After getting postponed twice, India-US inaugural 2+2 dialogue will take place in New Delhi in September. In a statement, the US State dept said, "United States is pleased to announce that the inaugural US-India 2+2 Dialogue will be held in New Delhi, India, on September 6."

The meeting will take place between US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo and Secretary of Defense James Mattis and the Indian counterparts External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

According to the US State dept both sides will "discuss strengthening strategic, security, and defense cooperation as the United States and India jointly address challenges in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond."

The focus will also be the CAATSA or Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act, a bill that imposes sanctions on Russia and countries engaged with the country on defense. India gets roughly 70 per cent of its defence equipment from Russia.

Only a few weeks ago Defence Minister Sitharaman had confirmed that the meet will take place in September. The 2+2 meet was to take place on July 6 but was postponed since US Secy of state was to leave for Pyongyang.

The 2+2 Defence and foreign ministers dialogue is a new format of engagement between India and US. In Obama Admin the 2+2 was between Foreign and Commerce ministers.
