Earlier reports said the deaths of infants at the Farrukhabad hospital were due to "perinatal asphyxia", a condition in which the child cannot breathe properly.
Meanwhile, senior doctors in the hospital have gone on "mass leave"upset over charges brought against them, reports said.
The deaths have now created political ripples with the Shiv Sena attacking the Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh in its party mouthpiece 'Saamna'.

"The government-run hospitals are one and only shelter for the poor in the midst of an alarming health crisis. If these hospitals show such negligence, how the needy will survive?" the article said.
The hospital recorded 49 deaths, 30 in neo-natal ICU and 19 during delivery, between July 20 and August 21, an official spokesperson had said on Monday.
The Uttar Pradesh government led by chief minister Adityanath on Monday had fired Farrukhabad District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar as well as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Umakant Pandey and Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) Akhilesh Agarwal.
An FIRwas also lodged against the CMO and the CMS in Farrukhabad, about 180 km from the state capital.
The horrific conditions at the Farrukhabad's district hospital are almost a rerun of the Gorakhpur's Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College where thirty-sixchildren reportedly died on August 27 and 28barely a fortnight after over 70infants died in a week in the same hospital.
