The Indian Government aerospace firm Hindustan Aeronautics Limited(HAL) will soon be completely building, marketing, and launching the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle(SSLV rocket) developed by the Indian Government Space Agency ISRO. Indian Government officials said, this would mean that the SSLV rocket is going to be HAL's property, they can launch it to ferry customers' satellites and demand a price for providing the launch services.Typically, all Indian spacefaring rockets are developed by and belong to the Indian Space Research Organization. ISRO sources rocket components from Indian and foreign vendors, assembles the rocket and launches it. Henceforth, HAL will follow the same process for the SSLV.HAL was finally selected from a list of nine bidders, considering that theirs was the highest techno-commercial bid to secure the Technology Transfer of the SSLV rocket. HAL is also the firm that builds the Indian homegrown fighter jet Tejas, and various other fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft of its own and under licensed production.The SSLV is the Indian Government's latest and smallest spacefaring rocket. ISRO says, the SSLV can carry satellites weighing up to 500kg to orbits 500 km above the earth's surface. SSLV made its debut launch in August 2022, which was a failure. Thereafter, it did two flights - in February 2023 and August 2024, both successes. All three flights so far have been developmental flights. Developmental flights are more like flight tests of the rocket, its crucial components and sub-systems. Once they demonstrate their reliability in developmental flights, the rocket is flown on more routine/operational missions.The agreement for the technology transfer of SSLV is to be signed between HAL, ISRO's commercial arm NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), ISRO, and the Government's Space promotion agency IN-SPACE. According to the Government, the agreement encompasses extensive training and handholding of HAL personnel by ISRO teams, both at ISRO and HAL facilities, for the building and launching of two SSLVs in the next two years. Officials said HAL's bid was for Rs.511cr (approx $59mn), and this sum would be paid in a phased manner.Radhakrishnan Durairaj, CMD, NSIL, said, "We are pleased to be part of this SSLV technology transfer process that would enable HAL to develop this launch vehicle that would cater to launch on-demand needs of global small satellite customer needs. This collaboration marks a significant step towards strengthening India’s commercial satellite launch capabilities and more specifically in enabling Indian industry in realising this SSLV.”Queried about the long delays in rolling out India's Tejas fighter jets and whether HAL's ability to deliver in the rocketry domain, top officials from HAL's Aerospace division outlined that the capability for space manufacturing is different from that of fighter planes. They added that a different manufacturing capacity exists for the space programme and for the fighter jet programme.Dr. Pawan Goenka, Chairman, IN-SPACE, said, after the first to HAL-made SSLV launches supported by ISRO, HAL is free to change the design of the rocket, source its components from vendors of its choice, market it and launch it. The Indian government has began Operation Sindhu to bring back the Indian students, their parents want the government to bring more pace to the operation.&nbsp; &nbsp;Jammu and Kashmir Students Association said that 140 Kashmiri students from Tehran University have been relocated to Gilan Province in Iran amid the ongoing crisis. They remain in a state of deep distress and have urgently appealed for immediate evacuation. The Students have been relocated to a safer place by the University Administration but have been enduring immense mental and emotional trauma due to the ongoing uncertainty and deteriorating security situation. This is the same group in which two Kashmiri students suffered injuries after their dormitory was struck by shrapnel during a nearby airstrike. Jammu and Kashmir Students Association requested the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to evacuate these students at the earliest and ensure their safe return home. &nbsp;In the first phase of evacuation, the government of India evacuated 110 students from India, which included 94 from the Kashmir Valley. The parents whose children are still stuck have appealed to the government to bring back their children urgently.&nbsp; &nbsp;''We have four children in Iran, two are our cousins and two are my nephew and Niece. They were in Tehran and have been taken from there to Qom. Reportedly we have been told that they have been taken to Turkmenistan, and we are hoping they will be airlifted from there to Delhi soon. We also want to request that they should be sent to Kashmir via air as there has been a lot of traumas in the last few days. We don't know yet, but the Indian government is making arrangements to bring them back, but we want it to be done urgently.'' said Farooq Ahmad Lone, parent.&nbsp; &nbsp;Around 600 Indian students, including 500 from Kashmir, have safely reached Mashhad from Qom. This is the second group of students who were earlier relocated to Qom, where they stayed for three days. The communication system is also not working properly, and we are hardly in touch with them. I spoke to my daughter very briefly and she said that the condition there is not good, but embassy people are in touch with them, and they have told them that they will shift them to safer places, and they need not to worry. We appeal government of India to shift our children to safer place '' said Nissar Ahmad, Parent.&nbsp; &nbsp;Indian nationals in Iran are advised to stay in touch with the Indian Embassy in Tehran through its emergency helpline, and with the 24x7 Control Room established by the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.&nbsp;

In a tragic incident, an Indian student enrolled at the University of Calgary in Canada died under suspicious circumstances, said the Consulate General of India in Vancouver on Thursday (June 19). The student identified as Tanya Tyagi was in Canada for higher studies.&nbsp;Making a statement in this regard on X and expressing condolences to the family, the consulate wrote, "We are saddened by the sudden demise of Ms. Tanya Tyagi, an Indian student at University of Calgary."&nbsp;The consulate assured it will keep in touch with the family of Tanya and promised of all possible help.&nbsp;“The Consulate is in touch with the authorities and will provide all required assistance to the bereaved family. Our heartfelt condolences &amp; prayers are with his family &amp; friends of the deceased,” the post by the consulate further read. &nbsp;

An official statement is waited in this regard from Canadian officials which could reveal the exact reason behind Tanya's death.&nbsp;Though, the reason for her death is yet to be revealed, a post on social media that also tagged the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) claimed that Tanya died of a heart attack.&nbsp;The authenticity of the post could, however, not be independently verified by WION.&nbsp;“Appeal 4 help. Tanya Tyagi, a student from Northeast Delhi residing at 559/11D, Lane No 12, Vijay Park, had gone to Canada for studies. She died on June 17, 2025, due to a heart attack. The student's family has appealed to PM Modi for help in bringing her body back,” the unverified post read.&nbsp;This is not the first time that such an incident has come to light. In March this year, a 20-year-old Indian student and a &nbsp;permanent US resident Sudiksha Konanki had lost her life while vacationing in the Dominican Republic.

In a post on X, Air India wrote, “Due to the geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, night curfew in the airspaces of many countries in Europe and East Asia, the ongoing enhanced safety inspections, and also the necessary cautious approach being taken by the engineering staff and Air India pilots, there have been certain disruptions in our international operations over the last 6 days leading to a total of 83 cancellations.”&nbsp;&nbsp;

Passengers will also be offered a choice to reschedule their travel without any cost or to be given a full refund, as per their choice. The revised schedule of our international services, effective from June 20, 2025, will be shared shortly.”&nbsp;Air India also commented on the Ahmedabad crash and said investigations into the cause of the accident are still underway.&nbsp;&nbsp;Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has directed enhanced safety inspections of Air India’s Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 fleet.It added that of the total 33 aircraft, 26 have already undergone thorough checks and have been cleared to return to service. The clearance of the majority of the fleet serves as a strong endorsement of the safety protocols and maintenance standards being upheld, the airline wrote.&nbsp;“As a matter of added precaution, Air India will also undertake enhanced safety checks on its Boeing 777 fleet,” the carrier said.&nbsp;&nbsp;“Air India remains in mourning on the tragic loss of 241 passengers and crew members aboard flight AI171. In a significant development, Canada has termed "Khalistani extremists" a national security threat for the country in a key intelligence report. In its annual report to Parliament, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service or CSIS said, "while there were no Canada-based Khalistani extremists (CBKEs)-related attacks in Canada in 2024, ongoing involvement in violent activities by CBKEs continues to pose a national security threat to Canada and Canadian interests". This is the first time that Canada has used the term ‘extremists’ for Khalistanis. India has over the years expressed its concerns over Khalistani extremists getting space in Canada. &nbsp;The Canadian report explained that "only a small group of individuals are considered Khalistani extremists because they continue to use Canada as a base for the promotion, fundraising or planning of violence primarily in India".&nbsp;&nbsp;India has repeatedly asked Canada to act on the Khalistani extremist elements, and even handed over a list of over 20 extradition requests, including many who are linked to terrorism and violence in India.
