Late-night raid in Pune: Bar busted for serving drugs to minors; 14 arrested, four cops suspended

In an all-night operation, the police raided and sealed a bar in Pune for allegedly "serving" narcotics to minors, said officialson Monday (June 24).
They also suspended four police officers of neglecting their duties. Early on Sunday, a social media video made rounds, in which two young boys were seen using drugs in a restaurant restroom with party music playing in the background.
The video prompted the Pune Police forces to raid the Liquid Leisure Lounge (L3) in the posh Fergusson College Road area. Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar launched an investigation, and a police squad raided L3 yesterday night and conducted an extensive search operation before sealing the premises early morning on Monday.
According to the information shared by the police, the establishment closed its front gate at 1:30. However, they allowed people to enter through the rear entrance, and partying lasted almost until dawn.

The police have also apprehended L3 owner Santosh Kamthe, franchise owner Ravi Maheshwari, manager Manas Malik, and two other employees.After six waiters from the restaurant were apprehended by the Maharashtra excise department on Monday night, the number of arrests in the Pune bar raid has reached 14, according to officials.
The Pune police have also taken action against two of its cops, including a police inspector and an assistant police inspector, for alleged dereliction of duty because the establishment under their jurisdiction openly broke rules and the cops turned a blind eye to what was going on.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emphasised the gravity of the situation and committed to making Pune and the rest of Maharashtra drug-free.
Murlidhar K. Mohol, the newly elected Pune MP and Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation stated that such instances were tarnishing Pune's reputation and promised severe action.
State President Jayanti Patil of the NCP(SP) and the other two members of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) called on Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to resign due to what they described as a complete breakdown of law and order in the state.
Congress MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, and Sushma Andhare, the Deputy Leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT), denounced the government for being unable to control the spate of crimes in Pune.
