<p>Ana De Armas is all set to play Hollywood legend, Marilyn Monroe, in a new biopic titled 'Blonde'. While the film's release date is yet to be announced by OTT platform Netflix, it is already creating a lot of buzz for its rating.&nbsp;<br />

The film has been given a rare NC-17 rating which is basically an adults-only rating by the Motion Pictures Association. 'Blonde' is, in fact, the first Netflix film to have got such a rating due to 'some sexual content'.&nbsp;<br />

A month back, the film's director Andrew Dominik while speaking to the media had predicted that the movie would get the NC-17 rating. While speaking to Screen Daily about the film, which is based on a novel by Joyce Carol Oates, Dominik said, "It’s a demanding movie. If the audience doesn’t like it, that’s the fucking audience's problem. It’s not running for public office. It’s an NC-17 movie about Marilyn Monroe, it’s kind of what you want, right? I want to go and see the NC-17 version of the Marilyn Monroe story."<br />

The film also includes a rape scene - which is also mentioned in Oates' novel. Also titled 'Blonde', Oates' novel is a fictionalised take on Marilyn Monroe's life.&nbsp;</p>

<p>If there's one guy who knows how to make an erotic thriller in Hollywood, it's Adrian Lyne.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The British director, 81, practically defined the genre in the 1980s and 1990s with films like "9 1/2 Weeks" and "Indecent Proposal" -- and above all "Fatal Attraction" which gave the world the term "bunny-boiler".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Now Lyne is back after a 20-year break with another steamy tale of marital infidelity, "Deep Water", starring Ben Affleck and Ana De Armas.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The pair briefly dated in real life, though hopefully with less grisly consequences than in the film, in which Armas's character drives her husband crazy with flagrant affairs. &nbsp;</p>

<p>"When I cast them, I did a test in my house in LA," Lyne told AFP in an interview over Zoom.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I didn't know a lot about Ana... but when I saw her work with Ben I could see straightaway that the chemistry was good. It's not about her or him, but them together."</p>

<p>- 'Complicated emotion' -</p>

<p>One thing that has changed since Lyne was last behind the camera is the presence of intimacy coordinators, who try to make sex scenes more comfortable for the actors.</p>

<p>"I was sort of appalled by the notion of it," admitted Lyne.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I don't like the implication that there's a lack of trust between the actors and the director. If you don't have that, you've got nothing. I've got to die for them, and they've got to die for me."</p>

<p>The toughest battle, however, was keeping the unsettling tone of the movie: "Often, studios' instinct is to iron out the bumps in a screenplay, but those are often the most interesting parts," Lyne said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I wanted to do a movie where there's a sort of complicity between them. This is not a happy, conventional marriage. There's a sense of unease."</p>

<p>- 'Incredibly destructive' -</p>

<p>At a time when Hollywood is seen as increasingly puritanical, was it hard for Lyne to get so sexual a story into production?&nbsp;</p>

<p>"People always want to isolate sex and talk about sex in movies, but it's part of everything we do," he said.</p>

<p>The real theme was jealousy, he said, "which is such a complicated emotion -- obviously it's incredibly destructive but there's also an erotic side".</p>

<p>Lyne has been married for almost 50 years, so should his wife be worried about his preoccupation with this theme (his last film was "Unfaithful" with Richard Gere)?</p>

<p>"She's sat right next to me so I have to be careful," he said with a laugh.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I don't know why I do them endlessly. It sounds corny, but I like films where you can put yourselves in the shoes of the actor. I can appreciate 'Dune' or 'The Matrix' or whatever, but I much prefer smaller pictures about you and me."</p>

<p>Nor is there any particular reason why Lyne has been away for two decades -- it is just the reality of movie-making, where projects can take years to finance and sometimes collapse at the last minute.&nbsp;</p>

While speaking to a magazine, Ana said she was "shocked" when director Cary Fukunaga offered her a role in 'No Time To Die' as she associated the character of a Bond girl with beauty standards that go "beyond the normal".<br />

The film marks the fifth and final appearance of franchise star Daniel Craig as the iconic spy James Bond.<br />
<br />
"Bond girls have been portrayed for so many years with a specific type of woman," Ana was quoted as saying.<br />
<br />
The 'Knives Out' star said Fukunaga called her up saying he wanted to cast her but the character was yet to be written.<br />
<br />
"I associate it with some sort of perfection and beauty standards beyond the normal. Things that I didn't match, I was shocked when the director called me to say, 'The character is not written yet but we want you to do it'," the Cuban actor added.<br />

Ana, 31, plays Paloma, a CIA agent assisting Bond, in the film.<br />
<br />
The actor said she wanted to do something different with her character in 'No Time to Die', instead of being "rescued" or "evil".<br />
<br />
"I needed to read that script. And it took a little, but they sent me the scenes. It's important because I want to bring something else to the story," she added.<br />

'No Time To Die' is Daniel Craig's last outing as 007 agent. The film was earlier scheduled to release worldwide in April but has now been pushed to November 12 release in the UK and November 25 release in the US due to the pandemic.</p>
