<p>2025 is going to be bloodier! As we all gear up for the new year, Amazon Prime has revealed that the much-awaited <em>Pataal Lok</em> season 2 is set to release in the very first months of the year. </p></p>
<p>Season 2 of the Jaideep Ahlawat-starrer series is set to release on Prime Video on January 17, 2025. </p>
<p>On Monday (Dec 23), the OTT giant also unveiled the exciting news with an intriguing poster featuring Ahlawat </p>
<p>Sharing the poster, they wrote in the caption, ''Gates open this new year ?#PaatalLokOnPrime, New season, Jan 17.''</p>
<p>Apart from Ahlawat, the drama also stars Ishwak Sing and Gul Panag. Tillotama Shome, Nagesh Kukunoor and Jahnu Barua are the new entries in season 2.</p>

<p>Slain actor Johny Wactor's ex-fiancee broke down in tears in a video begging the authorities to track down the actor's killers. Wactor, who featured in the show <em>General Hospital, </em>was shot dead during a botched robbery in Los Angeles.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a video posted on Instagram and TikTok, Hollywood actress Tessa Farrell sobbed as she said the suspects “shot the wrong guy” and hit out at crime rates in California.<br />

“If the person who did this, if you’re watching, I’m sorry, but you shot the wrong guy,” she says through tears.</p>

<p>“You can get a real job. I know the job market’s hard but we’re all in it together. You don’t have to steal, especially take a life over it.”</p>

<p>The actress went on to say “human life is disregarded too easy”, saying it is time we “make changes as a community” and “support each other”.</p>

<p>“Maybe that’s what Johnny’s gift is for us, maybe he’s gifting that to all of us,” she said.</p>

<p>Farrell appealed to fans for help to “find these killers.”</p>

<p>“These criminals can’t keep being on the street and they can’t keep being sent back and have no repercussions for their actions,” she added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“It’s not ok, this can’t keep happening. So many lives are being lost, just us not being smart - we have to be smarter as a community.”</p>

<p>In the video, she also called for tougher laws to tackle crime in Los Angeles.</p>

<p>The 37-year-old actor was reportedly escorting his colleague to her car after their shift at a rooftop bar when they came across the thieves.</p>

<p>Wactor's brother Grant told The Daily mail that his brother believed the suspects were just towing his truck. “So he said something to the guys, like, ‘Hey, are you towing?” he said.<br />
“And then once he turned around, he saw what was happening and he put his coworker behind him. And that’s when they shot him.”</p>

<p>The suspects fled in a vehicle. No arrests have yet been made, no suspects have been named and the investigation is ongoing.</p>

<p>That code already mandates providers to exercise caution on content that could incite violence or be sensitive for religious reasons.</p>

<p>The meeting was attended by Amazon, Disney, Netflix, Reliance's broadcast unit, Viacom18, and Apple TV.</p>

<p>The companies and the ministry did not respond to requests for comments.</p>

India asks OTT platforms to review content for obscenity and violence before streaming

<p>The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed a lawsuit against Amazon on Wednesday (June 21) and accused the e-commerce giant of enrolling millions of people on Amazon Prime, its paid subscription, without consent and making it hard to cancel the membership. The lawsuit has been filed in a court in Seattle. It alleges that "Amazon has knowingly duped millions of consumers into unknowingly enrolling in Amazon Prime".</p>

<p>The FTC said Amazon used "manipulative, coercive or deceptive user-interface designs known as 'dark patterns' to trick consumers into enrolling in automatically renewing Prime subscriptions."</p>

<p>Once a customer opts for Amazon Prime, he can avail of free shipping on millions of products and can get discounts, besides access to Amazon's movies and music streaming services.</p>

<p>In the US, Prime members pay USD 139 per year. This drives much of Amazon's sales volume. Across the world, Prime has more than 200 million members.</p>

<p>The FTC said Amazon generates $25 billion in revenue from Prime subscriptions annually and that "one of Amazon's primary business goals - and the primary business goal of Prime - is increasing subscriber numbers."</p>

<p>According to the lawsuit, Amazon changed its cancellation process in April under immense pressure from the FTC but "violations are ongoing".</p>

<p>The watchdog is seeking civil penalties and permanent injunctions to prevent future violations.</p>

<p>Reuters said that there was no immediate comment from the company.</p>

<p>The FTC has been investigating sign-up and cancellation processes for the Prime program since March 2021.</p>

<p>"Amazon tricked and trapped people into recurring subscriptions without their consent, not only frustrating users but also costing them significant money," FTC Chair Lina Khan said in a statement.</p>

<p>According to the complaint, customers who tried to cancel their Prime membership were faced with multiple steps to actually accomplish the task of cancelling. The complaint further said that Amazon used the term "Iliad Flow" to describe the process, referencing Homer's epic poem about the lengthy Trojan War.</p>

<h2><strong>Lawsuit against Google</strong></h2>

<p>The lawsuit against Amazon came just a day after a separate lawsuit against search-giant Google. Gannett, the largest newspaper publisher in the US and publisher of USA Today, filed a complaint against Google in a New York court accusing it of trying to monopolise the digital advertising market.</p>

<p>The publishing giant has thus alleged that Google reaps "exorbitant monopoly profits" while leaving publishers with "dramatically less revenue".</p>

<p>"Digital advertising is the lifeblood of the online economy," Gannett Chief Executive Mike Reed said in an opinion published in USA Today. "Without free and fair competition for digital ad space, publishers cannot invest in their newsrooms."</p>

<p>Dan Taylor, vice president of Google Ads replied, "These claims are simply wrong." In a statement quoted by AFP, Taylor said that publishers have many options for advertising tech and that "they keep the vast majority of revenue" when they use Google.</p>

<p>Movie theatre owners are confident that previously streaming-focused tech giants Apple and Amazon are now "committed" to putting their films on the big screen -- even if Netflix still declines to -- their trade body's new president told AFP.<br />

This week's CinemaCon event in Las Vegas, where owners of multiplex chains and arthouse screens gather annually, took place in an optimistic mood, after three nervous years blighted by the pandemic and the rapid rise of streaming.</p>

<p>Back in those dark days, some 2,000 US theatres were forced to close forever, while even traditional Hollywood studios like Warner and Disney were skipping theatres and putting major films on HBO Max and Disney+ streaming first.</p>

<p>But since big screens reopened, even Apple and Amazon have pivoted to giving movies like <em>Air</em>,&nbsp;<em>Napoleon</em>&nbsp;and <em>Killers of the Flower Moon</em>&nbsp;extended runs in theatres.</p>

<p>The two tech giants reportedly each plan to spend $1 billion per year on movies headed first for the big screen.</p>

<p>"I think their commitment to the theatrical experience is amazing," said Michael O'Leary, who takes over the National Association of Theater Owners (NATO) this week. "We're excited to see where it goes. We're confident that they're committed to this enterprise."</p>

<p>According to O'Leary, there has been a recognition that movies that are released in theatres first will eventually be more successful on streaming.</p>

<p>"People are aware of what's playing in the theatres, and they're more likely to watch something on a streaming service that played in the theatre," he said.</p>

<p>It is an argument theatre owners have been pushing for years, but the pandemic offered a "crash course in whether or not a purely streaming model would work," he said.</p>

<p>The industry's drive to boost subscriber numbers at any cost -- a hallmark of the so-called "streaming wars" -- has recently dissipated, with investors and markets demanding more focus now on making money.</p>

<p>"There's been a recognition not just in the marketplace, but also on Wall Street, that you have to have elements that allow you to make a profit," said O'Leary. "And theatrical space is one of those places you can do that."</p>

<p>"JRR Tolkien created a world which, by definition, is multi-cultural. A world in which free peoples from different races and cultures join together, in fellowship, to defeat the forces of evil. Rings of Power reflects that," the actors said in a joint statement, also released on the show's Twitter.</p>

<p>"Our has never been all white, fantasy has never been all white. Middle-earth is not all white," the statement said, referring to the medieval-inspired universe in which Tolkien's story takes place, populated by humans, hobbits, dwarves and elves among others.</p>

<p>Reportedly, starting September, members of Walmart+ will gain access to Paramount's $4.99 plan that includes commercials. The Walmart+ membership costs $12.95 per month or $98 per year which includes a free six-month subscription to the audio streaming platform Spotify as well as free shipping and discounts on fuel.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“With the addition of Paramount+, we are demonstrating our unique ability to help members save even more and live better by delivering entertainment for less, too," said&nbsp;Chris Cracchiolo, Walmart+ General Manager.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Paramount's roster of shows and movies includes brands such as Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, and BET. It has movies like&nbsp;Top Gun: Maverick, The Godfather, Star Trek and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood amongst others. Moreover, the platform has exclusive rights to the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and the National Women's Soccer League.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Walmart is competing with Amazon in the segment. The latter has its own streaming platform named Prime Videos which appears to be a major driving force when it comes to the membership numbers.</p>

<p>However, according to estimates provided by different data-collection firms, the number currently stands anywhere between 11 million and 32 million.</p>

<p>Reportedly, Walmart had been in talks with several big streaming giants such as Walt Disney and&nbsp;Comcast. However, it settled with Paramount+ in the end.</p>

<p>According to reports,&nbsp;Paramount+ has 43.3 million subscribers around the world which pales in front of the numbers put forth by Disney+ earlier this month.&nbsp;</p>

So, we cast all former navy SEALS to play my men in the combat inside that series of tunnels in Syria, shown in the first episode."</p>

<p>"We didn't have to teach them anything, except some of the tricks and trades of the acting, like how to hit a mark, where the camera is placed. But their physicality and body movement are entirely authentic," he added.&nbsp;</p>

So, we cast all former navy SEALS to play my men in the combat inside that series of tunnels in Syria, shown in the first episode." "We didn't have to teach them anything, except some of the tricks and trades of the acting, like how to hit a mark, where the camera is placed. But their physicality and body movement are entirely authentic," he added. She has been giving glimpses of her work regarding the project since the shooting began, and in a recent post, the actor gave some details and said that she has "almost" wrapped up the shoot.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In an image shared by the Desi Girl on Instagram Story, the actor showed us a pink cart picture&nbsp;in which she wrote a special note for the cast and crew of the project. For the past few weeks, Priyanka has been shooting for the series in Atlanta with her team, while earlier, the filming of the upcoming science-fiction was done in London.&nbsp;</p>
