Bihar Election 2025 Results Highlights | ‘Respect the decision of the people,’ says Cong president Kharge

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said on Friday that the party respects the decision of the people of Bihar and will continue its fight against the forces engaged in weakening democracy by misusing constitutional institutions.

In a post on X, Kharge said, “We respect the decision of the people of Bihar and will continue our fight against those forces that are engaged in weakening democracy by misusing constitutional institutions. We will conduct a thorough study of the election results and will present a detailed perspective after understanding the reasons for the outcomes. We are deeply grateful from the bottom of our hearts to those voters in Bihar who supported the grand alliance. I want to tell every Congress worker that there is no need for you to feel discouraged. You are our pride, honour, and glory. Your hard work is our strength. We will leave no stone unturned in raising awareness among the people. We will continue the struggle to save the Constitution and democracy by staying among the people. This fight is long - and we will fight it with complete dedication, courage, and truth.”

Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said on Friday that the result of Bihar polls is truly surprising and alleged that the election was not fair from the very beginning.

In a post on X, Rahul said, “I express my heartfelt gratitude to those millions of voters in Bihar who expressed their trust in the Mahagathbandhan. This result in Bihar is truly surprising. We could not achieve victory in an election that was not fair from the very beginning. This fight is for the protection of the Constitution and democracy. The Congress Party and the INDIA alliance will deeply review this result and make their efforts to save democracy even more effective.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the BJP won assembly elections in several states after the Lok Sabha elections. He said the party won the Haryana and Maharashtra assembly elections, has now emerged victorious in Bihar and will continue its winning streak in West Bengal. 

“The Ganga flows through Bihar and reaches Bengal. Bihar has also paved the way for the BJP’s victory in Bengal. I also congratulate the brothers and sisters of Bengal. Now, together with you, the BJP will uproot jungle raj from West Bengal as well,” said PM Modi.

PM Narendra Modi praised the Election Commission of India and said the Bihar elections have bolstered public confidence in the poll panel.

“This is not just a victory for the NDA. It is a triumph for democracy itself. It has bolstered public confidence in the Election Commission. Over the past few years, increased voter turnout, particularly among marginalised groups, has been a significant achievement for the Election Commission,” said PM Modi.

“This is the same Bihar that was once plagued by Maoist insurgency, where voting in Naxal-affected areas often concluded as early as 3 pm. However, in this election, people turned out to vote with remarkable enthusiasm,” he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the opposition parties had created the appeasement formula of MY, but the victory in Bihar has given a new positive MY formula, and that is Mahila and Youth.

“Some parties in Bihar had created the appeasement formula of MY. But today’s victory has given a new positive MY formula, and that is Mahila and Youth. Today, Bihar is among the states with the highest number of youth, and this includes youth from every religion and every caste. Their desires, their aspirations and dreams have completely destroyed the old communal MY formula of the jungle raj people,” said PM Modi at the Delhi BJP headquarters.

Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and former Deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav won the Raghopur assembly seat by a margin of 14,532 votes after trailing behind BJP’s Satish Kumar, who secured 1,04,065 votes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) landslide victory in Bihar and said the people of Bihar have voted for a developed, prosperous Bihar. 

In his victory speech at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, the PM said, “The people of Bihar have voted for a developed Bihar. The people of Bihar have voted for a prosperous Bihar. During the election campaign, I had urged the people of Bihar to vote in record numbers, and the people of Bihar have shattered all records. I had urged the people of Bihar to ensure a resounding victory for the NDA, and the people of Bihar have honoured that call too.”

Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary wins from Tarapur by a margin of 45,843 votes. He polled 1,22,480 votes against Arun Kumar of the Rashtriya Janata Dal who secured 76,637 votes.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed his gratitude after the NDA’s sweeping victory in the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections on Friday. Kumar thanked the people of the state for their trust and support, calling it a demonstration of confidence in his government.

“In the Bihar Legislative Assembly Elections-2025, the people of the state have expressed their confidence in our government by giving us a massive majority. For this, I bow to all the esteemed voters of the state, and express my heartfelt gratitude and thanks," Kumar wrote on X.

He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his guidance and backing, while acknowledging the contribution of NDA allies Chirag Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Upendra Kushwaha for the coalition’s united effort that led to the sweeping victory.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the thumping win of NDA in the Bihar assembly elections is the victory of good governance, development, social justice, and the spirit of public welfare. “My deepest gratitude to the family members of Bihar, who have blessed the NDA with a historic and unprecedented victory in the 2025 assembly elections. This resounding public mandate will empower us to serve the people and work with new resolve for Bihar."

“I appreciate every NDA Karyakarta for the hardwork they’ve put in over the recent months. They have worked among the people, explained our development agenda and even countered the lies of the Opposition. They are remarkable indeed!,” the PM added.

“In the coming times, we will do even more for Bihar’s progress, Bihar’s infrastructure and Bihar’s culture. We will ensure that the State’s Yuva Shakti and Nari Shakti get many opportunities to lead a life of prosperity,” PM Modi assured.

The Janata Dal (United) secured five seats in Bihar, including Mokama, and was ahead in 79 additional constituencies, according to Election Commission data. Former Bihar minister Rana Randhir of the BJP successfully defended the Madhuban seat for a third consecutive term with a winning margin of 5,492 votes. Meanwhile, BJP's Raju Kumar Singh captured the Sahebganj constituency with a lead of 13,522 votes. First winner for the RJD - Ramanand Yadav comes from the Fatuha seat. He won by nearly 8,000 votes, defeating LJP (Ram Vilas) and Jan Suraaj candidates.

While the Mahagathbandhan faces a rout, there may be some relief for Tejashwi Yadav. The RJD candidate, who had long been trailing on the Raghopur seat since morning, is now fighting back, leading by over 3,000 votes.

In Mokama constituency, JD(U)’s Anant Kumar Singh won with 91,416 votes, holding a margin of 28,206 over his RJD's Veena Devi after the final round of vote counting.
 

The Election Commission of India has declared Maheshwar Hazari,  JD(U)'s candidate, as the winner of the Kalyanpur seat.

Veteran leader Lalu Yadav's political heir and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav is trailing BJP’s Santosh Kumar by 7,500 votes, as per the latest ECI data.

Folk singer Maithili Thakur may become the youngest legislator in Bihar's history. At 25, Thakur, a celebrated Maithili and Bhojpuri singer, joined the PM Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in October and was fielded from Alinagar constituency. She is currently leading with more than 8,000 votes.

The public has seen the work done by Nitish Kumar. They also remember and have seen Lalu Prasad's jungle raj... I am proud that our Bihar has stood up to walk on the path of development.”

The National Democratic Alliance is heading towards setting a new milestone in the 2025 Bihar elections, as it has crossed the 200-mark in the latest trends.

As Mahagathbandhan trails in Bihar, Senior Observer for the state, Ashok Gehlot says, "Bihar results are disappointing, there is no doubt about it. The kind of atmosphere I saw there - women were given Rs 10,000 each; it was being given even when the Election Campaign was ongoing...EC remained a mute spectator. Why did it not stop this? It should have, but it didn't...This means that what Rahul Gandhi said for Vote Chori, this is what Vote Chori is. If fair elections are not held, if rigging takes place, if bopoth capturing takes place or there is cheating and money is being distributed - EC didn't take any action, they were colluding with the ruling party. Money is being misused these days. In Maharashtra, Crores of Rupees were given to candidates. Congress and RJD don't have money. So, a threat looms over democracy.  Former CM and HAM(S) leader Jitan Ram Manjhi says, "This is not unexpected. We were saying from the beginning that NDA will form the Govt with a thumping majority and Nitish Kumar will be the CM.
