Ajit Doval given Cabinet rank in second term as India's NSA
Ajit Doval
National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval has been given Cabinet rank in the new government in recognition of his contribution in the national security domain.
Doval has been given a second term after being appointed as NSA for a period of five years by the Modi government.
Doval was earlier the director of Intelligence Bureau (IB) in 2004.
Doval who had handled key issues pertaining to Pakistan and China during the first Modi government is the designated "special representative" for border talks with China.
Last year, Doval had held border talks with China's foreign minister Wang Yi in China's southwestern Sichuan province in a bid to enhance bilateral relations with China after the Doklam standoff which had severely affected relations between the two countries.
India's NSA had also held talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Defence Secretary James Mattis and his American counterpart John Bolton earlier.
