afridi urged Rizwan to continue playing the way he has been and ignore the critics. Rizwan is currently the top-ranked T20 batter in the world and has been a consistent run-getter for Pakistan in the shortest format. "The actual thing is the beginning. Babar and Rizwan should score the chunk of runs [for other batters]. Rizwan shouldn't listen to anyone," said Afridi. While the qualifiers begin on October 16, the main draw of the competition will kick off on October 22 with India and Pakistan meeting each other at the iconic MCG, Melbourne on October 23.</p>

<p>In the last one year, the two senior men's sides have met thrice, with Babar Azam &amp; Co. having a 2-1 lead. In the one game that Men in Green lost to Rohit Sharma-led India, they were close to winning that encounter as well before Hardik Pandya's last-over heroics sealed the deal for Team India during the group stage encounter at the 2022 Asia Cup.</p>

<p>Before India and Pakistan meet again, on October 23 at the MCG,&nbsp;PCB chief Ramiz Raja made heads turn with his recent remarks. The former Pakistan captain is of the opinion that India once used to take the field with the notion that their arch-rivals will never be able to beat them.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It is a mental match more than skill and talent. So, if you are temperamentally strong, mentally focused and not willing to give up, then any small team can defeat a bigger opposition and Pakistan have been underdogs whenever they have competed against India, but of late, they have started respecting us because they had a gut feeling that Pakistan would never be able to beat us," Raja had said while&nbsp;speaking on Dawn News.</p>

<p>In the 2021 T20 WC, Pakistan had hammered India by ten wickets to earn their maiden win over the neighbouring country in World Cup history.</p>

<p>The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday announced the match schedule of the New Zealand men`s cricket team`s dual tours of Pakistan. "New Zealand will play two Tests as part of their ICC World Test Championship title defence and three ICC Men`s Cricket World Cup Super League fixtures from December 27 to January 15, before returning for five T20Is and five ODIs from April 13 to May 7. On the first leg of the Pakistan tour, Kane Williamson`s side will play Tests in Karachi (December 27-31) and Multan (January 4-8). They will return to Karachi for the three ICC Super League matches on January 11, 13 and 15," PCB said in an official statement.</p>

<p>The Karachi Test will be New Zealand`s first in the metropolitan city since October 1990 when Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis shared 15 wickets between them and Shoaib Mohammad scored 203 not out, and the first in Pakistan since the May 2002 Test in Lahore in which Inzamam-ul-Haq scored a memorable 329 and Shoaib Akhtar recorded first innings figures of 8.2-4-11-6.It continues to be a memorable year for Multan as well. After hosting three ODIs against the West Indies in May, they will stage the second Test between Pakistan and England (December (9-13), before holding the second Test between Pakistan and New Zealand. Multan has also been announced as one of the four venues of the HBL Pakistan Super League, which will be held from February 9 to March 19. New Zealand will begin the second leg of the Pakistan tour in Karachi with four T20Is (April 13, 15, 16 and 19), followed by the fifth T20I and two ODIs in Lahore (April 23, 26 and 28) and last three ODIs will be played in Rawalpindi (May 1, 4 and 7).</p>
