India's cash-rich tournament Indian Premier League (IPL) held its auction for the 12th edition on Tuesday, and like always, this time also the cricket tournament left the fans and audience confounded with the amount shelled to buy few uncapped cricketers.
Among many, Prayas Ray Barman scripted history by becoming the youngest-ever crorepati at the tender age of 16 in this year's IPL after Virat Kohli-led Bangalore bought him for Rs 1.5 crore from a base price Rs 20 lakh.
Born on October 23, 2002, Barman made his List A debut for Bengal in September this year in Vijay Hazare Trophy. He bowls leg-beak and is a very handy batsman. He was the leading wicket-taker for his side in the Vijay Hazare with 11 dismissals and nine catches.
Despite having an impressive List A debut against Jammu and Kashmir, bagging 4/20, Barman failed to grab a place in Bengal’s Ranji team.
Hailing from Durgapur, Prayas grew up in New Delhi where his father works as a general physician. But his growth as a cricketer happened at his native place where he joined Durgapur Cricket Centre and caught the attention in the Ambar Roy Sub-Junior Under-14 cricket tournament.
