Zaira Wasim's decision to quit Bollywood receives mixed reactions

On Sunday, the 'Dangal' actress, Zaira Wasim posted a heartfelt note on her Instagram account announcing her decision to disassociate from the industry.In her post, she said that she was not happy with her line of work as it interfered with her faith and religion.

A few hours later, numerous people reacted to her decision to leave the fraternity.

Roy Kapur films, which is backing Shonali Bose's 'The Sky Is Pink', Zaira's last film, issued a statement saying that Wasim has been "completely professional" throughout the film.

"This is a purely personal decision, which she has taken after much thought and we will be supportive of her in every way - now and always," the statement read.

Appreciating Zaira's decision, Maulana Yasoob Abbas said: "Other actors should also take a cue from her and listen to their inner voice. Women are not an object of exhibition."

Actress Nagma too applauded her decision.

However, not everyone was happy with her reasons and felt that she was degrading the industry in her post.

Expressing her views, Politician Shazia Ilmi said, "If Zaira Wasim is quitting acting because of threat or fatwa, then this is unfortunate; but if she is doing this out of her own will, then we should respect her decision."

Social acticist and filmmaker Ashoke Pandit statedthat he feels any form of art brings a person closer to God. "As a performer, I believe that very few are endowed with the gift of art. Everybody can't be an actor. I don't have any problem if you want to retire. However, don't connect it with religion."

Without naming Zaira directly in her tweet, Raveena Tandon said, "Doesn’t matter if two film olds are ungrateful to the industry that has given them all. Just wish they’d exit gracefully and keep their regressive views to themselves."

She also added that she understood that quitting Bollywood was Zaira's decision but felt that she should not "demean" the Indian film industry in the process.

Zaira Wasim, who started out her career in Bollywood with the 2016 hit 'Dangal' will be last seen in 'The Sky is Pink' along with Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar that is set to release in October this year.
