One of the other valuable objects retrieved from the shipwreck was the key to the treasure room which held tons of gold coins and it was sold for over $103,200. An 1849 Colt pocket pistol was sold for $30,000 while a gold coin dating back to 1856 was bought in the auction for $43,200.&nbsp;

When taxes and fees were added on, the final price stood at 14.6 million francs ($14.9 million), the auction house said later. The previous record was held by another&nbsp;Schumacher-driven Ferrari, an F2001 model sold by Sotheby's in New York in 2017 for $7.5 million.

The final price, offered by an unidentified telephone bidder from Europe after a bidding war of more than 40 minutes, far outstripped expectations, with the auction house estimating before the sale that the car would fetch up to 9.5 million Swiss francs.

It is "one of the most significant Formula One cars of all time", the auctioneers said.&nbsp;Schumacher, who has not been seen in public since suffering serious injuries in a skiing accident in 2013, raced nine times in the car.

- 'Very important car' -

He won five Grands Prix with it in the 2003 season and drove it when he clinched the title in Japan. "It's one of the Ferraris with the most victories in the constructor's history, so it's a very important car in the history of motor racing," Vincent Luzuy, from the Sotheby's branch dealing with luxury car sales, told AFP. Designed by Rory Byrne and Ross Brawn, the F2003-GA featured a longer wheelbase to improve aerodynamics, he explained.

The model was brought in at the Spanish Grand Prix, the fifth race of the 2003 season. Chassis 229 is by far the most successful of the six F2003-GAs that were built.&nbsp;Schumacher&nbsp;drove it to victory in Spain and also won the Austrian, Canadian, Italian and US Grands Prix in the car. He also claimed pole position in Spain, Austria and Italy in the vehicle, and the fastest laps in Austria, Italy and the United States.

The car powered&nbsp;Schumacher&nbsp;to his sixth F1 title -- a total that saw the German overtake the five won by Argentina's Juan Manuel Fangio in the 1950s. It also helped Ferrari win a 13th constructor's championship -- the Italian team's fifth in a row.

Schumacher's Ferrari was sold during Sotheby's Luxury Week, which began last Friday and where a range of sparkling jewels, pricy watches and designer handbags are going under the hammer. But a&nbsp;spectacular blue diamond, expected to provide the grand finale to the jewellery sale and estimated to fetch up to 15 million Swiss francs, went unsold later on Wednesday.

That 5.53-carat "fancy vivid blue" cushion-shaped diamond is part of the De Beers Exceptional Blue Collection -- a group of eight rare fancy blue diamonds with a total value of more than $70 million being sold in Geneva, New York and Hong Kong.

Sotheby's told AFP the gem was "an exceptional stone in every sense" and "attracted significant interest" before the sale. "While we didn't get to see it sell in the room tonight, we are confident it will find a new home very soon," it added.

Another piece expected to draw attention, and bids, was an emerald and diamond bracelet made in the 1850s, which once belonged to French empress Eugenie, the wife of emperor Napoleon III. It has been estimated at between 60,000 and 80,000 francs.

Sotheby's is already on a roll, having sold the 11.15-carat Williamson Pink Star pink diamond in Hong Kong last Friday for HK$453.2 million ($57.7 million), setting a record for price per carat paid at auction for any diamond or gemstone, the auction house said. Pink diamonds are only found in a few places and fewer than 10 percent weigh more than one fifth of a carat, and the big ones are some of the most in-demand on the global market.

"It is extremely rare and to have a collection of eight it is super exciting," said jewellery specialist at Sotheby's Geneva, Marie-Cécile Cisamolo. The diamonds will be offered at auction in Geneva, New York and Hong Kong and the first one will be offered in the Swiss city on Nov. 9.

The dazzling stone, which is mounted on a ring flanked by a large white diamond on either side, was auctioned in the Magnificent Jewels at the Hotel des Bergues, as part of Christie's Luxury Week of sales.&nbsp;

Before being auctioned in Geneva, it was put up for exhibition in New York, Shanghai, Taiwan, and Singapore.&nbsp;

It was earlier estimated that the ‘Fortune Pink’ diamond would fetch between $25 million and $35 million.&nbsp;

Speculations are rife as to how these diamonds obtained the pink colour. There are reports which suggest that a structural defect known as plastic deformation caused these diamonds to absorb light differently, and a result, the gems got their pink hue.&nbsp;&nbsp;

According to Christie’s, the first pink diamonds ever recorded were found in India’s Golconda mines in the 16th Century, and later in Africa, Australia, Brazil, and Russia.&nbsp;

This particular copy hasn't been seen at an auction for over 125 year and thus it is being described as 'extremely rare' by Sotheby's. The last time it came out in public light was 35 years ago at a Stanford University exhibition.&nbsp;

Haupert said he relied on Stevenson’s expertise, saying, “He’s seen everything under the sun. I trust him to confirm that they are an authentic pair from the 1880s.”&nbsp;

Both are now planning to sell the jeans, with offers not anything less than $150,000.&nbsp;

The jeans were first discovered several years ago by Michael Harris, a self-described denim archaeologist, in an abandoned mineshaft in the American West.&nbsp;

The auction house was informed that it belonged to the seller's grandmother who was a Parisian collector "in the last century."

According to the auction house, a French soldier part of a unit of 30 soldiers had taken possession of the watch.&nbsp;The timepiece was then reportedly resold and passed down through several generations until now, BBC quoted the assessment by the auction house.

However, Jewish leaders condemned the auction that took place this week in Maryland saying that it had little to no historical value.

In an open letter signed by 34 Jewish leaders, the auction was termed "abhorrent". They also demanded that other Nazi items to be taken down from the auction.

“Whilst it is obvious that the lessons of history need to be learned — and legitimate Nazi artefacts do belong in museums or places of higher learning — the items that you are selling clearly do not," said Rabbi Menachem Margolin, chairman of the European Jewish Association wrote, according to BBC.

However, auction house's president&nbsp;Bill Panagopulos&nbsp;defended the auction saying that the buyer is a European Jew.

"Whether good or bad history, it must be preserved. If you destroy history, there is no proof that it happened,” Senior Vice President Mindy Greenstein told Deutsche Welle.

The one-off edition also includes a brand-new record, which is a combination of the components that are used in CDs and vinyl. The mix of materials promises greater durability and sound quality in comparison to vinyl alone. Burnett, who assisted in the creation of the new format, calls it "the pinnacle of sound" and notes that it can be played on any standard turntable.

Burnett says, "We’re only making one because we view this work as the equivalent of an oil painting," adding that he is hopeful about the future of music that will release in this format, which will help to "develop a music space in the fine arts." According to the Grammy award winner, this enables artists to combat "the devaluing of our work by the commoditization of the internet." Brunette’s award-winning tracks have featured in movies such as ‘O Brother’, ‘Where Art Thou?’ and ‘The Big Lebowski.’&nbsp;

The latest audio format, known as Ionic Original, was initially announced in April this year. It contains "lacquer painted onto an aluminum disc, with a spiral etched into it by music." This technology is implemented in the music industry to make test pressings, which are also called acetates or dubplates. Musicians agree that pressings that are developed in this manner sound far better than vinyl. However, the power of the needle pressing into the lacquer causes them to quickly deteriorate.

"So we started looking into what they use on the Space Station to shield it from the direct light of the sun," Burnett explains. "And we’ve been able to coat the acetate with that, and it removes enough friction that the acetate doesn’t degrade over thousands of plays," he adds.&nbsp;

Because these discs cannot currently be mass-produced, they will probably continue to be valuable collectibles and could be profitable investment opportunities for the future. Burnett expects that they will eventually be widely used. "I don’t look at this as a replacement for anything," he says.

He further added, saying, "I just look at it as another arrow in the quiver for every musician in the world—a whole new way of earning a living that we’ve never had before."

The dolls all sported numbers and information on their bodies which mimicked the tattoos on Jewish inmates at the Nazi concentration camps. According to the auction website, the dolls were made by Polish prisoners of war in the German camp who were rescued and treated by the Red Cross.

According to the auction house, the dolls were bought for a German toy museum who were interested in the style of the dolls and also the history attached to them.

The Birmingham collected inherited the dolls from her grandmother who received them in 1953 while running Birmingham's Dolls' Hospital. According to the auction house, the dolls were quite rare and there were two recorded instances in the past when they were displayed in public.

The first time was during the tour of England by the Women's Institute in the 1950 and later in the 1970s, they were taken out of the family’s estate in order to show them to Anne Frank's father.

There were two more items which were sold at the auction along with the dolls – a Victorian doll's house for around £15,000 and a teddy bear collection for £27,000, the BBC reported.

A portrait of Lucian Freud by the famous artist Francis Bacon is set to be auctioned. It is expected to fetch more than £35 million or USD 42 million. An intriguing aspect of the portrait is its 57-year absence from public view since it was first exhibited, reports Guardian.&nbsp;Bacon is best renowned for his passionate, gritty, and gloomy depictions of the human condition.&nbsp;The 1964 painting depicts Freud seated on a hard bench with his arms extended and his fists clenched, his bare chest exposed, and his face monstrous and disfigured.&nbsp;

Bacon's rigorous study of the human anatomy also had an impact on his art, creating paintings that appear to cover anatomical diagrams and overlay portraits. The 1964 painting captures a moment in Bacon and Lucian Freud's friendship.

In 2018, a natural pearl and diamond pendant of the last queen of France was estimated by the Sotheby's auction house at $1-2 million but was sold for $36 million. &nbsp;

Marie-Antoinette was guillotined in Paris in October 1793 at the age of 37 after the French revolution. &nbsp;

The IPL media rights auction commenced on Sunday (June 12) and has created a huge stir on social media platforms and elsewhere. The auction for media rights for five&nbsp;seasons (2023-2027) has seen the completion of packages A and B. For the unversed, package A for TV rights has been bagged by a broadcaster (not revealed yet) for INR 575 million&nbsp;per match whereas&nbsp;package B for Digital rights has been fetched by someone else for a staggering INR 500 million.

According to Cricbuzz, two different entities have claimed&nbsp;the TV and Digital rights. The entity with the TV rights had even gone ahead and challenged for the digital rights when bids were closed for the latter at INR 480 million. However, the second entity emerged on top and, hence, there&nbsp;can be two different broadcasters in all likelihood for the upcoming IPL seasons, til 2027. As of now, with 1075 million&nbsp;per match, the rights for packages A and B sit at a total of INR 44,075 crore (i.e. 440.75 billion) for the next five-year period for the cash-rich league. The TV rights were purchased for Rs. 23,575 crores whereas&nbsp;the digital has been bought&nbsp;for an unbelievable 20,500 crores.

The auction for package C and package D is still far from over as the media rights auction have now spilled to the third day, which will take place on Tuesday (June 13).

The woman, Charlotte Bischoff van Heemskerck, is a non-practising Baptist. She joined the Dutch resistance during the war and never gave up hope to get this painting back. Now, after six months of getting the painting, she looks to place it up for auction at Sotheby’s in London to ensure her family gets the benefits of the proceeds of the sale. &nbsp;&nbsp;

This much-loved possession of her father Joan Hendrik Smidt van Gelder was firstly placed in her childhood home in Arnhem. Joan was a doctor and director of a children’s hospital in the city. He had gone into hiding on refusing to accept orders from Nazis after Germany’s invasion of the Netherlands in 1940. &nbsp;

After negotiations with the collector, the painting was returned to Bischoff van Heemskerck in 2021. &nbsp;

On seeing it again, the Dutch woman told the Guardian, “I was amazed.” Now, the painting will get auctioned it on July 6 and may fetch from £30,000 to £50,000. &nbsp;
