As Australia gear up for a busy summer, where they host Pakistan in three Tests starting Dec 14, Maxwell spoke at length about his Test career. While the all-rounder reckons that he 'has not given up on Tests', he is unsure of returning to the red-ball setup for the home series versus Pakistan.

"I haven't given up on Tests," Maxwell was quoted as saying by the Sydney Morning Herald. He further opined, "I think I've just got to be realistic about the timings of the way I've been playing my white-ball cricket."

Maxwell made his Test debut in 2013, during a match against India in Hyderabad. The white-ball specialist has&nbsp;played only seven Tests, with&nbsp;his last appearance coming in 2017. The swashbuckling right-hander has&nbsp;339 runs -- with one hundred --&nbsp;at an&nbsp;average of 26.07 and has claimed eight wickets at 42.62.

Hardik didn't bowl any further and was available to bat but India did not require his services courtesy of Virat Kohli's 103 not out and Shubman Gill's 53. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a statement on Friday (Oct 20) ruling him out of India's upcoming clash versus New Zealand on Sunday (Oct 22) in Dharamsala. Post this, former Australia opener-turned-commentator Matthew Hayden opined on Hardik's absence. He feels that there is a balance issue in the Indian line-up with no Hardik.&nbsp;

I don’t think you can have Jadeja batting up the order, I feel that’s a fragility in the Indian batting line up. The best combination is to get a specialist batter in there, and that way then you have an option to pick a specialist seam bowler as well in Shami,” Hayden further asserted.

CWC '23: When Hardik Pandya is not playing, there is a balance issue for India, reckons former Aussie opener

In match 18 of the CWC 2023 edition on Friday (Oct 20), Australia and Pakistan have locked horns&nbsp;at the M Chidambaram Stadium in Bengaluru. Opting to bowl first, Babar Azam-led Men in Green started off poorly, with David Warner and Mitchell Marsh taking on the bowlers. Shaheen Afridi, however, produced a chance in the fifth over but Usama Mir dropped a sitter to give a reprieve to opener Warner.

It happened on the third ball of the fifth over. It was a well-executed short ball as Warner went for the shot but found a top edge. The ball went up and towards Mir, stationed at mid-on, as he made a mess of the chance. The Pakistani players were in shock seeing the catch go down. The pairing of Steve Smith at three and Marnus Labuschagne at four doesn’t seem to be working the way Australia would have wanted in this World Cup 2023. Although Smith is Australia’s best bet at three and numbers back Marnus’ spot at four, former legend Matthew Hayden feels for the Oz to find a rhythm and break loose, this pair must be separated for good. Hayden called for Cameron Green to open alongside Warner and Marsh to play at three and Smith at four against Pakistan.

With both Smith and Marnus playing the anchor roles, given their similar styles of play, Australia failed to pounce on the chances in the middle overs during the first two matches (against India and South Africa), which they lost.

"Marsh will travel to India to link with the Delhi Capitals squad where former Australian and current New South Wales physiotherapist Pat Farhart will manage his recovery following an isolation period," it added.

Australia will also play a T20 match to wrap up their tour of Pakistan, who they beat 1-0 in a three-test series.

"Being able to focus on my recovery without the travel and isolation break is the best approach," Marsh said.

Australia's tour of Pakistan should encourage major cricket nations to shed their apprehensions and visit the South Asian country, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Friday.

Top teams have largely steered clear of Pakistan since 2009, when a visiting Sri Lanka team was ambushed by gunmen in Lahore, in an attack blamed on Islamist militants.

The PCB spent much of the last decade trying to convince teams to visit Pakistan but suffered a setback when New Zealand and England abandoned their tours last year.

The PCB heaved a massive sigh of relief on Friday when Australia's first tour of Pakistan in 24 years got underway in Rawalpindi.

"This tour sends out a strong and a positive message to the entire world," PCB chief Faisal Hasnain told a news conference ahead of the start of the opening test.

"I'm confident that when the Australian team returns home, they will leave with fond memories, and they all hopefully will become ambassadors of Pakistan."

The importance of the series was not lost on the International Cricket Council (ICC) with chief executive Geoff Allardice attending the news conference.

"I've seen over the last four or five years the efforts the PCB and various authorities in Pakistan have made to bring elite cricket back to Pakistan and this is another step in that journey," Allardice said.

"It's a building block in terms of building that confidence for teams to come back and tour Pakistan."

Australian Cricketers'&nbsp;Association (ACA) chief executive Todd Greenberg said Australian cricketers were "unbelievably excited".

"A lot of players were very anxious about this tour some months ago, but that anxiety has turned to real excitement," Greenberg said.

"We understand our contribution and our responsibility to the global game."
