Former US first lady Melania Trump said on Tuesday (January 4) that she would auction a famed white hat she wore in 2018, with accompanying physical and digitized NFT drawings.

The three "important one-of-a-kind signed items" commemorate an April 2018 state visit by French President Emmanuel Macron to Washington -- the first of the Trump presidency.

Bidding for this lot called the "Head of State Collection" will be held online between January 11 and 25, using the cryptocurrency Solana (SOL).

According to her website, where the auction was announced, bidding will begin at $250,000, currently equivalent to 1,416 SOL.

French-American designer Herve Pierre made the wide-brimmed hat at the request of Mrs Trump, who wore it as she accompanied French first lady Brigitte Macron around Washington.

The autographed collection also includes physical and digital paintings of Trump wearing the hat, both created by French artist Marc-Antoine Coulon.

The announcement states that a "portion" of the proceeds will go towards scholarships for children &nbsp;in foster care to learn computer skills.

Trump's office did not immediately respond to an email by AFP inquiring about the size of the portion that will be donated.&nbsp;

In her first public project since leaving the White House, Trump announced last month that she would be joining the crypto trend by launching her own platform to sell NFTs (non-fungible tokens).

According to reports, the doll never went into mass production as the Queen’s mother thought that the toy made her daughter look “too chubby.” &nbsp;

The blonde-haired and blue-eyed toy was made in 1929. Only very few of the prototypes reportedly exist today.

All the collection of dolls belonged to Betty Fox from Nottinghamshire, who died in 2019 aged 95.

Daniel Agnew, from Special Auction Services, told the BBC that the whole doll collection is worth between £40,000 ( US $45,000 approx) and £60,000 (US $67,000 approx) , while the Princess Elizabeth toy has been valued at £500 to £800.

Agnew said that the doll did not receive royal approval&nbsp;and it was not a big seller at that time.&nbsp;

Speaking about Betty Fox, Agnew said, “She bought all sorts of oddities and made them&nbsp;lovely clothes. She was a farmer's wife with four sons. She had a full life and this was her time - she would take herself off and make clothes and buy dolls."

He said the dolls were “all over” the farmhouse.

&nbsp;Agnew added that Fox’s sons told him that in the 1960s she would put advertisements in the local paper asking people for dolls, which she would pay £5 for.

The collection will be sold as part of a three-day online auction from Monday to Wednesday.

Crypto investors lose out to massive crowdfunding effort in $43mn auction of US Constitution's original copy

The first part of an art collection owned by New York real estate developer Harry Macklowe and his ex-wife Linda Burg that was put on sale after their bitter divorce fetched $676 million at auction at Sotheby's Monday night.

In just two hours, the auction in New York saw a parade of 35 modern and contemporary works by artists such as Warhol, Rothko, Koons, Picasso and Giacometti go under the hammer.

The $676 million total was the highest single evening sale for Sotheby's, and with the second part of the collection to be sold in spring 2022, the total could surpass the record set by the Rockefeller collection sold in 2018 at Christie's for $835 million.

Between 200 and 300 people were allowed to attend the sale at Sotheby's headquarters, after several virtual seasons owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Two lots were tipped to be the most expensive items of the evening, but in the end it was a painting by American expressionist Mark Rothko (1903-1970), titled "No. 7," which won with a sales price of $82.4 million, fees and commissions included, the second highest price for one of his works.

It nudged out "Le Nez" ("The Nose"), a bronze sculpture by Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966) which fetched $78.3 million.

Both works were purchased remotely by Asian collectors, Sotheby's said.&nbsp;

In a sign of the buyers' appetite, a total of four works sold for more than $50 million.

An example of Jackson Pollock's black paintings, titled "Number 17, 1951," sold for $61.1 million, a new auction record for the American artist who died in 1956, while a massive work by abstract painter Cy Twombly went for $58.8 million.

The dog, which is of Shiba Inu breed, is called Deng Deng. Around seven years ago, the animal had been left at a pet training centre and his owner never returned. &nbsp;

His website touted the tools to be "the most shocking of Holocaust items". It was projected that the pins would be sold for $30,000 to 40,000

Bidding reached $3,400 by Wednesday, when Tel Aviv District Court granted a request by survivors to order the auction halted pending a November&nbsp;16 hearing on whether it should proceed. Tzolman's website was amended to show the sale had been suspended.

More than 1.1 million people, most of them Jews, were killed at Auschwitz, among a number of camps run by Nazi Germany on occupied Polish soil during World War Two. It was the only facility that tattooed inmates.

Israel has no law against private sales of Holocaust relics. A court spokesman's statement did not specify the legal basis for Wednesday's injunction.

Yad Vashem, the world Holocaust remembrance centre in Jerusalem, said it should have possession of items like the auctioned dies.

"The trade of these items is morally unacceptable and only encourages the proliferation of counterfeits," said Dani Dayan, chairman of Yad Vashem.

Interviewed before the court injunction, Tzolman said he was the grandson of Holocaust survivors who had been tattooed. He defended the auction - from which he would take a 25% commission - as a means of ensuring the dies reached "the right hands".

"The seller is determined to sell any way necessary," he said. "We received calls from tens of people who want to bid on this item and donate it. Each one noted a name of a different museum related to the Holocaust."

Tzolman said the dies had been certified as having come from Auschwitz. He did not share such documentation with Reuters.

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's website says some Auschwitz tattoos were applied by stylus and others using "a special metal stamp, holding interchangeable numbers made up of needles approximately one centimeter long".

The Auschwitz Memorial in Poland said photographs of the dies appeared similar to those in its collection.

"Later in his life in 1858, there's a wonderful letter that he writes to his eldest son saying young Lenny was dissecting at his microscope and he said 'Oh Papa, I should be so glad of this for my whole life'. It's wonderful to have that family connexion of Charles Darwin just before he becomes internationally famous."

Darwin published his groundbreaking work "On the Origin of Species" in 1859.

The microscope will be offered at Christie's Valuable Books &amp; Manuscripts auction on December&nbsp;15, and has a price estimate of 250,000 - 350,000 pounds ($343,050 - $480,270).

Mughal-era diamond and emerald-laden specs may fetch $3.5 million in auction

On August 11, a 28-ounce slice of the cake from the day Prince Charles made the late, great Lady Diana a princess will be auctioned.

The cake is expected to sell for around $700, or 500 British pounds.&nbsp;

The slice is from one of the 27 cakes served at the wedding on July 29, 1981.

Over 750 million people tuned in to watch the century's most-watched televised wedding, in which the Archbishop of Canterbury famously said, "Here is the stuff of fairy tales."&nbsp;

The cake was presented to Moyra Smith, a member of the Queen Mother's Clarence House staff.

Smith stored it in a flowered cake tin with a handwritten note on the lid that read: "Handle with Care - Prince Charles and Princess Diane's (sic) Wedding Cake," signed and dated 29/7/81.&nbsp;

The cake was sold to a collector by Smith's family in 2008, but it is up for sale again on August 11.

It is projected to sell for between £318 and £697 and will include an order of service, ceremonial details, and a royal wedding breakfast programme.&nbsp;

The cake was presented to Moyra Smith, a member of the Queen Mother's Clarence House staff. Smith stored it in a flowered cake tin with a handwritten note on the lid that read: "Handle with Care - Prince Charles and Princess Diane's (sic) Wedding Cake," signed and dated 29/7/81. The cake was sold to a collector by Smith's family in 2008, but it is up for sale again on August 11. The one that is being auctioned now was acquired in 1814 by Sir Michael Shaw-Stewart. The hat was then handed down generation to generation until now when it is being auctioned.

The hat will be auctioned in the month of September.

Churchill kept the painting for 40 years before offering it in 1961, four years before his death, to his friend the Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis, Phillips Deputy Chairman Jean-Paul Engelen told AFP.

The tycoon was so proud of his gift that he hung it in a place of honor -- behind the bar of his yacht -- alongside works by Vermeer, Gauguin, Le Greco and Pissarro.

This super yacht, named "Christina" after Onassis's daughter, was a former Canadian Navy frigate, nearly 100 meters long. It had been a part of the Normandy landings before Onassis bought the ship post-war for $34,000.

A 1933 US gold coin that was never issued after Franklin D. Roosevelt removed America from the gold standard sold for a record $19.51 million at a Sotheby's auction in New York Tuesday.

The auction house described the 1933 Double Eagle, the last US gold coin made and intended for circulation, as "one of the most coveted coins in the world" and it didn't disappoint.

The $20 coin, designed by the American sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, sailed past its pre-sale estimate price of between $10 million and $15 million.

It also smashed the record for the most expensive coin in the world, set by a 1794 Flowing Hair silver dollar that sold for $10 million in 2013.

The Double Eagle has an image of Lady Liberty on one side and an American eagle on the other.&nbsp;

The 1933 Double Eagles were the last American gold coins intended for circulation by the United States Mint but were never legally issued for use.

That year, President Roosevelt removed the United States from the gold standard in an effort to lift America's battered economy out of the Great Depression.

All of the coins were ordered to be destroyed, apart from two which were given to the Smithsonian Institution.

However, in 1937, several of the coins appeared on the market, sparking a Secret Service investigation in 1944 that ruled that the coins had been stolen from the US government and were illegal to own.

Prior to the probe, one of the coins was purchased and mistakenly granted an export license, Sotheby's said in its notes.

It ended up in the coin collection of King Farouk of Egypt. When Sotheby's tried to auction the Double Eagle in 1954, the US Treasury successfully had it withdrawn.

The coin's whereabouts were then unknown until 1996 when it was seized during a Secret Service sting at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York.

A five-year legal tussle ensued and it was decided that the coin could be privately owned.

Other Double Eagles that have surfaced have been ruled property of the United States following cases that have even gone to the Supreme Court.

The coin bought Tuesday is therefore the only 1933 Double Eagle allowed to be legally sold.

In 2002, it established a new world auction record for any coin at the time when designer Stuart Weitzman bought it for $7.59 million.

A hand-written letter by the scholar and genius Albert Einstein, in which he had jotted down his famous E=mc2 equation, has been auctioned for more than $1.3 million.

E=mc2 is one of the most famous and path-breaking equations given by Einstein. However, the scientist had hand-written this equation only four times throughout his life, as per Einstein Papers Project at the California Institute of Technology and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The auctioned letter was one out of the four letters.

This letter was the only one present in a private collection and was very recently made public. The auctioneers had estimated the letter to sell at a price of nearly $400,000. However, the final price ended up being nearly three times more than it was expected, RR Auction explained.

Two love letter signed by the late US president, John F Kennedy are being auctioned at the&nbsp;Boston-based RR Auction house.

The letters are the only pieces of documented love affair between Kennedy and the Swedish aristocrat Gunilla von Post.

These letters were sent by Kennedy and were penned by the former president on the United States Senate letterhead in 1955 and 1956.

Signed as "Jack", in the letter from 1955, Kennedy has expressed eagerness to meet von Post again very soon. The two had first met in Cannes in 1953 through a chance meet.

"I am anxious to see you. Is it not strange after all these months? Perhaps at first it shall be a little difficult as we shall be strangers—but not strangers—and I am sure it will all work and I shall think that though it is a long way to Gunilla—it is worth it," the letter reads.

In the 1956 letter, he even mentioned von Post getting married in the 1956 letter. “If you don't marry come over as I should like to see you. I had a wonderful time last summer with you. It is a bright memory of my life—you are wonderful and I miss you,” his letter read.

Their relationship was made public by von post in a memoir titled “Love, Jack”, published in 1997, in which she had documented her connection with the former president. She had broken off contact with Kennedy after her engagement.

In the memoir, she claimed to have spent a week with Kennedy in Sweden in August of 1955, after which the former president tried to put an end to his ‘happy marriage’ and bring von post to the US. The two later met, only once, in 1958 at a gala at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City while she was pregnant with her first child.

The letters have now been put up for auction after they were found in von Post’s possession after her death in 2011.

Proceeds will go to the private European rocket company Space Cargo Unlimited, which launched 12 bottles of Petrus 2000 on a voyage to the International Space Station in November 2019, part of a series of experiments in viticulture and microgravity.&nbsp;

The company said its so-called Mission WISE marked the world's first private applied space research programme.&nbsp;

The dozen bottles of Petrus were shuttled back to Earth from the space station in January this year aboard a SpaceX cargo capsule after spending nearly 440 days, or about 186 million miles (300 million km), in orbit.&nbsp;

The wine returned to Bordeaux, where a bottle was opened for a blind taste test at the Institute for Wine and Vine Research by a dozen leading connoisseurs, who compared it with controlled samples of the same vintage Petrus that had stayed on Earth.&nbsp;

The experts, including Jane Anson, a writer for the wine magazine Decanter, reported a subtle but clear difference between the two.&nbsp;

"From previous experience of this wine, this particular bottle seems more evolved than I would expect from a 21-year-old bottle of Petrus 2000," Decanter quoted Anson as saying.&nbsp;

"It is beautiful and nuanced, with fine tannins and a sense energy."&nbsp;

She rated both samples 98 points.&nbsp;

As per Heritage Auctions house, the sold copy was the finest copy that was professionally graded for auction.

The selling price for this game copy exceeded the $114,000 which was sold last year, after being produced in 1987.

The outfits include the coordinating gold leather costumes worn by the three "Survivor" singers during a VH1 television tribute to Diana Ross in 2000, and the trio of futuristic metallic red and silver leather jumpsuits the women wore in their "Independent Women Part 1" music video that was the theme song for the 2000 movie "Charlie`s Angels." 
"These three outfits are so iconic and represent such an important song," said Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien`s Auctions. 
 
The dozens of costumes, most of which were designed by Beyonce`s mother Tina Knowles Lawson, are expected to fetch between $600 and $10,000 each at the three-day auction in Beverly Hills on June 11-13. 
 
Julien`s said the outfits were donated by the families of the Destiny`s Child singers after spending years in storage. A portion of the proceeds will benefit MusiCares, the charitable arm of the Recording Academy that has helped musicians who are struggling because of the coronavirus pandemic. 
 
Destiny`s Child, one of the most influential female groups of early 2000s, went through several lineups and officially split in 2006. Beyonce went on to forge a huge solo career.
