A former Shiv Sena corporator Ashok Sawant was stabbed by unidentified assailants on Sunday night.

Sawant was stabbed outside his residence while he was returning home after meeting a friend in Kandivali, Mumbai.
As per media reports, two assailants were waiting outside his house in a vehicle and as he was barely 200 meters away from his house, they reportedly approached him and stabbed him with choppers.
Sawant was later taken to the nearest hospital of the area where he was declared dead by the doctors.
A case under section 302 of Indian Penal code has been filed.
Police have started investigating the case by watching CCTV footage of the area.
Media reports said that he was receiving extortion calls for a few days and he had complained to the police.
It is suspected that the murder was a fallout of the extortion calls.
