In a major revelation in the Kolkata rape and murder case, main accused Sanjay Roy told West Bengal police that he stalked the victim at the chest medicine ward a day before he committed the gruesome crime. The CCTV footage from August 8 shows Roy staring at the 33-year-old victim and four other junior doctors at the chest ward.
As per reports, the doctor went to the seminal hall at 1:00 am (local time) on August 9 to sleep between her 36-hour-long shift. Roy was seen entering the premises at 4:00 am (local time).
The doctor was later found dead in the morning, raped and murdered.
News agency PTI reported that CBI was investigating the “broken bolt” on the seminar hall’s door. CBI is trying to find the answer to the question ofhow the offence was carried out without getting noticed by anybody.
CBI is also pursuing the angle that Roy may have sought a third person’s assistance to stand guard at the door.
“Interviews with doctors, interns, and junior doctors revealed that the door’s malfunction had been a known issue, which prevented the victim from locking the door that night,” one official was quoted as saying by the news agency.
“The tower bolt was broken, which caused the door to malfunction. We are probing whether anyone was stationed outside to act as a guard while the crime was committed,” the official said.
To further examine this angle, the central agency is conducting polygraph tests on four employees from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, including three junior doctors.
The authorities have also been granted permission to conduct a lie-detector test on Sandip Ghosh, the principal of RG Kar Medical College.
Earlier, the Supreme Court of India had chastised Ghosh and West Bengal police over a whopping 14-hour delay in registering an FIR in the case. The court also noted that Ghosh may have tried to show the murder as a case of suicide.
Following a Supreme Court order, the security responsibility of Kolkata’s RG Kar hospital was transferred to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
On Friday, CISF personnel were deployed to enhance security at the scene.
