Kim Kardashian trolled for wearing Princess Diana's cross necklace at LACMA gala: 'Class vs trash'

Kim Kardashian knows how to create a stir with her fashion choices. At the recently held 2024 LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles, Kim wore an antique amethyst necklace, previously worn by the late Princess Diana at a 1987 charity event. Kim teamed the enormous cross necklace with a white gown and plunging neckline, highlighting her cleavage. Kim also added an ivory coat to her outfit, styled off-the-shoulder for the event. The reality TV star completed her look with a sleek bob parted to the left, winged eyeliner, brown eyeshadow and a nude lip.

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians alum reportedly acquired the Attallah Cross at a Sotheby’s auction in 2023 for just under $200,000 and wore it publicly for the first time at this event.

Kim's choice of attire did not go down well with many on social media. Several were quick to term her look as 'sleazy' and 'tone deaf' for the choice of her outfit.

"She turned it into something vulgar," a user posted on X. "She had the audacity to put it on with this dress. Purely tone deaf, uneducated narcissistic unattractive brain," another user commented.

About the pendant

Named after its former owner, Naim Attallah, a Palestinian-British businessman, the pendant was often loaned to Princess Diana in the 1980s.

Diana, Princess of Wales, was famously photographed wearing the pendant on a pearl strand at the 1987 Birthright charity gala, paired with a purple velvet high-neck Catherine Walker gown.

Originally crafted by Garrard in the 1920s, the Attallah Cross features square-cut amethysts surrounded by 5.25 carats of circular-cut diamonds.

Diana’s similar pearl choker, containing 900 pearls, was worn at various events, including film and theater premieres.

"She wants to be connected to the Royal Family so bad," commented one person on Kim's photos on social media on Saturday. "Could Kim look more sleazy? She’s fake from head to toe," another wrote. One user commented, "Perfect example of class vs. trash."

"Wearing a cross while exposing your breasts is an odd choice, Kim," someone else remarked.

"Kim is so desperate to be remembered like that of other famous women ~ Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Princess Diana, etc., and she thinks she can buy her way to the top," another person said.

The 2024 LACMA Art + Film Gala saw several Hollywood celebrities in attendance, including Blake Lively, Andrew Garfield, Laura Dern, and Dev Patel. Indian socialite and philanthropist Natasha Poonawalla was also present at the gala event.
