Deve Gowda's grandson Prajwal Revanna sex scandal: Details of alleged sexual abuse revealed

Amid controversy over purported obscene videos, apolice casewas filedagainst Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna onSunday (April 28) over allegations of sexual assault.

Holenarasipur police stationfiled the First Information Report (FIR) in Hassan district on the complaint of a woman.

Janata Dal (Secular) MP and grandson of former Prime Minister HD DeveGowda Prajwal Revanna denied the allegationsand also fileda police complaint while claiming that obscene videos which have been circulating were morphed and are being shared on the social media to“tarnish his image and poison the minds of voters"during theLok Sabha elections2024.

Here'swhat the woman alleged in the complaint

While filing a complaint with the Holenarasipurapolice, the woman said that she decided to come out in the open and speak about the ordeal after she watched online videos of other victimsspeakingabout the atrocities.

Speaking about her case, the woman alleged that she faced abuse between 2019 and 2022.

In the FIR, the woman complainant said,"In a household with six female staff members, apprehension gripped us whenever Prajwal Revanna returned home. Even male colleagues cautioned us to exercise caution."

The woman further alleged that the women workers were often sexually assaulted by both father and son.

“Whenever (HD)Revanna’swifewasn’tthere, he used to call the women to the storeroom and touch them while giving them fruits. He used to remove saree pins and sexually assault women,"the woman narrated.

The victimfurtheraccused Prajwal of misbehaving with her daughter on a video call."My daughter blocked his number after repeated calls,"said the complainant.

Karnataka government announces SIT investigation into thecase

The Karnataka government, headed by Siddaramaiah, stated that they are forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in response to the State Commission forWomen'sletterwhichspoke about“influential politicians”seeking sexual favours from women and also allegedly raping a few of them.

In the video clip, which circulated online, former PM DeveGowda’sgrandson Prajwal can be seen forcefully engaging in sexual acts with various women, some of whom were reportedly government employees.

In a post on X, Siddaramaiah announced the decision to establish an SIT for investigating the alleged‘sex scandal’.

“The government has decided to form a special investigation team in connection with the Prajwal Revanna obscene video case. Obscene video clips are circulating in Hassan district, where it appears that women havebeen sexually assaulted. Against this backdrop, the Chairperson of theWomen’sCommission had written a letter to the government to conduct an SIT investigation. This decision hasbeen takenin response to their request,"Siddaramaiahsaid.

A"CID [Crime Investigation Department] wing SIT in the'obscene video'case willbe ledby IPS [Indian Police Service] officer Vijay Kumar Singh."he added.

Who is Prajwal Revanna?

Prajwal Revanna is the grandson of former prime minister and JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda. Prajwal defeatedBJP'sA Manjuby 140 thousand votes in Hassan in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.

He is seeking re-election from the seat as the BJP-JD(S)alliance'sjoint candidateand isfacing competition from 31-year-oldCongress candidate Shreyas M Patel,who isthe grandson of Puttaswamy Gowda.

As per his election affidavit, Revanna declared assets worth Rs 40.85 crorewhichdisplayed a substantial increase in his assets from 2019.

His fatherHD Revanna,who isthe elder son of Deve Gowda, is a former minister and an MLA from Holenarsipura. As the controversy erupted, Prajwal Revanna flew to Germany on Sunday morning (April 28).
