India won the Kanpur Test against Bangladesh on day five despite rain playing spoilsport for over two days. India’s ultra-aggressive approach helped them win the match and sweep the series, strengthening their position at the top of the WTC points table. While the batters impressed one and all with their go-for-the-kill attitude, the bowlers garnered equal appreciation for delivering per the plan.

Bangladesh batted first after rain halted play on day one, with only 35 overs bowled. After the rain almost played its part in denting India’s chances of losing a point in the WTC Final race, the match resumed on the fourth day. Bangladesh batter Mominul Haque scored a brilliant hundred, but the side got all out on 233.
The hosts came with all guns blazing, as openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal took the attack to the opposition from the ball one. The pair raced to 50 inside four overs, setting a new record for the quickest team fifty in Tests. Subsequently, India broke multiple records of fastest-team 100, 150 and 200 in the red ball format inside two sessions.

Before stumps on day four, India picked up two crucial Bangladeshi wickets.
Day five was all about the Indian Team, as they first wrapped up Bangladesh’s second innings on 146, with Jasprit Bumrah and the spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Jadeja bagging three wickets each.

Only 35 overs were bowled across the first 3 days. To get a win in the next 2 days Ind had to dismiss Ban, declare with a lead, dismiss Ban again, then chase the target. They did it with half a day to spare! Stand up & applaud the greatness 👏🏻👏🏻 #INDvBAN pic.twitter.com/x9SCceu9cy — Wasim Jaffer (@WasimJaffer14) October 1, 2024
