A teenager from the Indian state of Kerala died by suicide after severe bullying at school. The 15-year-old boy was bullied by his schoolmates for his skin colour. He was forced to "lick toilet seats" and had his head "shoved into the toilet while it was flushed," the boy's mother claimed.&nbsp;
The boy, Mihir Ahammed, was a student at a top private school in the Thiruvaniyoor distrtict of the state. On January 15, after being severely traumatised, the boy jumped from the 26th floor of his residential building after returning from school.&nbsp;

An FIR has been registered in the case and Ahammed's mother has filed a petition to the Child Commission requesting an investigation. She further alleged in the petition that Ahammed was also mistreated by the Vice Principal of his previous school in Kochi.&nbsp; &nbsp; &ldquo;I am a grieving mother fighting for justice for my son, who was a happy, active, and loving child. On that fateful day, Mihir returned home from school at 2:45 PM, and by 3:50 PM, my world came crashing down as he jumped from the 26th floor of our home in Choice Paradise, Thripunithara, Kochi, ending his life," Ahammed's mother said.&nbsp;

After the incident, the family of the teen tried to find the reason behind his actions. They talked to his friends and schoolmates and also checked his social media messages.&nbsp;
&ldquo;He was subjected to brutal ragging, bullying, and physical assault by a gang of students at school and on the school bus," Ahammed's mother alleged.&nbsp;
She claimed he was beaten, verbally abused, and forced to endure humiliation.&nbsp;
"He was forcibly taken to the washroom, made to lick a toilet seat, and had his head pushed into the toilet while it was flushed. These acts of cruelty broke him in ways we cannot fathom. He was bullied for his skin colour," the mother said.&nbsp;

<h2>School's attempt to 'cover up'</h2>
&ldquo;When I approached the school authorities with evidence and demanded accountability, they only informed me that the information was forwarded to the police. I strongly believe they are attempting to cover up these incidents to protect the school&rsquo;s reputation," Ahammed's mother added.&nbsp;

Less than five days before the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/delhi-election" rel="dofollow">Delhi Assembly elections</a>, five Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs resigned from the primary membership of the party on Friday (Jan 31).&nbsp;
The MLAs who resigned are Naresh Yadav (Mehrauli), Rohit Kumar (Trilokpuri), Rajesh Rishi (Janakpuri), Madan Lal (Kasturba Nagar), Pawan Sharma (Adarsh Nagar), and Bhawna Goud (Palam).&nbsp;
Bhupinder Singh Joon was the first AAP MLA to put in his papers.

'Lost faith in Kejriwal': 7 MLAs quit AAP just five days before Delhi election

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation on Friday (Jan 31), and both sides are working towards an early visit, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
Addressing the weekly media presser, Jaiswal said, "PM and President Trump had a telephone conversation recently. The two sides are working on an early visit of the PM to the US to further deepen India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. Specific dates for the visit would be announced at the appropriate time."

<h2>On Tahawwur Rana</h2>
"The US Supreme Court on 21 January 2025 declined to hear a petition from the accused. We are now working with the US side on procedural issues for early extradition to India of the accused in the Mumbai terror attack," the MEA spokesperson said. India has long sought the extradition of Rana, a Canadian national of Pakistani origin. He is wanted in the 2008 Mumbai Taj Hotel terror attack, which killed more than 160 people.
<h2>On the ongoing conflict in Democratic Republic of Congo</h2>
MEA said that they are closely following the developments in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). "We remain concerned at the deteriorating security situation. We call for a peaceful resolution of the conflict," MEA said.&nbsp;
Jaiswal added that the Indian Embassy in Kinshasa has issued advisories for Indians living in the Goma. "There are about 1000 Indian nationals who were living in Goma, but most of them have moved to safer places since the outbreak of the conflict. The Embassy remains in regular touch with the community for their welfare and safety," Jaiswal said.

Jaiswal said that India and Bangladesh security chiefs will discuss border-related issues from February 17 to 20, 2025, in New Delhi. "We expect all mutually agreed-upon MOUs and Agreements to be honoured. These form the basis for structured engagements between the border guarding forces and facilitate the creation of mutually beneficial security and trade infrastructure along the border," Jaiswal said.

Reacting sharply, BJP President and Union Minister J.P. Nadda "strongly condemned" the remark.
Taking to X, Nadda said, "I and every BJP Karyakarta STRONGLY CONDEMN the usage of the phrase 'poor thing' by Smt. Sonia Gandhi for the Honourable President of India, Droupadi Murmu Ji."
"The deliberate usage of such words exposes the elitist, anti-poor, and anti-tribal mindset of the Congress Party," he alleged demanding an apology.

'Unfortunate, entirely avoidable': Rashtrapati Bhavan condemns Sonia Gandhi's remark on President Murmu's speech

New Delhi, India: Today (Friday, Jan 31) at 11 am, Indian President Droupadi Murmu addressed a joint session of Parliament, officially marking the beginning of the Budget Session 2024-25. After her address, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the Economic Survey 2024-25 in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha separately.
According to the Parliamentary Bulletin, the Budget Session will be conducted in two phases. The first part of the Budget session began on January 31, with the Union Budget presentation by the Finance Minister scheduled for February 1. India's budget session will conclude on February 13.

A 36-year-old man succumbed to Guillain-Barr&eacute; Syndrome (GBS), a rare neurological disorder, in Pune, a city in the western state of India, Maharashtra, marking the third suspected GBS-related death in the state, news agency PTI reported on Friday (Jan 31).
The news agency cited officials and said that the patient used to work as a driver with a cab service and was admitted to the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH) in Pimpri Chinchwad on Jan 21.
"An expert committee at YCMH conducted an investigation and concluded that the cause of the death was trauma to the respiratory system due to pneumonia, leading to severe difficulty in breathing," the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation said in a release.

In a major successful operation of security forces, two infiltrating terrorists have been killed in an ongoing operation in the Poonch sector of Jammu Division. Security forces said that a group of terrorists were trying to Infiltrate the Indian territory as suspicious movement was noticed in the Poonch area close to LoC. The operation turned into a massive gunfight between the forces and terrorists. The operation was carried out and resulted in the killing of two terrorists and recovering a huge cache of arms and ammunition. ''Terrorist movement was detected last night at the Line of Control in Poonch sector. Alert troops swiftly engaged the infiltrating terrorists, triggering an intense & heavy firefight. The operation continued through the night, leading to the neutralization of two terrorists. The search of the area thus far has resulted in the recovery of a number of weapons and war-like stores. Operation continues,'' said the Indian Army. "A separate process for vehicle entry into the mela area will be managed by the Mela Officer and the DIG, who will issue further notifications. There are no restrictions on vehicles within the Prayagraj Commissionerate area," he said.

The man&rsquo;s whereabouts had been unknown ever since he travelled to Patna, Bihar, reported news agency PTI. His wife Dhanwa Devi, raised their two sons, Kamlesh and Vimlesh, alone.
<h2>The missing man</h2>
Gangasagar's younger brother, Murli Yadav, said, &ldquo;Over the years, we lost hope of ever seeing him again until one of our relatives attending the Kumbh Mela noticed a man resembling Gangasagar and took his photograph. The photo was sent to us and I, along with Dhanwa Devi and their two sons, rushed to the Kumbh Mela, determined to take him back.&rdquo;

However, upon meeting, Baba Rajkumar denied acknowledging his past identity as Gangasagar Yadav. Rajkumar said that he was a sadhu from Varanasi and refused all connections to his past life.
While some of the family members returned home, others stayed at the Maha Kumbh Mela to keep an eye on Baba Rajkumar and his companion Sadhvi. After the festival concludes, the family plans to take legal action if the proposed DNA test confirms his identity as Gangasagar.

The family insisted that he was Gangasagar, noting that his long teeth, scar on his knee, and injury mark on the forehead were the same. His family is demanding a DNA test to confirm his identity.

Congress MP Rakesh Rathore was apprehended on Thursday (Jan 30) in India's Uttar Pradesh in connection with a <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/rape" rel="dofollow">rape</a> case. Rathore, who is a member of Parliament from Sitapur, was in the middle of a press conference to clarify his stand over the allegations against him when he was arrested by police. 
Rathore said during the press conference, "The High Court granted me two weeks to appear before the Lower Court and follow the legal procedure. So, I am surrendering before the police in this connection. I am confident that I will get justice in the court of people and the court of law. The matter is subjudice before the court, so it will not be correct to speak on it."
His arrest came a day after Allahabad High Court rejected his anticipatory bail. The Congress MP&nbsp;is accused of sexually exploiting a woman for four years under the pretext of marrying her.

AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, in a response to the Election Commission's demand for providing evidence to back his claims stating that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Haryana government attempted "genocide" by mixing "poison" in the Yamuna river supplied to Delhi, said he made the &lsquo;Yamuna poisoning&rsquo; remark in public interest.&nbsp;
Kejriwal has now challenged the BJP and Congress leaders to drink Yamuna water.
"We have four bottles... will send to each one of them... please drink and show us. Then we will believe," he said in a press briefing as he pointed towards plastic bottles filled with Yamuna water.

His remarks came after the Election Commission of India rebuked Kejriwal on Thursday (Jan 30) asking him to not link the issues concerning the increased level of ammonia in the Yamuna with his grave allegations of poisoning the river for mass genocide.
The EC asked him to provide factual evidence with specific and pointed responses to the type, quantity, nature, and manner of poisoning of Yamuna.
Kejriwal has also been asked to share details of the engineers, location, and methodology by Friday 11 am, through which the "poison" was detected by Delhi Jal Board staff.
The poll body has granted the AAP chief a last chance to explain why action should not be taken against his serious allegations that can ignite unrest and cause disharmony amongst different groups.

Modi addressed a public meeting in Delhi's Kartar Nagar, where he criticised AAP leaders, comparing them to notorious serial killer Charles Sobhraj, known for deceiving people.
"You may have heard of Charles Sobhraj, he was a known thug. He was such an expert at duping people with innocence that every time people would get duped by him. That is why one has to remain cautious of such people," he said.
