Zendaya never ceases to amaze with her super chic looks off screen and powerful performances on screen but now she’s opening up about what tennis legend Serena Williams thought of her latest performance in Challengers, a film that is sure to get the actress some acting nods in the coming awards.
In Challengers, Zendaya plays a tennis player-turned-coach Tashi Duncan. The film is directed by Luca Guadagnino. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, she revealed what the tennis legend told her.
She said, “She was like, ‘I know there definitely weren’t real [tennis] balls’. She knows. She’s the best of the best.”
But that’s not all, Zendaya revealed that Serena added some praise for her and said, “She did say that it was great considering that I had never, never touched a tennis ball before.”
Zendaya’s film Challengers is billed as a sports comedy. It stars Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor as it follows “three players who knew each other when they were teenagers as they compete in a tennis tournament to be the world-famous grand slam winner and reignite old rivalries on and off the court,” according to the film’s synopsis.
While Zendaya proves she can act in the film, she was initially quite nervous about Serena watching her “tennis skills” and so she “apologised in advance” to her and her sister Venus Williams.
