Mohanlal-Mammootty starrer Patriot has a new release date. The film was earlier scheduled to release on April 23, but will now release in May. On Thursday, the two veteran actors announced the date on which the trailer will be unveiled.
One of the most anticipated films of the year, Patriot, has a new release date. The espionage thriller, which stars two of the most revered Malayalam stars, Mohanlal and Mammootty, was initially set to release on April 23. On Wednesday, it was revealed that the film has been postponed.
When will Patriot release?
Patriot will now be released in theatres worldwide a week later, on May 1. Mohanlal and Mammootty took to their X accounts to share the new date.
Earlier on Tuesday, the makers took to social media to explain the delay in the release. They said they are working to bring the film to audiences with the "highest possible quality."
The statement read, "We are working hard to bring Patriot to you at the highest possible quality. However, due to a combination of unforeseen circumstances, it has become necessary to postpone the film's release from the previously scheduled date of April 23 by a few days."
The film's first trailer will be out on April 4, the makers announced on Thursday. Both Mammotty and Mohanlal shared the update on their respective X pages revealin that they would be present in two different locations in Kerala to launch the highly anticipated trailer.
About Patriot
The teaser for Patriot was released last October. Mounted as one of the major releases in Malayalam cinema in 2026, the film is an espionage thriller starring legends Mohanlal and Mammootty. The story revolves around a retired JAG officer, portrayed by Mammootty, who is wrongfully framed for espionage. Determined to clear his name and protect the nation, he embarks on a covert mission. Joining him in this high-stakes operation is Mohanlal, playing a battle-hardened armed forces operative.
Tension rises as Fahadh Faasil’s character appears deeply concerned about the two joining forces, hinting at a complex narrative filled with power struggles and intrigue.
The film has an impressive star cast, including Kunchako Boban, Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara, and Revathy in key roles. It also stars Grace Antony, Zarin Shihab, Sreeparvathy, Geethi Sangeetha, Jinu Joseph, Danish Husain, Shaheen Siddique, Sanal Aman, and Prakash Belawadi.
Mohanlal and Mammootty, often pitted against each other by their respective fan clubs, are known to be friends off-screen. In 2025, when Mohanlal won the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award during the 71st National Film Awards ceremony, Mammootty honoured him on the set of Patriot.
