India on Friday (Sep 26) slammed Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), accusing Islamabad of glorifying terrorism and peddling falsehoods. Exercising India’s right of reply, Petal Gahlot, first secretary at India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, delivered a sharp rebuttal. Calling Shehbaz's speech "absurd theatrics", the Indian representative pointed out that Pakistan sheltered al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden for a decade before the United States neutralised him at a walled compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, for masterminding the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Also read | Pak PM misuses UNGA speech to spin Kashmir lies, slam India’s Indus Treaty move
Pakistan's ‘absurd theatrics’
“This assembly witnessed absurd theatrics in the morning from the Prime Minister of Pakistan, who once again glorified terrorism that is so central to their foreign policy. She cited India’s Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror complexes in Bahawalpur and Muridke. “A picture speaks a thousand words, and we saw many pictures of terrorists slain in Bahawalpur and Muridke terror complexes by Indian forces during Operation Sindoor. When senior Pakistani military and civilian officials publicly glorify and pay homage to such notorious terrorists, can there be any doubt about the proclivities of this regime?” she asked. Also read | Melania Trump snubs Olena Zelenska at UNGA; ignores Ukrainian first lady’s plea for abducted childrenOn Sharif’s account of the recent conflict with India, Gahlot countered: “The Prime Minister of Pakistan also advanced a bizarre account of the recent conflict with India. The record on this matter is clear. Till 9th May, Pakistan was threatening more attacks on India. Calling Pakistan a country “steeped in the tradition of deploying and exporting terrorism,” she said that Islamabad “has no shame in advancing the most ludicrous narratives to that end”.She called out Pakistan for sheltering “Osama bin Laden for a decade, even while pretending to partner in the war against terrorism” and pointed out that its ministers recently admitted to running terror camps for decades. “It should come as no surprise that once again this duplicity continues, this time at the level of its Prime Minister,” said the Indian representative.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday (Sep 26) used his address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to cry foul about New Delhi's decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty and accuse India of violating the agreement. Calling the action “illegal” and a threat to peace in the region, Sharif, who also used his speech to pander to US President Donald Trump, made no mention of India’s central demand — that Islamabad must take credible steps to stop cross-border terrorism before the treaty was reinstated. New Delhi announced the suspension earlier this year as a countermeasure after the Pahalgam terror attack in April killed 26 civilians, an attack India has blamed on groups operating from Pakistani soil. Also read | India tears into Shehbaz Sharif at UNGA, calls Pakistan speech 'absurd theatrics,' points out Islamabad glorifies terror, sheltered Bin Laden
Sharif labels abeyance an 'act of war'
“India's unilateral and illegal attempt to hold the Indus Water Treaty in abeyance defies the provisions of the treaty itself as well as the norms of International law,” Sharif said. “Pakistan has made it abundantly clear that we will defend the inseparable right of our people on these waters. A crucial vote is pending on delaying the automatic “snapback” of UN sanctions on Iran, while the council has extended its peacekeeping mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL) until 2026. Discussions also touched upon the conflicts in Ukraine and South Sudan, as well as rising tensions in Lebanon following an Israeli drone strike. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres used the session to renew his call for Security Council reforms. He stressed that the body must represent “the world of today, not that of 1945” and highlighted India as an important voice in any restructured council.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif made repeated fumbles and mispronounced words and phrases while speaking at the AI Innovation Dialogue at the United nations Security Council on Friday and once again got trolled on social media. A video compilation of Asif’s fumbles was posted by news agency ANI and quickly went viral as social media users joined the party in mocking him. Asif was speaking at the AI Innovation Dialogue, chaired by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, when he stumbled several times. At least seven verbal errors were noted. He mispronounced “risk” as “riks,” “development” as “developend,” and repeatedly said “sirst time” before correcting it to “first time.” Pakistan’s defence minister also faltered while mentioning “six pillars,” initially calling them “six pip-pillars.” At one point, Asif confused “breathtaking pace” with “breathtaking space,” drawing amusement online.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar admitted India never agreed to third-party mediation, backing India's stance on bilateral talks. This counters Trump’s claim of brokering a ceasefire post-Operation Sindoor. India maintains the understanding was bilateral, with no U.S. mediation involved.

In a massive public admission, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, in an interview, said that India never agreed to any third-party mediation and has always maintained that India and Pakistan's issues should be addressed bilaterally. This comes amid US President Donald Trump’s continuous claim that he had brokered a ceasefire deal between India and Pakistan after Operation Sindoor. Dar said that the Pakistani side was specifically told by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that India will speak about all issues, including the Indus Waters Treaty, bilaterally. In an interview with Al Jazeera, Dar said, "India never agreed to any third-party mediation," adding that while Pakistan is open to dialogue with India, New Delhi has not responded. He also said: "We don't mind third-party involvement, but India has categorically been stating it's a bilateral matter. We don't mind bilateral, but the dialogues have to be comprehensive, on terrorism, trade, economy, Jammu and Kashmir, all subjects that we have discussed earlier." Dar was responding to the question of whether any negotiations were happening with India. “Is there any third party involved? Are you open to third-party involvement?” Proving India's statement that the US contacted India and Pakistan after Operation Sindoor and increased tensions in May, Dar said, “When I met Rubio on July 25 in Washington, I asked him what happened to the dialogue. He said that India says that it is a bilateral issue.” "If any country wants dialogue, we are happy..It takes two to tango. Unless India wishes to have a dialogue, we can't force dialogue," he added. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir are likely to meet United States President Donald Trump at the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, according to Pakistani media reports on Tuesday (Sep 16). Pakistan dragged itself into an embarrassment at the UN when it raised an objection that led to a scathing comment that has gone viral on social media. The lawyer working for UN Watch, an independent body overseeing the United Nations, humiliated Pakistan in a few seconds and said, “Pakistan is another state sponsor of terror”—something India has been emphasising for decades. The stage and the drama turned the moment into an internet phenomenon. Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, was speaking about Qatar allegedly “harbouring terrorists”. The UN council was hearing his points on Israel’s recent bombings in Doha that killed some leaders of the Palestinian group Hamas. Neuer accused Qatar of being a state sponsor of terror and said it should not have given shelter to Hamas leaders. “If you don’t want targeted bombings against terrorists in your capital, why do you harbour terrorists in your capital?” Neuer argued. Qatar has hosted the political office of Hamas, a US-designated terror organisation, since 2012.
‘When the US killed Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan…’
While speaking about the alleged hypocrisy, he said that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and French President Emmanuel Macron had condemned Israel for hitting targets inside Qatar. “But when the US killed Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan, the UN chief at the time celebrated that ‘justice has been done to such a mastermind of international terrorism’. France called it a ‘victory for all democracies’,” Neuer said.

At this moment, Pakistan’s representative raised a point of order and argued that the arguments violate the sovereignty of countries. “We reject unfounded accusations and allegations,” the Pakistan rep said, but the chairperson ruled that its objection was merely about procedure and “not substantive” and then the drama peaked as he gave UN Watch another four seconds, precisely.Neuer then delivered the punchline, saying, “Mr president, Pakistan is another state sponsor of terror.”He shared the clip on his X handle, which got over 2 million views in less than three days till the night of September 12. WATCH: South African Court Rules That Men Can Take Wife's Surnamehttps://www.wionews.com/videos/south-african-court-rules-that-men-can-take-wife-s-surname-1757697647223/embed
UN Watch roasted Pakistan in 2020 also
The UN Watch had roasted Pakistan in 2020 also over its inclusion in the United Nations Human Rights Council. “Your presence on the UN Human Rights Council is tolerable,” UN Watch had tweeted. It was in response to a post on X by the government of Pakistan. “Blasphemy in the garb of freedom of expression is intolerable,” the post said, and was seen as Pakistan backing the beheading of a French teacher in Paris by an Islamic terrorist.

The UN Watch had roasted Pakistan in 2020 also over its inclusion in the United Nations Human Rights Council. “Your presence on the UN Human Rights Council is tolerable,” UN Watch had tweeted in response to a post on X by the government of Pakistan.

‘When the US killed Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan…’ While speaking about the alleged hypocrisy, he said that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and French President Emmanuel Macron had condemned Israel for hitting targets inside Qatar. “But when the US killed Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan, the UN chief at the time celebrated that ‘justice has been done to such a mastermind of international terrorism’. France called it a ‘victory for all democracies’,” Neuer said.

In shocking news, a targeted blast at a cricket stadium in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province killed at least one person while injuring several others. Per reports emerging out of the country, an IED blast at the Kausar Cricket Ground in Khar tehsil led to panic, with a viral video of people running around to save their lives with a thick cloud of smoke emerging in the background doing rounds on social media. Meanwhile, on the same lines, a police station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province was under attack through a quadcopter last week, injuring a police constable and a civilian. Not only this, but last month too, on Pakistan’s Independence Day (Aug 14), the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) carried out coordinated gun and grenade attacks on police stations, checkpoints and patrols across several (seven) districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, killing half a dozen officers.
Pakistan, cricket and terrorism
Even though Pakistan co-hosted the eight-team ICC event (Champions Trophy), which was also the first on their soil since they co-hosted the 1996 ODI World Cup, the BCCI’s and the Indian government’s refusal to send the Indian Team across the border forced the ICC to introduce a hybrid model, with Dubai chosen as a neutral venue. Although the Pakistani media, their countless fans, influencers, experts, former cricketers and who’s who criticised the Indian government’s move, such blasts occurring now and then on their soil answer plenty of questions. It reflects why the BCCI was adamant and right in denying the Indian Team to Pakistan due to security concerns.

The local police also informed that the ones injured were taken to the nearby district headquarters hospital, with no reports of anyone claiming responsibility for the attack out yet.

Months after India's Operation Sindoor destroyed Pakistan's Nur Khan air base in Chaklala, Rawalpindi, reports suggest that Islamabad is rebuilding it. While Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in China, Pakistan Field Marshal General Asim Munir visited Chaklala, where reconstruction has begun. Reports shared several satellite images to show that rebuilding is underway on the heavily damaged site. Specialised military trucks that could integrate air and ground assets with communication systems were reportedly seen in the images. India and US are strategic partners, had improved trade and defence relations till Donald Trump’s presidency started upending it with tariffs, while warming up to Pakistan. It is also equipped with Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology, which allows a single missile to deliver multiple warheads at different angles. The Agni-5 missile uses a ring-laser gyroscope-based inertial navigation system (RLG-INS) and a micro-inertial navigation system (MINGS), supported by satellite navigation systems.

India today test-fired Agni-5 ballistic missile, marking a major advancement in India's strategic defence capabilities. However, a Pakistan-based think tank has warned Pakistan prime minister that it can pose "serious risks" to general stability.
