
Punjab won its first match against Delhi as the opener KL Rahul slammed his fastest fifty to inspire the team to reach the target of 167 runs.
Earlier, R Ashwin won the toss and opted to bowl first at Punjab's home ground IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. The decision of playing first helped Punjab as they were able to take wickets at regular intervals because the dryness of pitch helped the bowlers.
For Delhi, newly-appointed skipper Gautam Gambhir played some quality shots to score 55 runs for the team. Rishabh Pant (28) and all-rounder Morris (27) also contributed with their bats to put up a modest total of 166 runs.
Chasing it, KL Rahul opened for Punjab and shattered the Delhi's dreams of winning its first match. He scores 51 runs off 14 balls and reduced the pressure from middle order batsmen.For his splendid innings, he was given the player of the match award.
Karun Nair played a crucial knock of 50 runs of 33 balls in a pressure situation when Delhi was trying to make a comeback. His knock included 5 fours and 4 sixes.
David Miller (24) and Marcus Stoinis (22) completed the winning runs.
