<p>Writer-actor Sumaira Shaikh, a familiar face in Indian stand-up comedy, has come up with her own stand up special 'Dongri Danger' on Amazon Prime. &nbsp;<br />

Taking pointers from her personal life, the comedy special sees Sumaira aka Baby G, telling stories about road trips, her love for gangsters and how it was growing up in Dongri, a locality in Mumbai among other things.&nbsp;<br />

<strong>Your new special is called 'Dongri Danger'. How did the name come about?</strong></p>

<p>We were confused between many names, like 'Dongi Ki Gundi' and many others but we were sure to stick with Dongri as it was about me growing up in the Mumbai locality of Dongri and all the experiences I've had while growing up there. And So Sumukhi Suresh came up with it an idea of how there is a gangster vibe attached to it and it will help people connect to the show so I decided to go for it.</p>

<p><strong>You said you like gangsters more than fake friends, care to explain why?</strong></p>

<p>The reason I like the gangsters more is because of their honesty, they are upfront. If they like you or even if they don't, there's no hypocrisy in them. People actually call me Baby G on Instagram(laughs). The G stands for gangsters. So, you can call me that. (laughs)</p>

<p><strong>How did this stand up special happen?</strong></p>

<p>The truth is that it’s a dream come true for any comic. Almost, everybody who gets into this profession, their end goal is to record and eventually put it up somewhere. I’m absolutely lucky for Amazon coming on onboard and glad that they said yes. I’m really really excited.</p>

<p><strong>You are preparing for this special for years, isn't it?</strong></p>

<p>Yes, it’s true. Since 2016 I’m preparing for this one when I started doing full-time comedy and all the jokes I have written from 2016 to 2021, till it’s recorded. So it's a dream come true moment for me. My comedic style is a little bit different from others- it's on a different pace and it's honest. It is a dark comedy.</p>

<p><strong>You are a writer, actor and comedian? The one thing you love doing the most</strong></p>

<p>I was a stand up comic first, then an actor and then I became a writer. So, I loved doing writing and standup, their process is sort of similar but as an art form, they both are very different. I loved doing both, in standup the results are quick- right in front of you and in writing there is a lot more hard work involved, you also get a lot of feedback. So, I enjoy the hustle and hard work that is involved in both.</p>

<p><strong>What's in store for the future?</strong></p>

<p>Right now, 'Dongri Danger'. Also, I’m co-creating a show with Sumukhi Suresh and I'm writing a show. Really looking forward to these two.</p>

<p>My family is very funny and there are always jokes going on in the house, that's how I had a vibe of dealing with everything with jokes and humour since childhood. But when I grew up, I realised there's a whole career that one can make of it. That standup is a thing out there. So that's how I came to know about it and I made my way here.</p>

We were confused between many names, like 'Dongi Ki Gundi' and many others but we were sure to stick with Dongri as it was about me growing up in the Mumbai locality of Dongri and all the experiences I've had while growing up there. And So Sumukhi Suresh came up with it an idea of how there is a gangster vibe attached to it and it will help people connect to the show so I decided to go for it. You said you like gangsters more than fake friends, care to explain why? The reason I like the gangsters more is because of their honesty, they are upfront. If they like you or even if they don't, there's no hypocrisy in them. People actually call me Baby G on Instagram(laughs). The G stands for gangsters. So, you can call me that. <p>Amazon Prime Video on Tuesday announced that the upcoming horror film Chhorii, headlined by actor Nushrratt Bharuccha, will make its debut in November.</p>

<p>Produced by T-Series, Crypt TV and Abundantia Entertainment, Chhorii is the remake of critically-acclaimed 2017 Marathi horror Lapachhapi.</p>

<p>Filmmaker Vishal Furia, who directed the original, has helmed the Hindi remake as well.</p>

<p>The official handle of Amazon Prime Video took to Twitter and shared an announcement teaser of the film. "The new face of horror now coming to haunt us. #ChhoriiOnPrime, this November," the tweet read.</p>

She’s a battered but not broken doctor, who serves as the Director of Social Welfare, Chitra. Despite a character with no real layers—her forte—Sen Sharma puts on a good show, like any fabulous actor would. <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/hope-more-people-from-jammu-kashmir-find-a-way-to-bollywood-mohit-raina-226434">Mohit Raina</a> does pretty boy well, but here, he’s set out to act. And you can tell. As a ball of restless energy, Dr. Kaushik Oberoi’s anxiety is contagious and his calm exterior, matter-of-factly demeanour makes him the right fit for this high-octane drama-thriller. We were sold.&nbsp;</p>

But, he and his writers, miserably failed to&nbsp;chalk out rounded characters, leave their Bollywood-ness out of the equation&nbsp;and the end result is a series that drags&nbsp;on for far too long, with little meat to fall back on.</p>

'Mumbai Diaries 26/11' review: The horror of being a medic in terror-torn Mumbai, shown tepidly

<p>Imagine a new tide of modernity—coupled with humane undertones—taking over the ever-consuming Internet, the end product you are most likely to get is the textbook definition of The New York Times-meets-Amazon’s dangerously successful ‘Modern Love’ franchise.</p>

After an uproarious entry into the digital space with its predecessor—Anne Hathaway has made us all cry, Dev Patel turned some into hopeless romantics—the second season of this part-book-part-column adaption had heightened the excitement (and expectations) for the digital populace so much so that it was the second most-anticipated phenomenon to have come out this year. First being <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/lifestyle/news-kit-harington-sings-drops-of-jupiter-live-and-fans-are-loving-every-bit-of-it-405326">Kit Harington’s</a> clean-cut hairdo and Irish accent in it, of course.</p>

Frankly, the route to ‘Modern Love 2’ is way more adventurous this time around. But, thankfully, certain intricacies stay intact. Say, for example, a strong commentary around the alarming topic of mental health and the need to normalize it. In episode six, ‘In the Waiting Room of Estranged Spouses’, a war veteran sees life as a battlefield and his spouse, a mission. Sure enough, both his family life and mental health take a major hit as he starts to conjure up ‘bad things’ in his mind. The track is aptly not so much about the love lane—although, heart wrenching—as it is about recognizing the problem in hand and addressing it. Garrett Hedlund internalizes the trauma-filled pride of a soldier, grappling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in this John Crowley directorial. Similarly, another lesser known yet widely experienced disorder that no one seems to be talking about, Delayed Sleep-Phase Syndrome, takes the centre stage in Zoe Chao’s episode two, ‘The Night Girl Finds A Day Boy’, love attack by Jesse Peretz. “In love with a vampire,” is a recurring comment that comes up frequently when a charmer-types falls in love with a man who is on nature’s clock, and she isn’t. To pass a judgment on these grave issues would be criminal, hence, the hard pass.&nbsp;</p>

If the title is ‘Modern Love’, can the different interpretations of it—in the times of Canva and Corona—stay far behind? Absolutely not! Two consecutive episodes, EP three and&nbsp;four, swing between the two extreme ends of love spectrum. One latches on to the ‘Before Sunset-y’ vibe, while the other is more along the lines on ‘Sex Education’: available on Amazon’s streaming rival, Netflix. Titled ‘Strangers On A (Dublin) Train’, two Irish poeple stumble upon one another on their way home for what is presumably a short, ‘stupid’ break. “The madness will be over soon (referring to the initial stages of lockdown,” says a suave Kit Harington, here seen as ad wiz Michael. The tomfoolery that we see in the face of adversity and unpredictability is almost cute. This third episode is the clichéd version of say-hello-to-medieval-romance and we have seen better, but, we will make do for two reasons: Kit Harington (there’s a ‘Game of Thrones’ joke in it, if you are looking) Irish-ness and the fact that we had all once tricked ourselves into believing that it will all be over soon. ‘A Life Plan For Two, Followed By One’ is, however, a different ballgame. There’s sex, jealousy, crass comedy and tongue waggling. The ‘Judas &amp; The Black Messiah’ star, Dominique Fisher, is a comedian feeding off rapper jokes. Fun, feisty, she just wants to be loved by her knight in shining armor. Her first love fails, like most first loves do. This Marta Cunningham production is quasi-modern. The comedy troupe works, love and friendship? Not so much!</p>

Episodes five and seven are deep dives into sexuality and identification of the ‘one’ who’s somewhere buried in layers of Instagram DMs and Tinder swipes. Andrew Rannells’ ‘How Do You Remember Me?’ has been plucked straight out of the media houses’ 2019-published book by the same name. Two people, one one-night stand, and tragedy befell. You see each other from across the road—years later—what are the odds of this happening in New York City? Still, it does. It’s the movies, duh! Marquis Rodriguez’s deep-set eyes, literally, moves the narrative forward. You know these secret lovers wouldn’t reunite or break into a long embrace after all that history, but you still want to wait it out, just in case. This one hits out of the park, at least for some. “Am I?... Maybe This Will Tell Me’ is about an outwardly confident-‘maybe’ bisexual kid whose go-to solution for real problems is the Holy Google. Tap, click, repeat. Celine Held &amp; Logan George’s story starts out well; full of promise, and then reduces into a short film that couldn’t cram in all its crucial plot points. That teenage rush, of wanting to learn to live more before living, withers away as flawed storytelling takes over.&nbsp;</p>

A disheveled Minnie Driver secretly pines for her dead first husband—she talks to him in his rundown car, and sniffs his sweater when no one’s watching—before, finally, bringing herself to sell his overbearing Stag. The agony of having loved and lost, and loved again, shines through Driver’s saggy skin and sad-looking eyes. This, and the finale episode, is inarguably the finest in ‘Modern Love 2’. Staying true to its essence, after all, ‘Modern Love’ is built on the foundation of faulty humans and troubled decisions, is ‘Second Embrace, With Hearts and Eyes Open’—the last one for this year. Sophie Okonedo’s amicably parted with her husband, while he is acing the ‘Best Daddy’ game, she seems to be ‘getting worse’. Despite the grin-able camaraderie, and a lot of hook-ups-between-exes, the climax leaves one with a sense of hopelessness—pretty much what we have been feeling all-year long, aren’t we?&nbsp;</p>

After all, as uptight Spence comes to relealise in episode six, “Life never goes as per plan.”&nbsp;</p>

Imagine a new tide of modernity—coupled with humane undertones—taking over the ever-consuming Internet, the end product you are most likely to get is the textbook definition of The New York Times-meets-Amazon’s dangerously successful ‘Modern Love’ franchise.

Imagine a new tide of modernity—coupled with humane undertones—taking over the ever-consuming Internet, the end product you are most likely to get is the textbook definition of The New York Times-meets-Amazon’s dangerously successful ‘Modern Love’ franchise. After an uproarious entry into the digital space with its predecessor—Anne Hathaway has made us all cry, Dev Patel turned some into hopeless romantics—the second season of this part-book-part-column adaption had heightened the excitement (and expectations) for the digital populace so much so that it was the second most-anticipated phenomenon to have come out this year. First being Kit Harington’s clean-cut hairdo and Irish accent in it, of course. Frankly, the route to ‘Modern Love 2’ is way more adventurous this time around. But, thankfully, certain intricacies stay intact. Say, for example, a strong commentary around the alarming topic of mental health and the need to normalize it. In episode six, ‘In the Waiting Room of Estranged Spouses’, a war veteran sees life as a battlefield and his spouse, a mission. Sure enough, both his family life and mental health take a major hit as he starts to conjure up ‘bad things’ in his mind. The track is aptly not so much about the love lane—although, heart wrenching—as it is about recognizing the problem in hand and addressing it. Garrett Hedlund internalizes the trauma-filled pride of a soldier, grappling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in this John Crowley directorial. Similarly, another lesser known yet widely experienced disorder that no one seems to be talking about, Delayed Sleep-Phase Syndrome, takes the centre stage in Zoe Chao’s episode two, ‘The Night Girl Finds A Day Boy’, love attack by Jesse Peretz. “In love with a vampire,” is a recurring comment that comes up frequently when a charmer-types falls in love with a man who is on nature’s clock, and she isn’t. To pass a judgment on these grave issues would be criminal, hence, the hard pass. If the title is ‘Modern Love’, can the different interpretations of it—in the times of Canva and Corona—stay far behind? Absolutely not! Two consecutive episodes, EP three and four, swing between the two extreme ends of love spectrum. One latches on to the ‘Before Sunset-y’ vibe, while the other is more along the lines on ‘Sex Education’: available on Amazon’s streaming rival, Netflix. Titled ‘Strangers On A (Dublin) Train’, two Irish poeple stumble upon one another on their way home for what is presumably a short, ‘stupid’ break. “The madness will be over soon (referring to the initial stages of lockdown,” says a suave Kit Harington, here seen as ad wiz Michael. The tomfoolery that we see in the face of adversity and unpredictability is almost cute. This third episode is the clichéd version of say-hello-to-medieval-romance and we have seen better, but, we will make do for two reasons: Kit Harington (there’s a ‘Game of Thrones’ joke in it, if you are looking) Irish-ness and the fact that we had all once tricked ourselves into believing that it will all be over soon. ‘A Life Plan For Two, Followed By One’ is, however, a different ballgame. There’s sex, jealousy, crass comedy and tongue waggling. The ‘Judas & The Black Messiah’ star, Dominique Fisher, is a comedian feeding off rapper jokes. Fun, feisty, she just wants to be loved by her knight in shining armor. Her first love fails, like most first loves do. This Marta Cunningham production is quasi-modern. The comedy troupe works, love and friendship? Not so much! Episodes five and seven are deep dives into sexuality and identification of the ‘one’ who’s somewhere buried in layers of Instagram DMs and Tinder swipes. Andrew Rannells’ ‘How Do You Remember Me?’ has been plucked straight out of the media houses’ 2019-published book by the same name. Two people, one one-night stand, and tragedy befell. You see each other from across the road—years later—what are the odds of this happening in New York City? Still, it does. It’s the movies, duh! Marquis Rodriguez’s deep-set eyes, literally, moves the narrative forward. You know these secret lovers wouldn’t reunite or break into a long embrace after all that history, but you still want to wait it out, just in case. This one hits out of the park, at least for some. “Am I?... Maybe This Will Tell Me’ is about an outwardly confident-‘maybe’ bisexual kid whose go-to solution for real problems is the Holy Google. Tap, click, repeat. Celine Held & Logan George’s story starts out well; full of promise, and then reduces into a short film that couldn’t cram in all its crucial plot points. That teenage rush, of wanting to learn to live more before living, withers away as flawed storytelling takes over. 'Malik' is closer to my heart, says director Mahesh Narayanan

<p>The year 2020 has triggered a paradigm shift in the way films are made, shown and received by the viewers. &nbsp;We all know about the lockdown effect on the Bollywood blockbusters &amp; superstars and the effect the STATUE game wreaked on Masala-land. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Salman Khan – Bollywood’s Most&nbsp;Wanted&nbsp;– with trademark swag and dare did something no production house or star dreamt of doing. He released his ambitious Radhe across several digital platforms &amp; theatres, at home &amp; abroad. While reports everywhere indicate that it probably was the DABANGG dasher's most disappointing release in years, to the critical eye and astute Bollywood observer, does this signal the beginning of the end for our star-system?</p>

<p>Is the unconditional love and support from their fans, across decades, suddenly on tricky ground? &nbsp;Has the combination of the lockdown [out-of-sight out-of-mind] and enriching OTT fare [vigorous, vibrant, varied] altered perceptions, taste &amp; choice of what is good and what-is-not? Will Radhe be an example for Bollywood to pull back and deeply introspect about their traditional, rock-solid affair with stars &amp; content? &nbsp;Has the rising chorus mirrored the fact that their moment of truth, litmus test and hour of reckoning has indeed arrived?&nbsp;</p>

<p>And finally, has the time come for mainstream Bollywood to unleash their [forever in the dark] brilliant galaxy of actors &amp; celebrate them through powerful, attention-worthy storm-centre roles that portray, with passion &amp; purpose, the linear truth, not glamorously inane armpit rhetoric &amp; hysterical posturing dramabaazi?</p>

<p>For some time now, powered by a magnificent mafia of young, new, daring, exciting directors &amp; story-tellers, this new lot has served notice that to ring out the old and ring in the new is their agenda. &nbsp;It was never about confronting, challenging or competing with the superstars or the movie moguls. &nbsp;It was about not being slung out as lonely sentries against the gated Bollywood border. About not being perceived as a one-off curiosity without garnering a decent audience base. This they did by clearly defining the difference between the mainstream and their content profile.</p>

<p>Bollywood manufactured movies. OTT made films. Bollywood sold fantasy and escapism, OTT was into realism with engagement. Bollywood avoided controversy, OTT embraced it. Bollywood strip-mined genres and made movies out of cookie-cutters OTT was passionate about expressing personal vision. &nbsp;</p>

<p>If Bollywood made movies by committees, their product was the result of individual sensibilities. While Bollywood hired directors to do a job, they worshipped at the altar of a process that popularised art in intelligent and relatable fashion. While Bollywood went for spectacle, action and special effects, OTT worked on an intimate scale focussing on misc-en-scene. If Bollywood pandered to popular taste, OTT worked without any set audience in mind, only inner calling. If Bollywood products were embedded in a system that cushioned risk, OTT films flew without a safety net. &nbsp;</p>

<p>So, basically, the OTT films exist in the huge and available space between the shots of Bollywood movies!</p>

<p>To the evolved lover of both Hollywood &amp; European cinema, the similarities are striking. While the world’s most glamorous movie industry Hollywood – like our Bollywood – was&nbsp;preoccupied with all that is grand and big, offering seductive star dazzle that paralysed the senses, European films – like OTT – worked with small budgets, outside hierarchies, producing content that was visually &amp; thematically innovative. Harking back to the older times like our present-day powerhouse actresses, [Neena Gupta, Rasika Duggal, Tisca Chopra, Divya Dutta, Tilottoma Shome, Sahana Goswami and of course the amazing Konkona Sen Sharma, among others] before Simone Signoret’s Room at the Top, could a head honcho imagine that a middle-aged, plump woman could also be desirable?</p>

<p>Before Jeanne Moreau, the idea of a sexy woman with small bosom and experience written on her face was unthinkable! Individuality was the key and names like Anouk Aimee, Monica Vitti &amp; gang were names to reckon with.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Not typically STAR types, they were womanly in their luminous and unique personalities. Wasn’t American society flexible in allowing women alternates to traditional role–playing and life-styles? How does one account for discrepancies in cultural association, myths and movie images? Did Americans polarise their women as Good or Evil? Or in their exuberant lack of introspection did Hollywood caricature and categorise, overplay &amp; overdress?&nbsp;</p>

<p>European films [like our OTT films] didn’t give such easy signals because they broke barriers and silos to reveal themselves as complex creatures containing &amp; combining every element of unpredictability. Audiences thus, saw a range of emotions – not histrionics or performance – and were a riveted party to her fears &amp; fantasies. Nothing stagnated and no one was readable at a glance &amp; yet movies like those compelled us by expanding &amp; sharing the female complex identities, rather than limiting them. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Sophia Loren was a dazzling example. Had it not been for Two Women, - and despite both American &amp; British Academy awards - she would still be wandering about in tattered blouses flashing a tempestuous surface [Boy on a Dolphin, El Cis, Lady L] ignored by the establishment despite the European made Boccacio 70, Yesterday, Today &amp; Tomorrow, Marriage Italian Style, Sunflower, The Priest’s Wife. &nbsp;</p>

<p>At the end of the day, OTT- like European heroines- present her like a woman, not a little girl and refused to surrender to clichés. Since its less sugar n’ spice and more fire n’ ice, viewing it could be – for the uninitiated – like undergoing surgery without anaesthesia! Its cathartic because it cuts you while it cures, enriches and empowers you, re-focusing on the human viscera, probing the dynamics of women’s relationship with each other [Ajeeb Dastans, Lipstick under my Burkha] giving it a vitality &amp; magic, unknown in mainstream fare. &nbsp;Their perception, conversation and gestures indicate an intelligence which star-driven projects can never dream of because introspection without snappy wit or glibness leans heavily on their concept of mass-entertainment &amp; femininity.&nbsp;</p>

<p>These actors&nbsp;represent anti-box office intellect. They care two hoots for designer clothes, exotic locales or big box-office leading men/directors. Bollywood, like Hollywood, therefore continues to &nbsp;be totally zapped about how to use these amazingly gifted stars just like the sublime Moreau and Liv Ullman were used as “imported products for exotica appeal” in Monte Walsh &amp; 40 Carats.</p>

<p>So what’s the future? Have these heroines fighting for liberation [equality, choice, opportunity] brought on their own quarantined isolation? They refuse to be fantasy friends and refuse to confuse fame with talent. For them, Cinema is the best way at getting back at life. Everyone creates their own signposts. For these OTT stars the invisible frontier has been lowered, no matter how little. Let’s hope and pray, the angels are on their side.&nbsp;</p>

Salman Khan – Bollywood’s Most Wanted – with trademark swag and dare did something no production house or star dreamt of doing. He released his ambitious Radhe across several digital platforms & theatres, at home & abroad. While reports everywhere indicate that it probably was the DABANGG dasher's most disappointing release in years, to the critical eye and astute Bollywood observer, does this signal the beginning of the end for our star-system? Is the unconditional love and support from their fans, across decades, suddenly on tricky ground? Has the combination of the lockdown [out-of-sight out-of-mind] and enriching OTT fare [vigorous, vibrant, varied] altered perceptions, taste & choice of what is good and what-is-not? Will Radhe be an example for Bollywood to pull back and deeply introspect about their traditional, rock-solid affair with stars & content? Has the rising chorus mirrored the fact that their moment of truth, litmus test and hour of reckoning has indeed arrived? And finally, has the time come for mainstream Bollywood to unleash their [forever in the dark] brilliant galaxy of actors & celebrate them through powerful, attention-worthy storm-centre roles that portray, with passion & purpose, the linear truth, not glamorously inane armpit rhetoric & hysterical posturing dramabaazi? For some time now, powered by a magnificent mafia of young, new, daring, exciting directors & story-tellers, this new lot has served notice that to ring out the old and ring in the new is their agenda. It was never about confronting, challenging or competing with the superstars or the movie moguls. It was about not being slung out as lonely sentries against the gated Bollywood border. About not being perceived as a one-off curiosity without garnering a decent audience base. This they did by clearly defining the difference between the mainstream and their content profile. Bollywood manufactured movies. OTT made films. Bollywood sold fantasy and escapism, OTT was into realism with engagement. Bollywood avoided controversy, OTT embraced it. Bollywood strip-mined genres and made movies out of cookie-cutters OTT was passionate about expressing personal vision. If Bollywood made movies by committees, their product was the result of individual sensibilities. While Bollywood hired directors to do a job, they worshipped at the altar of a process that popularised art in intelligent and relatable fashion. While Bollywood went for spectacle, action and special effects, OTT worked on an intimate scale focussing on misc-en-scene. If Bollywood pandered to popular taste, OTT worked without any set audience in mind, only inner calling. If Bollywood products were embedded in a system that cushioned risk, OTT films flew without a safety net. So, basically, the OTT films exist in the huge and available space between the shots of Bollywood movies! To the evolved lover of both Hollywood & European cinema, the similarities are striking. While the world’s most glamorous movie industry Hollywood – like our Bollywood – was preoccupied with all that is grand and big, offering seductive star dazzle that paralysed the senses, European films – like OTT – worked with small budgets, outside hierarchies, producing content that was visually & thematically innovative. Harking back to the older times like our present-day powerhouse actresses, [Neena Gupta, Rasika Duggal, Tisca Chopra, Divya Dutta, Tilottoma Shome, Sahana Goswami and of course the amazing Konkona Sen Sharma, among others] before Simone Signoret’s Room at the Top, could a head honcho imagine that a middle-aged, plump woman could also be desirable? Before Jeanne Moreau, the idea of a sexy woman with small bosom and experience written on her face was unthinkable! Individuality was the key and names like Anouk Aimee, Monica Vitti & gang were names to reckon with. Not typically STAR types, they were womanly in their luminous and unique personalities. Wasn’t American society flexible in allowing women alternates to traditional role–playing and life-styles? How does one account for discrepancies in cultural association, myths and movie images? Did Americans polarise their women as Good or Evil? Or in their exuberant lack of introspection did Hollywood caricature and categorise, overplay & overdress? European films [like our OTT films] didn’t give such easy signals because they broke barriers and silos to reveal themselves as complex creatures containing & combining every element of unpredictability. Audiences thus, saw a range of emotions – not histrionics or performance – and were a riveted party to her fears & fantasies. Nothing stagnated and no one was readable at a glance & yet movies like those compelled us by expanding & sharing the female complex identities, rather than limiting them. Sophia Loren was a dazzling example. Had it not been for Two Women, - and despite both American & British Academy awards - she would still be wandering about in tattered blouses flashing a tempestuous surface [Boy on a Dolphin, El Cis, Lady L] ignored by the establishment despite the European made Boccacio 70, Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow, Marriage Italian Style, Sunflower, The Priest’s Wife. At the end of the day, OTT- like European heroines- present her like a woman, not a little girl and refused to surrender to clichés. Since its less sugar n’ spice and more fire n’ ice, viewing it could be – for the uninitiated – like undergoing surgery without anaesthesia! Its cathartic because it cuts you while it cures, enriches and empowers you, re-focusing on the human viscera, probing the dynamics of women’s relationship with each other [Ajeeb Dastans, Lipstick under my Burkha] giving it a vitality & magic, unknown in mainstream fare. Their perception, conversation and gestures indicate an intelligence which star-driven projects can never dream of because introspection without snappy wit or glibness leans heavily on their concept of mass-entertainment & femininity. These actors represent anti-box office intellect. They care two hoots for designer clothes, exotic locales or big box-office leading men/directors. Bollywood, like Hollywood, therefore continues to be totally zapped about how to use these amazingly gifted stars just like the sublime Moreau and Liv Ullman were used as “imported products for exotica appeal” in Monte Walsh & 40 Carats. So what’s the future? Have these heroines fighting for liberation [equality, choice, opportunity] brought on their own quarantined isolation? They refuse to be fantasy friends and refuse to confuse fame with talent. For them, Cinema is the best way at getting back at life. Everyone creates their own signposts. For these OTT stars the invisible frontier has been lowered, no matter how little. Let’s hope and pray, the angels are on their side. <p>Amazon Prime has partnered with National Theatre to stream four of its highest-profile recorded stage shows in the UK and Ireland.</p>

<p>Launching on June 11, the shows will include Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s ‘Fleabag’, which she performed at Wyndham’s Theatre in the West End, and Danny Boyle’s staging of ‘Frankenstein’, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller.</p>

<p>The other two performances are ‘Hamlet’ with Cumberbatch, directed by Lyndsey Turner and filmed at the Barbican in 2015, and ‘Ian McKellen On Stage’, in which McKellen performs extracts from some of his most iconic performances.</p>

The first season consisted of 10 episodes, which released on the streamer on December 11, last year. `The Wilds` was created by Sarah Streicher and stars Rachel Griffiths (Gretchen Klein), Sophia Taylor Ali (Fatin Jadmani), Shannon Berry (Dot Campbell), Sarah Pidgeon (Leah Rilke), Erana James (Toni Shalifoe), Jenna Clause (Martha Blackburn), David Sullivan (Daniel Faber), Troy Winbush (Dean Young), Helena Howard (Nora Reid), Reign Edwards (Rachel Reid) and Mia Healey (Shelby Goodkind). The series is co-produced by Amazon Studios and ABC Signature, a part of Disney Television Studios. Streicher also serves as executive producer on the series alongside Amy B. Harris, Jamie Tarses, and Dylan Clark.

The original film, which was released in 2014, became a cult classic and was selected as the Austrian entry for the best foreign-language film at the Academy Awards.`Goodnight Mommy` is based on a tale of twin brothers who, when sent to stay with their mother, are surprised to find her swathed in bandages from a recent procedure.<br />

As her behaviour grows increasingly erratic and unusual, the twins become convinced she is an imposter. Their suspicion sets off a roller-coaster of emotional mind games and misunderstandings between mother and her children, that eventually explodes with irreparable and heartbreaking consequences.<br />

Matt Sobel who is known for his works in `Take Me To The River` is directing the flick from a script by Kyle Warren. David Kaplan, Joshua Astrachan, Valery Guibal and Nicolas Brigaud-Robert are producing. Watts will executively produce the film with the original film`s directors Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz.<br />

Playtime acquired the remake rights and developed the new film with Playtime.
