The BCCI men’s selection committee appointed Shubman Gill as the new Test captain. The decision came on the back of Rohit Sharma’s shock Test retirement, forcing the selectors to bring his successor before the away England series. While Rohit and Virat Kohli’s absence from the 18-man squad picked on Saturday (May 24) saw new faces emerging on the Test scene, including Sai Sudharsan and Arshdeep Singh, Gill’s selection begins a new era of Indian Cricket.&nbsp;Gill, 25, will start his captaincy tenure with a challenging tour of England, which also is the beginning of the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. "Both were very contrasting in terms of their style, but it was very inspiring to see both of them working towards a common goal. &nbsp;"You want to be able to win as a captain, and your styles can be different, but they both were very different but also similar in their own sense. Virat bhai was always very aggressive, always wanting to lead from the front with hunger and passion, whereas, Rohit bhai was also aggressive, but you might not see that on their reaction or on their expressions, but he was also someone who was always very attacking on the field,” he continued.

Xabi Alonso returns to Real Madrid as new manager

Real Madrid appointed Xabi Alonso to replace Carlo Ancelotti as coach on Sunday, with the Spaniard to take over from June 1 and lead the team at the Club World Cup. "Xabi Alonso will be the Real Madrid coach for the next three seasons, from June 1, 2025 until June 30, 2028," said Real Madrid in a statement. With veteran Italian coach Ancelotti taking the reins of the Brazilian national team, Madrid secured a deal with former midfielder Alonso, whom they have been linked with for months. Alonso, 43, leaves German side Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the Bundesliga season after finishing second. "Alonso is one of the biggest legends at Real Madrid and in world football," continued Los Blancos' statement. "He wore our shirt in 236 games between 2009 and 2014. During that time he won six trophies." Alonso will be officially presented on Monday at 1030 GMT. The Spaniard coached Leverkusen to a league and German Cup double in the 2023-2024 campaign, with his team unbeaten in the top flight, making him a target for Europe's top clubs. Basque coach Alonso had an agreement with Leverkusen to allow him to depart if one of his former sides, including Madrid, Liverpool and Bayern Munich, wanted to hire him. Ancelotti's Madrid endured a disappointing campaign, winning the European Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup but suffering Champions League quarter-final elimination by Arsenal. Barcelona beat Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup and Copa del Rey finals and then reclaimed the Liga throne from their arch-rivals, meaning they failed to win a major trophy. Madrid added French superstar Kylian Mbappe last summer but Ancelotti found it hard to include him in the team alongside Vinicius Junior without destabilising it. Mbappe netted 31 La Liga goals which should earn him the European Golden Shoe, but Alonso's main job will be to restore the team's solidity without compromising the attack. After losing two matches in the whole of the previous campaign, this season Madrid slumped to 14 defeats. La Decima Alonso will replace one of the most successful managers in Madrid's history, despite their struggles this season. Ancelotti, 65, took Los Blancos to 15 trophies during two spells at the club, spanning six years. The Italian won three Champions League trophies in Madrid, including La Decima -- Madrid's 10th -- in 2014, with Alonso as part of his squad, although he was suspended for the final. Alonso was also coached by Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho and Vicente del Bosque among others and is considered tactically adroit and an excellent organiser, which could be ideal for a Madrid side that has lacked balance. The midfielder won two European Championships and the 2010 World Cup with Spain as he helped La Roja dominate the international game. After retiring from playing in 2017 he coached Real Madrid and Real Sociedad at youth level before being appointed by Bayer Leverkusen in 2022. Real Madrid have already signed defender Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth this summer and Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to follow, with his contract coming to an end at Anfield. Madrid are trying to bring in the England international before the Club World Cup this summer, which will be Alonso's first chance to win silverware. Real Madrid face Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal in Miami on June 18 in their opening match at FIFA's lucrative summer tournament, which will be the first look at Alonso's side. MS Dhoni has fueled speculations of his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he got ready for the final league game of the season. The former India captain, now 43 is likely playing his final IPL match as Chennai Super Kings take on Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. During the toss, Dhoni was questioned on his body fitness when he came up with a bold replay, fueling rumours of his IPL retirement.<h2>Dhoni fuels retirement rumours</h2>“It's (his body) surviving. Given his unpredictable nature, it won’t be a surprise if Dhoni announces his retirement later in the year. He did not get a send-off game while playing for India, and it again won’t be a surprise if he retires without one for CSK.&nbsp;For now, CSK’s inability to qualify for the IPL 2025 Playoffs means, Dhoni’s journey in the current season comes to an end. He was handed back the captaincy role after Ruturaj Gaikwad was injured midway through the season.

Roland Garros to bid farewell to King of Clay Nadal, Sabalenka begins title bid

Roland Garros will pay tribute to its greatest champion with a ceremony for the retired Rafael Nadal on Sunday, while Aryna Sabalenka gets her French Open campaign up and running on the opening day of the tournament. Nadal, the record 14-time champion on the Paris clay, retired from tennis last November after an illustrious career. He returns to Court Philippe Chatrier a year after suffering a first-round exit at the hands of Alexander Zverev in what proved to be his final French Open. The Spaniard finished with a remarkable 112-4 win-loss record at Roland Garros, dominating the tournament since winning the title on his debut in 2005. Nadal hung up his racquet following the 2024 Davis Cup Finals in Malaga, initially denying him an opportunity to wave goodbye to his adoring fans in Paris. His tally of 14 victories at a single Grand Slam appears unlikely to be beaten, with Margaret Court's 11 Australian Open titles second on the all-time list. Former rivals Roger Federer and Andy Murray are expected to attend Nadal's ceremony, as well as Novak Djokovic -- fresh off his 100th ATP title in Geneva. Nadal's heir apparent, Carlos Alcaraz, will start his title defence next week as a slight favourite to become the first man to lift the Coupe des Mousquetaires since his compatriot's retirement. Victory over world number one Jannik Sinner in last weekend's Italian Open final gave Alcaraz the second seeding for Roland Garros. That raises the possibility of the world's top two players meeting in a Grand Slam final for the very first time on June 8. "I think for the people, for the tennis fans, I think it's great to have a match-up from some players that make them excited about watching that match," Alcaraz told his pre-tournament press conference of his budding rivalry with Sinner. "I think for the people and probably the people who don't like watching tennis, I think (our rivalry) is something that, because of that (they have) started to watch tennis." Djokovic will launch his sixth bid for a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam triumph against American Mackenzie McDonald on Tuesday. The 38-year-old became just the third man to reach a century of tournament victories, after Jimmy Connors and Federer, by defeating Hubert Hurkacz in a three-hour epic in Switzerland on Saturday. But questions remain about Djokovic's form after losing in his opening matches in both Monte Carlo and Madrid to Alejandro Tabilo and Matteo Arnaldi, respectively. The Serb faces a difficult draw, with last year's runner-up Zverev a potential quarter-final opponent and Sinner possibly waiting in the last four. Sabalenka eyeing first French Open Women's world number one Sabalenka headlines the opening-day action with her first-round match against 75th-ranked Russian Kamilla Rakhimova. The Belarusian will kick off the schedule on Court Philippe Chatrier as she looks to make a strong start to her tilt at a first French Open title. Sabalenka has never reached the final at Roland Garros, but the tournament appears more open than in recent years, given the struggles of three-time defending champion Iga Swiatek. The Pole has slipped to fifth in the rankings and has not reached a WTA final since lifting her fourth French Open trophy last year. Sabalenka believes she is as well-placed as ever to take advantage. "Throughout the years, I've improved a lot (on clay) and today I feel physically, mentally... my game is pretty much ready to play on clay. Yeah, I definitely feel stronger than ever," said Sabalenka, who won the Madrid Open earlier this month. Elina Svitolina, a four-time quarter-finalist in Paris, opened the action under the roof on Court Suzanne Lenglen against Turkey's Zeynep Sonmez as play began on Sunday in drizzly conditions. Italian Open champion Jasmine Paolini, who was well beaten by Swiatek in the 2024 final, plays Yuan Yue. Chinese star Zheng Qinwen and rising Russian star Diana Shnaider are among the other women's hopefuls on court. Men's eighth seed Lorenzo Musetti, who has reached at least the semi-finals at all three clay-court Masters events this year, faces German Yannick Hanfmann. Former India opener and World Cup winner Virender Sehwag has questioned the selectors' choice for dropping Shreyas Iyer from the upcoming England tour. In an announcement made on Saturday (May 24), Iyer was not included in the Indian squad for the England tour despite the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. However, after the selection was made, Sehwag was not happy about dropping Iyer who had been in great form.<h2>Sehwag questions Iyer’s omission</h2>“When you're in good form, it's good to take him (Iyer) to the tour because there are higher chances of him performing. However, after the selection was made, Sehwag was not happy about dropping Iyer who had been in great form. Sehwag questions Iyer’s omission “When you're in good form, it's good to take him (Iyer) to the tour because there are higher chances of him performing. I would want to see him in Test team. Chennai Super Kings will drop curtains on a horrible Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) campaign as they face Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (May 25). While the race for the Qualifier 1 spot is heating up, the majority of the eyes are on MS Dhoni, who could be playing his final professional match. Captaining the side, Dhoni is now 43 as rumours are accelerating of his retirement ahead of the final game. So here’s what we know of the former India captain and his retirement plans.<h2>MS Dhoni to retire?</h2>At the time of writing, there is no official word from the player or his management or Chennai Super Kings that Dhoni is retiring. With Dhoni sitting on the wrong side of the age scale, and him turning 44 next season, it is unlikely he might feature in the IPL, however, any possibilities can’t be ruled out. Despite his age, he is not the oldest player in the competition’s history as Aussie bowler Brad Hogg holds the current record having represented Kolkata Knight Riders at 45 years and 92 days.&nbsp;Interestingly, Dhoni announced his international retirement untimely in 2020, a year after he had featured in the ODI World Cup semifinal loss against New Zealand. He was handed back the captaincy role after Ruturaj Gaikwad was injured midway through the season.So it will be interesting to see, whether Dhoni is back on the field for IPL 2026 or if will we witness him for one last time on Sunday.

Paris Saint-Germain warmed up for their Champions League final showdown with Inter Milan by winning the French Cup on Saturday as Bradley Barcola scored twice in a comfortable 3-0 win against Reims. Barcola netted twice in the space of four minutes early on to quickly extinguish whatever hopes Reims had of causing an upset at the Stade de France, and Achraf Hakimi added another goal before half-time. It was exactly the kind of smooth preparation coach Luis Enrique would have been hoping for ahead of the season-defining game against Inter in Munich on May 31, when PSG will be hoping to win the Champions League for the first time. "It was a really great evening. We got the job done quickly and we are pleased with the victory," Barcola told broadcaster France 2. "We knew we had to do the job in order to prepare in the best way possible for the (Champions League) final, we did it, and now we can go into the next match full of confidence." One minor issue to come out of the evening was the late withdrawal from the team of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Georgian winger was replaced in the starting line-up by Desire Doue and returned home early. "There is no problem. After the warm-up he wasn't feeling great and we decided not to take any risks. He will be fine to train on Tuesday," insisted Luis Enrique. PSG's victory, watched over 77,000 at the national stadium, allowed them to complete a clean sweep of the domestic honours for the second time in as many seasons since Luis Enrique became coach in 2023. They added the French Cup to the Ligue 1 title as well as the Champions Trophy, France's equivalent of a Super Cup. PSG have now won the French Cup a record 16 times, including eight times in the last decade. The next most successful club in the history of the competition are Marseille, who won the last of their 10 titles in 1989. "Now we have three of the four titles we could have won, and on the 31st I hope after the game we will all be celebrating going down in the history of the club," added Luis Enrique. - Barcola double - Reims were appearing in their first French Cup final since 1977 and were looking to win the trophy for the third time, with their last success coming in the 1950s. They held PSG twice during the league campaign but any prospect of them winning this time probably ended a week ago. That was when they slumped into the relegation play-off place on the final night of the Ligue 1 campaign, forcing them into a two-legged tie against second-tier Metz which they must win to remain in the top flight next season. The first leg of that tie ended in a 1-1 draw on Wednesday, and Reims must now prepare for the return match at home next Thursday. PSG wasted little time in putting their struggling opponents to the sword as Barcola's quickfire brace effectively decided the final before the midway point in the first half. Doue's through-ball sent Barcola through to open the scoring in the 16th minute, and Doue then latched onto a Marquinhos pass before squaring for Barcola to tap in and make it 2-0 on 19 minutes. The double took Barcola to 21 goals for the season overall, a tally bettered only in the PSG squad by Ousmane Dembele with 33. They had chances to score again in this one-sided contest before Hakimi made it 3-0 two minutes prior to the interval, cushioning in a Barcola cross to finish off a great move. That was the end of the scoring as Luis Enrique -- who gave Matfey Safonov a start in goal ahead of Gianluigi Donnarumma -- took the chance to ring the changes after the break. However, Barcola was only a denied a hat-trick by a good save from Reims goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf, who also turned a Dembele cross-cum-shot onto the post. Having already won Ligue 1, PSG's victory means the Europa League place on offer to the Cup winners now goes to Lyon, who finished sixth in the league, while seventh-placed Strasbourg enter the Conference League. Inter Miami fought back from 3-1 down to grab a 3-3 draw at MLS Eastern Conference leaders the Philadelphia Union on Saturday thanks to a stoppage-time leveller from substitute Telasco Segovia. Israeli forward Tai Baribo scored twice for Philadelphia to give them the two goal advantage but Lionel Messi gave Miami hope with an 87th-minute free-kick before Venezuelan Segovia dramatically grabbed the point. Quinn Sullivan, called up this week by Mauricio Pochettino to the US national team squad, fired Philadelphia ahead in the seventh minute with a sweet strike after Miami's defence had failed to close down. Baribo made it 2-0 with an instinctive finish in the 44th minute as Miami's defensive troubles continued. The visitors got a foothold in the game in the 60th minute when Noah Allen floated in a cross from the left which was met by a firm header from Argentine Tadeo Allende. But Philadelphia restored their two-goal cushion when, from a long throw, Miami were unable to clear and Jean-Jacques Danley pounced on the loose ball and Baribo fired home. Messi beat Union keeper Andrew Rick with a characteristically well driven free-kick for his sixth goal of the season three minutes from the end of regulation time to set up a frantic finale. Jovan Lukic hit the bar from inside the box early in stoppage time as Philly looked to wrap-up the win but they were left crestfallen in the fifth minute of stoppage time when, after good work from Messi, Segovia pounced and blasted home. There was still time for one more chance but an unmarked Danley, who had an outstanding game in midfield, somehow headed wide from close range. USA forward Patrick Agyemang had scored twice for Dean Smith's Charlotte but Malte Amundsen looked to have earned the Columbus Crew a point before Spaniard Pep Biel grabbed a 75th-minute winner for a 3-2 triumph. Mexican star Hirving 'Chucky' Lozano's stoppage-time header earned San Diego a 2-1 victory over the winless defending champion Los Angeles Galaxy. Former Arsenal and France striker Olivier Giroud's 77th-minute goal earned Los Angeles FC a 2-2 draw at Montreal while Duncan McGuire's first league goal of the season gave Orlando a 1-0 victory over the Portland Timbers. Argentine Max Urruti's 84th-minute goal gave the New England Revolution a 3-3 draw at Sporting Kansas City after the visitors had let an early 2-0 lead slip. Though they remain in the second spot despite this loss, the chances of Punjab staying there depend on a few results, including in their final league game. Delhi won the toss and elected to field first. They had Punjab on the backfoot inside the Powerplay with two wickets and another soon after. The batting side, however, took less time to collect themselves and get back to scoring runs, with their captain, Shreyas Iyer, being the protagonist. He got handy contributions from the lower middle order, but it only accelerated for Punjab after Marcus Stoinis entered the scene. The all-rounder smashed a brilliant 44 off 16 balls, including four sixes and three fours, helping Punjab post a fighting total of 206 for eight in 20 overs. Rizvi, Nair get the job done Delhi was out of the Playoffs race, but all they could do was spoil others’ parties, and with the win against Punjab, they did the same. DC got off to a flyer, adding 55 for the first wicket before two strikes dented their flow. They lost three wickets inside 11 overs, and that is where they began to march towards the win. A crucial stand between Karun Nair and Sameer Rizvi had Delhi on the front foot, with Punjab losing all momentum. Despite losing Karun, Delhi never lost their place in line, completing the run chase in the final over with six wickets remaining. For the batting side, rookie batter Sameer Rizvi was the star, hitting an unbeaten 58 off 25 balls, including five sixes and three fours.

"It has come from him. You've got to respect that. They have earned that respect, both of them. As all great players are, the one thing there is, they are true to themselves, and he was in that conversation. So you've got to respect that. We'll obviously miss [Kohli] when you've got a guy who's played 123 Test matches, 30 Test hundreds, it's going to be tough to fill,” he continued. No talks around Rohit’s retirement talk Although he shed light on the whole episode surrounding Virat Kohli’s Test retirement, Agarkar shared no details on what prompted former skipper Rohit to call time on his red-ball career. However, he remained focused on how the younger breed of superstars are ready to take Indian Cricket forward, with the away England series their first assignment without Rohit, Kohli and even Ravichandran Ashwin, who announced his Test retirement after the third Test Down Under in Brisbane. "When guys like that retire, it's always going to be big holes to fill," Agarkar said. "Ashwin retired a few months back as well, so those three guys are stalwarts of our cricket. It's always difficult. One way of looking at it is an opportunity for someone else. They've left a legacy behind. "Needless to say, Rohit has been a leader over the last couple of years since he started leading in the Test matches. It is a new cycle, so it is an opportunity to build something for us as well. That's why I think we've got to show them the respect that they want instead of speculating too many things. It is sometimes a personal call with players , and you've got to respect that, and their performances over the years have shown in the amount of games that they've won for India,” he added.

Agarkar-led selection panel picked ace batter Shubman Gill as Rohit’s successor in Tests, naming him the new Test captain.&nbsp;

Karun Nair has officially returned to the Indian Test team after an eight-year hiatus as the squad for the upcoming England tour was announced on Saturday (May 24). In a high-stakes meeting held to decide the new Test captain and squad for the England tour, Nair was one of few standout performers in the domestic circuit to make the Indian squad. Sai Sudharsan has also been included in the 15-man squad with Shubman Gill appointed as the captain in the red-ball format.&nbsp;<h2>Nair rewarded for excellent domestic show</h2>Nair was in great form during the Indian domestic season in 2024 and paved his way back into the conversation for a place in the national team. This was also the most hundreds scored by any player in a single season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.&nbsp;Nair has not played for the senior side in the last eight years, with his last match coming in March 2017 against Australia. The defeat for RCB means they will need favours from other sides to reach Qualifier 1, which gives them two shots to reach the IPL 2025 final.&nbsp;Now with 17 points from 13 matches, RCB will need to win their final match against LSG to stand with a chance of Qualifier 1 spot. Also, if RCB beat LSG on Monday and PBKS lose their remaining matches against Delhi and Mumbai respectively, then the South Indian side will be in line for a Q1 spot.

Chasing a massive 232 runs to win the contest in Lucknow, RCB were bowled out for 189, paving the way for SRH to win by 42 runs. The defeat for RCB means they will need favours from other sides to reach Qualifier 1, which gives them two shots to reach the IPL 2025 final. Now with 17 points from 13 matches, RCB will need to win their final match against LSG to stand with a chance of Qualifier 1 spot. Anything less than a win will see them miss out on the Q1 spot, meaning they will have to compete in the Eliminator. Also, if RCB beat LSG on Monday and PBKS lose their remaining matches against Delhi and Mumbai respectively, then the South Indian side will be in line for a Q1 spot.

In a statement released by the IPL governing council, both captains have been fined under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Phil Salt opened up on the team’s mentality after the side lost to SunRisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) on Friday (May 23). RCB, having already clinched IPL 2025 Playoffs spot have now seen their aspirations of a Qualifier 1 spot dented. However, Salt insists their defeat has done no harm and would rather prefer to lose in the league phase than the Playoffs.&nbsp;<h2>Salt opens up on RCB defeat</h2>"I mean that's one way of looking at it. The other way of looking at it is, you don't mind having this game not in the playoffs," said Salt at the post-match press conference."You can take it as a disappointment or you can take it for what it is. We've qualified but we've lost the game. No one likes to lose games of cricket. I'm hating the fact that we lost, as will everybody else in an RCB shirt, but we'd rather have this now than in an eliminator."&nbsp;Chasing a massive 232 runs to win the contest in Lucknow, RCB were bowled out for 189, paving the way for SRH to win by 42 runs. IPL 2025: Phil Salt reflects on RCB's mentality after SRH defeat, says 'no one likes to lose'

Already eliminated from Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) Playoffs race, SunRisers Hyderabad dented Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s aspirations of finishing in the Qualifier 1 spot with a 42-run win on Friday (May 23). The match in Lucknow had huge ramifications as they and Punjab Kings sat in pole position to clinch a Qualifier 1 spot. However, the defeat on Friday leaves PBKS and Gujarat Titans in pole position to clinch a place in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2025.&nbsp;<h2>Why race for Qualifier 1 spot heats up?</h2>Finishing in the top-two spots guarantees a place in Qualifier 1, therefore meaning a team can have two opportunities to qualify for the IPL 2025 final. According to the IPL format, teams finishing in the top two spots qualify for Qualifier 1, the winner of which directly books a place in the final. At the same time, the loser gets another opportunity to qualify for the summit clash. The loser of Qualifier 1 plays the winner of Eliminator (clash between 3rd and 4th placed sides in the league phase) in Qualifier 2.<h2>Who is in the race for top-two spot?</h2>At the time of writing, Gujarat Titans sit at the table with 18 points from 13 matches, followed by RCB and PBKS with 17 points each. However, Friday’s defeat meant RCB dropped to the third spot due to an inferior Net Run Rate (NRR) than PBKS. Mumbai Indians are also in the race and sit fourth with 16 points from 13 matches.&nbsp;<h2>Gujarat Titans</h2>With RCB now set to finish with 19 or fewer points, a win for GT against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday will seal their place in Qualifier 1. Neither Mumbai Indians nor RCB will be able to catch GT if they beat CSK.&nbsp;<h2>Punjab Kings&nbsp;</h2>Now in pole position, Punjab can finish top of the IPL 2025 table if they win their remaining two matches. Even a win in the remaining two matches coupled with RCB’s defeat against Lucknow Super Giants could also see PBKS book their Playoffs berth.&nbsp;<h2>Royal Challengers Bengaluru</h2>Now with 17 points from 13 matches, RCB will need to win their final match against LSG to stand with a chance of Qualifier 1 spot. Mumbai would still need either PBKS or RCB to lose both their remaining matches while also hoping CSK beat GT on Sunday. If this set of results is achieved with a win for MI against PBKS on Monday, they will finish in the Qualifier 1 spot. NRR won’t be a factor as they already have a better tally than GT and won’t finish with the same points as RCB and PBKS.

IPL 2025: SRH win dents RCB's chances of Qualifier 1 spot; PBKS and GT in pole position

A new chapter will begin in Indian cricket starting June 20 as they start the England tour in the post-Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma era. While the eyes are still on the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025), the focus is already on the England tour as the selectors are set to meet on Saturday (May 24) to decide on the squad. The meeting set to be attended by head coach Gautam Gambhir will have major ramifications not just on the England series but also on upcoming times of Indian cricket.&nbsp;<h2>Eyes on Gill, Bumrah</h2>With the 15-man squad on the agenda, the selectors panel led by Ajit Agarkar will be keen to reward players from the domestic circuit. However, the main focus will be on Jasprit Bumrah and Shubman Gill who are front runners to lead the Indian team. The vacant post of Test captaincy is of much debate after Rohit Sharma’s retirement from the format earlier in the month. Gill is the most likely to get the captaincy nod while Bumrah’s selection won’t surprise many.&nbsp;&nbsp;KL Rahul is another man in conversation for the captaincy role having impressed in instalments whenever given the opportunity. Interestingly, the trio of Rahul, Gill and Bumrah has led the Indian team in different series in the past. Gill’s impressive stint as captain in IPL could see him land the captaincy role in Test format.&nbsp;<h2>Karun Nair, Abhimanyu Easwaran in line for England tour</h2>After having a great domestic campaign Karun Nair and Abhimanyu Easwaran are set to be rewarded with a place in the 15-man squad. Nair scored six hundreds in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and was in conversation for a place in the Indian Champions Trophy squad. On the other hand, Easwaran was picked for the Australian tour but did not play in any matches with competition for places. However, with Virat and Rohit, no longer part of the team, it could pave the way for the duo to claim a spot in the Playing XI.
