The other special thing about the Stradivarius violin is the presence of precious gems on its body. When it comes to the Stradivarius, just 1100 of them exist in the world and among them, only 12 are known to have such gems adorned on them, according to the post on the Christie’s website.

The violin has a flower and vine design on the fiddle and about 500 ivory diamonds on its body.

According to the listing, this was one of the best inlaid violins made by Stradivari and after keeping it for 55 years, the legendary violinmaker decided to sell it to Samuel Hellier of Wombourne, England.

“Having handled countless Stradivaris, including some of the finest examples, this is without a doubt one of the most exciting, beautiful and impressive instruments in existence. This violin epitomizes, more than most, the vision of Stradivari’s ability to develop things forward; a reason why he deserves his place in the zenith as the unsurpassed violin maker of all time,” the statement from Christie’s London read.

The proceeds will go towards a literary advocacy group called PEN America who recently published a report that 1,586 books were banned by schools around the US between July 2021 and March 2022.

The “unburnable” copy will be one of its kind and it was tested by Atwood herself with an actual flamethrower. &nbsp;The novel, which speaks of a dystopian world order where women are subjugated, will be auctioned by Sotheby's New York on Wednesday with a high estimate of $100,000.

“The Handmaid’s Tale” was also one of the books which were banned in certain schools because of its controversial subject matters, according to CNN.

"'The Handmaid's Tale' has been banned many times," Atwood said in a press release. "Let's hope we don't reach the stage of wholesale book burnings, as in 'Fahrenheit 451'," she added, referencing the acclaimed 1953 novel in which books are destroyed to preserve a totalitarian version of America. "But if we do, let's hope some books will prove unburnable -- that they will travel underground, as prohibited books did in the Soviet Union."

According to the Reuters report, the word ‘philosopher’s’ was misspelled on the back cover of this particular copy and on the 53rd page of the book, the phrase “one wand” was repeated twice.

“There were a few things that they seemed to get wrong in the book production,” Mark Wiltshire, the co-curator of the exhibition, was quoted as saying by Reuters in the report.

The sale broke the previous record for sports memorabilia set by the original autograph manuscript of the Olympic Manifesto from 1892, which went for $8.8 million in 2019. It was purchased by a private European collector with a bid of $1,151,467.40. It was way more than the expected bid of $551,000, as per United Press International. &nbsp;

Dated December 7, 1959, the receipt is a part of Klein's imaginary art series ‘Zones of Immaterial Pictorial Sensibility’. In it, buyers would see vacant rooms filled with "pictorial sensibility in its pure state," as per Sotheby's. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Football legend Diego Maradona's daughter claimed that her father's 'Hand of God'&nbsp;shirt which is up for auction is not the one that the Argentine wore during his infamous goal against England at the 1986 World Cup.

The jersey which is up for auction was reportedly worn by the iconic No 10 when he scored his infamous "Hand of God" goal against England at the 1986 FIFA World Cup.

England's Steve Hodge became the lucky player who swapped the jersey with the Argentinean great, after the match.

The shirt has now been put up for auction by the former Nottingham Forest, Tottenham and Aston Villa midfielder Hodge and is expected to fetch £4 million (USD5m).

"It's not the shirt my father wore in the second half. I'm sure Hodge doesn't have it, and I know who does. I don't want to say who has it, because that's crazy," Goal.com quoted Diego Maradona's daughter, Dalma as saying.

"It's our word against that ex-players. I don't think he needs the money either unless he auctions it off for a good cause. It would be good if the Argentine Football Association bought it," said Maradona's ex-wife, Claudia Villafane.

The shirt worn by Diego Maradona when he scored his infamous "Hand of God" goal against England at the 1986 World Cup is expected to sell for at least 4 million pounds ($5.23 million), auctioneer Sotherby's said on Wednesday.

The shirt is owned by former England midfielder Steve Hodge, who swapped shirts with Maradona after Argentina won the match 2-1 thanks to two goals by the forward, the second a solo effort considered to be one of the greatest ever scored.

It was Hodge's attempted back pass that Maradona chased before using his hand to push the ball past England goalkeeper Peter Shilton for the first goal.

An auction site in southern France plunged into chaos after a local Gabonese community held protest against the auction of a 19th-century wooden carved mask that was sold for 4.2 million euros (US $ $4.6 million).

Activists in Montpellier disrupted the auction on Saturday saying that whoever bought the mask was receiving stolen goods.

The rare wooden “Ngil” mask is used in ceremonies by the Fang ethnic people of Gabon.

The distinctive shape of the Ngil masks is believed to have played a huge influence on the work of famous European artists including Picasso and Modigliani.

“It’s a case of receiving stolen goods,” a man describing himself as a member of the Gabonese community in Montpellier exclaimed from the back of the auction room, surrounded by half a dozen compatriots, AFP reported.

“We’ll file a complaint. Our ancestors, my ancestors, from the Fang community, we will recover this object”, the protester added, describing the mask as a ‘colonial ill-gotten gain’,” he was quoted as saying.

Notably, the base price of the mask was set at 300,000-400,000 euros and nobody was expecting to fetch even a tenth of the sum it was sold for.

According to the auctioneer in charge of the sale, Jean-Christophe Giuseppi, this piece belonged "to the secret society of the Ngil 'vigilantes' who roamed the villages to flush out troublemakers, among whom were individuals suspected of witchcraft."

Giuseppi said the auction was "entirely legal", as far as he was aware.

The demonstrators were later escorted out of the auction hall calmly by security guards, but their protest continued against the sale of African works of art.

According to reports, Saturday's auction also included a Congolese chair which sold for 44,000 euros.

The flat was bought by the previous owner for GBP 103,500 in May 2017 and was&nbsp;rented out for&nbsp;800&nbsp; pounds per month.

As per report in The Guardian, the current tenant of the property lives elsewhere and visits the microflat a couple days in a week for work.

The 19-year-old batter notched 229 runs in just four matches at a remarkable average of 76.33 in the recently-concluded marquee event.

"This is an outcome of that effort of 5-6 years. When a 14-year-old young talent came up to us, and we supported him at that time, and then he goes on to become the captain of India U-19 team, and wins the World Cup, and is back into our fold."

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) CEO Venky Mysore on Saturday said that his franchise has two solid captaincy options in the form of Pat Cummins and Shreyas Iyer.

KKR picked up Cummins for Rs 7.25 crore and Iyer for Rs 12.25 crore in the ongoing IPL mega auction here in Bengaluru."First of all, delighted with how the first session went for us.

To get back Pat Cummins at that price, actually, we thought he would go at a higher price so we are delighted with that. Obviously, Shreyas is a quality Indian batter, so that's fantastic and we are very excited," said Mysore while replying to an ANI query during a virtual press conference.

"This mega auction is always a big challenge, especially when two new teams are there. We know that there will be a lot of competition, we know that some franchises will be having more money, and that's when all the expertise and all the auction experience will count," Amre in an official release.&nbsp;

The record bidding, which started at $330,000 and soared over $3 million, came on the first day of Heritage Auctions' four-day comic event in Dallas, Texas.

“This page was the big reveal teased on the cover! This is where Peter Parker actually got his spiffy new black costume,” Heritage Auctions said in its description of the artwork for page 25 of the issue.

“But... it’s a costume with a secret! Because it very soon turns out to be alive and have its own agenda. This is the origin of the character Venom!”

The previous record for an interior page of a US comic book was $657,250 for art from a 1974 issue of “The Incredible Hulk” that featured a tease for the first appearance of Wolverine.

The copy was graded 6.0 by comic book grading authority CGC. Two other copies of the world's most famous comic book issue with a higher grade have previously sold for more at auction, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The page’s sale comes a month after the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home which has smashed box office records across the globe despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

But when an auction house in New York undertook an analysis to study the painting, they discovered an intriguing image that left everyone baffled — the portrayal of Madonna and Child hidden beneath the paint layers.

Speaking to CNN, Chris Apostle, the senior vice president and director of Old Master paintings at Sotheby's in New York, believes it to be an abandoned composition of a “Madonna of tenderness” (a type derived from Greek icons), in which the Madonna intimately cradles the head of the baby Christ against her own, cheek to cheek.

He said the facial features, particularly the nose, eyes and laughing mouth, which he identifies as belonging to the Christ Child, are very visible in the infrared image, if rotated upside down.

He explained that such a type of under-drawing was common during Renaissance times.

Apostle said that the Italian painter must have discontinued the Madonna painting in the early 1500s and used the drawing panel to create “an extraordinary composition” of Christ, “one which reflects the demi-millennial religious angst of Italy at this time.

The new work is tentatively dated around 1500, when predictions of the apocalypse and hopes for personal salvation had reached a particular level of intensity, he said.

Believed to have been painted in the late 15th century, ‘The Man of Sorrows’ is described as a masterful work of Botticelli who was said to be influenced by the Dominican friar Girolamo Savonarola and adopted a style characterized by Christian symbolism and visionary spirituality.

According to experts, the portrait of the resurrected Christ reveals an important coda to Botticelli’s well-known earlier career, while also encapsulating the artist’s singular style with a modern and human portrayal of Christ.

Three people have been arrested following an investigation into an app that apparently seemed to demean Muslim women by using their morphed pictures for an online fake auction.

While there was no actual ‘auction’ or ‘sale’ taking, the purpose of the app seemed to be to humiliate and intimidate the targeted women, many of whom are active social media users.

The action was taken following multiple complaints from prominent women who claimed that their morphed photos were used on an open source app called GitHub platform.

The app was called Bulli Bai, a derogatory term to describe Muslim women.

Ismat Ara, a journalist targeted by the app, said in a police complaint filed on Sunday that it was an attempt to harass Muslim women.

“The said ‘GitHub’ is violent, threatening and intending to create a feeling of fear and shame in my mind, as well as in the minds of women in general, and the Muslim community whose women are being targeted in this hateful manner," said the complaint, which Ara posted on social media.

Women victims had demanded the arrest of those behind such an act and Shiv Sena party MP Priyanka Chaturvedi had also made a complaint to Mumbai Police's cyber wing.

Following the outrage, three people were arrested. The first arrest was made from India’s southern Bengaluru city where a 21-year-old engineering student, Vishal Jha, was taken into custody.

The second arrest was of a 19-year-old woman, Shweta Singh, from Uttarakhand state. According to the police, the girl was said to be the main culprit in the case.

Then in the early hours of Wednesday, another person, Mayank Rawal (21), was arrested.

Meanwhile, a similar case emerged on Thursday where the focus of the target veered towards the Hindu women.

A channel created on the cross-platform Telegram, showcases morphed photos of Hindu women.

Information and Technology minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Twitter said, “Channel blocked. Government of India coordinating with police authorities of states for action.”
