India's Ministry of External Affairs has written to France, the United Kingdom and Belgium, asking them to help find the fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi.
ANI reported Wednesday that the letters were written last week.
Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi are the main accused in the over Rs 13,000 crore Punjab National Bank scam.
The uncle-and-nephew duo had allegedly managed to obtain fraudulent Letters of Credit from a PNB branch in Mumbai. The letters guaranteed — by PNB — loans Modi and Choksi then took from other banks.
News reports had recently said Modi was in London and was applying for asylum in the UK. Immediately afterwards, reports emerged saying he was in Brussels, Belgium.

There also appeared to be a certain amount of finger pointing between India's intelligence agencies (the CBI and the ED) with sources in the agencies saying Modi was being able to travel so easily between countries because the MEA had not written to the correct authorities.
