
Three women in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh were arrested for a series of murders using cyanide, according to media reports on Saturday (Sept 7). The accused were identified as Munagappa Rajini (aged 40), Madiyala Venkatweshwari (aged 32), and Gulra Ramanamma (aged 60).
They were arrested by the police on Thursday, a report by India Today said. The women killed four people by mixing cyanide in their drinks after befriending them first and then robbing them following their deaths, the report on Saturday said.
Citing the police, the India Today report said that Rajini, Venkateshwari, and Ramanamma targeted victimswho had gold jewellery or cash. The accused women would befriend such people, and offer them drinks mixed with cyanide.
The victims would die (shortly after consuming the drinks) and the women would steal their valuables and flee.
The report pointed out that apart from the four people they killed, the women also attempted to kill two others but the victims survived.
Venkateshwari is the prime accused in this case. The report added that she workedas a volunteer for four years before travelling to Cambodia, where she was involved in cyber crimes.
The police said that the three women confessed to the crime and were apprehended under relevant sections of theBharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
The police also arrested a man who allegedly supplied the accused with the poison.
