Maldives finance minister Moosa Zameer has said that soon Indian tourists can pay in Indian Rupees as his country is working for a local currency settlement with India. Finance Minister Moosa Zameer, speaking to WION's Sidhant Sibal in Malé, said, "Local currency settlement agreements that we are coming in, it will be easier for local businesses to source from India and pay in Indian rupees. And Indian tourists will come to the Maldives to pay in Indian rupees to the locals."&nbsp;The Maldives and India are working on the usage of Indian currency in the country, whose mainstay is tourism. Indian tourists form the 6th largest number of foreign tourists arriving in the Maldives. When asked about free trade agreement talks, the finance minister said, "groundwork has been laid" with PM Modi's visit and "more Indian businesses will be interested in supplying to the Maldives".&nbsp;PM Modi was on a visit to the Maldives on Friday and Saturday, his 3rd visit to the country since 2014. During this visit, he was the guest of honour at the Independence Day celebrations. Interview:&nbsp;Sidhant Sibal: How do you think, opening of the new terminal will help the Maldives? Moosa Zameer: Obviously, we have had some hurdles in the past couple of years because of the high number of tourists that were arriving, and we were not able to give enough space for the market that was developing in the aviation industry. Today, with this opening of the new terminal, I'm sure that has changed. And looking at the Indian market, yes, and it has been growing tremendously. And with the visit of Prime Minister Modi recently as a guest of honour for the Maldives Independence Day, I'm sure the numbers will increase. The Government is actively seeking to find ways to increase Indian destinations to Maldives. India as a source market has played a key role in Maldives, and I'm sure with this expansion, it will help much more than what we can anticipate right now, because we see the growth. There's clearly a disconnect between education investment and job realities in India in the IT field, which for nearly three decades was considered a sureshot ticket to job security with campus placements.<h2>Are you spending millions on your child's software degree? AI will disrupt your dreams</h2>Even as Indian parents continue to spend millions of rupees on IT education at home and abroad, the country's $283 billion software industry is undergoing a painful transformation of job cuts, often attributed to automation by Artificial Intelligence (AI), and 'skill gaps'. This month, India’s largest IT firm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) announced a cut of 12,000 jobs, which is 2 per cent of its workforce, at middle and senior levels, to become 'future ready' by investing heavily in AI."A number of reskilling and redeployment initiatives have been underway, said TCS, warning that it would be 'releasing associates from the organisation whose deployment may not be feasible'.The shift is a result of AI automation of tens of thousands of repetitive IT tasks, for which global firms traditionally depended on the relatively cheap skilled labour from India. Then there is entrance coaching fees for exams like JEE or GATE, which could go up to 200,000 rupees per year per student.<h2>Spending on IT education went through roof, crossing one trillion rupees</h2>Indian students continue to go abroad for higher education, many of them in IT or allied courses. A specific number on how many go for IT education alone is difficult to gather, but it would be safe to assume that the majority of them do. Overall, 770,000 Indian students studied abroad in 2019, and the number was projected to hit 1.8 million in 2024. By that year, Indian families likely spent $75–85 billion annually on international education, with IT and computer science among the most popular fields. Putting this data together, it would be safe to estimate that Indian parents cumulatively spend around ₹60,000–1,00,000 crore (yes, one trillion rupees) on overseas IT education.The biggest contributors to this outflow are families from higher-income states like Punjab, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh.Total annual estimate of IT education - combiing domestic, overseas, coaching and upskilling - is between ₹1.3 trillion to 2.1 trillion rupees.<h2>Indian IT firings: A wake-up call for parents and students</h2>The outcomes no longer match the investment on education, especially in the IT sector.Many private colleges charge high fees, but their graduates face job uncertainty due to limited AI skills, a decline in legacy IT roles, and a shift towards leaner, AI-first IT teams both in India and abroad.The quality of IT education in many institutions is also not aligned with current industry needs. He assured the people that he was personally monitoring the situation and directed the local administration to expedite the search, rescue, and relief operations.

According to a statement issued by the Grand Mufti’s office on Monday (Jul 28), Nimisha Priya’s death sentence has been “completely cancelled”. The decision was made following a high-level meeting held in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa. “The death sentence of Nimisha Priya, which was previously suspended, has been overturned. A high-level meeting held in Sanaa decided to completely cancel the death sentence that was temporarily suspended earlier,” the statement read as quoted by ANI. A native of Kerala, Nimisha Priya was scheduled to be executed on July 16 after being convicted of killing a Yemeni national, Talal Abdo Mehdi, in June 2018. In November 2023, her death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court of the country. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) earlier on July 17 said that the Indian government was offering all possible assistance in the case. The authorities also provided legal assistance and appointed a lawyer to assist the family. Nimisha Priya was accused of the crime in 2017 after working for several years as a nurse in Yemen. She ran a clinic in the country with Talal’s support. However, she allegedly faced mental, physical and financial abuse by Talal, who seized her passport. It is claimed that he was killed in self-defence or as an unintended consequence of an attempt to retrieve her passport. Her mother, Prema Kumari, has been in Yemen for the last year, hoping for a pardon. She was given a death sentence by a trial court in Yemen and upheld by the Supreme Court. Last year, Yemen’s President Rashad al-Alimi also approved her punishment.

Earlier, the execution of Nimisha Priya was scheduled on July 16, but was postponed after the intervention of the Indian Grand Mufti Muslaiyar.

India's External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar while speaking in the Parliament on Monday (July 28) on Operation Sindoor against Pakistan said that "out of the 193 member of UN only three apart from Pakistan opposed operation Sindoor'. The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QSD), or Quad, a strategic forum comprising four nations: Australia, India, Japan, and the United States also condemned the attack, said Jaishankar. A statement condemning cross-border terrorism was made by BRICS that includes China, Russia, Iran, SA, Egypt, etc, the EAM further said. "It was important to send a clear, strong and resolute message after the Pahalgam attack. Our red lines had been crossed. and we had to make it very apparent that there would be serious consequences as a result," Jaishankar added. During the debate the EAM said that PM Modi had received a call from US Vice President JD Vance warning of a massive Pakistan attack, in response Modi said "if such an attack happened there will be appropriate response. The External Affairs Minister also refuted mediation claims by US and said that there were no talks between Donald Trump and PM Modi in this regard. "I want to make two things very clear. One, at no stage in any conversation with the United States was there any linkage with trade and what was going on," he said in the Parliament. “Secondly, there was no call between the Prime Minister [Modi] and President Trump from the 22nd of April when President Trump called up to convey his sympathy and the 17th of June, when he called up Prime Minister [Modi] in Canada to explain why he could not meet,” Jaishankar added. The minister’s remarks comes amid repeated claims by President Trump that he cajoled Delhi and Islamabad into stopping the conflict.

“I feel proud when I say this, that our defence systems, counter drone systems, and electronic equipment completely foiled Pakistan's attack. According to the top officials of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Indian Army, Operation Mahadev marks a major success for the forces in the Kashmir region. Security forces have also recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition from the encounter site, and search operations are still in progress. Earlier on Monday, the Army announced that contact had been established with terrorists in the general area of Lidwas in Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district. Taking to the micro-blogging platform X, the Army's Chinar Corps wrote, "Contact established in General Area Lidwas. Operation in progress." Sources in the security forces said that dead bodies of three terrorists killed include Sulaiman and Yasir. Both of them were involved in the Pahalgam attack, while the third is yet to be unidentified. Sources said the three bodies include Yasir, Suleiman, Abu Hamza. Yasir and Suleman's names had come at the time of the Pahalgam attack.
