<p>The child’s father, Michael Jones, 33, told Cranston Police that he was in his room when he accidentally fired his 9mm gun that pierced the wall of the room and hit the boy in the adjacent room.</p>

<p>Police said Jones was inside a second-floor bedroom of his apartment handling a loaded firearm.</p>

<p>The child’s grandfather, who lives on the first floor, called 911 for medical help.</p>

“I was just trying to get to my vote and the door that’s usually open wasn’t open, it was closed. I didn’t mean to cause confusion . . . I didn’t know it was going to trip the whole building,” he added.</p>

It would be interesting to see how he is treated and what he was trying to obstruct when it came to the American public,” McCarthy stated.<br />

“I think ethics should look at this, but this is serious. This should not go without punishment. This is an embarrassment. You are elected to be a member of Congress,” said McCarthy adding, “You pulled a fire alarm, in a (matter) of hours before the government being shut down, trying to dictate that the government would shut down?”</p>

<p>"Four bodies have been recovered so far" and five others are still stuck under rubble, Henrietta Rushwaya, president of the Zimbabwe Miners Federation, told AFP.</p>

<p>Mine engineer Hussein Phiri confirmed to AFP that rescuers had located the bodies of the five miners stuck under the rubble.</p>

<p>"We can clearly see (five) bodies," he told AFP. "We are convinced all of them are dead."</p>

<p>"It is however difficult to retrieve the bodies because the mine is still collapsing. Each time we try is becoming a threat to our lives as well."</p>

<p>The accident occurred on Friday in Chegutu, about 120 kilometres (75 miles) west of the capital Harare, state television ZBC said, at the Bay Horse Mine.</p>

<p>The Southern African country's Minister of Mines, Soda Zhemu, who had come to oversee the rescue efforts, confirmed that 21 miners had escaped.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Friday morning, "immediately after the collapse, 13 people managed to get out of the mine unharmed", the minister said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"During the night, eight others were rescued."&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>- 'Heartbroken' -</strong></h2>

<p>The minister and the engineer also reported that three other miners were thought to be missing, but their whereabouts were unknown.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Saturday afternoon, several hundred local residents watched in anguish as rescue workers tried to retrieve bodies from the mine.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Women wept as they waited for their husbands or sons to be pulled from the rubble.</p>

<p>"I'm heartbroken," said Vimbai Muchena, 38, whose son was trapped underground.</p>

<p>Johannes Nyautete, 33, was among the miners who escaped the mine.</p>

<p>"The mine started collapsing as soon as I landed on the underground tunnel which starts about 250 metres from the ground. It was around 10 am on Friday," he said.</p>

<p>"We then saw some of our colleagues rushing out of the tunnel and we escaped together.</p>

<p>"It was a traumatising experience."</p>

<p>He said the mine collapsed because there were no safety pillars.</p>

<p>Earlier reports from ZBC had suggested that as many as 18 people could be buried underground.</p>

<p>But Rushwaya said that "at the time of collapse, 13 people were pushed out, alive... and another eight were rescued alive."</p>

<p>The southern African nation has vast reserves of platinum, diamonds, gold, coal and copper. Due to the floundering economy, illegal mining is rife and often takes place under dangerous conditions.</p>

<p>A pickup truck driver came out alive after spending an astonishing five days trapped at the bottom of a treacherous 100-foot ravine in Southern California. The rescue operation was conducted in Kern County, situated approximately 170 kilometres&nbsp;to the north of Los Angeles.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On August 29, 2023, tragedy struck as the driver's vehicle careened off the winding Comanche Point Road. The impact was severe, rendering the driver immobilised amidst the rugged terrain of Kern County's Tehachapi Mountains. Located between the towns of Arvin and Stallion Springs, this remote area became the setting for an awe-inspiring tale of survival.</p>

<p>On the morning of September 2, a passerby made a startling discovery. He spotted the badly damaged pickup truck nestled at the base of the sheer ravine. The Kern County Fire Department received the alert just before 11 am, sparking a chain of events that would lead to an incredible rescue mission.</p>

<p>Once safely retrieved from the ravine's clutches, the injured driver was transported to a designated landing zone, courtesy of the Bakersfield-based Hall Ambulance Service. From there, the critically injured survivor was swiftly airlifted to the hospital by the capable Mercy Air 15 air ambulance.</p>

As per reports, a man jumped into the plunge pool of the Lodhiya Kund waterfall located in a district near the city of Indore and saved one of the occupants, while the other was saved by the people who followed suit.<br />

This was as the girl inside the car and the man reportedly tried to open the door as the car was rolling down.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Subsequently, a man close to the pool can be seen jumping in and swimming towards the car, while others are seen following his suit climbing down from the edge of the rock surface and moving towards the car.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The man in the video who jumped in to save the father-daughter duo was later identified as 26-year-old Sunil Mathew who works in a private firm and was there at the waterfall for a picnic along with his four friends.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I saw a car falling into the waterfall. A man and his 13-year-old daughter, who were the two occupants of the car, were trying hard to get off even as the vehicle was sliding. However, the car fell while the duo was inside,” Mathew told PTI.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He added, “They were drowning. I jumped in and saved the man inside the car. His daughter was saved by those around. I was in shock for sometime looking at the incident but then gathered courage to jump in.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>Mathew said that he was just happy that both father and daughter were saved.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Superintendent of Police Sunil Mehta said the incident took place due to the negligence of the driver. “The car was negligently parked very close to the pool of the waterfall. <p>At least nine people were killed in the Egyptian capital city of Cairo, on Monday (July 17) after a five-storey apartment building collapsed, reported the state media citing local officials, as search and rescue operations continued.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The building was said to be located in the Hadayek el Kobba neighbourhood, around 3.2 kilometres north of central Cairo, a densely built area of informal housing.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The state-run MENA news agency reported that search and rescue teams have recovered at least nine bodies from the rubble.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Additionally, four survivors were taken to the hospital, said the news agency, but their condition was not immediately known. MENA also reported that the local authorities evacuated a neighbouring apartment building.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Local media reports said&nbsp;that the police have since cordoned off the area while rescue teams were seen looking for possible survivors.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity, on Monday, announced that it will give $1,940 (60,000 Egyptian pounds) to the families of the nine victims. The ministry also said that it would deliver aid to the injured and was monitoring the damage to nearby properties due to the collapse of the building.&nbsp;</p>

I think this young man was taken to hospital, that was precautionary. The Honda driver was uninjured. It was not as serious as it could have been,” said Defence solicitor Duncan Campbell.</p>

<p>Sowerby was sentenced to eight-week of suspended imprisonment and was also ordered to complete rehabilitation by working for up to ten days with the probation service. Sowerby also received 60 hours of unpaid work along with a three-year driving ban.</p>

<p>The teenager was earlier involved in a drug-driving offence in February 2022. He was topped by the police and underwent a blood test that indicated that he had used cocaine over the legal permissible driving limit.</p>

<p>The first team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) consisting of 22 members arrived from Balasore Railway Station (BLS). Earlier, a team from Centralised Traffic Control (CTC) of 32 members initiated their operations about 30 minutes before, as per ANI citing officials.</p>

<p>As per the latest developments in the train derailment accident, an additional rescue team of 26 members of the Odisha Fire and Emergency Service was also deployed. The deployed team is equipped with advance rescue equipment of Odisha Fire and Disaster Response Academy Bhubaneswar.
