In Turkey's Hatay province, a multi-vehicle crash has killed at least 12 people while 31 others were injured. Three people as per news agency AP are grievously injured.

The accident, as per reports, happened late on Saturday when a truck crossed into the opposite lane after its driver lost control. It then collided with nine cars and two minibuses, reported state-run news agency Anadolu.

Several of these vehicles, as per the AP report, were parked alongside the road near a fuel station, with loved ones bidding farewell to men departing for Turkey's mandatory military duty.

As per a tweet by Turkey Health Minister Fahrettin Koca, 22 ambulances and three medical teams were dispatched to the scene of the accident in Topbogazali. He also said that after the crash on the Iskenderun-Antakya highway, fires broke out at the scene.

The truck, as per Demiroren, a private news agency, was carrying excavated earthquake rubble. It hit another truck before crossing the highway at around 7 pm&nbsp;local time (1600 GMT).

In February, Turkey was hit by a massive earthquake. Of the 11 affected Turkish provinces, Hatay was one of the worst hit by the February 6th earthquake.

12 killed, 31 injured in multi-car crash in Turkey; victims burnt alive in resulting blaze

A man from Lancaster&nbsp;succumbed to his injuries&nbsp;sustained after he got trapped&nbsp;inside an indoor caving experience at a Lake District climbing centre.&nbsp;On April 22, Carl O'Keeffe, 49, of Lancaster got stuck in a cramped tunnel at Kong Adventure in Keswick. Cave rescue specialists were sent with the emergency teams to free him.

He died at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, on Sunday, reported&nbsp;BBC.

O'Keeffe&nbsp;was at the adventure centre for his niece's birthday celebration on April 22, according to a report by Sky News.

He reportedly fell and got trapped within one of the facility's caves while carrying four kids, spending more than four hours there. Just after 3 o'clock, emergency services were called after the staff failed to save him.

A Kong Adventure Centre spokesperson told The Guardian:&nbsp;“On Saturday 22 April, a member of the public became stuck in the cave system at Kong Adventure."

“Staff tried to help the man and followed all emergency procedures but it became apparent that outside assistance was needed.

“Fire crew, mountain rescue, cave rescue, paramedics and Kong staff then worked to extricate the casualty, who was taken to Carlisle hospital for further treatment.”

At the scene were members of the police, Cumbria Fire and Rescue, Keswick Mountain Rescue, Cumbria Ore Mines Rescue Unit, Great North Air Ambulance, and the North West Ambulance Service's Hazardous Area Response Team.

Parts of the climbing wall were dismantled with the assistance of staff and other visitors to make way for the caving tunnels.

O'Keeffe was transferred to the Cumberland Infirmary's intensive care unit in Carlisle with "crush injuries" after being rescued.

He died&nbsp;from multiple-organ failure, according to a Facebook post by his older sister, Olivia Short. She paid tribute to her “beautiful, intelligent, fascinating brother”.

“At 3 pm today I sat with Carl and said goodbye forever.&nbsp;He was my baby brother and over the last few years became my best friend,”&nbsp;Short wrote on Sunday.

Short, who was beside her brother in the hospital, continued: “It became apparent that the injuries were severe and he would not be able to survive. He was then moved to a private room and I was able to stay with him so that he could die with some dignity."

“I’m broken-hearted,” she said. “As are the rest of our family.”

Meanwhile, a&nbsp;Cumberland Council spokesperson told Mirror that the incident is being investigated.

“We have been notified of an incident that took place at the Kong Adventure Centre, Keswick, and are investigating the matter, as the regulating body."

Joletta Hill, chief deputy for the Montgomery County Coroner's Office confirmed the six deaths from the accidents, reported Reuters. According to the police, the dust from newly ploughed fields took over the highway.&nbsp;

At least two commercial vehicles caught fire “as a result of the crashes,” said Ryan Starrick from Illinois State Police, in a press briefing. He added, “At this time, we have reports of more than 30 people being transported to the hospital and multiple fatalities. The cause of the crash was excessive winds blowing dirt from farm field across the highway leading to zero visibility”.&nbsp;

However, the crash is being placed under further investigation, said the official.&nbsp;Starrick, in a later update,&nbsp;said there were at least six dead and more than 30 people were hospitalised with injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening, reported CNN. Those injured include children and adults who&nbsp;ranged in age from two&nbsp;to 80 years. 
 
The incident took place shortly after 11:00 am (local time). The highway&nbsp; remained closed in both directions several hours later, reported Reuters. The crashes occurred in both the southbound and the northbound lanes.&nbsp;The state police official said the pileup was near the town of Farmersville, over 300 kilometres away from&nbsp;Chicago.&nbsp;

The condition of those injured was not immediately clear. The Illinois Department of Transportation had also said I-55 was closed in both directions between Divernon and Farmersville, Illinois in Sangamon and Montgomery counties. “Traffic is being diverted onto the frontage road. &nbsp;Motorists are urged to take an alternative routes,” said the IDOT.&nbsp;

At least 18 dead, dozens injured as tourist bus in Mexico plunges into ravine

At least 10 people died when a bus in southern Kenya left the road and rolled over several times and fell in a ditch, said the police, to the Associated Press (AP), on Sunday (April 16). The incident took place on Saturday evening when the passengers were on their way back to the coastal city of Mombasa after attending a funeral in the Mwatate area, Taita Taveta County.&nbsp;

Mwatate Police Chief Morris Okul told AP that the driver of the bus had survived the accident and was in the hospital in critical condition. “The survivors told us they were 34 people on board excluding children,” said Okul, as per AP, as children in Kenya often up to the age of 15 often travel sitting on parents’ laps.&nbsp;

According to a statement from the National Police Service in Kenya, the accident occurred at around 8:30 pm (local time) in the Josa area along Wundanyi Mwatate Road. “Onboard the bus were about 34 adult passengers including children from a burial at Mghambonyi area,” said the police.&nbsp;

It added that the accident has claimed the lives of nine females and one male, all adults and 17 people including an infant were “seriously injured” and one person was “slightly injured”. “All were victims taken to Mwatate Sub County Hospital and Moi Level 5 Hospital for treatment,” said the police.&nbsp;

So far, five dead bodies have been identified while efforts are underway to retrieve the “extensively damaged vehicle.” The bus had veered off the road and rolled several times before landing in a ditch around 100 metres from the road.

The area in which the accident took place is also known as the blackspot. The mourners had travelled over 150 kilometres to attend the funeral and were returned in the evening, reported AP.&nbsp;

Okul also told the news agency that the brakes on the bus failed, however, Inspector General of Police, Japhet Koome, said the driver may have been driving on neutral when he lost control.

“There’s a tendency of long-distance drivers freewheeling to save on fuel. This is carelessness because in case of an emergency one has no control,” said Koome.&nbsp;

The incident took place on Saturday evening when the passengers were on their way back to the coastal city of Mombasa after attending a funeral in the Mwatate area, Taita Taveta County. Mwatate Police Chief Morris Okul told AP that the driver of the bus had survived the accident and was in the hospital in critical condition. “The survivors told us they were 34 people on board excluding children,” said Okul, as per AP, as children in Kenya often up to the age of 15 often travel sitting on parents’ laps. According to a statement from the National Police Service in Kenya, the accident occurred at around 8:30 pm (local time) in the Josa area along Wundanyi Mwatate Road. “Onboard the bus were about 34 adult passengers including children from a burial at Mghambonyi area,” said the police. It added that the accident has claimed the lives of nine females and one male, all adults and 17 people including an infant were “seriously injured” and one person was “slightly injured”. “All were victims taken to Mwatate Sub County Hospital and Moi Level 5 Hospital for treatment,” said the police. So far, five dead bodies have been identified while efforts are underway to retrieve the “extensively damaged vehicle.” The bus had veered off the road and rolled several times before landing in a ditch around 100 metres from the road. The area in which the accident took place is also known as the blackspot. The mourners had travelled over 150 kilometres to attend the funeral and were returned in the evening, reported AP. Okul also told the news agency that the brakes on the bus failed, however, Inspector General of Police, Japhet Koome, said the driver may have been driving on neutral when he lost control. “There’s a tendency of long-distance drivers freewheeling to save on fuel. At least five migrants and a Greek motorist were killed in a car crash on a highway near the border between Greece and Turkey, on Saturday (April 15), the local police told the news agency AFP. The car, in question, was carrying 10 migrants when&nbsp;it met with an accident with another vehicle that had a&nbsp;46-year-old driver, who was also killed, at the wheels.&nbsp;

According to the report, the car was carrying migrants whose nationalities were not immediately clear, and was travelling at a high speed on the wrong side of the road to avoid a police checkpoint when it slammed into a four-wheeler, whose driver was also killed, as per media reports. Meanwhile, the other five migrants and the driver were taken to the hospital after sustaining injuries, said the police.&nbsp;

Recently, Greece has witnessed a surge in the number of accidents similar to the one that took place on Saturday. This comes as the Greek authorities have ramped up patrols in the Aegean Sea which has reportedly made it more difficult for migrants to cross River Evros to reach the islands which has since led traffickers to take them&nbsp;by road.&nbsp;

Earlier this year, Greece said it prevented around 260,000 migrants from crossing its border with Turkey in 2022. At the time, Turkey had said that it adhered to international law, but if a migrant qualifies for refugee status they cannot be accused of having broken the law by crossing a border.&nbsp;

Athens does not have the best record when it comes to the issues relating to migrants, as many human rights organisations have accused Greek officials of illegal pushback and sending them back to Turkey. Athens has steadfastly denied these claims.&nbsp;

However, in a bid to reduce the flow of migrants, conservative Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, earlier this month urged the European Union to “seriously consider” providing financial aid to help extend an anti-migrant steel fence along the border with Turkey. 
 
The fence, in question, is a five-metre high steel barrier, currently 38 kilometres long and Athens wants to extend it by 35 kilometres and add a total of 100 kilometres, in the next three years.&nbsp;

Taking to Twitter, President of India Droupadi Murmu shared her condolences for the families of the victims.

As per a PTI report quoting a senior police official, the accident happened around 4:50 am local time (8:20 pm GMT).

"The bus was carrying members of 'Baji Prabhu Vaadak Group' from Mumbai's Goregaon. They were returning to Goregaon after taking part in an event in Pimpri Chinchwad area in the Pune district. The bus had left the venue around 1 am on Saturday," he said.

Raigad Superintendent of Police (SP) Somnath Gharge revealed that the bus' passengers are from Sion and Goregaon in Mumbai and Virar in the neighbouring Palghar district.&nbsp;

The injured have been admitted to the Khopoli Rural Hospital, located around 70 kilometres from India's financial capital Mumbai.&nbsp;

12 killed, 27 injured as bus falls into gorge in Maharashtra's Raigad; President Murmu shares condolences

At least&nbsp;35 people have been killed after the roof of a stepwell collapsed at a temple in Madhya Pradesh's Indore on Thursday (March 30).&nbsp;The stepwell roof at the Beleshwar Mahadev temple could not carry&nbsp;the weight of a large crowd.

As per initial reports, more than 30 people fell into the stepwell of the Shri Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal Temple&nbsp;resulting in a serious accident.&nbsp;

"Total of 35 people died, one missing and 14 people have been rescued. Two people returned home safely after getting treatment. The search operation to trace persons reported missing is underway," Indore Collector Ilayaraja T said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

"The 18 hours long rescue operation started at around 12:30 on Thursday, and is still ongoing," he added.

The incident happened on the day of Ram Navami, an auspicious day as per the&nbsp;Hindu calendar&nbsp;when worshippers throng the temple, reported Zee News.

The temple is situated in Sneh Nagar, one of Indore's oldest residential neighbourhoods, and is run by a private trust. The tragedy might have been avoided had the Indore Municipal Corporation responded to local complaints, reported NDTV.

At least two people died and 28 are missing after a small ferry foundered off the Gabonese coast on Thursday, officials said. The ferry owner on Facebook said that the incident happened around 3:00 and 4:00 am after the vessel reported a "water intrusion" that led to a loss of control.&nbsp;

The port officials told AFP that the "Esther Miracle" ferry was on an overnight trip from the capital city Libreville with around 151 passengers onboard. The official on the condition of anonymity said that 28 people are missing.&nbsp;

A head-on train collision in Greece has killed 57&nbsp;people&nbsp;and injured several, officials said on Thursday as the search for victims continues for a second day. The passenger train, which was reportedly carrying 350 people from Athens to&nbsp;the northern city of Thessaloniki, collided with a freight train just before midnight&nbsp;near the town of Tempe as it was emerging from a highway underpass. Multiple cars of the train derailed, with at least three bursting into flames.&nbsp; 
 
Rescue teams installed floodlights at the spot and searched frantically through the twisted, smoking train wreckage for survivors.&nbsp;

Greek Railroad Workers Union President Yannis Nitsas said eight rail employees were among the dead, including the two drivers of the freight train and two of the passenger train.

Konstantinos Agorastos, governor of Thessaly region, told SKAI TV that a passenger train travelling from Athens to the northern city of Thessaloniki and a cargo train from Thessaloniki to Larissa collided outside the city of Larissa in central Greece.&nbsp;

"The collision was very strong," Agorastos said.&nbsp;

"This is a terrible night," Agorastos added. "It's hard to describe the scene."

Medical officials in Larrisa said at least 25 of those wounded are in serious condition.&nbsp;"The evacuation of passengers is under way in very difficult conditions given the severity of the collision of the two trains," fire brigade spokesperson Vassilis Varthakogiannis earlier said.

The governor said 250 passengers were evacuated safely by rescue officials to Thessaloniki on buses.

SKAI TV showed footage of derailed carriages, badly damaged with broken windows and thick plumes of smoke, with debris strewn across the road.&nbsp;

Rescue workers were seen carrying torches in carriages looking for trapped passengers.

A young man who was evacuated to a nearby bridge told SKAI TV that there was panic in the carriage as people were screaming.&nbsp;

Senior officials said the army has also&nbsp;been contacted for assistance in rescue operations.&nbsp;

The bus had 66 passengers on board&nbsp;when it crashed with a minibus some 400 kilometres (250 miles) west of the capital Panama City, the press statement said.

The bus was transporting migrants who had crossed the Darien Gap -- an inhospitable jungle area bordering Colombia -- westward toward Costa Rica from where they aimed to continue their journey through Central America and Mexico, and ultimately to the United States.

The bus was on its way to a hostel in Gualaca near the Costa Rica border, where the passengers were to have rested before continuing their journey.

Local media said the crash happened as the driver was turning the bus around after missing the hostel.&nbsp;The nationalities of the occupants and the cause of the accident have not been revealed.

President Laurentino Cortizo tweeted his "great sadness" at learning of the accident at Gualaca.&nbsp;"This is regrettable news for Panama and the region," he said, extending his government's condolences to the next of kin.

The Central American country's health ministry said "more than five children" were among the injured.

After the successful rescue operation, people began cheering for the girl.

"We are so glad we could rescue her safely," rescue worker Chanachart Wancharernrung told reporters.

"We have been trying since yesterday afternoon. We worked without sleep. Everyone helped out."

The forensic report stated that victim suffered 40 injuries on her body while Nidhi survived with few minor injuries. The report revealed that traces of blood were found on the wheels and the base of the car. This confirmed that Anjali was indeed stuck beneath the car. It also stated that she was dragged from Sultanpuri to Kanjhawala, and sustained as many as 40 injuries with her ‘brain matter’ missing.

The five&nbsp;accused in the case were produced in Rohini court through video conferencing&nbsp;due to security reasons, as per reports. Police booked the five men for culpable homicide among other sections. A Delhi court on Thursday sent the five accused to four-day police custody. The accused men are Amit Khanna (25), Deepak Khanna (26), Mithun (26), Krishan (27) and Manoj Mittal (27).&nbsp;

Anjali's family refuted claims that Anjali was in ‘drunken state’ while she was riding the scooter. The mother of the 20-year-old daughter and a bread earner for the family called these reports “untrue” allegations. Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) chief told ANI news agency, “I'm not satisfied with Delhi Police's action. I recommend that this case be transferred to CBI. Delhi Police told us they've not recovered Nidhi's phone till now. It's very important evidence, beyond my understanding why is it not with the police till now?”

The police said that a woman who was riding behind the victim on New Year’s Day told the authorities that she escaped from the scene of the accident as she was fearful of legal hassles. The woman, who was referred to as Nidhi, was seen leaving a hotel with the victim around 1:31 AM on January 1 on their scooter.

“She [Nidhi] is cooperating with the police in the investigation. In CCTV footage, Nidhi was seen accompanying the victim just before the incident. She did not sustain any injury,” the police said.

Special police commissioner Sagar Preet Hooda told reporters that the eyewitness account is an important part of the case and this can result in strict punishment for the accused.
