One Indian Army soldier was killed while several otherswereinjured during an infiltrationbid in North Kashmir's Kupwara district. Additionally,one Pakistani intruder was also killed followingagunfight.
The Indian Army said that taking advantage of bad weather and poor visibility along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Machhal sector, two to three armed personnel crossed the LoC and fired on a forward army post from proximity.
The Indian Army's alert troops responded promptly,leading to anexchange of fire thatresultedinthe killing ofone Pakistani intruder.
The Indian forces also recoveredweapons, ammunition and war-like stores from the intruders. Meanwhile, the identification and affiliation of this Pakistani national is being ascertained.
"During this intense fire exchange, two of our brave soldiers also suffered some grave injuries and were hence immediately evacuated to the Base Hospital at Srinagar. Unfortunately, one of these brave hearts has succumbed to his injuries. The other brave soldier is responding well to treatment and care and is presently stable,"said an Indian Army official.

There has been exchange of fire with unidentified personnel on a forward post in Kamkari, Macchal Sector on the line of control. One Pakistani person has been killed while two of our soldiers have suffered injuries and have been evacuated.

The army officials also said that in the past infiltrators, actively aided and abetted by the Pakistani Army, have made similar attempts by exploiting thick foliage and poor visibility conditions. But these attacks have always, as today, been successfully thwarted and disrupted.
"Indian Army is firm in its resolve and commitment to maintain the sanctity of the Line of Control and defeat the nefarious and inimical designs of the Pakistan Army,"said the Indian Army official.

The operation is still underway as more deployment was sent to the site. This comes as security across Jammu and Kashmir, particularly areas near the borders, have been put on high alert after the recent spike in terror incidents in the Union Territory.
